    • 90'+5 There goes the final whistle! And Spain win 2-0!
    • 90'+4 Tshabalala comes on for South Africa!
    • 90'+3 Great finish by Mashego, dinking over Reina and into the net! But he's a country mile offside and it won't count!
    • 90' Time nearly up! And the hosts have one foot in the semis!
    • 86' South Africa are on the brink of going through, but a goal at Ellis Park would change everything! Just four minutes to go...
    • 84' Parker unleashes an effort on goal as South Africa break... but Reina gets down well to make the save!
    • 83' Mashego comes on to replace the injured Sibaya...
    • 81' Spain make a change... Riera off and Santi Cazorla on.
    • 74' If you want to follow that game click on this link: Iraq v New Zealand
    • 73' It's still goalless between New Zealand and Iraq, meaning South Africa will still go through as things stand.
    • 72' GOAL! Llorente puts Spain two up! It's a real poacher's goal as Xavi's centre is mis-cued by Fabregas... the ball falls to Llorent who swivells and fires inside the near post!
    • 70' Pienaar tries to slip a clever pass through towards Parker... but Reina is quick off his line to collect and the chance passes.
    • 66' Gaxa now delivers a decent ball into the box... but Modise's header glances wide of the mark!
    • 64' Modise takes Masilela's pass well but his shot is well blocked by the red shirt!
    • 62' Hernandez centres and Booth is forced to put behind for a corner.
    • 61' And off goes Torres, to be replaced by Fernando Llorente.
    • 60' Spain make a change now as Villa is replaced by Pablo Hernandez.
    • 57' Pienaar feeds Gaxa on the right... he delivers a great ball in but Puyol gets a crucial touch out for a corner! The hosts seem have regained a little of their composure now...
    • 56' Pique joins the two South Africans in the book... it's getting a bit tasty out there.
    • 54' And then Dikgacoi hammers Albiol and goes into the book as well! The hosts are losing their cool a little now.
    • 53' Modise loses his cool slightly and gets booked for a challenge on Villa.
    • 52' GOAL! SPAIN TAKE THE LEAD SECONDS LATER! Heartbreak for the hosts, but what a finish from the Valencia man! He takes it on his chest and swivels to hit a first time volley past Khune and into the bottom right hand corner! There's a question of handball, but the ref allows the goal to stand!
    • 51' SAVED BY KHUNE! AND AGAIN ON THE FOLLOW-UP! Incredible double stop by the South African keeper! First from Villa's penalty and then from Puyol's follow-up!
    • 50' PENALTY TO SPAIN! Mokoena dives in on Fabregas as the Arenal man latches onto Villa's through pass! It's a clumsy challenge and the ref points to the spot!
    • 48' Xavi fires a free-kick just wide of the mark! Spain always look dangerous from dead ball situations.
    • 46' Back underway! No changes to tell you at the break!
    • 45'+2 There goes the whistle! And South Africa head in at the break locked at 0-0 with the European champions!
    • 45' Two minutes of added time to be played at the end of the first half.
    • 44' Spain are ending the half well... but South Africa are holding their own so far. Promising indeed.
    • 42' Fabregas and Villa cause consternation in the hosts' defence... Mokoena eventually sees a header bounce back into his keeper's arms.
    • 40' Another chance for the hosts! Pienaar again is the architect, playing an intelligent pass across the face of goal where Modise blazes over!
    • 38' Great work from Pienaar as South Africa break... he feeds Parker, but his effort on goal is poor, very poor! It sails way over Reina's cross bar and the chance goes begging!
    • 34' Khune denies Torres Spain's best chance of the game so far! It's a great save from the South African keeper!
    • 31' Pienaar delivers into the box... but it's cleared by the Spanish defence without any problems.
    • 30' South Africa win another corner as Raul Albiol heads behind... the pressure is building on the European champions' goal!
    • 28' Nothing comes of it though... South Africa are enjoying a good little spell at the moment.
    • 27' Good work by Sibaya down by the Spanish corner flag... and he wins a corner for the hosts!
    • 25' A yellow is brandished in the direction of Albiol... and he becomes the second player to be booked so far this evening.
