  • Live Commentary

    • 90+4 Full time and Everton are out, Wigan in the semi-finals and the home fans very upset. What a result for Martinez! Boo, hiss from the home fans!
    • 90+3 Baines slides a shot well wide on the run.
    • 90+2 WHAT A MISS! Coleman heads wide of an open goal after Osman's finish was batted into his path by Robles. Deary me.
    • 90+1 WIGAN SUB: Alcaraz is replaced by Golobart.
    • 90' Four minutes added time being played.
    • 89' Kone takes the ball down superbly but excellent defending by the still-quick Distin to cover.
    • 87' Gibson is the latest player to be booked.
    • 86' Gomez needs some treatment as the ball goes out of play but he'll be okay.
    • 85' Heavy collision between Osman and Gomez... Play continues but will stop soon.
    • 84' BARKLEY MUST SCORE BUT HITS WIDE! Anichebe with a run down the left, Alcaraz with an error to leave the ball and Barkley mis-hits his finish.
    • 83' Coleman does well to shrug off Kone before beating Maloney. Very nice but too late.
    • 82' Terrible free-kick from Pienaar but Wigan fluff the clearance, almost putting Jelavic in but it's cleared. Now Kone gives chase to Scharner's long ball but Mucha comes out to head to touch.
    • 81' Free-kick to Everton as Boyce fouls Pienaar.
    • 80' Achiebe releaes Barkley, who rounds Figueroa but almost goes down - Everton want a penalty but he seemed to just stumble.
    • 79' A long ball from Figueroa almost releases Gomez but Everton are able to clear.
    • 78' EVERTON SUB: Mirallas is replaced by Barkley, the young local attacking midfielder.
    • 76' Jelavic is now offside. Everton fans are continuing to walk.
    • 75' Mirallas has one ruled out as the flag went up as soon as he was put through. A yard off.
    • 74' The ref has a chat with Osman as Everton grow more frustrated. Not as frustrated as Miyachi, who is stretchered off.
    • 73' WIGAN SUB: McArthur replaces the injured Miyachi.
    • 72' Baines with another cross but Figueroa clears. Wigan still down to 10 as Miyachi receives treatment. Baines gets in space again wide left but a poor cross lands for Robles.
    • 71' Baines picks out Mirallas in the box but an unusually heavy touch from him sees Wigan clear.
    • 71' Baines puts it out of play with the Japanese lying in a heap by the advertising hoardings. He just came back from an ankle knock and is down holding it again.
    • 70' Miyachi is left in a heap after a very strong challenge from Mirallas, but it was fair says the ref and Everton play on.
    • 69' Fellaini wasn't too happy with the abuse, and went straight down the tunnel. We may hear some more on that - Moyes wanted him to stay and watch.
    • 68' Coleman with a high ball in for Jelavic, who fails to bring it down much to the away fans' delight.
    • 67' EVERTON SUB: The home fans boo their star man as Fellaini comes off for Gibson. Fickle.
    • 66' Kone gives away a free-kick on the right.
    • 65' Everton clear the corner, or they should but Fellaini inexplicably gives the ball to Figueroa, who should do better but hits it straight at Mucha! Now McCarthy and Miyachi combine but Mucha reads it to hack out. Throw Wigan.
    • 64' Beausejour and McCarthy combine, the Wigan man getting a corner in the end.
    • 63' Coleman loses control of the ball while taking on Beausejour. Looks like Wigan have held firm.
    • 62' The home fans are getting restless now - Everton needed to pull one back early but Wigan have resisted.
    • 61' Actually Figueroa got a touch on that, landing awkwardly as he did. Play is stopped as he got a whack on the head in the process.
    • 60' Another corner to Everton now but Jelavic's effort comes off the top of his head and away.
    • 59' Baines takes this one but Wigan scramble it away as far as Osman. Now Distin clips Scharner and Wigan will take their time with the free-kick.
    • 58' Now Everton have a corner on the left. It yields a second corner as a Mirallas cross is headed behind by Kone.
    • 57' Figueroa with a cross from wide but Distin heads clear. Still Wigan's though as they keep the ball on the left...
    • 56' Fellaini enters the book for a late challenge on Maloney.
    • 54' Jelavic clears Maloney's poor near-post corner. This will be a long 40-odd minutes for Wigan.
    • 53' Wigan have a corner now after a good run from Beausejour. Get one here and it's game over.
    • 52' Anichebe is proving a nuisance while Fellaini is looking more influential from deep. I can see Everton pulling at least one goal back.
    • 51' More good play from Everton as Anichebe and Mirallas combine, but it's too congested for Fellaini to get the shot away and Robles gathers.
    • 50' FELLAINI VOLLEYS JUST WIDE! Much better from Everton as the Belgian flies in with a nice shot from the edge of the box.
    • 49' Baines takes the free-kick but he drives it too close to Robles, who pulls it into his chest.
    • 48' Maloney is booked after a desperate lunge on Mirallas after he gave the ball to him.
    • 47' Friend is speaking to several Everton players after Wigan get a free-kick after Heitinga uses his arm on Kone.
