    • 90+3 That's full time! Ireland extend their unbeaten record to 14 matches, but Hungary gave them one heck of a test. An entertaining match for sure but Ireland will need to step it up if they are to get out of a horrible group at the Euros. Thanks, and see you tomorrow for France-Estonia and Sweden-Serbia. • 90+3 Great ball by Szabics releases Nemeth and terrible defending to let him clean through but a poor finish straight at Westwood!
    • 90+2 Hungary have a free-kick on the right but the ball spins up in the air and into Westwood's arms.
    • 90+1 Both sides are really going for it as Dzsudzsak again whips in a fine ball but a super clearance from St Ledger!
    • 90' High ball into the Hungary box, Walters attacks but Bogdan claims - Ireland feel a defender handled there but nothing given!
    • 89' Hungary counter as Szabics finds Dzsudzsak but his first touch is surprisingly poor and by the time he digs out the cross Ireland have big men back and it's cleared.
    • 88' Ireland have a corner but it's a bit deep this time from Hunt. McGeady can cross from the left wing but headed clear.
    • 87' HUNGARY SUB: Gyurco off for Koltai.
    • 86' Meszaros is a bit dazed after hitting the deck with Hunt during that chance and he needs some magic water.
    • 85' Hunt on a mazy run, superb skill from him to race into the box but good defending by Meszaros and Bogdan flies out to claim at his feet.
    • 84' IRELAND SUB: Whelan comes off for Paul Green.
    • 83' OFF THE LINE BY HUNT! The corner is cleared to Szabics on the edge of the box, a fine low drive through the bodies into the bottom left and Hunt's decision to stand his ground has saved Ireland a goal!
    • 82' Dzsudzsak races into space on the left, lovely cross but a powerful header from St Ledger concedes a corner.
    • 81' Throw to Ireland, nice routine as Walters flicks it through to Whelan but he shoots straight at Bogdan!
    • 80' Another corner for Ireland as Walters flicks it on, the defenders forced to knock behind. Hungary are able to defend Hunt's ball this time.
    • 79' HUNGARY SUB: Nemeth on for Szalai.
    • 78' WALTERS HEADS JUST WIDE! Should have done better, another excellent cross from Hunt who may be playing his way into the team!
    • 77' Cox finds himself in a lot of space on the right but his low drive is batted away by Bogdan! Great run and pass by McGeady!
    • 75' It's starting to open up now with legs tiring. Westwood gathers after a Hungary attack breaks down.
    • 73' Another good corner from Hunt, and another scramble which sees Whelan lay it off for Gibson who blasts well over.
    • 72' Very good run and cross from McGeady on the left, deflected and it flies just behind for a corner!
    • 71' The Irish are holding on to the ball better than in the first half. A good spell now.
    • 69' HUNGARY SUB: Kadar on for Halmosi.
    • 68' Szalai wins a free-kick off St Ledger, who was shoving him while rising for the header. Not sure why the big man is holding his mouth though, unless he bit his lip.
    • 67' HUNGARY SUB: Szabics on for Szkaly.
    • 66' IRELAND SUB: Gibson on for Andrews.
    • 65' A slightly lower cross from Hunt this time which is deflected half clear before Vargas whacks it upfield.
    • 64' Better from Ireland now as McGeady cuts inside from the right with Meszaros again there to block the cross. Corner. Swung in by Hunt, very good centre but deflected over. Another corner, and another excellent ball to the edge of the six-yard box, a mad scramble and Andrews touches it back to WALTERS but he drags it wide!!
    • 63' IRELAND SUB: Hunt replaces Duff.
    • 62' Great save Bogdan! Walters skips away down the right and he fires in a vicious low angled drive that Bogdan keeps out with a strong right arm, Cox denied at the follow-up by a brilliant slide tackle from Meszaros.
    • 61' IRELAND SUB: Cox on for Keane, who has had a good run-out.
    • 60' A decent cross from the Hungary right but Szalai is unable to get on to it. He feels he was fouled but the ref ignores his pleas.
    • 59' Dzsudzsak's name is all over this, on the right side of the box... straight into the wall though.
    • 58' Gyurcso tries to cut into the right channel but he is taken down by Ward, who is booked for the cynical pull on the edge of the box.
    • 57' Whelan with a long pass that releases Keane, who is off-balance but can't control the ball and Hungary are able to clear.
    • 56' Corner to Ireland on the right, Ward leaps to head towards goal and Keane almost glances it in but it just misses him and lands wide!
    • 55' Gyurcso with a shot from the edge of the box but that's easy for Westwood this time.
    • 54' O'Shea on the right, he cuts inside and feeds McGeady, now Keane tries a one-two but it's cleared. Hungary counter, Szalai finds Dzsudzsak, he shoots AND SZALAI MUST SCORE but a wonderful save by Westwood! Szalai just diverted the low drive towards goal but Westwood somehow got a hand on it!
    • 53' Halmosi on a run and it opens up so he fires it across goal and Szalai shoots but St Ledger blocks. Again poor defending in the full-back positions.
    • 52' Ireland have a corner on the right, which is sent high to the back stick by Duff. Cleared but only to Whelan, who tries to pick out Duff again but overhits it.
    • 51' Defender Gyurcso gets forward again but he shoots weakly at Westwood. Still, poor defending from Ward to let him in.
    • 50' Whelan goes in hard on Varga, who is penalised for the challenge and looks somewhat perplexed.
    • 49' Koman has a dig from range after some confusion between Dunne and St Ledger but he shoots straight at Westwood.
    • 48' Keane sends Waltes clean through but the flag is up - and incorrectly! It was a superbly-timed run, he was level and another poor call from the linesman.
    • 47' A more positive start by the Irish as Andrews swings an inviting cross over but Walters is pushing his marker and the whistle goes.
    • 46' The second half gets underway.
    • - IRELAND DOUBLE SUB: Shay Given is taken off as a precaution, with Keiron Westwood on in his place. Up front Jon Walters replaces Kevin Doyle
    • - HUNGARY SUB: Pinter is replaced by Vanczak
    • 45+2 That's half time, goalless but not for want of trying!
    • 45+1 Ward is ok, no serious damage from that. Play restarts and now Koman is down hurt. He fell unchallenged, turning his ankle on the wet pitch.
    • 45' Ward is down hurt after what was clearly a stamp from Szalai. That was totally out of order. I assume the ref didn't see it as a stamp, but the replay shows that was what it was.
