  • Live Commentary

    Time:90'
    • Hamburger SV
    • Celtic
    • 90+3' It's finished 0-0. On the face of it a good result but you suspect that it won't be enough for Celtic to qualify for the next phase.
    • 90' There'll be three minutes of added time to be played...
    • 89' McGinn's ball is overhit and his frustration is evident.
    • 87' Torun replaces Pitroipa for Hamburg.
    • 83' Change for Hamburg. Germany international Trochowski is on for Jansen.
    • 82' A win of course would change everything for Celtic and that's what they really need.
    • 80' That means that if this game ends in a draw, Celtic's only hope would be to overhaul Hamburg in second.
    • 79' Hapoel are beating Rapid Vienna 3-0 in tonight's other game in Group C...
    • 78' Samaras's cross from the left is overhit. There was only Fortune in the box to aim for though.
    • 75' Third and final change for Celtic. McGinn is on for Robson.
    • 73' Great save Zaluska! Rozehnal's header is tipped over the bar by the Celtic keeper.
    • 71' Ze Roberto's corner kick is miles too long and the ball is out of play to moans from the home fans.
    • 70' Berg's header drifts wide. I think Hamburg are beginning to run out of ideas.
    • 67' It's getting pretty scrappy and the referee isn't helping things.
    • 66 Yellow peril! Robson and Jarolim are both in the referee's book after an altercation on the touchline.
    • 65' Not a good couple of minutes for Samaras! The Greek is yellow-carded after jumping into Rozehnal.
    • 64' A half-chance for Celtic but Samaras's shot is tame and straight at Rost. It was a cracking ball from N'Guemo to release the striker.
    • 62' The Dutchman will hobble on though...
    • 61' Mathijsen appears in trouble after being landed on by Fortune.
    • 59' Fortune comes on for McGeady, while Naylor takes the place of McDonald. McGeady's hardly been in this one.
    • 57' Mowbray is preparing a double change and it looks like Fortune and Naylor are about to be introduced...
    • 56' Elia drags a shot just wide of the far post. It's a really good spell for Hamburg, Celtic are hanging on...
    • 54' Hamburg are appealing for handball inside the area but the referee waves away the claims. I have to say I couldn't see who it hit but the home side were adamant.
    • 53' We almost had a goal then! A poor ball from N'Guemo was seized on by Elia who ran forward before getting a shot away that was spilled by Zaluska. Hinkel was on hand to make sure that Pitroipa did not pick up the loose ball.
    • 51' It's still raining in Hamburg. Unfortunately it's not raining goals. That doesn't fit in with tonight's theme, though I'm sure Stephane G could find a link...
    • 49' Mathijsen's attempted header loops off his back and it flicks off the top of the crossbar. It would have been a very fortunate opener.
    • 47' It's been a more patient start to the second half than we saw at the start of the first.
    • 45' Mowbray's team have only won one of their last 26 away games in continental competition, but they could really do with making it two out of 27 after tonight.
    • 45' It's Celtic turn to have kick-off and The Hoops get the second half underway.
    • - We're back out for the start of the second half and there do not appear to be any changes...
    • - I stand very much corrected! Thank you, david e, for enlightening me. Apologies Stephane G.
    • - You could be excused for thinking that at 0-0 this match has been a bit of a slow-burner but it started like a house on fire...
    • 45+1' After just six seconds of added time, the referee blows the half-time whistle.
    • 45' Hamburg win a generous free-kick after Jarolim goes down under the challenge of N'Guemo...
    • 44' A promising attack for Hamburg breaks down after a poor pass by Elia.
    • 43' Crosas's inswinging kick goes just past the post of Rost. It wasn't a shot by the Spaniard but the ball almost snuck inside the post.
    • 42' The first half is ending a little scrappily.
    • 40' Samaras attempts a long-range shot but the Greek is slipping as he shoots and the effort is straight at Rost.
    • 38' I gave it the big build-up but frankly that shot from Ze Roberto was barely worth mentioning. Awful.
