    Time:90'
    • West Bromwich
    • Newcastle United
    • FT And there is the full-time whistle. A decent game and a fair result. On this evidence it looks like both sides could contend for promotion.
    • 90+4 And at the other end Duff drills a low shot on target but Carson saves well.
    • 90+3 WEST BROM HAVE THE BALL IN NET. But it won't count. Olsson headed home a free-kick but he was offside and he might have pushed his man too.
    • 90+1 Newcastle will kill some time by giving 18-year-old Nils Ranger his debut. Ameobi sits down.
    • 90' There will be three extra minutes.
    • 89' Taylor is in the right place to clear a cross Moore. West Brom are the side pushing for a winner now.
    • 88' Krul slaps at a corner but then makes a superb save to push over a Dorrans half-volley.
    • 87' Krul has to be alert to gather a sliced clearance from Jose Enrique.
    • 85' Badly timed tackle from Nolan on Cech and he gets a yellow card for his troubles.
    • 83' Tense out there - and you can see players getting tired. Both teams look like they could get a goal though.
    • 81' Another change for West Brom - 17-year-old Kiwi Chris Wood comes on and new signing Simon Cox comes on. Cox scored more goals than any other player in the football league last season.
    • 79' FREE HEADER FOR NOLAN - Awful West Brom defending sees Nolan peel away from the defence from a Barton free but he gets under the ball and it goes well over the bar.
    • 77' Luke Moore turns and shoots in the box but Ryan Taylor is there to block. West Brom now starting to get on top. End-to-end stuff though.
    • 75' Andy Carroll has put in a honest shift up front for Newcastle. The jeers from the home fans will tell you that it is Joey Barton who has come on.
    • 74' Mulumbu is no striker as he shows with a shot that goes near the corner flag.
    • 73' West Brom make a change - the dangerous but sometimes selfish Koren goes off and Dorrans comes on.
    • 72' Great cross field ball from Brunt finds Moore - Coloccini is with him but the defending is poor and Moore gets a shot away. Another good save from Krul though.
    • 70' Koren nearly slices open the defence with a fine pass but Jose Enrique slides in to clear.
    • 69' Carroll finds a little space for himself in the box but his shot with the right boot is screwed well wide of the target. He never really looked comfortable. Joey Barton about to come on for the Magpies.
    • 68' It really is all Newcastle now - but again that cutting edge is lacking a little. They look more dangerous than they did in the first-half though and certainly more confident.
    • 66' Gutierrez now goes down after getting a bang from Zuiverloon. The home fans are, let us say, unconvinced.
    • 65' Gutierrez with a little bit of a dive down the left. He feels the referee has it in for him.
    • 62' The midfield has been the problem for West Brom today. They look dangerous when they have the ball but they just have not been able to win it enough in central positions.
    • 60' Great one-two between Koren and Wood and Koren is clean through. Great chance but KRUL SAVES. Koren really should have put it either side of him but it was too straight and then Wood fluffs the rebound well over.
    • 58' Krul comes out to punch away another cross. He certainly likes getting involved does the young Dutch keeper.
    • 56' Great one-two between Koren and Wood and Koren is clean through. Great chance but KRUL SAVES. Koren really should have put it either side of him but it was too straight and then Wood fluffs the rebound well over.
    • 54' Moments later though and NEWCASTLE SCORE! Great goal too! Smith won it in midfield - he fed to Ameobi who moved it onto Nolan. Great vision from Nolan to quickly slip in Damien Duff and the Irishman calmly finishes. Great team goal.
    • 53' West Brom look a bit shakey defending a free into the box. The ball falls for Alan Smith and his shot is deflected wide for a corner. Nothing comes of it though.
    • 51' Brunt runs at the defence down the left he has men with him but decides to be greedy and shoots. Woeful effort though and well wide.
    • 50' West Brom fans think that Koren was fouled by Nolan but the referee waves it on then Guiterrez thinks he is fouled at the other end. The referee is letting a lot go.
    • 49' Now though Krul flops at a few crosses and it looks like Koren might be able to turn it in from close range but Ameobi just gets a foot in to clear.
    • 48' GREAT SAVE FROM KRUL - he gets down low to push away a fine effort from Koren after Wood did well to hold the ball up.
    • 46' Gutierrez gets in an early cross but it is a little too high for Ameobi.
    • 46' That's the only change at the break and we are back underway.
    • - Harper has not recovered after that bang with Shola Ameobi and he has been forced off. On comes you Dutch keeper Tim Krul.
    • - While waiting for the second-half. Why not check what happened in this afternoon's games. Round-up: Cardiff hit four
    • HT Brunt cuts in from the right again and powers a shot towards goal. It just drifts away wide though.
    • 45+1 Brunt cuts in from the right again and powers a shot towards goal. It just drifts away wide though.
    • 45' Coloccini now gets his booking for digging into the back of Wood.
    • 44' Moore and Zuiverloon both have efforts in the same move. The ball pinging around the Newcastle box. The Magpies seem to have completely lost their confidence.
    • 43' Newcastle on the ropes here a bit since the goal. They just need to hang on before half-time.
    • 42' Coloccini takes out Wood and is VERY lucky not to be booked.
    • 41' Harper a little groggy but he will continue.
    • 39' GOAL FOR WEST BROM! Shelton Martis has scored from close range. It all came from a whipped in free-kick from the left from Jonathan Greening. Harper came out to punch - it fell to Moore whose shot was blocked but the ball trickled free and Martis was there to force it home. In the scramble Harper got a bang from Ameobi and he is now down receiving treatment.
    • 37' The ball runs away from Nolan and Moore has room to shoot but off balance he shoots well wide.
    • 36' West Brom have men forward in a counter attack move but Koren hangs onto the ball too long and Smith gets in to steal it from him.
    • 35' Good work from Carroll sees Ameobi found in the box - he gets a shot away but Olsson is there to get his body in the way.
    • 34' Great sliding tackle from Alan Smith ends another West Brom attack.
    • 32' Gutierrez digs out another low cross from the left and Carroll is there at the near post but the ball gets stuck underneath his feet under pressure from Martis.
    • 31' Newcastle just beginning to win the midfield battle now with Alan Smith again being very involved.
    • 29' Good defending from Jose Enrique sees him bring the ball out of defence under pressure from Moore. Enrique needed to step in after a Coloccini error.
    • 27' Newcastle earn a free-kick in a central position a good 35 yards out. That is still Ryan Taylor country though. He whips it over the wall with pace but it is a little high and wide. Decent effort though.
    • 26' Koren gets a decent shot on target from distance. But it was one of those that he hit "too well" and it ended up going straight at Harper.
    • 24' Moore nearly gets in behind the defence but he cannot get the ball to come down quick enough and Harper gathers.
    • 22' Gutierrez has loads of time to run down the left but by the time he checked back there was nobody for him to cross to.
    • 20' Lively start to this match - not a bucket load of chances but entertaining nonetheless
    • 18' Gutierrez gets his head on a long throw from Carroll. He gets it on target but there was not enough power on it. Still Carson nearly spilled it.
    • 17' West Brom have to be alert to defend a well delivered set piece from Ryan Taylor but they are up to the task.
    • 15' Alan Smith is the Newcastle captain today and he is biting into the tackles in these early stages.
    • 13' The ball drops to Greening on the edge of the box but his shot ends closer to the corner flag than to the goal.
    • 11' Zuiverloon wins a corner after a persistent run down the right but Brunt's cross is too deep.
    • 9' Wood shows good strength up front for West Brom after linking up with Luke Moore but he is crowded out before being able to get a shot away.
    • 7' Gutierrez is causing lots of problems down the left - he has just found Carroll in the box. The young striker then pulled it back to Duff but the Irishman screwed his shot well wide.
    • 7' Brunt cuts in from the right but then drags his shot straight at Harper.
    • 5' Newcastle let Martis go free from a free-kick into the box by Greening. Great chance but the centre-back fluffs his lines and it goes well wide. Awful defending from Newcastle.
    • 4' Luke Moore fires a long range effort after being given too much space but Steven Taylor's body is in the way.
    • 3' West Brom now enjoying a little spell though after Ryan Taylor gave the ball away cheaply. Bright start to this match.
    • 2' All Newcastle in the early moments - West Brom cannot get on the ball.
    • 1' Powerful early run from Carroll and he fires a shot from distance but it is blocked.
    • 1' And we are underway!
    • - Great reception for Bobby Robson but now it is time for the action. Interestingly neither starting line-up includes a new signing.
    • - Newcastle are wearing their rather questionable new yellow shirt this evening. If you have seen it then have a look it is not pretty
    • - Steven Taylor is in the Newcastle team despite calling the club "a joke" in the build up to this game. More on that here
    • - Before the match we will have a minute's applause for Sir Bobby Robson. We all know that he was a Newcastle legend but he also played 250 games for West Brom at the start of his career.
    • - TEAM NEWS: Newcastle: Harper, Ryan Taylor, Steven Taylor, Coloccini, Jose Enrique, Gutierrez, Smith, Nolan, Duff, Ameobi, Carroll - Subs: Krul, Barton, Xisco, Geremi, LuaLua, Kadar, Ranger