    • 22' Torres! Not a bad effort from the Liverpool man! He pulls down a long ball into the box, cuts back inside and lets fly! It's a rather scuffed shot, but Khune is brought into action nevertheless!
    • 18' Pienaar's over it... it's Modise in the end who takes it! But it's poor and the ball flies well over Reina's bar.
    • 17' Fabregas is penalised for a little trip on Modise, following a good run towards the Spanish goal from the nippy South African.
    • 16' Arbeloa now delivers a decent-looking cross into the box... Torres is lurking, but Khune reaches it first and plucks the ball out of the air!
    • 15' Torres is allowed to turn, but Mokoena is alert enough to halt the Liverpool striker's progress.
    • 13' Parker stays down after a challenge by Pique... nothing wrong with the tackle, the Barca man just caught him slightly.
    • 12' In the end, the wall does its job, deflecting the ball up into the arms of Khune.
    • 11' The ref's unhappy with the wall... he wants them to get back their yards...
    • 10' Great run by Villa as he gets away from a couple of South African defenders! He's eventually brought down by Dikgacoi, right on the edge of the box... danger looms.
    • 7' Masilela tries to wriggle his way past Puyol now... but he over-runs it slightly and Reina is able to collect. The hosts are growing in confidence, nevertheless.
    • 6' Villa flashes a header over the bar from the resulting free-kick, but the whistle has gone for an infringement anyway...
    • 5' Sibaya becomes the first man to get a booking for a wild challenge on Fabregas... the Arsenal man rides it well enough, and takes the hand of apology offered by the South African, who will now miss the next game, should Bafana Bafana progress.
    • 4' Xavi touches it to Riera! Ooh! Cracking strike by the midfielder! Khune is forced into a diving save to his left to keep it out!
    • 3' Booth fells Torres and Spain have a free-kick, 30 yards out, dead centre...
    • 2' Booth gets South Africa's first touch of the ball a minute and a half into the game. But it's nothing more than a hefty boot clear and Spain regain possession quick enough.
    • 2' Puyol's started the game at right-back, with Liverpool right-back Arbeloa starting on the Spanish left.
    • 1' Here we go! Underway in Bloemfontein!
    • - The stadium in Bloemfontein erupts as the teams take to the pitch... those vuvuzelas are blasting once again!
    • - Referee: Pablo Pozo (Chile).
    • - South Africa: 16-Itumeleng Khune; 2-Siboniso Gaxa, 4-Aaron Mokoena, 14-Matthew Booth, 3-Tsepo Masilela; 10-Steven Pienaar, 6-MacBeth Sibaya, 13-Kagisho Dikgacoi, 5-Benson Mhlongo, 12-Teko Modise; 17-Bernard Parker.
    • - Spain: 23-Pepe Reina; 5-Carles Puyol, 2-Raul Albiol, 3-Gerard Pique, 19-Alvaro Arbeloa; 12-Sergio Busquets, 8-Xavi, 10-Cesc Fabregas, 18-Albert Riera; 7-David Villa, 9-Fernando Torres.
    • - And who would bet against them? Especially when you consider the team they are sending out... it's not full strenght, but it's pretty strong nonetheless. Torres and Villa start up front, Xavi and Fabregas team up in the centre of midfield while the defence boasts Puyol, Pique, Albiol and Arbeloa. Reina starts in goal.
    • - European champions Spain will set a world record of 15 successive wins if they beat hosts South Africa in their Confederations Cup match this evening.

  3. Spain played really well, from the Alberto Riera shot on target,to the final whistle!I supported them and expected them to do it.The talking point is the 50th minute penalty! How come a man like David Villa allow a goalkeeper like Itumeleng Khune to save? And Carles Puyol?South Africa were lucky.Aaron Mokoena was who conceded the penalty, but only seconds later the same man who lost to the keeper scores!David Villa first time volley was sweet. But the second goal was scored by substitute Fernando Llorente, who came on for Fernando Torres, and Pablo Hernandez came on for David Villa.South Africa played a 4-5-1 formation, while Spain played a 4-4-2.
