    • 21:40 So as Atletico win their second Super Cup in three years, we'll bid you goodnight. Remember the Premier League continues tomorrow with champions Man City against QPR the highlight. You can follow it all LIVE on eurosport.yahoo.co.uk.
    • 21:36 ATLETICO MADRID WIN THE EUROPEAN SUPER CUP.
    • 90+2 FINAL WHISTLE. CHELSEA 1-4 ATLETICO MADRID
    • 90+1' Two minutes of stoppage time to be played.
    • 90' Just as i say that, Emre gets clear and pulls the ball across goal towards Arda Turam; David Luiz getting in between them and turning the ball against his own post!
    • 90' Atletico are just winding down the clock now, but Chelsea, anchored by the impressive Oscar, have looked much better in this second half.
    • 89' CHELSEA SUB: Ryan Bertrand replaces Cole.
    • 88' Falcao unsurprisingly gets a standing ovation after his goals, although he probably only touched the ball half a dozen times tonight. Emre, of course, is familiar to millions having spent many years with Inter in Italy and a short time at Newcastle United.
    • 86' ATLETICO SUB: Emre replaces Falcao.
    • 84' Atletico break again. It's Filipe Luis with the low, left-footed shot. Cech gets down to stop the shot. Cristian Rodriguez started that move off.
    • 82' Free-kick to Atletico for a foul by Mikel on Rodriguez.
    • 81' CHELSEA SUB: Daniel Sturridge replaces Mata.
    • 80' ATLETICO SUB: Raul Garcia replaces Koke.
    • 79' Oh. Lovely one-two between Hazard and Mata. Mata tries a shot from the edge of the box, but it's over. It was on his weaker foot and from a tight angle. Plus he was running away from goal.
    • 78' More good play from Oscar. He attempts to set-up Torres... but Godin heads the ball to safety.
    • 77' So our stat monkeys did all that work in vain perhaps. Chelsea's last 4-1 defeat only came in May; Liverpool dishing out that one in a League match at Anfield.
    • 75' That's Cahill's second goal of the season, making him the most prolific defender on the pitch, in terms of this season, at least..
    • 74' Gary Cahill goes up for the header from Lampard's corner, but can't make clean contact. The ball goes loose and it's Cahill who reacts quickest to fire the ball underneath Courtois to net a consolation goal.
    • 74' GOAL: CHELSEA 1-4 ATLETICO MADRID
    • 73' Lampard with a powerful shot. It's blocked and Chelsea have a corner.
    • 73' If Hazard has hiw way though, Chelsea will at least get on the scoresheet. He wins a corner after again using his pace with the ball to force a save from Courtois.
    • 72' The match in question was a 5-1 League Cup semi-final second leg defeat at the hands of Tottenham on January 23, 2002. Of tonight's starting line-up, only Frank Lampard remains.
    • 71' Our stat monkeys have been hard at work. If the match finishes with this scoreline, it will be Chelsea's worst defeat for over a decade.
    • 69' Koke's free-kick bends right into the danger zone. SUAREZ GETS IN, BUT MISSES THE BALL AND CECH HAS TO GET DOWN LOW TO PREVENT ANOTHER GOAL. The corner comes to nothing.
    • 68' The performance of Oscar will be one of the positives that Roberto di Matteo takes from this game.
    • 67' Ivanovic gets into a good position on the right wing. He crosses into the box... Godin clears with his head... OSCAR WITH A POWERFUL SHOT and it's just wide. That's the closest Chelsea have come in this match.
    • 65' Torres and Falcao are both having a chat with the ref. Torres was a tad unlucky to concede the foul on Rodriguez.
    • 62' You'd have thought that a Chelsea defence featuring John Terry might have done a bit better there.
    • 61' It's the centre-back Miranda with the goal; his first of the season. Gabi's free-kick is simply not attacked by anybody from either side. The ball drops to the feet of Suarez, who mishits his shot sideways. Miranda is perfectly positioned though to steer the ball past Cech.
    • 60' GOAL: CHELSEA 0-4 ATLETICO MADRID
    • 59' Torres catches Juanfran from behind, and that's a free-kick to Atletico. Good to see the striker tracking back.
    • 57' Miranda brings Hazard down just outside the Atletico box. How that's not a free-kick, I'll never know.
    • 56' Adrian did look to be struggling a bit since the break.
    • 56' ATLETICO SUB: Cristian Rodriguez replaces Adrian.
    • 55' Mata and Mikel with a nice one-two as the Atletico defence stands still. Hazard skips past two of them, but his shot lacks power and Courtois easily picks it up.
    • 53' Koke's corner comes to nothing.
    • 52' Suarez's header is deflected out by Ivanovic and that's another corner.
