    • - Right, I'm off. Any more chit-chat about how Messi is blatantly better than Maradona (I can feel the heat now...) feel free to Tweet @Reda_Eurosport. As they say in Barcelona, hasta la proxima / fins a la proxima. FOLLOW ON TWITTER!
    • 90+2 That, my friends, is that. 7-1 on the night, 10-2 on aggregate, Barca are in the quarters. Good luck to whoever faces them!!
    • 90+1 Guardiola shakes Dutt's hand to congratulate him on that goal. Even he was surprised by that.
    • 90' LOVELY GOAL BY BENARABI! Sreamer of a finish from the left, with his right boot, after a fine one-two with Rolfes. That was the pick of the bunch! 7-1.
    • 90' TELLO FOR THE HAT-TRICK BUT WELL SAVED LENO! His lovely checked run sent him clean through on to Cesc's ball, but the keeper flew out to block with a star-shaped save.
    • 89' Mascherano hoofs behind for a corner, vital interception as Kiessling was clean through.
    • 88' Messi with a stray pass again! Get him off!
    • 87' Leverkusen have not totally given up - their front line has at least tried to penetrate Barca - but the low ball from Kiessling is cleared.
    • 86' MESSI MISPLACES A PASS! Stop press!!
    • 85' Messi hits five! Cripes! First time ever in the Champions League for someone to score five! Fizzing finish inside the left post after a delightful flick by Keita played him in. Five!!
    • 84' Pep is still bellowing instructions from the touchline. Save it for the weekend man.
    • 83' Tello almost latches on to a through ball but it just slips under his foot. "Uuuuuy" go the fans.
    • 81' Barca with 70% possession apparently. Surprised it's not in the 90s.
    • 80' With Xavi off Fabregas takes it, sending a nice corner near post for Keita who heads well wide under pressure from Rolfes.
    • 79' Corner Barca after some more nutmegs and backheels almost pay off.
    • 78' Finally Barca lose the ball - but they almost scored in doing so, Messi released Pedro with a backheel, the Spaniard's low cross beating defence and keeper but also evading the sliding Keita.
    • 76' More pass and glide from Barca, Leverkusen just want this to stop.
    • 75' The German side haven't touched the ball in about five minutes, passing and passing from barca.
    • 73' Barca almost get in again but Tello's pass is too heavy. This could be a long 17 minutes for Leverkusen.
    • 71' Cesar Rodriguez managed 235 goals in all competitions for Barca; Messi is on 227. He'll finish that by the end of the season one expects. And at the age of 24. Wah.
    • 70' Tello finds Keita, who slips in down the left and cuts a ball across for Messi but - after his two-goal nightmare - Leno has regained his composure and intercepts.
    • 69' Kiessling races in down the right and he plays in a low cross but Barca deal with it and pass it clear.
    • 68' BAYER SUB: Oczipka on for Augusto.
    • 67' Good thing for Schwaab that Pedro was offside - he may well have walked otherwise as Pedro was in.
    • 66' Messi releases Pedro, who is fouled, but the flag was up.
    • 65' Alves almost lofts one in for Pedro but Leno this time claims first.
    • 63' BARCA SUB: Muniesa, the Spain youth defender, comes on for a run out.
    • 62' SIX FOR BARCA! Tello gets his second, rattling a low finish through Leno, who is now a broken man. That came from Alves's surging run and pass out wide.
    • 61' Tello is good at football - official. He slips Cesc in down the left with a noncholant flick while looking the other way. La Masia is to football what Stock Aitken and Waterman was to Aussie-tinged pop music.
    • 60' Lionel Messi has now scored 52 goals this season for club and country. Bo-ring. He started the night 12 short of the Barca record; he now needs eight.
    • 59' Only delaying the fifth as Messi gets his fourth from a tight angle after Leno spilled his low save. Four!
    • 58' Castro with a desperate saving tackle as Tello got through on the left.
    • 57' Great little pass from Cesc to release the sub, who dinked a neat little finish past the advancing Leno. Little, dink, neat... All very smurf-like.
    • 56' GOAL BARCA! 4-0, 7-1 on aggregate as Tello scores within his first minute of European football. Hi.
    • 55' LEVERKUSEN SUB: Belarabi and Schuerrle on for Bender and Derdiyok as Mr Dutt spares some legs for the Bundesliga.
    • 54' Almost a goal for Leverkusen as Derdiyok flicks a lovely finish/cross after skinning Alves and Mascherano: it beats Valdes but drops just shy of the far post and with no team-mate following up.
    • 53' And another! Keita replaces Xavi to great cheers for both men. Keita scored the crucial goal against Sporting with Barca down to 10 men at the weekend. He's good, he is.
    • 52' BARCA SUB: Youngster Tello comes on for Iniesta.
