England profited from a goalkeeping howler and a goal-line controversy as they beat Ukraine 1-0 in Donetsk to top Euro 2012 Group D. More
90+3' There's the final whistle! England have beaten Ukraine and finish top of Group D. Let's not kid ourselves - it was a rotten performance, and England were incredibly lucky, but somehow Roy is getting it done!
87' England change: Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain comes on for Wayne Rooney.
87' Sheva assaults Young with a terrible, wild hack. Anyone else and that might have been red. For you, Sheva, it's yellow.
83' England change: Andy Carroll on for Danny Welbeck.
79' Ashley Cole booked for time-wasting.
78' Ukraine change: Serhiy Nazarenko on for Denis Garmash.
78' Ukraine change: Bohdan Butko replaces Artem Milevskiy.
75' Yellow card Rakitskiy for a block on Gerrard.
74' Konoplyanka fires a long-range shot that is too hot for Hart to handle, and Lescott does brilliantly to get to the rebound first!
73' Gerrard leads with the arm in an aerial challenge, and that's a yellow card.
70' Here's Sheva!! Andriy Shevchenko replaces Marko Devic to wild, wild applause from the Donbass Arena.
69' England change: Theo Walcott comes on for James Milner. He works hard, but he has been poor tonight.
68' Milner crosses from the right and Pyatov flaps unconvincingly... Ashley Cole fires the ball back in and the goalkeeper recovers really well to tip it behind!
63' It came after Milevskiy teed up Devic and his shot was half-saved by Hart - it looped up and Terry hooked it away. But the re[play shows the ball was just over the line!
62' CONTROVERSY!! Goalline clearance by Terry and the goal is not given for Ukraine! But was it over the line??
54' Gerrard releases Rooney through the centre and it's a foot race now... he doesn't have the pace to get beyond the last defender, and instead has to tee up Milner whose shot is blocked!
48' GOAL!! ROONEY!! It's a bizarre goal! After the corner is cleared, Gerrard fires it back into the six-yard box, the keeper makes a right hash of it and Rooney heads in from half a yard out!
46' Second half under way! No personnel changes from either side.
45' No stoppage time, and England get to the break goalless. Pretty ugly.
32' Gerrard's corner finds Terry unmarked, and now it's the defender's turn to head off target! Not as easy as Rooney's, mind.
30' A slick move from Ukraine sees Yarmolenko jinks inside Ashley Cole and shoot from the edge of the box - Hart is down quickly and holds it!
28' WHAT A MISS BY ROONEY!! Ashley Young's inswinging cross from the left finds an unmarked Rooney at the back post, but he somehow glances a free header wide!
12' Selin crosses from the left and Milevskiy's lay-off finds its way to Devic! Blocked by Scott Parker!
9' Space opens up in the middle for Yarmolenko, who takes a touch too many and cannot get a shot away. But what were England's centre-backs thinking?
1' Oh, spare us the countdown, will you? Right on choreographed cue, Ukraine kick off, playing from right to left as we see it.
19:30 More from Tom in Donetsk: "Ukraine fans are getting a Mexican wave going in a one-third-empty stadium, Hardly 'Welcome to hell' at the moment." Tom Adams on Twitter
19:15 Speaking of stinking hot and at the stadium, time to introduce our man Tom Adams, who is in position at the Donbass Arena. He will be tweeting throughout the game, so give him a follow - @tomEurosport Tom Adams on Twitter
19:10 A note on yellow cards - it has been put about that they are wiped at the end of the group stage. Not so - only after the quarter-finals are any remaining bookings discarded. Says UEFA Article 21.04: "Single cautions from matches in the final tournament expire on completion of the quarter-finals, and are not carried forward to the semi-finals."
18:55 Hello and good evening. My name's Alex Chick, and I will be your waiter this evening. England need only a draw tonight to reach the Euro 2012 quarter-finals, but as any fan with half a memory knows, there's many a slip between cup and lip. Will England do it? Ukraine had 3 shots on target same as England, We scored with one of them they didnt. Its all water under the bridge now no point in blabbing on about what could of been, England won the game and the group. Whinge all you want, England will just laugh in your face. Cmon the England.
No debate to be had here. If he had been rightly flagged offside in the build up (a yard offside) then there would never have been a shot to cross or not cross the line. I note the Ukranian coach has adopted the Wenger approach of "i didnt see it" regarding this point
After poll position may England will in the position to win the EURO..... but one strong competitors are their which is Germany. it is possible we meet with them in Semi's...England team's performance is better than expected in tournament yet so we hopefully our team will reached in Final and win the tournament.....come on Ronnie.
