Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice as Portugal booked their Euro 2012 quarter-final place with a 2-1 win against Netherlands in Kharkiv. More
90+5' There's the final whistle, and so ends a miserable tournament for the Netherlands. But credit to Portugal, who were excellent tonight. They finish second in Group B, behind Germany, and will face the Czech Republic in the quarter-finals.
90+3' Joao Pereira booked. Doesn't matter, as bookings are wiped after the group stage.
89' Ronaldo so close to a hat-trick! He's on the right this time, and he strikes a left-foot shot off the base of the upright!
88' Sneijder plays Van Persie through - he's just onside but shoots wide of the right-hand post. Bad miss.
88' Portugal sub: Rolando comes on for Nani for the final few minutes.
82' Van der Vaart strikes the post! He hits a gorgeous right-footed shot from outside the box, but it smacks the woodwork with Patricio left helpless!
75' Well, that is the end of the Netherlands. As things stand it's Germany 7, Portugal 6, Denmark 4, Netherlands 0. And now a Danish goal would send Germany out! Denmark v Germany LIVE
74' GOAL!! RONALDO AGAIN! His second of the night - great counter-attack from Portugal, Nani finds Ronaldo on the left and he cuts inside before drilling the ball into the bottom-left corner!
73' From Tom Adams in Kharkiv: "Bento was celebrating there and smacks the bench, as the Portugal subs kick water bottles all over the place. What a save from Stekelenburg." Tom Adams on Twitter
72' NANI!! Great save Stekelenburg but he had to score! Ronaldo raced down the left and rolled the ball across the six-yard box for Nani, whose low shot was saved - anything in the top half of the net was a certain goal!
72' Portugal change: Custodio comes on for Raul Meireles.
69' The Dutch have gone to three at the back. Meanwhile, Van Persie is in the book for leading with his arm on Pepe. And I'm sure we'd all like to extend our sympathies to the Portugal defender...
68' Netherlands change: Tally Ho! Ibrahim Afellay replaces beleaguered left-back Jetro Willems. Holland chucking everyone forward, but who will win the ball now?
66' Good save Stekelenburg! That could have been curtains for the Dutch! Ronaldo comes away pacily on the break and tees up Coentrao, whose left-foot shot brings a smart diving stop from the Dutch goalkeeper.
65' Portugal sub: Nelson Oliveira comes on for Helder Postiga, who has been really poor tonight.
60' OFFISDE!! Postiga puts the ball in the net but the flag is up! Pepe nods down for Ronaldo, whose scuffed shot is turned in by Postiga - but he is a yard offside and it's a good decision.
51' There's that argy-bargy we were looking for. Willems flies into a rash challenge on Moutinho and that's a yellow card. He misses Holland's next match. Not that it looks like that will matter...
46' Second half under way! No personnel changes, but has Van Marwijk made a tactical adjustment to stem the red tide?
45' No stoppage time at all, and that's the end of a cracking first half. Netherlands need to win by two but they are being held. As things stand in Group B: Germany 7, Portugal 4, Denmark 4, Netherlands 1. The Portuguese are going through...
33' Ronaldo powers a long range shot, and Stekelenburg fits the dipping effort away! Portugal very much in the ascendancy.
31' Nani cuts inside from the right and strikes a left-foot shot just wide from outside the box! Not far away...
29' Right, Portugal are going through again! As it stands: Germany 7, Portugal 4, Denmark 4, Netherlands 1. Portugal through thanks to their head-to-head victory against the Danes.
28' GOAL!! CRISTIANO RONALDO!! He's finally done it! He runs on to a sumptuous through ball from Joao Pereira and beats Stekelenburg!
23' Ronaldo! Meets a right-sided cross with a powerful header and Stekelnburg claws it away!
17' Awful backpass from Van der Wiel, playing Postiga clean through... but his low shot is deflected wide by Stekelenburg! Corner.
16' RONALDO!! Cuts inside from the left, breezes past Vlaar and strikes a low shot off the outside of the near post! Still no joy for Portugal's captain and star man.
