    • 90+5 And that is the final whistle! Burnley are in the Premier League! A massive story and they are delirious while United's players are shell-shocked! It was not a classic by any means but Burnley don't care, they'll be mixing it with the big boys for the first time in 33 years!
    • 90+4 A yellow card for Lupoli.
    • 90+3 Late tackle from Hendrie but a theatrical fall by Elliott, who gets an earful for his histrionics.
    • 90+2 Halford smashes the free-kick on goal but it's blocked and Burnley break, three on two, Elliott sprints forward and looks wide to Rodriguez but Montgomery is back with the block for a corner.
    • 90+1 Walker gets to his feet as FIVE minutes added time are signalled.
    • 90' Kalvenes gets to his feet and is booked for the challenge, with Walker still strugging.
    • 89' Clash of heads between Kalvenes and Walker leaves both on the floor motionless, the free-kick has been given to United but it was an accidental collision.
    • 88' Eagles on the ball, he wriggles past one man, then another, he could be in here but he delays the shot and Paterson is free, totally free but he tries to beat Morgan instead and the Blades captain tackles! Great play until the finish, he needed to make a decision.
    • 87' Halford is furious, claiming Caldwell was pulling his shirt in the area, but rightly Dean explains that it was six to one and half a dozen for the other.
    • 85' UNITED SUB: Last throw of the dice for Blackwell who brings on Hendrie for Quinn.
    • 84' Eagles gets it on the left and some good skill allows him to win a corner.
    • 83' Rodriguez down the right, Eagles is in support but the young striker goes for goal himself, straight at Kenny.
    • 82' SHEFFIELD UNITED SUB: Howard is tiring and Lupoli, a more attacking player, is brought on as Blades chase an equaliser.
    • 80' Played down the left to Beattie who races past Carlisle but can't keep the ball in, goal kick.
    • 79' Kilgallon with a long ball and Ward handles as he controls and oh no the foolish boy is going to get a second yellow for deliberate handball and he's off! He's only been on the pitch for 20 minutes and two silly yellow cards in four minutes has ruined his and possibly United's season!
    • 77' ... this break could be devastating for Blades as Paterson gets beyond the defence and he could be in here, cutting past Morgan but Naughton with another brilliant sliding block to save the day. He has been excellent.
    • 76' Walker wins a free-kick on the right but it's cleared and Burnley break....
    • 75' Ward with an arm in the air into Carlisle and he is the first player to be booked.
    • 73' Eagles with a rough challenge on Walker and ironic cheers as the free-kick is awarded.
    • 72' Duff gets caught out of position and Ward is in down the left but Jensen flies out to parry his attempted finish from what was a tight angle.
    • 71' Great play by Naughton on the left wing, cutting inside and pinging in a cross but cleared by Burnley. United keep coming though and Kilgallon goes down but no penalty, still with Blades though as Montgomery bursts into the box and he goes down but nothing. Neither of those were spot kicks.
    • 70' BURNLEY SUB: Eagles on for Blake. Not a bad sub at this level.
    • 69' United break, down the right, he skips past Blake and takes on Kalvenes, who brings him down in the box but no penalty! Mike Dean waves away United's appeals again and really that was an obstruction at the very least!
    • 67' Gudjonsson will take this one, he pings it to the edge of the D where Elliott takes it on the chest and attempts a spectacular volley but blocked and hoofed all the way upfield to Jensen.
    • 66' Decent delivery from the corner but cleared by Blades and, after the second ball almost finds Blake, out for another corner.
    • 65' Elliott is played through on the right and surely he is offside, Blades have stopped but no, play on! He's clean through and Blake is unmarked so he slides it across to him but WHAT A TACKLE! Naughton flew across, from nowhere, to slide in and save Blades. Corner.
    • 61' Good ball down the left by Quinn but Howard can't keep it in, pace not being his biggest attribute.