    • 51' Arda Turan is having a terrific game. Wide or central, he's winning everything and not misplacing a pass. This time he wins a corner.
    • 49' Miranda with a misplaced pass and the ball goes loose. TORRES HITS IT FROM THE EDGE OF THE BOX and it goes wide by about a foot. That's better from Chelsea. Torres has three goals already this season, so he had the confident to try a shot.
    • 47' A slightly different look to the trio behind Torres for Chelsea then, and this will probably force the Chelsea line a little higher.
    • 46' CHELSEA SUB: Oscar replaces Ramires.
    • 46' The second half is underway.
    • 20:46 We're back and ready for the second half.
    • 20:33 Join us again after the break to see if Chelsea can do something - anything - to get back into this game.
    • 45' HALF TIME: CHELSEA 0-3 ATLETICO MADRID
    • 44' So six goals in five days for Falcao then. Deadly finishing from the Colombian. 42 goals in 53 games for Atletico too.
    • 44' Falcao completes his hat-trick. The counter attack winds up with Arda Turan on the edge of the Chelsea box and able to choose between three team-mates to pass to. He chooses Falcao to his left and the Colombian manages to take a touch under pressure from Ivanovic and then place the ball under the body of Cech.
    • 44' GOAL: CHELSEA 0-3 ATLETICO MADRID
    • 44' Atletico break again.... Oh dear. This could be very bad news for Chelsea...
    • 44' Cole evades Juanfran on the left and plays a cute little short pass into Mata. Chelsea win a corner as Miranda puts the ball out.
    • 43' Hazard is on the ground. No free-kick this time. That's a bit of Chelsea's frustration boiling up.
    • 41' Interestingly, Chelsea have had the majority of the posession; 58 per cent in fact, but Atletico's expert counter-attacking has made all the difference.
    • 40' Ashley Cole with (and we say this so rarely, that it's worth repeating) a useless crossfield ball. It's nowhere near anybody in a blue shirt. And when Ashley Cole's passing goes awry, you know you're in trouble.
    • 38' Adrian is caught offside. Better use of the line from Chelsea there. Correct decision.
    • 36' I'll say it again. Chelsea were very, very lucky.
    • 35' GREAT CHANCE... Falcao feeds Arda Turan into the box. Turan pulls the ball across the face of goal ADRIAN MUST SCORE... NO!!! Six yards from an open goal he somehow manages to steer his shot off his toe and right into his face! FALCAO ON THE REBOUND.... but the header hits the post!!
    • 33' Mikel and Mata with some good interplay, Mata crosses in towards Torres in the box, but Miranda easily heads the ball clear. That's more like it from Chelsea. A couple of minutes of solid posession. They need to do a bit more of that for the remaining 12 minutes of the half.
    • 31' Chelsea have a free-kick. Arda Turan fouled Cole.
    • 30' Torres fouls Suarez and Atletico have a free-kick 35 yards out. Gabi takes it and Cech comes out to punch it away.
    • 29' Suarez heads towards goal from Koke's corner, but it's easily into Cech's hands.
    • 28' Ivanovic is booked for dissent.
    • 28' ...And Atletico break again. Chelsea can't get near the balll. This is too easy. The ball comes to the right foot of Gabi inside the box.... CECH BLOCKS GABI'S SHOT and Atletico have a corner.
    • 27' Chelsea have a free-kick. Juanfran brought down Hazard. The attack is broken though as Ivanovic loses the ball to Godin...
    • 26' That's 41 goals for Falcao in 53 appearances for Atletico. He cost £31million just over a year ago, but he looks well worth every penny with finishing like that.
    • 25' Chelsea look shell-shocked at this. Top of the league, three wins out of three and now they've been undone in the space of just 12 first-half minutes by the left boot of Falcao.
    • 24' Hazard with a great little swerve to evade Suarez. He plays the ball towards Torres, but the ball's easily intercepted by Gabi.
    • 22' Ramires is led off the pitch, but looks like he'll return soon enough.
    • 20' Ramires is down and looks injured. He clashed with Mario Suarez, but there was nothing malicious. If anything, there looked to be more intent on his part than the Spaniard's.
    • 20' So that's five goals for the season already for the Colombian. Both of tonight's goals were via his left boot. And he's a right-footer too!
    • 19' It's Falaco again. He evades the offside trap to pick up the ball from Adrian on the edge of the box and watches as Luiz and Cahill back off him. No problem. He chips the ball with his left foot and watches it curl in past Cech at the far post. Superb. Absolutely superb.
