    • 87' Frustration for Cardiff as Jose Enrique gets between Burke and the ball and sees it out for a goal kick.
    • 84' Another big penalty shout as Bothroyd goes down in the box under the challenge of Coloccini, but once more referee Andy Hall turns down the appeal!
    • 82' Chopra fires a shot against the arm of Steven Taylor!! No penalty as it was clearly not intentional, but had the arm not been there it would have been one-all!
    • 79' The crowd continue to roar the home side forward, but it is now starting to look like the equaliser will never come.
    • 76' Newcastle deploy Nicky Butt to shore things up in midfield - he replaces Ryan Taylor.

    • 70' Jose Enrique is fouled and Newcastle havea free-kick... cleared by Cardiff.

    • 66' Alan Smith catches Ledley and is rather harsh booked. "What for?" asks the Newcastle skipper.
    • 65' Newcastle deserve credit for their defending. Steven Taylor intercepts a Whittingham cross and last season's much-maligned defensive line is doing a good job.
    • 63' Cardiff free-kick, Chopra and Bothroyd over it... Chopra tees up his strike partner but the shot is blocked.
    • 62' Newcastle change: Peter Lovenkrands comes on for Danny Guthrie. Meanwhile, Joe Ledley is back on his feet and OK.
    • 60' Marshall goes up well to claim a cross.. but Ledley stays down injured.
    • 57' It really is all Cardiff in the second half here. The crowd are behind them and it seems like the equaliser is just a matter of time.
    • 54' Gerrard knocks a free-kick forward, but the move breaks down for a foul on Alan Smith of all people.
    • 51' Tremendous run from Chopra, who crosses low for Bothroyd and Harper is out bravely to smother it. Bothroyd stays down injured - he should be OK.
    • 48' Newcastle knock it long towards Ranger deep inside the Cardiff half. He is muscled off the ball and ends up conceding a throw.
    • 46' Second half under way! No substitutions from either manager.
    • 46' That's half-time, and Newcastle might count themselves fortunate to be going in a goal to the good.
    • 45' Cardiff have a free-kick 30 yards out, but Ledley hits it into the wall and the rebound does not trouble Harper.
    • 43' Cynical play by Danny Guthrie, who holds back Jay Bothroyd and sees a yellow card.
    • 40' Whittingham goes down easily to win a free-kick that is hotly disputed by Newcastle... but they defend it well.
    • 38' Ledley continues to dictate play in the centre of the park for Cardiff. He looks a very good player.
    • 36' Cardiff have played some good stuff so far and will consider themselves a little unlucky to be behind.
    • 34' The free-kick is drilled in and Alan Smith reacts well to head the ball over for a corner.
    • 33' Jose Enrique is booked and Cardiff have another promising free-kick position.
    • 32' Slick work by Whittingham on the left, and his cross is cleared only as far as Lesley, who sees his shot blocked!
    • 30' Chopra has a shot for Cardiff, but Steven Harper has it covered.
    • 27' What a chance! Great move from Cardiff as Ledley finds Chopra who crosses for Rae, but his shot flies high over the bar!
    • 25' Coloccini is forced into action at the defensive end of the pitch under pressure from Whittingham - he sees the ball out for a goal-kick.
    • 22' Burke's corner is well cleared by Newcastle, and now they have a free-kick as Ledley crocks Barton.
    • 21' Bothroyd goes for goal, and his shot is deflected over. Corner.
    • 19' Jose Enrique fouls Bothroyd - free-kick to Cardiff. Can they get back into the game.
    • 18' GOAL!!! Fabricio Coloccini scores his first goal for Newcastle!! Cardiff fail to clear the corner and the Argentine nets a thumping header from close range!
    • 17' Ryan Taylor's shot is blocked but he will troy across to take the corner on the Newcastle right.
    • 15' Whittingham has a shot which is parried, and Ledley seized on the follow-up... blocked!
    • 13' The sun is creating a real problem for both sets of players - the linesman on one side is even wearing a cap.
    • 11' Burke races down the Cardiff right but is crowded out by Jose Enrique. The ball is back with Newcastle.
    • 9' The new darling of the Toon fans, Nile Ranger, gets a start today, while Newcastle old boy Michael Chopra lines up for Cardiff.
    • 7' Ryan Taylor delivers a long throw from the right for Newcastle... headed away.
    • 5' The free-kick comes to nothing. Newcastle, incidentally, are wearing that lovely yellow-on-yellow change strip of theirs.
    • 4' A classic, mis-timed Alan Smith tackle gives Cardiff a chance to send a free-kick into the visitors' box.
    • 2' This really does feel like a Premier League game. Cardiff might not be everybody's cup of tea, but they have the ground and the support to match their ambition.
    • 1' We have a full house in the Cardiff City Stadium on a perfect afternoon for football. And several thousand Geordies have made the 630-mile round trip.

  12. Cardiff sold some good players in the summer but they won't be far away at the end of the season.
On the other hand Newcastle remain unbeaten and this start to the season must be really encouraging to them and their supporters.
What odds the three relegated sides making an immediate return.