    • 60' A long ball causes mild panic in the Burnley box with Ward sprinting on to it and hacked away by Caldwell. Ward will inject some pace to the Blades front-line, Beattie is ploughing a lone furrow and needs more support.
    • 59' SHEFFIELD UNITED SUB: Young striker Jamie Ward is on for David Cotterill.
    • 58' The third Blake set piece is headed away from Thompson by Halford but Burnley pump it forward and Blake, whose ageing legs did not carry him back to defend, is still up and plays it off Morgan for a corner.
    • 57' Blake swings in the free-kick but headed behind for a corner by Kilgallon. This half is much more like it. Another good ball from Blake but Morgan again heads behind for a corner.
    • 56' Montgomery is lucky not to be booked after sliding in on Blake. Free-kick Burnley on the left.
    • 55' The corner that follows causes all kinds of problems but eventually Blades hack it clear.
    • 54' Elliott wide to Paterson, he swings a deep cross over and THOMPSON AT THE FAR POST WITH A DOWNWARD HEADER ACROSS GOAL PAST KENNY AND GUDJONSSON TO MAKE IT TWO BUT SOMEHOW OFF THE LINE BY MONTGOMERY! What a block and Gudjonsson cannot believe it!
    • 53' Cotterill on the right swings over a decent high ball that Carlisle heads backwards and out for a corner. Howard goes over to take it and Halford rises but the header loops up and into the arms of Jensen.
    • 52' Kilgallon plays it long but Duff is there to head clear.
    • 51' Great run by Quinn through the middle, he has options left and right and as he weighs them up Alexander slides in with an inch-perfect tackle.
    • 49' Corner again on the right, Blake takes it again and swings it straight over to the six-yard box where Thompson rises with the header which is going wide but Duff slides in and just can't divert it past Kenny! Goal kick. That was a good chance.
    • 48' Corner to Burnley on the right, taken short by Blake to Elliott who backheels it back to him and he crosses for Paterson but put behind for a corner again!
    • 47' Blades swarm forward now as Cotterill almost gets in on the right but is denied by Kalvenes who clears.
    • 46' Second half underway and immediately Burnley are on the attack but Morgan gets the header in ahead of Thompson!
    • - Blades manager Kevin Blackwell looks perplexed
    • - Elliott scores and Burnley celebrate
    • - Elliott shoots...
    • - Steven Quinn on Wade Elliott before he shoots
    • 45+3 Half-time, Burnley lead through that excellent Wade Elliot strike 12 minutes in! Sheffield United need to find a way back into this match.
    • 45+2 Beattie is annoyed after he's penalised for a soft challenge on Paterson a split-second after the ball struck the Burnley striker on his hand. It was never a penalty and possibly a foul, so a fair decision from Dean.
    • 45+1 Three minutes added time being played.
    • 45' Gudjonsson leads a Burnley break, wide to Paterson who stands it up and Elliot on the overlap plays in a superb ball for THOMPSON WITH THE HEADER AND KENNY STANDS STILL AS IT BOUNCES JUST WIDE! I think he thought that was going a lot further off target than it was!
    • 44' Long ball aimed for Beattie, he wins a throw on the Blades left wing which Naughton will take, he gets it back, inside to Cotterill who takes a heavy touch but still gets it to Montgomery but his low shot is well wide.
    • 43' Kalvenes launches it from the left and Duff has got forward but he can only loop a header well wide.
    • 42' High one into the Burnley half, Duff takes it and, as he hoofs it clear in mid-air, Howard takes him out, free-kick.
    • 41' Good delivery by Blake and Thompson is in there but Kilgallon challenges, Montgomery clears and Paterson clatters into him. Free-kick.
    • 40' Free-kick to Burnley on the right wing which Blake will swing in...
    • 39' Good defending by Caldwell, calmly heading the ball back to Jensen. United dominated the start of this match but Burnley got the breakaway goal and are now just content to soak up any pressure, pass it around and hit Blades on the break.