    • 44' Szalai is played clean through by Pinter, superb turn to leave Dunne for dead but Ward slides in with a superb slide tackle! And Szalai seems to stamp on him, the ref blows for the foul... but no card. Hmm, looked a red to me!
    • 43' Doyle can race into space down the left, superb touch, and Korcsmar with a cynical block and he is booked.
    • 42' Dunne with an important header clear as Hungary pile it on late in the first half. Now McGeady brings it away and Varga flies in.
    • 41' Koman has a pop from range, it takes a huge deflection and almost plays Szalai in but this time St Ledger keeps his footing and hacks clear.
    • 40' A decent spell of possession or Hungary but they've not managed to carve anything out since that Szalai chance.
    • 38' All getting a bit ragged now as the rain starts to take its toll.
    • 36' St Ledger looks about in wonder that he wasn't given a free-kick - but no-one touched him, he slipped in the wet. Szalai, meanwhile, didn't realise how much time he had!
    • 35' Chance for Hungary as St Ledger slips and Szalai must score but he snatches at the shot and it's straight at Given!!
    • 34' Whelan swings it towards goal and it sails well over. Poor decision to let him take that from there, too right-footed.
    • 33' Keane is caught late after playing a pass centre-right and Ireland have a free-kick level with the edge of the D. Duff or Ward to curl this in no doubt.
    • 32' Ward gets forward on the left but his cross doesn't get past Varga, the right back. Throw to Ireland.
    • 31' Ireland can counter as McGeady slips it inside to Whelan before racing away - but Whelan makes a dreadful pass in both selection and execution as he overhits an odd ball backwards to Andrews, but behind him. The attack loses momentum.
    • 30' Hungary now have a corner on the right which is taken quickly. Problems for Ireland as they struggle to get it clear and then Dunne puts a size 11 through it.
    • 28' Now Ireland on the attack but Keane can't get a shot away so drifts wide left and lofts a cross in - Doyle attacks but Bogdan rises highest to claim and hold on.
    • 27' Dzsudzsak with another dangerous ball in from the left but it drifts over Szalai and away to safety.
    • 26' Ireland, for all their endeavour, struggle to hold on to the ball for too long. Szalai has a pop but blocked this time.
    • 25' Hungary looking good in possession - until they overplay it and give the ball away.
    • 24' This is a cracker of a match given its context! Hungary really going for it, as is their tradition, and Ireland dangerous on the break.
    • 23' Szalai gets away from Andrews very easily and Koman lays it off for Dzsudzsak who again fires a wicked drive in but Given bats it away!
    • 22' Whelan with a fine ball and McGeady races away down the left but, with a shot a clear possibility, he drills a low ball to the edge of the box that is cleared before Doyle can pull the trigger! Should have gone across goal!
    • 21' This time the straight ball from Pinter is too straight and Given claims easily.
    • 20' Another little scare for the Irish as a clipped ball into the box causes problems but it skips off the wet out for a goal kick.
    • 19' Duff finds O'Shea down the right but this time Halmosi does well to block and clear.
    • 18' WHAT A SAVE BY GIVEN! Dzsudzsak again with a fizzing low drive but the heavy deflection meant Given was going the wrong way, so his ability to twist and get a hand on it was quite remarkable!
    • 17' Duff leaves Halmosi for dead and is free on the right but his cut-back is behind Whelan and Keane stretches but can't reach, Hungary able to clear!
    • 16' Dzsudzsak gets hold of the ball around 25 yards out, he takes a touch before driving a fizzing low shot on target that Given goes well to hold on to after getting down nice and quick.
    • 15' Again given away by Hungary but Andrews's touch is slightly heavy, meaning Pinter can win it back.
    • 14' Long ball flicked on by Doyle and Keane is in but a decent parry from Bogdan as the LA Galaxy striker smacked a left-footed shot across goal.
    • 13' Good tackle from Dunne on Szakaly as the Hungary AM managed to dribble clear into the box. Fantastic slide tackle from the big man.
    • 12' Clever run by Keane who tries to flick the ball through to McGeady but Hungary clear. Ireland may be a defensive project, but they have some players capable of nice touches in the final third.
    • 11' There's a great deal of noise emanating from the half-empty stands, as much the Irish as the locals. Seems like everyone's having a grand time.
    • 10' A mistake in the Hungary defence and McGeady is in! But Keane is in his way through no fault of his own and, in trying to get out of his way confused McGeady, who seems to think he's making a run and half-passes, half-leaves it.
    • 9' Whelan and Szalai are both down after that mad scramble but they get up to continue.
    • 8' Dzsudzsak stands over a free-kick around 40 yards out, superb delivery that causes panic in the Irish box and Szalai attacks it but Whelan flies in to get a touch and KIreland survive!
    • 7' Duff is released on the right from that set piece, he works it on to his favoured left and drifts over an inviting cross that O'Shea meets but he flicks his header inches over!
    • 6' Ireland have a free-kick around 35 yards out on the right...
    • 5' Keane is offside as he gets on to a long ball from Dunne.
    • 4' McGeady is Ireland's very own Dzsudzsak-type player, tricky feet from him on the left but Ward's cross is easy for Bogdan.
    • 3' Dzsudzsak, Hungary's real danger man, gets an early touch on the left but Ireland get hold of it. O'Shea - who hasn't trained recently due to injury - gives the ball away but Andrews is covering and the Irish clear.
    • 2' An early touch for Given, who shows no sign of injury by controlling and booting it upfield.
    • 1' About 20 minutes later than billed, this match gets underway.
    • 19:48 The anthems have been sung and the coins tossed, a change of ends at Keane's request and we'll be underway in a few minutes.
    • 19:43 Looks like they're coming out finally. Both sets of fans seem jolly enough, well-oiled by the local brew one assumes.
    • 19:36 Still no sign of the match kicking off. The Irish are in the tunnel, as is Danish ref Ken Hansen. I think the Hungarians are back in here too. It seems they are waiting for the very heavy rain to subside. And it is very heavy.
    • 19:30 There is a delay ahead of kick-off with the Hungary team not yet out on the pitch, apparently because of the poor weather.