    • 19' GOAL: CHELSEA 0-2 ATLETICO MADRID
    • 18' The free-kick works its way into the box. The clearance is only as far as Cahill, who TRIES A POWERFUL VOLLEY. Ramires got a touch right ahead of the goalkeeper, but was flagged offside.
    • 18' Mata is fouled on the right wing by Filipe Luis. That'll be a useful free-kick for Chelsea.
    • 17' Atletico work the corner and exchange a few passes. Adrian crosses into the box... Arda Turan's header is off target though.
    • 16' Gabi's won the ball in the middle of the park from Mikel and quickly spreads the ball out to Adrian. The Spaniard storms into the box and tries a shot from a tight angle, but Ivanovic gets it out for a corner.
    • 14' Gabi has all the time in the world to pick out Falcao in the box. But David Luiz is able to head the ball away just as the flag goes up for offside against the goalscorer.
    • 12' Juan Mata lobs the ball into the Atletico area. Eden Hazard traps the ball well and lays it off for Lampard. LAMPARD WITH A LOW DRIVE, but it's blocked well by Godin. Chelsea regain posession though, HAZARD WITH A CURLING SHOT FROM THE EDGE OF THE BOX, but it's over. Nice idea and nice technique there from the Belgian.
    • 10' ...in fact, he starts a swift counter-attack, but there aren't enough bodies forward and Chelsea are able to regain their shape.
    • 10' The ball is back into the Atletico area with Ramires and Godin is the one who gets rid of the danger this time.
    • 9' Branislav Ivanovic, for the first time, gets a bit of joy down the right wing. He passes low to Ramires, who jinks into the box, and goes to ground under pressure from Filipe Luis.
    • 8' That's Falcao's fourth goal of the season - and it's still August!
    • 6' It's Atletico's goal machine, Falcao, that breaks the deadlock. He ran onto a glorious through-ball from Gabi, shook off the attention of David Luiz and clipped a shot over Petr Cech, the ball ending up in the back of the net after bouncing off the inside of the far post. David Luiz got close to clearing it off the line, but was just short.
    • 6' GOAL: CHELSEA 0-1 ATLETICO MADRID
    • 5' Adrian Lopez gets to the byline on the left. Another dangerous cross... Arda Turan is beyond the far post. He tries to hook it back, but the danger is cleared.
    • 4' Very, very, very lucky escape for Chelsea.
    • 3' The danger's not over. Koke slips the ball to the advancing Filipe Luis... the Brazilian gets to the byline and crosses into the box. FALCAO MUST SCORE... NO! His shot cannons off the top of the bar.
    • 2' Atletico are first to mount an attack through Koke on the left. He pulls the ball central to Adrian. ADRIAN WITH A POWERFUL DRIVE... but Gary Cahill uses all his body to block the shot.
    • 1' Chelsea get us underway via the boot of Fernando Torres. The Spaniard, don't forget is a total Atletico icon and bagged 82 goals in 214 games between 2001 and 2007.
    • 19:44 Kick-off should be just a minute away now.
    • 19:43 Incidentally, of that starting line-up of 2010, only Diego Godin remains with the side.
    • 19:42 This is Chelsea's first appearance in the Super Cup final since 1998. They beat Real Madrid 1-0 that night with a goal from Gus Poyet. Atletico, meanwhile, were victorious two years ago; beating Inter 2-0 with strikes from Sergio Aguero and Jose Antonio Reyes.
    • 19:40 Atletico, meanwhile make just one change from the side that thrashed Athletic Bilbao 4-0 last weekend. Adrian Lopez comes in for Cristian Rodriguez, who drops to the bench. Club captain Tiago - a former Chelsea player - is suspended, but the Spanish outfit do have Thibaut Courtois in goal, and he's on loan from Stamford Bridge.
    • 19:35 So Chelsea make two changes from the side that beat Newcastle 2-0 on Saturday. Frank Lampard and Ramires replace Raul Meireles and Ryan Bertrand, both of whom drop to the bench. David Luiz continues in defence alongside Gary Cahill as John Terry is suspended.
    • 19:30 ATLETICO TEAM: Courtois; Godin; Filipe Luis; Juanfran; Miranda; Mario Suarez; Koke; Arda Turan; Gabi; Adrian; Falcao. SUBS: Asenjo; Silvio; Cata Diaz; Raul Garcia; Emre; Rodriguez; Diego Costa.
    • 19:30 CHELSEA TEAM: Cech; Ivanovic; Cahill; David Luiz; Cole; Mikel; Lampard; Ramires; Mata; Hazard; Torres. SUBS: Turnbull; Bertrand; Romeu; Oscar; Meireles; Moses; Sturridge.
    • 19:25 Good evening and welcome to our LIVE text coverage as the 37th edition of the European Super Cup between Chelsea and Atletico Madrid approaches kick-off in Monaco. Team news will follow shortly.
  • Summary