    • 38' United come down the left but a decent cross from Cotterill is easy enough for Jensen.
    • 37' Blake gets in down the left and after beating Walker and then Cotterill Walker slides in and hoofs it behind but, inexplicably, a goal kick is awarded.
    • 36' Surely a shirt pull on Naughton after he went past Duff but the ref does not see it and waves Naughton to get up. Mike Dean seems to be missing a lot of things Sheffield United want.
    • 35' Thompson is played clean through by Elliot and can make it two but the flag is up. He looked onside to me, the replay implies he was level at worst.
    • 34' After some on-pitch treatment, Naughton is walked off the pitch so he can make his return.
    • 32' Naughton is down in some pain after a late tackle from Carlisle, which was missed by Mike Dean.
    • 31' Great skill from Gudjonsson in the middle of the park to turn and spread the ball wide but the cross from Thompson is poor.
    • 30' Burnley on the counter again, Gudjonsson now with a ball to Paterson on the right who tries a curler but wide with Kenny flying across!
    • 27' BURNLEY SUB: Chris McCann, who came back on soon after that injury, is down again. Godjonsson comes on in his place.
    • 26' Corner to United on the right as McCann limps off... swung into the middle, good delivery and Kilgannon is running in but Carlisle gets there before him.
    • 25' McCann is still down receiving treatment but the magic spray seems to have saved him... Joey Gudjonsson is warming up in case... He limps off so is not totally out of it...
    • 23' Kilgallon swings a free-kick from deep into the box but headed clear with Morgan in there... McCann goes down with nobody near him and he's in trouble, his right knee seems to have gone...
    • 22' Free-kick to Burnley on the left which Elliot will take, but his far-post cross takes a touch off Duff to go out for a goal kick.
    • 21' Blake runs away with the ball but he's called back as there was an infringement and United have a free-kick around 30 yards out... Halford shot poorly last time so Howard will swing it in. He tries to go far post but lets himself down by sending it too long and out for a goal kick.
    • 20' Another throw in to United on the right. A look at the replay of the penalty claim five minutes ago shows that Howard had a very, very good case to answer. Indeed there is no case - he was tripped by Alexander.
    • 19' A half-decent passing move by the Clarets results in a Duff cross that swings out but not before getting a touch off Walker. They win a throw from the corner that follows, but it's headed over.
    • 18' Both teams play a bit of head tennis, with any balls landing to feet immediately launched. Both sides are better than this.
    • 16' Jensen claims the corner despite Kilgallon clattering into his chest with his feet. A late tackle from behind, scissors if you will, but Morgan is not booked, just spoken to.
    • 15' Howard is furious after going down in the box under a challenge from Alexander and only a corner is given.
    • 13' Well well well. Burnley seem to have this knack of being dominated before players one would normally call journeymen pull out ridiculous strikes. Blades need to stay calm and bounce back fast.
    • 12' Elliott gets on it at halfway, he looks for a pass but there's no runner so he turns and runs at the United defence, beats one man, then another and plays it to McCann on the edge of the box, he tries a crack but is blocked by Kilgallon AND IT DROPS TO ELLIOTT WITH AN OUTRAGEOUS STRIKE FROM 30 YARDS THAT SAILS INTO THE TOP LEFT FOR 1-0! What a goal! Another stunner from Burnley who, as against Reading, did nothing before pulling out a wonder goal!
    • 11' Throw to United on the right, hurled into the box by Walker and Morgan gets in at the near post with a flick and off Caldwell for the corner but a goal-kick is mistakenly awarded.
    • 10' After some deliberation Halford takes it and he shoots, which is a bit silly given the range, and it's blocked buy the ball breaks to Howard who tries a shot but a weak effort easy for Jensen.
    • 9' Free-kick to United around 35 yards out, Quinn and Halford stand over it...
    • 8' A debut attack from Burnley but the ball trickles harmlessly through to Kenny.