    • 37' There's no doubting that Ze Roberto has been fouled though...it's a free-kick 20 yards out after a foul by Loovens...
    • 36' Pitroipa goes into the book after a rather poor attempt to win a free-kick on the edge of the area. Yellow card for diving.
    • 35' While Hamburg have unquestionably had the better of it, those two opportunities for McDonald were gilt-edged.
    • 32' Another great chance for McDonald! And again he misses it! The Australian goes through once more but as before is denied the opening goal by Rost.
    • 30' Rozehnal balloons the ball over the bar. It might bring back not-so-fond memories for fans of Newcastle United.
    • 29' It's a noble attempt, Stephane G, but I'm not sure what hornets and, for that matter, volcanoes have to do with Bonfire Night. I'm not saying that I couldn't be convinced that they are intrinsically linked...
    • 28' The Hoops fans who have made the trip to Hamburg are in their usual good voice.
    • 27' You have to hand it to Mowbray for the way he wants his teams to play, but Celtic here are far too open.
    • 26' Elia's ball in from the right is a yard in front of Ze Roberto and Zaluska is able to gather.
    • 25' Jansen hits another shot just wide of Zaluska's post after a sloppy pass from McDonald. The visitors are giving the ball away far too easily.
    • 22' McDonald's pass out wide is miscontrolled by McGeady and the chance of a breakaway is gone.
    • 20' Zaluska has to be on his mettle again after Jansen runs at Celtic's defence and hits a shot low to the keeper's left. Celtic are losing possesson a little too easily in the middle of the pitch.
    • 19' Ze Roberto seeks to extract his own punishment but the midfielder's free-kick flashes just wide of Zaluska's left-hand post.
    • 18' Caldwell goes into the referee's book for a blatant handball that prevents Ze Roberto getting in on goal.
    • 17' McDonald's through on goal...but the striker's shot is too close to Rost. A great chance goes begging for the visitors.
    • 16' N'Guemo goes in hard on Ze Roberto and the referee blows for a foul...
    • 14' But Celtic's defenders are getting much tighter to the Sweden international after an early scare.
    • 13' Berg looks a threat up front for the home side...
    • 11' Let our fun and games not detract from a very important evening for Celtic. After a cracking (props to mitchmitch) start to the match, both sides are now adopting a slightly more cautious approach.
    • 9' mitchmitch3131 has only gone and included two references to explosions in a single sentence! Sir, I salute you!
    • 8' Everyone is up for a Celtic free-kick but Crosas's kick drops into the arms of Rost.
    • 6' The wet conditions in Hamburg are going to make it very hard for defenders tonight. Already this has the look of being a very entertaining game.
    • 5' It's been a firecracker of a first half so far...admittedly we've only played five minutes but we've also had five minutes without any reference to Bonfire Night...
    • 4' It's been a wide open start to the game. Robson fires over for Celtic after Samaras's slip inside the area.
    • 2' The Hoops are all over the place early on. Marcus Berg finds himself in acres at the back post but can't beat Zaluska at the near post.
    • 1' Celtic are in their change strip of black and luminous yellow hoops.
    • 1' Hamburg get the first half underway. The home side are in white shirts, red shorts and blue socks.
    • - It's Bonfire night tonight folks and you know what that means...yes, puns aplenty! I'm going to start off with the obvious 'hoping for fireworks'. Feel free to suggest your own. The more terrible they are, the more likely they are to receive an airing in tonight's commentary.
    • - Anything less than a win tonight and Tony Mowbray's side are going to find it very difficult to progress from Group C.
    • - 3,000-plus Celtic fans in north Germany hope their team can salvage their Europa League campaign after defeat last time out against Hamburg left hopes hanging by a thread.
    • - CELTIC TEAM LINE-UP: Zaluska, Hinkel, Caldwell, Loovens, Daniel Fox, Robson, Crosas, N'Guemo, McGeady, Samaras, McDonald. Subs: Cervi, Naylor, McManus, Fortune, Wilson, McGinn, McCourt.