    • 46' EVERTON SUB: Phil Neville had a shocker and is replaced by Victor Anichebe, meaning Fellaini moves deeper into midfield in a 4-4-2.
    • 46' The second half is underway.
    • - Everton come out a few minutes early, possibly to escape the fury of Moyes.
    • 45+3 Half-time and Wigan lead 3-0. The home fans boo. I would not want to be an Everton player in the dressing room right now.
    • 45+2 Wigan fans cheer every pass but stop short of making Brazil comparisons, what with Brazil being average these days.
    • 45+1 Mirallas spins off Scharner, who recovers well to clear. He puts it out for a throw. Scharne has an absurd haircut reminiscent of a 1980s New Romantic group.
    • 45' Long from Heitinga but Figueroa heads clear. Three minutes added time.
    • 44' Wigan have another free-kick, left of centre, 30 yards out... Maloney to take it AND HE ALMOST CURLS IT INSIDE THE TOP RIGHT BUT MUCHA TIPS IT OVER!
    • 43' Everton clear that but Scharner has stayed up, flicking a volley that initially looks goalbound but is going well wide.
    • 42' Wigan have a corner on the left and again Friend has to speak to jostling players... Maloney to take...
    • 41' Gomez is hacked down by Osman after Fellaini gave it away. Osman is booked.
    • 40' Neville goes in hard on Beausejour, who is rolling about... Only a booking, could easily have been red. Neville is having a 'mare.
    • 39' WIGAN SUB: Miyachi replaces the injured McManaman.
    • 38' Neville with a deep cross that Fellaini nods on but Alcaraz clears. McManaman has picked up a knock...
    • 37' Baines and Pienaar combine, now Fellaini but Boyce clears - screams from the home fans as they thought that was high but it looked all right to me!
    • 36' Everton have stepped it up a gear - they're 16/1 to win this now and 8/1 for the draw.
    • 35' Free-kick Everton on the left which Baines swings in for Fellaini, but Wigan get that away.
    • 34' Everton fans heading for the exits - although given how Wigan defend that is very premature!
    • 33' GOAL WIGAN! 3-0 AND GOMEZ WITH A WONDERFUL FINISH FROM THE EDGE OF THE BOX!! Kone got in down the left and cut it back for Gomez, who side-footed it into the bottom left with Mucha statuesque! Another first-time effort.
    • 32' Neville will have nightmares about that pass. No idea what he was doing, there was no-one in a blue shirt even close to where he played that. Can only think he thought Baines was deeper than he was. Fine finish mind!
    • 31' GOAL WIGAN! WHAT A GOAL FROM MCMANAMAN! Neville with a terrible pass to put McManaman through and he gets clear of the defence before lashing a ferocious finish past Mucha into the bottom left! 2-0!
    • 30' GOAL WIGAN! Figueroa heads it home from the corner and the visitors lead! Terrible marking, he got away from Osman and no-one followed him.
    • 29' Robles gets grief from the home fans for delaying the free-kick - he wants to know where to take it from but the ref is still talking to Mirallas. As he does send it upfield, Wigan win a free-kick on the left. The free-kick is cleared, but the loose ball drops to MCCARTHY WITH A SUPER STRIKE BUT TIPPED BEHIND BY MUCHA! Great save!
    • 28' Figueroa slips while trying to clear, Beausejour cleans up though and earns a free-kick off Mirallas, who is convinced the challenge was fair and he should have a throw.
    • 27' Fellaini combines nicely with Mirallas but the return ball sees Fellaini's control let him down.
    • 25' Gomez tries to release Beausejour down the left but the ball skips off the wet surface and out for a goal kick.
    • 24' Pienaar with a cute pass to release an overlapping Baines, but his cross is blocked; the loose ball drops to Neville some way out but he hits a rising drive well wide.
    • 23' Baines swings a free-kick in for Fellaini to knock down, but Jelavic's volley is well over.
    • 22' Kone reacts with a mixture of anger and bemusement as he is called offside - he is bemused because he was in his own half when the ball was played.
    • 20' I say that and then McManaman gives it away to Fellaini, one touch from him with Jelavic sending a rasping first-time drive that Robles does really well to save!
    • 19' Wigan have shaded this so far, they do not remotely look like a team battling the drop.
    • 18' Coleman slips in possession and Maloney races away down the left, superb cross with his left AND KONE FLIES IN BUT HE HEADS OVER! Should have scored!
    • 17' Osman rages at Friend after being penalised for a trip on McManaman. He could talk himself into the book here but Friend calms him down.
    • 16' Beausejour sends the corner deep but Alcaraz's header back across goal drops well wide.
    • 15' Down the other end Gomez wins a Wigan corner off Neville. More even an encounter than these sides' league standings would suggest.
    • 14' Baines swings the corner in but it's a touch too deep, coming off a stretching Jelavic and behind for a goal kick.
    • 13' Jelavic nabs a corner off Alcaraz, somewhat fortunately as the ball shaved the Paraguay defender's boot as Jelavic miscontrolled it.
    • 12' A promising spell of possession for Wigan ends as Figueroa hammers a long shot well wide. He's made them count before!