  1. God everyone is so nasty on these pages.

The basic truth is that the two biggest teams in the league happen to meet each other on the first weekend. Now being an WBA fan I want Albion to win but to be honest I think come the end of the season both WBA AND NEWCASTLE will be 1st and 2nd and thats all that matters really.

Lets support the teams and once this game is over lets relax safe in the knowledge that were both going to go up.

  2. funny how many sad little scumberland tramps constantly comment on newcastle related threads @uncle al safc, why dont you just "come out" and admit you are fascinated by the toon, all you seem to do is comment on the toon? are the black t@wats and their geordie manager simply to dull??? forever in our shadow...

  3. I have followed this newcastle disaster for many months now and i ashamed for the newcastle fans. newcastle is a joke. these georgie people are too impatient. Because the club not win the premiership in 5 mins mr keegan and his bestest friend mr mcerdermot leave in a huff to try and find better team to manage. Because the newcastle team not qualify for the champions league, mr ashley try to sell his club to the marks and spencer. now they relegated. these people need to understand that these things take much time they not happen overnight. The georgies want things to happen immediately. they do things at a million miles an hour. When the georgie man make love to his wife, he becomes like the hamster, he jump on and goes at it hell for heather-he doesnt even get time to breathe. it is like he is in the 100 metres sprint. within seconds he finished. When the georgie man go to the pub he drinks pint after pint like he has just come from the desert. within 20 mins he so drunk he has to go home on the stretcher. my goodness these georgies need to take time and not be so crazy or they not get anywhere.

  14. I think the fascination is how a huge club? with top four portential? and deluded fans is sitting 11th in the championship and you're still wittering on.
The lot of you should grow up and try and sort your club out before you come on here and comment on premiership clubs that are a world above you.
I watched the game and Newcastle showed they do still have a spark of something but it's going to take a lot of work before they grow a backbone. One goal down and the newcastle players are standing shouting and arguing with each other. Also so lucky that WBAs last goal was disallowed.

  15. is no1 going to comment on Kruls performance in the second half easily kept us in the game and a fair result, but surely shola should take blame for the first goal say what you like about colo but shola watched the ball for the goal and the free kick before that martis missed, we despritly need a striker and some leadership

good play by both teams a victory for either would have been unfair on the other
