Newcastle United continued their fine start to the season and moved to the top of the Championship table with a 1-0 win over Leicester. More
- Thanks for joining us this evening!
90'+4 FT. Leicester run out of time and Newcastle go top of the Championship table with that 1-0 win.
90' Adams comes on for N'Guessan for Leicester as the fourth official signals four minutes of added time to be played...
89' Steve Taylor gets forward and wins a throw deep in Leicester's half... Another Newcastle change sees Barton leave to applause to be replaced by Kadar.
85' Newcastle make a change as 17-year-old Vuckic comes on for Ranger, who goes off to a standing ovation... Guthrie makes way for Donaldson.
78' Ryan Taylor is cynically blocked by Berner, who's booked for his misdemeanour. Newcastle have a free-kick on the right, and it's prime territory...
74' Ranger is again the architect as Barton fires over from 20 yards. Not far over at all...
74' Guthrie goes in the book for a silly challenge on Oakley.
70' Ranger's having a great game for Newcastle! He comes inside and lays the ball on a plate for Nolan on the edge of the area. The midfielder shoots straight at Weale and knows he should've done better!
69' Waghorn replaces Fryatt as Leicester make another change...
68' Smith runs onto the ball and has a low shot saved by Weale after Ranger did well to hold the ball up and lay it off.
61' Dyer replaces Gallagher for Leicester...
55' Geremi wants a piece of the goalscoring action! He takes the ball central on the edge of the area and fires a shot inches wide of the left post!
52' GOAL FOR NEWCASTLE! Guthrie fires in a simple but bullet-like shot from the edge of the area! He comes inside a challenge as Ranger lays the ball on for him, and it's an unstoppable rising shot from the midfielder!
46' The second half gets underway...
45'+3 HT. And that's the end of the first 45 minutes. Goalless at the break, can either side break the deadlock after the interval?
45'+1 Wasted chance by Fryatt! He does so well to skip clear and cut inside another challenge, before curling the ball well wide.
44' Late offside flag as Guthrie's put through one-on-one with Weale by Barton's pass. Correct call.
42' The rain's hammering down, and there are plenty of players losing their footing.
38' ANOTHER GOOD SAVE FROM HARPER! Gallagher bends a free-kick round the wall but the keeper makes it down to his left to palm it away!
37' Ranger is incorrectly flagged offside as he holds his run when fed by Barton.
34' Super cross from Oakley from the right, as he sends a pacey, dipping delivery across the six-yard area. No-one can get on the end of it though!
24' Fryatt goes down on the edge of the area as he tangles with Steve Taylor while trying to meet Wellens's ball over the top.
21' SUPER SAVE FROM HARPER! Great bullet header from Howard but the Newcastle keeper is more than equal to it, pulling off a great reaction stop!
18' Newcastle get forward down the left but Leicester clear. Ryan Taylor writhes in pain after a collision, but he's back up after a couple of minutes.
15' Penalty appeal by Newcastle turned away! It's for a double handball, the second of which looked more likely off Wayne Brown as Ryan Taylor's delivery from the left causes panic.
14' Fryatt's again caught off as he tries to race onto a through ball.
11' End-to-end stuff and Geremi races clear, laying the ball on to Guthrie on the right. He cuts inside and squares to Nolan, whose low shot is held by Weale.
5' Leicester are running the rule in midfield at the moment, and N'Guessan tries to ping one in which Steve Taylor diverts into the path of Harper. A stronger touch would've seen an own goal there...
3' Fryatt's caught offside as Howard slips him in with a nice flick.
1' And we're underway at St James' Park...

What game were you watching!
Nowt worse than a sore loser!
A good game from 2 decent teams; one team (NUFC) just shaded it and therefore deserved to win!
Leicester will do well this season and a play-off place beckons!!!!
As for the Toon - squad is disgracefully bare and as a result, we will sadly struggle when injuries and suspensions kick in! We struggled to even field a side last night - that's how thin we are!!!
