    Another draw as Peru hold Uruguay

    Yet another Copa America match ended in a draw as Peru held Uruguay 1-1 in an entertaining Group C opener in San Juan. More

    • 90+2 There it is. Another draw - four out of five at the Copa so far now - and the group of death asks more questions than it answers. Next we have Mexico vs Chile, which for me is too close to call.
    • 90+1 PERU SUB: Chiroque on for Advincula.
    • 90' Down the other end it's out for a Peru goal kick. Delay as two balls find their way on the pitch...
    • 89' OH WHAT A CHANCE! Guerrero with the diving header from a tight angle but he puts it wide! Not as bad a miss as Forlan's but you'd put your shed on him scoring there - not your house, but the shed.
    • 88' Uruguay now have Lugano lofting it forward, Hernandez chasing but Fernandez managing to hold on.
    • 87' Advincula wins a free-kick on the right for Peru. Given how tight this group is shaping up to be, Uruguay need to be down the other end, pushing for a win... Wasted, Perez heading away Vargas's cross.
    • 86' Free-kick to Uruguay on the right, more afters. Forlan to take.... Super ball but no-one can take advantage. Cruzado breaks now, super run but Caceres gets across to whack it into touch.

    • 61' Forlan puts it in, a melee of bodies attack from both sides and it spins behind for another corner. Forlan changes the ball, this one a bit flat for him.

    • 50' Acasiete is booked for a cynical trip on Suarez as the Liverpool man turned.

    • 48' Uruguay really piling it on now as the balls are lofted in from wide and Peru have all hands on deck as they desperately try to clear!
    • 47' Lodeiro to Cavani, now Suarez, crossed for Forlan who knocks it back and Lodeiro with a turn and flick but blocked. Appeals for handball off Rodriguez but no way.

    • 45+1 No time to comeback, it's 1-1 at the break after probably the best half of football so far this Copa. Uruguay surely must be backed to overrun Peru now?
    • 45' SUAREZ EQUALISES! Right on the stroke of half-time he slides a lovely low finish past the keeper after a wonderful turn and through-ball by Lodeiro, Suarez spinning off the shoulder of the defender to race in. Lovely goal.
    • 44' JUST WIDE BY GUERRERO! The defence opened up again and Muslera was off his line but the low drive from 20 yards was beyond the far post!
    • 43' Cavani almost gets in after a defensive mix-up but the ball spins away from him and to the keeper. All Uruguay at the moment...
    • 42' Forlan goes straight for goal but Fernandez leaps across like a salmon to palm it away! What a hit from wide!
    • 41' Free-kick to Uruguay is taken quickly and Caceres is clean through but permission had not been given and the ref pulls play back. Forlan with it on the left...
    • 40' Forlan with another corner then, from the right, headed clear and a bit of head tennis until Peru clear fully.

    • 39' Suarez on the left, inside and out but the cross is blocked. Caceres picks it up and his cross is surely handled by Revoredo... yes, free-kick wide left.

    • 37' Theatrical and entirely fraudulent fall from Caceres as he went in on Guevara.
    • 36' Forlan's corner is cleared but back to the Atletico man, who crosses for Lugano again but straight at Fernandez!
    • 35' Oooh deflected wide when Pereira's shot hits an unknowing defender. Good move from Uruguay, Forlan and Cavani involved.

    • 29' Loud cheers as a Forlan through ball is intercepted. The locals clearly favouring Peru, Uruguay being one of their main rivals.
    • 28' Peru now are knocking it about nicely as a long shot from Cruzado flies well over.

    • 24' GOAL PERU! Disaster for Uruguay, caught napping as Guerrero is played clean through, breaking the offside trap on to a simple long ball, rounding the keeper and sliding it in. Deary me, Uruguay caught napping on halfway!
    • 23' Suarez slips it in for Cavani, Suarez is caught but play on and Cavani turns brilliantly but a great block from Acasiete!
    • 22' Uruguay on the break but Suarez elects to shoot a touch early, spinning it wide.

    • 19' Suarez turns into space, he has Pereira on the outside, crossfield now to Cavani as Uruguay regain their composure with the ball...
    • 18' By the way, to ensure those sneaky players don't mess about when taking free-kicks, there is a temporary spray line being used to mark the dead-ball position. Genius.
    • 17' Uruguay are back organised now and able to deal with that corner. Throw to Peru on the left though - their best spell so far.
    • 16' Guevara to take it, just on the edge of the box on the left but his inswinging cross is cleared behind for a corner.

    • 5' Peru with a spell of pressure now, missing Farfan and Pizarro due to ill-timed injuries but holding the ball well.

    • 23:00 Still waiting for tonight's teams, but until they are announced (no doubt at the last minute), let's tal about why I reckon Uruguay are the tip to win this - Argentina and Brazil, perennial faves, have been awful in recent seasons and appear to lack a cohesive team ethic; Uruguay are all about the team, having got to the World Cup semis, and boast a fearsome forward repertoire to boot in Suarez, Cavani, Forlan and Hernandez. They are in form and in the groove.