    • 51' ... But could he hack it on a wet Wednesday in Stoke? Obviously Messi would be incredible in the Premier League, but I doubt he'd score quite as many without a couple of months of hardcore pie-eating.
    • 50' That is Messi's eighth hat-trick of the season.
    • 49' MESSI WITH A HAT-TRICK! And it's the same goal that he started with, scooping a silly finish from 15 yards as Leno approached. Nice pass Cesc, diagonal run again and Schwaab lumbering. Right foot too.
    • 48' The corner lands at the feet of Alves outside the box but he slips as he shoots and it's blocked. Messi on the left crosses for Pique, who is still hanging around, but Leno claims first.
    • 47' Iniesta on the left, he cuts inside, now Messi, now Fabregas, this is absurd and he must score but he tries a final pass to give Iniesta the tap-in but blocked and hacked behind!
    • 46' The second half is underway.
    • 45+1 Half-time and you may as well go for a run or something. Barca are in second gear and leading 2-0 on the night thanks to a sublime brace from ringer-in-chief Lionel Messi.
    • 45+1 Pique pops up on the right wing, winning a throw off Kadlec with his cross. Now Iniesta cuts in from the right, a one-two with Messi and Alves could be in but cleared by Kadlec. Still with Barca though, who are now running rings around Leverkusen.
    • 45' Castro is finally booked for leaving the nightmarishly good Iniesta on the feet after a Catalan shuffle from the midfield maestro.
    • 44' Leno makes a super double save after Fabregas and Pedro try to finish! Messi's delighftul through-ball initiated that.
    • 43' STAT: Lionel Messi has scored 50 goals for club and country so far this season.
    • 42' MESSI! GOAL! Classic Leo, dribbling inside from the right to shift it on to his left foot, with which he unleashes a savage low drive into the bottom left. Started by a surging run from Iniesta. 2-0, 5-1.
    • 41' Messi and Cesc almost combine but the final pass finds keeper Leno. Down the other end a decent cross from Bender changes direction at the last to land behind Kiessling.
    • 40' When you have a high line you need a keeper who can play a bit - and Valdes is just that, striding towards halfway to control the ball and slide the pass out.
    • 39' Barca need to settle back into their groove but Messi loses control of the ball.
    • 38' A Castro throw finds Mascherano in a pickle but Kiessling's cross sails out for a goal kick.
    • 37' Derdiyok almost gets in behind the high Barca line again but the through ball just too heavy.
    • 36' Easy claim for Valdes after Rolfes's cross sails over Derdiyok's head.
    • 35' Good play by Leverkusen as they pass their way to the edge of the box, where Renato has a shot that is blocked. Barca counter but Xavi blasts miles over.
    • 34' Pedro races through from Xavi's ball but he is offside this time. Tigh.
    • 33' Derdiyok flicks it on, Pique heads clear but a flying Kiessling volleys, the shot blocked by Pique who readjusted well.
    • 32' Now Messi pops up again on the right, cutting inside past one challenge but his low left-foot shot blocked by a flying Toprak. That was goal-bound.
    • 31' Pique misses a header to let Kiessling in, but the Germany forward has too much to do and his cross doesn't get past Mascherano.
    • 30' Pique manhandles Pique around 30 yards out, to the Leverkusen left. Castro to curl it in with his right... headed away by Cesc of all people.
    • 29' Fabregas is in down the right this time but his cross, searching for Messi, is too close to Leno.
    • 28' Mascherano lofts a ball into the channel but it's too high for Alves.
    • 27' That was Messi's eighth goal in the Champions League this season. 11 more and he'll be Barca's all-time top scorer. And he's still only 12!
    • 26' Great clearance from Pique, swivelling to slide it away as Augusto was set to pounce. Barcelona counter and Messi has sprung the offside trap, he's clean through and with the keeper rushing out the cheeky little so-and-so scoops a chipped left-foot finish over him and in! The impudence! Played onside by Kadlec as he checked his run diagonally across halfway. 1-0 Barca, 4-1 aggregate.
    • 25' Meanwhile Iniesta tries a cute through ball but Castro intercepts. Back with Messi, now Iniesta on the left facing Castro. Slowly slowly from Barca...
    • 25' Well the marking was poor from Leverkusen there, the ball wasn't even high on to the 6'3" Pique's head; he had to stoop into the flick, making Leno's save all the better.
    • 24' Xavi will swing this in AND IT'S A BEAUTY AS PIQUE MEETS IT WITH THE HEADER BUT A SUPER PARRY BY LENO!
    • 23' Iniesta is sent to the dirt by Castro, the Spaniard asking for a card as it was a rather cynical trip by the Leverkusen man.
    • 22' Rolfes tries to dribble in down the left but that's not what he's paid for and Barca clear. Now Adriano has a chance edge of box but he shoots against Toprak.