    • 7' Good play by Beattie to control and spread wide right with Cotterill operating on the flank but his cross is blocked and headed clear.
    • 6' Carlisle gets to the ball ahead of Halford, who clumsily and obviously hauls the former QPR, Blackpool, Leeds and Watford man to the ground.
    • 5 Blades go long for Craig Beattie on a couple of occasions but the runs from midfield support are not yet forthcoming.
    • 4' Caldwell plays the ball back to his own keeper. Messy start, as one would expect, hopefully someone will put his foot on the ball and start playing.
    • 3' First shot on goal comes from Nick Montgomery, who lashes a volley from the edge of the D after a poor defensive header from Clarke Carlisle.
    • 2' A frantic opening with not one pass completed in the opening 90 seconds. Owen Coyle is already barking orders from the touchline.
    • 1' The Championship play-off final is underway on a glorious day at Wembley!
    • - Despite finishing fifth, two places and four points behind United, Burnley beat the Blades both times they played this season.
    • - Burnley striker Steven Thompson thinks player respect for Owen Coyle is what drove them to their league and cup success this season:
    • - Burnley are playing a more orthodox 4-4-2, with Wade Elliot and Chris McCann continuing in midfield ahead of Joey Gudjonsson and Chris Eagles. Again, the same line-up that turned out for the semis, an excellent 3-0 aggregate win over pre-season favourites Reading.
    • - So Darius Henderson and John-Joe O'Toole miss out for the Blades, but in honesty it's a pretty strong line-up, the same one that made it through the semis against Preston. Craig Beattie is a lone striker with Cotterill and Halford working the flanks and younh full backs Kyle Naughton (20)and Kyle Walker (18) both given starts in the biggest games of their fledgling careers.
    • - Referee: Mike Dean, of the Wirral, is the controversial choice, with United manager Kevin Blackwell not his biggest fan: Blackwell slams Dean choice
    • - Burnley team: Jensen, Duff, Carlisle, Caldwell, Kalvenes, Elliott, Alexander, McCann, Blake, Thompson, Paterson; Subs: Penny, McDonald, Gudjonsson, Rodriguez, Eagles
    • - Sheff Utd team: Kenny, Walker, Morgan, Kilgallon, Naughton, Montgomery, Howard, Cotterill, Stephen Quinn, Halford, Beattie; Subs: Bennett, Lupoli, Hendrie, Ward, Bromby
    • - With £50 million plus at stake, Sheffield United face Burnley in the Championship play-off final at Wembley, LIVE from 15:00 UK time!
  • Summary

    • 79' Kilgallon with a long ball and Ward handles as he controls and oh no the foolish boy is going to get a second yellow for deliberate handball and he's off! He's only been on the pitch for 20 minutes and two silly yellow cards in four minutes has ruined his and possibly United's season!

  1. West Ham fans have about 35million reasons to see Burnley beat Sheffield United who did not have it then and still don't have it now... Congrats to Burnley...

  2. Well done Burnley!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!
Two years before when I came to this country, a friend of mine (an old English man) at work asked me which is your favourite football team. I knew about cricket, but didn't know much about football. So, after thinking for a second, I replied BURNLEY. He said, Haha... I think you don't know football much. I replied, yes. Then he made a habit of kidding me telling other fellows that I supported BURLEY. They just laughed at me because they were Chelsea or Man United fans.
But now I'll be proud of my choice. I'll be proud of my home team Burnley.
I hope with such a spirit Burnley will become top most in the Football game, InshaAllah.

  19. I am A Clarets fan and obviously " over the moon " at the result. Yes the Blades had a couple of good shouts for a penalty but that was the only time they threatened. Brian Jenson had probably his easiest game of the season. Whilst at the other end Burnley missed three times when it looked easier to score. On a final note Blakwells attempt at pressurising the referee and the having the gall to do a bit of "creeping" to the official in the tunnel before the game was pathetic

From Ross H, on Mon 25 May 5:41PM