    • 21:36 ATLETICO MADRID WIN THE EUROPEAN SUPER CUP.

  5. @Keith..."Atletico madrid can't be that good, they're not even in the champions league"...Ath. Madrid destroyed Chelsea as you rightly said they should be in UCL but are not in Champions League just goes to show how strong La Liga is...don't you understand this simple point

  6. @A You just said no EPL side has defeated a La Liga side in a championship. What about Real Madrid - Arsenal 0-0, 0-1. Arsenal - Villareal, 1-1, 3-0, or 1-0, 1-1. Arsenal 2-1 Barcelona, Chelsea - Barcelona 1-0, 2-2. Let's not forget Liverpool - Real Madrid 1-0 4-0 and Barcelona - Man U 1-1 0-1. Know your facts before posting rubbish comments.

Haaak....what a big laugh...!!! this prove that chelsea won champions league was totally 100% fluke. roberto matteo follows arsene whinger or arsenal famous quote "WE CAN WIN 7 TROPHIES THIS YEAR" first chelsea lost their first of their 7 trophies to man city in the shield then flops and got thrashed 4-1 in super cup with star players like torres, mata, oscar and future player of the year hazard...!!! where was hazard? he is in the middle of the park...i guess the only trophy chelski most like tio win is the league cup this year....i wish them gud luck...!!!

  9. Another English team bites the dust at the hand of a La Liga team!! I don't know why people keep commenting that the EPL is the best league. It is a great league but not the best league. Results support my conclusions, no English team has beaten a La Liga team in a Championship during the last 10 years. La Liga teams have won a combined 5-UEFA/EL championships, 7-UEFA Supercups, and 5-Champions League titles more than any other league. Quick head to head comparisons between EPL and La La Liga teams in finals over the last 10 years. CL Final -Barcelona beats Man U twice & Arsenal once UEFA/EL Final-Sevilla beats Middlesborough & Atletico Madrid beats Fulham

  11. @Keith 454. If you had been following my comments on these blogs you would know as I have made it quite clear. It's MU. Try to understand what you read. Atletico is not in the Champions league but they humiliated you. And also let's not forget that Chelsea didn't make top 4 to be in the CL either. You are there only because you won it last season otherwise you would be playing Europa League this season. @Michael 441. You can cover up the defeat in as many ways as you like, dress it up as you like, but it still doesn't change the fact that , yes, the Champions of Europe have been humiliated by a team that didn't make the CL. As for the hate, I don't hate Chelsea, not like you guys hate MU and jump at every opportunity to abuse the club. I hate the arrogance. Now that the shoe is on the other foot it's not very nice is it? I think enough said on this subject. Time to move on.

From Oliver Cesar, on Sat 1 Sep 8:39
  20. It seems that there is a lot of angst here or maybe stupidity . Forget the malicious comments be real supporters and talk about how you experienced the "game" . What is clear is that Chelsea were out played in the CL semi and final and from that point are very lucky . Against AM they were again out played despite the efforts of Hazard and Oscar but on this occasion they suffered for it , you cant rely on "Luck" she is very fickle . Consider the fact that Arsn and Man U. were after both of the previously mentioned players who are very good , both teams dropped out when the price went very high . This is a similar position to when Chlsa bought Essien,Robben ,Mikel and Balack who were supposed to go to other clubs and at the last minute were "persudaed" to go the Chelsea . They had to pay compensation for Mikel , Robben left for RM now BM it looks like Essien is off and Balack left . My point is are chelsea being trapped into paying over the odds for players are Man u. chasing players and driving the prices high while they are very selective with their buying and Arsn even more so . Compare the three teams this season Chsa are of to a flier , not so Man U. and Arsn but they have very young teams emerging and have spent very little on the last three or four years RVP apart . See what Christmas brings a fully fitand integrated Man. U and Arsn and maybe not so fully fit Chlsa , remember lady "luck" . Maybe the boys own sides against "the mercenaries" . Untd and Arsn will not do worse Clsa will on the balance of probability . Take in to account Everton and of course Man Cit and the aging of Chlsa's team , lots of games and the winter cold and mud . On Balance i thnk that we saw the real chelsea emerge from this match bleary eyed scratching its combined head a victim of its own hype , Hazards comments of "three" are just wishful thinking . Yes they will be difficult to beat even with Terry and Cole