    • 21' Mascherano argues the toss with the ref after he is adjudged to have fouled Derdiyok. A good six or seven inches between that pair, the striker dwarfing the defender.
    • 20' Augusto appears to be tripped on the edge of the box but Rolfes has a chance to shoot so the ref plays on: his effort hits Busquets though and Barca survive that mini-scare.
    • 19' Barca counter but the backheel from Iniesta does not come off and the ball is sailed into the arms of Leno.
    • 18' Barca coolly play it around at the back, Valdes and Mascherano cold as ice under pressure.
    • 17' Messi on the ball, space and options and he looks wide left to Cesc. His cross is too high, too deep though and it lands behind Alves.
    • 16' Derdiyok chests the ball down, now Kiessling on it but he handles and Barca have a free-kick.
    • 15' Vital intervention from Schwaab as Alves sent a cross to Messi! Rolfes completes the clearance.
    • 14' Messi almost releases Alves but the pass is intercepted by Toprak.
    • 13' Swarming break from Barca but Alves's low cross from the right is behind the arriving Pedro and Messi and Leverkusen clear.
    • 12' Free-kick to Barca then, around 25 yards out, a touch to the left... Xavi to take but he spins it high and wide.
    • 11' Rolfes hauls back Iniesta on the edge of the D and surely he will be booked. Yes. Nice one-two with Cesc to bring that about.
    • 10' Looking at the replay that was some block from Gonzalo Castro! The half-Spanish defender somehow got across to keep out Cesc's firm finish.
    • 9' Somehow Barca fail to score as Messi races through on the right, super save from Leno, the loose ball dropping to Fabregas but his finish blocked on the line by Castro!
    • 8' Pedro is the latest Barca player caught offside as they seek an opening.
    • 7' Cesc is caught offside on the delivery though, straying at the far post.
    • 6' Barca keep the ball for two whole minutes until they win a free-kick 30 yards out to the left.
    • 4' Foul on Messi on the Barca left. They look to keep it short, as is their fashion.
    • 3' Initially good defending from Alves but then he dribbles across the face of his own goal before eventually clearing under pressure. Risky.
    • 2' A high ball is dealt with by a combination of Pique and Valdes. In the Leverkusen goal is Bernd Leno, no relation of Jay and a whippersnapper at 20. No Rene Adler, who has slipped out of favour since announcing he will leave the club.
    • 1' Pedro almost gets on to Xavi's through-ball but the defender Toprak closes him down quickly.
    • 1' The first half is underway. Leverkusen all in white.
    • 19:40 The teams are out now, Barca overwhelming favourites to win and to win comfortably.

    • 19:25 You will note that the under-fire Gerard Pique starts for Barca tonight. His form has dipped alarmingly this season, some say because he is distracted by his newfound celebrity, and the shapely form of his missus, Shakira. What do you think? Our Barca-based mole Andy Mitten has his own view on things. GERARD - DISTRACTED OR PAST HIS PIQUE?
    • 19:20 MATCH ODDS: Barcelona (1/6), Bayer Leverkusen (20/1), Draw (15/2)
    • 19:15 FACT: Barcelona are unbeaten in their last 13 Champions League games, winning 11 of them. Barcelona have recorded the highest ball possession percentage (74%) and the highest passing accuracy (91%) in this season's competition. They have dominated possession in all of their 45 Champions League matches under Pep Guardiola’s management.
    • 19:15 FACT: These sides have met on seven occasions in European competition, with Barcelona winning the last four encounters.
    • 19:10 Robin Dutt (Leverkusen): "If we continue playing like we have done in the past few weeks then the results will come. Of course it's going to be tough to win 3-0 in Barcelona but I don't think it makes any sense to think about that. First of all we have to play a good game, there will be 4,000 fans coming with us to Barcelona and whether we get through or not we owe it to them to play well."
    • 19:10 Pep Guardiola (Barca): "Some may take Leverkusen for granted and underestimate them. But we still have a lot of work to do to get ready for a team with a lot of height that with a corner kick can break open the knockout series."
    • 19:05 For Leverkusen, Switzerland forward Eren Derdiyok starts after returning from injury as a sub against Bayern Munich. Vedran Corluka is replaced by Omer Toprak at the back.
    • 19:05 No great shakes there then - Barca are without Alexis Sanchez and Eric Abidal, but we knew that anyway; Pedro starts in place of the former, Adriano the latter. Nice work if you can get it.
    • 19:00 TEAMS - Barcelona: Valdes, Alves, Pique, Mascherano, Adriano, Xavi, Busquets, Iniesta, Cesc, Pedro, Messi /// Leverkusen: Leno, Schwaab, Reinartz, Toprak, Kadlec, Castro, Bender, Rolfes, Renato Augusto, Kiessling, Derdiyok