    • 11' Jelavic has a pop at the linesman after he flags Pienaar offside. Friend orders Jelavic away.
    • 10' Maloney pops up on the left wing, he beats one man, cuts inside Pienaar AND UNLEASHES A BEAUTY OFF THE BAR! What a strike, and it's still alive but lands too wide for Kone to finish and Everton scramble clear!
    • 9' An announcement threatening to eject misbehaving fans. Charming.
    • 8' Wigan come forward but Heitinga and Distin deal with Kone's run and the hosts clear.
    • 7' The drop ball is uncontested and sees Wigan return it to Everton. Still boos ring out. Deary me.
    • 6' Mirallas has a dig from range and it catches Scharner full in the jaw, meaning Friend has to stop play. Scharner is dazed but okay and the fans are frankly short of understanding the rules if they're going to boo the ref for that. It was a head injury, who cares if it came from a shot on target?
    • 5' Kevin Friend has a chat with Gomez after a late one on Neville, who he didn't catch but - as is Neville's fashion these days - the Everton man went down flamboyantly.
    • 4' The ref has a chat with Heitinga and Beausejour over some shoving in the box... Mirallas takes the corner short to Baines, he returns it to the Belgian WHO WHIPS IN A FANTASTIC CROSS FOR DISTIN BUT HE HEADS WIDE! Inches past the post!
    • 3' Good run from Jelavic down the left and his cross is blocked by Alcaraz. First corner of the game, and it's Everton's. Mirallas to take...
    • 2' Everton respond with a spell of possession that ends as Pienaar's ball out wide for ex-Wigan man Baines eludes the England left-back.
    • 1' Boyce's cross for Kone bounces off the Ivorian's head into Mucha's arms. Decent start for Wigan, a fine passing move led to that delivery from wide.
    • 1' The first half is underway, Everton in blue and Wigan black.
    • 12:40 MATCH ODDS (William Hill): Everton 8/15, Wigan 6/1, Draw 11/4.
    • 12:35 FACTS: Wigan have only won two of their last 12 FA Cup games against top-flight sides (D2 L8); On the road, the Latics have only ever won once in the FA Cup against a side from the top tier (3-0 at Sunderland in January 2008); Wigan have won three consecutive away games in the FA Cup (all this season); already their best ever run of wins on the road in the competition. Everton, however, have only lost two of their last 12 FA Cup games on home soil (W8 D2).
    • 12:30 H2H: This is only the second time Wigan have made the sixth round of the FA Cup; in 1986/87, they lost 2-0 to Leeds United; In contrast, this will be Everton’s 28th appearance in the FA Cup sixth round (only four teams have made more); they have progressed through 17 of the previous 27.
    • 12:25 H2H: This is only the second time these North West rivals have been drawn together in the FA Cup; in round four of the 1980 competition, Everton defeated the Latics 3-0 at Goodison Park; The Latics have not won at Goodison Park since their first ever trip there in September 2005 (1-0); since then, they have lost five and drawn two.
    • 12:20 Roberto Martinez: "I don't really think (about the semi-finals at Wembley) because I'm very pleased to get to where we have got so far, but we have done nothing yet. When you are facing a game that could make history, though, for any club that is always extra-special (to reach the semi-finals), and that is why we are going to fight tooth and nail to get there."
    • 12:20 David Moyes: “I think they [the players] are used to these games. Three out of the last five years we have been in quarter-finals, so we are beginning to get a bit more used to it. Hopefully the game isn’t too big that we can’t handle it but, in the same breath, there is a high enough level of anxiety to realise how important it is. I wouldn’t say that we are becoming a better cup team but I think we are becoming a team that is finding a way to win the games."
    • 12:15 Ali Al-Habsi sits this one out, with Joel Robles in goal for Wigan. Ryo Miyaichi is back from an ankle injury but is only on the bench; defender Adrian Lopez has also returned to training from a hamstring problem but he misses out. Young Callum McManaman gets a start ahead of Franco Di Santo.
    • 12:10 There's no Tim Howard for Everton. Last week the American's run of 210 consecutive Premier League appearances came to an end. It has now been confirmed that Howard has broken two bones in his back. He faces a significant spell out, though David Moyes hopes he will play again this season. Full story

  1. Good and frustrating Wigan. They can turn it on to pull out a good result against a top team but then they turn it off again to often and end up in a relegation battle. I think they may have gone to the well to many times and may go down this season.

Dire performance - worst for YEARS - against a dreadful team probably going down playing the game of their lives. Not helped by a officials who allowed constant fouling, elbows, pushes by Wigan 'defenders' to go unpunished. Mucha practically wrestled to the ground at corners will need to carry a tazer for self-protection if joke refs can't do it for him.

  15. Time to say goodbye, Moyes is scared to death of losing, all the sad ex pro's say he is the best manager in the premier league, okay let's put that to bed. 417 league games 558 goals for 1.33 per game against 498 goals 1.19 per game and a win ratio of 42% plus the only team in history to qualify for the champions league with a goal difference of minus one. Try watching us, the minute we score he drops everyone behind the ball, he could turn Messi into a full back.
