    • - It's all over here in Barcelona and not a great night for Liverpool. A great occasion for the hosts though as they cruise to a3-0 win.
    • 89' Straight down the other end Sahar almost gets his hat trick as Degen pushes out and lets him in behind. The angle was too acute in the end though!
    • 89' Riera goes on a run and tries to slip the through ball in on the edge of the area, but he's tackled.
    • 87' GOAL!! That's it and it's Ben Sahar again! Poor defending from Liverpool and when the ball breaks off a deflection to Sahar he just taps it in.
    • 86' Voronin tries to get Liverpool going but when the cross comes in from the left it's far to close to the keeper.
    • 83' Xabi Alonso is on for the final few minutes here as L:iverpool look to get at least a goal back late on.
    • 80' The pitch is cutting up very badly with huge chunks coming out of the surface. The hosts seem to be playing OK on it at the moment though.
    • 78' Great ball from Spearing to Riera, who goes down on the edge of the area. The home crowd give the bird to their former favourite.
    • 76' Torres looks on sourly from the bench. It's not been Liverpools' night tonight and the hosts continue to play attractive football.
    • 74' Espanyol break through the Liverpool rearguard again and once more it's incorrectly halted by an erroneous offside flag!
    • 71' That's cleared easily enough, but the home fans in full voicehere as they look to be easing to a win in their first match in their new stadium.
    • 70' Espanyol have another corner as they continue to enjoy the party here.
    • 66' Liverpool waiting to make a quadruple substitution here as the home crowd raise the volume level up another notch.
    • 63' GOAL!! And it's Ben Sahar the former Chelsea man! Degen with the defensive error that allows Sahar to notch with his first touch!
    • 59' The game has lost some of its momentum at the moment, perhaps as a result of all the substitutions. Liverpool have a corner though.
    • 58' Neat interplay between Gerrard and Kuyt almost sees Kuyt get through the defensive line, but the ball is cleared by Espanyol.
    • 56' Torres in on goal and fires a shot in, but the flag goes up quickly to thwart the striker.
    • 54' Renia easily claims an Espanyol free kick that was aimed far too close to him.
    • 52' Alonso Vallejo almost in on goal there, but despite stretching to the maximum he couldn't quite a toe on the crossfield ball aimed for him.
    • 50' Liverpool have a corner and Gerrard with it. That's cleared by Espanyol though.
    • 48' Luis Garcia has a go from long range, but that one won't trouble Reina.
    • 46' We're underway again and Carragher is lucky not to be pulled up there for handball. He's already on a yellow of course.
    • 45' The half time whistle goes and it's been a very lively opening 45 minutes. The home side lead 1-0. Back with more soon.
    • 44' Liverpool build through Johnson and Kuyt and Gerrard fires wide from range.
    • 42' Another 'pre-season' challenge there from Mascherano on Luis Garcia and that's clearly a yellow.
    • 42' Liverpool a bit lucky there with the offside as Tamudu was played in. Replays show he was onside. Liverpool have hit the woodwork twice though to be fair.
    • 41' GOAL! No it's been ruled out! Late flag there saves Liverpool!
    • 40' A loose ball reaches Johnson on the right and he lets fly from distance, but it goes high and wide.
    • 39' Gerrard tries to get Torres through, but Torres is just offside.
    • 38' Carragher flies into a challenge a bit late to put in kindly and that's a booking in any league!
    • 37' Through ball from Lucas hits the ref, who clears well!
    • 36' Luis Garcia with a long shot and Reina fumbles it. It did moves a bit in the air and he takes it at the second attempt.
    • 35' Kuyt and Gerrard combine but the ball is lost and Lucas gets booked trying to get it back. Late challenge from Lucas there.
    • 34' Carragher clears a dangerous looking through ball in the nick of time. Solid defensive header there.
    • 32' De la Pena again searching for that first time through ball doesn't make it count and Liverpool have it back.
    • 30' Gerrard and Benayoun manufacture a great move and Benayoun takes one touch too many in the area. It's cleared for a corner, which goes behind for a goal kick in the end.
    • 28' Liverpool just starting to put their foot on the gas here now and they look a threat at the moment.
    • 26' Gerrard with it and can you believe it he's hit the woodwork again!! This time a great curling effort hits the post!
    • 26' Torres is through on goal and is brought down on the edge of the area! Free kick and a booking for Pareja.
    • 24' The crowd are loving the start that the home side have made. Will they be able to keep up this sort of tempo though?
    • 22' Johnson takes it quickly and that comes to nothing for Liverpool.
    • 21' Liverpool stunned by that strike and they try and get back on terms through Gerrard, who goes down for a free kick.
    • 19' GOAL! Straight down the other end and a nice through ball is pounced upon by Garcia, who slips it past Reina. 1-0 Espanyol!
    • 19' Gerrard hits the bar for Liverpool!! What a strike from at least 30 yards and the keeper didn't see it!
    • 17' De La Pena it was with that nifty through ball a moment ago and he's seeing a lot of the ball early on.
    • 15' Crowd appeal for a penalty but Tamudu's dive isn't fooling anyone!
    • 14' The crowd enjoyed that one. Lovely little through ball from the hosts just gets to Reina before the striker can get there. Lovely pass though.
    • 12' Espanyol on top so far as you might expect in their new staduim. No real chances for either side just yet though.
    • 10' Reina comes for it and doesn't get there. It goes out for a goal kick though.
    • 10' Garcia advances down the right and wins a corner. It's been a lively start so far.
    • 9' De la Pena and Nakamura get things moving for the home side, but Johnson gets it clear.
    • 8' It's a good delivery, but there's a clash there between Torres and the keeper. Everyone seems to have escaped unhurt though!
    • 7' Benayoun nips down the wing and is brought down in a good position for a Liverpool free kick.
    • 6' Garcia with it and Johnson atones for his error with the clearance and the flag is up for offside anyway.
    • 6' Johnson loses out to former Celtic winger Nakamura and concedes a free kick.
    • 5' The Luis Garcia on display for Espanyol isn't the former Liverpool man either for the avoidance of doubt!
    • 1' We're off and its the hosts who have the first shot on goal from Alonso - not the Liverpool one!
    • - The teams are shaking hands and we're ready to go here!
    • - It's a 40,000 capacity sell-out and the home fans have been here for hours already.

  6. Wow...thats surpising. The only thing is Friendly matches dont mean anything because the players are only trying to get fit for the season. They aren't trying hard. Liverpool WILL be a force this season....they always have been and always will be. I'm not a Liverpool fan, I follow Spurs but this is NOT an indication of Liverpools season. If you are laughing at them, you're foolish and you'll eat your words when they finish higher than your team.

  8. When we lost to barca we played a good second half, probably should have won it, and lost on penalties which is total luck... You got demolished 3-0 by a pathetic team.

  16. liverpool are lacking in their central defensive midfield it makes them weak in their attack and defense there going to cop plenty of goals this year but theyll score enough to win games they should have signed cana he wins a lot of the ball works hard for it and opens alot of oportunities in feeding the ball forward in good postions they need someone strong in the centre with good even like Pirlo,Essien,Iniesta, Gattuso, De Rossi, Sneidjer, Van der Vaart the best of these guys id say is essien because hes strong thats what liverpool are lacking at the moment someone who can win the wall and attack and bring some physical precence to the side im a liverpool fan and this is what they need to win the premiership and even the champions league thats why they lost to chelsea in the champions league last year they didnt have a as strong physical team as them, chelsea were robbed against barca everyone knows it the killed barca

From Femi, on Mon 3 Aug 3:08PM
  17. l,pool fans don,t get it,it,s even gonna get worse with their legion of spain