11' GOAL!! RAFAEL VAN DER VAART FOR HOLLAND! Cracking finish, taking Robben's lay-off and curling it into the left corner from 20 yards! Perfect start for the Dutch, who need to win by two to go through.
1' Game on! The Dutch are on the ball, playing from right to left in an all-black strip with some orange trim. Portugal all in red.

Ronaldo is the best player ever
The Fairy Queen scores twice.....sickening, especially against The Netherlands!
response to the number 111.Sorry? Portuguese what?Portuguese GYPSIES??Where u from???oh,romania.....I though so...
blame it on Arjen Robben
The Dutch lost three games by one goal, but they lost. In another group they might have advanced, but even Denmark is a class team that would without any doubt qualify in any other group. UEFA needs to fix the rules, espcially for seeding teams. Not to seed Germany, but Poland and Ukraine was nothing but incompetence.
Arjjen Robbens new employers have just secured his vaunted services for a 6 month trial period as a novelty act with Chipperfields circus providing he makes the grade and becomes a popular crowd pleaser: he`s flicking balls with his head, feet and off the chest with the seals but the trainer has got everything under control I understand: if Robben fails to give the balls back to the seals, who are very popular with the crowds, especially the children the lion trainer takes over in an enclosed cage with 3 bengal tigers to chase the miscreant Robben until he drops his balls or they get Clawed off him. This form of training is considered to be humane for the tigers by the trainer and the RSPCA who always allows each tiger in turn to have a playful wrestle with Robben who seems to be getting the idea of the game by running away as fast as he can with the balls and might eventually learn from bitter experience (Clawed balls) and developing a higher voice pitch that he is supposed to distribute the ball amoungst the seals now that the tigers have his scent of fear. Past football coaches and managers who were unable to get Robben to do anything he was told despite bribes of high salaries and financial rewards are very interested in Robbens progress and training in the circus as a novelty act and are understood to be prepared to make bids for his services if he proves to be suitably trained and still usable next season.
the dutch should have started both van der vaart and huntelaar from the outset of this competition. you can't leave your top qualifying goal-scorer on the bench in a major tournament. well, actually you can, but look what happens.
@109 - Bite me cow-tipper. Go De Oranje ! You're no footie lover, you're just a pr/at lol.
@105 -Haven't you got to pay your pimp or something you racist bell-end. PO you bungle.
The ever-so-lovely de Jong said, prior to the match, that Portugal had a few good offensive players, but the Dutch team was better. Nigel, Nigel...Who's going home with zero points, now?
Ronaldo should have had two more and an assist.
the dutch had 62% possesion 514 passes to 314 other stats were evens except their shots on goal were half that of Portugal so not totally outclassed But what on earth were the strikers up to?
@101 - PO bindipper -we don't care what you anti-English bungles have to say for yourselves. Jog on you muppet.
Kudos to the portugal team. They have a mission i.e. To knock out netherlands from this competition and they have thus achieved their set goal. I dont want to take anything away from the portugal team, they played more cohesive football than the netherlands. Goodbye to euro 2012 and get prepared for world cup in the qualifiers any moment after this competition. What a tough group, but the better 2 emerge from the group and i wish them good luck in subsequent matches. Toyin kadiri
i hope Portugal & England meet AGAIN in these Euros & get knocked out by Portugal yet AGAIN! lol Goodluck
Dutch were totally outclassed tonight; something seriously wrong within the Holland camp. Might have been arrogance or over confidence in their own ability and chances of winning but they have certainly failed to perform throughout the competition. Writing was on the wall for Holland when the FA announced that England would be looking to redevelop English football based upon the dutch stystem.
The Dutch have squatted in their pants! I said this would be Robben's Waterloo year! Sorry, the coach will have to pack his bags right away!
Great game. Holland played good but the portuguese were just better. Ronaldo played amazing finally.
Good job Portugal, shame Denmark couldn't beat the Germans because that would've been a great turn out for the odds. Oh well but I suspect both Germany and Portugal to make it to the semi finals and hopefully be alongside Spain and England (if not England then France or Italy/Croatia). But I will stick with England for now.