    • 19:05 Giovanni Trapattoni: “Honved and Hungary were great teams with so many great players. They were a fantastic side, like Barcelona now. I played against them, also Florian Albert, who was a member of the second great Hungary team. I knew them later too because many defected to Spain after the Russians invaded. But the Hungarians still have that great tradition and the current team is part of that. Their football school is very beautiful; very technical and creative.”
    • 19:00 Hungary boss Sandor Egervari: "Trapattoni let the traditional Irish virtues unfold and did not try to force the players into a different game than what they were previously used to. The Irish have great strengths, they fight and battle in the air."

  1. @128 and 127 Jay its you who are clueless and I am behind Ireland but if you cant see Hungary ran us off the pitch today and should have hammered us then its time for an eye exam.Trapattoni has lost the plot with his negative approach and its not Football. All this rubbish about teams struggling to score against might work in the League of Ireland but not on the Worlds stage. But just for argument sake say we fall behind then tell me where the goals are going to come from because I dont see it .You have to score to advance and the way we played today should be an eyeopner for everyone. All I wanted was Trapattoni to have half a team of Veterans and half new blood but he is too thick to do that and should be fired not rewarded.I bleed Green but am pretty down about our style of play and chances this Week

  3. Born to Run You are clueless. Sure, Trap maybe should have taken a couple of different players along. Coleman for sure, Houlihan maybe too. But look at Traps record. 14 games unbeaten now. Remember, you have to score against us to beat us. O'Shea, Keane, Duff, may be veterans, but they have what alot of Irish players lack. Big Tournament experience, and that is vital. We've qualified and no team will fancy playing us. We're hard to score against so therefore hard to beat. Just stop moaning and get behind the team.

  4. Scoreless draw, but on the bright side, another clean sheet. You cant beat us unless you score against us. I'm quitely confident that we'll get out of our group. We have strikers capable of sneaking goals on the break in games that matter. 1v0 is more than enough in any match in the Euros. Ask Greece, ask Denmark. Given is one of the worlds best keepers, Honey monstor Dunne is one of the most under rated centre halfs. Keano has one of the best goal per game ratios in international football. If MacGeady shows the same form he did against Bosnia he'll be a menace to any defence. Maclean is our secret weapon!

  7. @No 120 Sinead what are you drinking or smoking if you think this old fool is a great manager in 2012.If he announces tonight that his starting 11 is the same one as this game he should be fired on the spot.Neither O Shea,Andrews,Whelan,Keane ,Duff or Doyle should run out against Croatia next week. They were pathetic tonight and only Walters,Hunt and Dunne can say they played with any Irish passion and pride. We are a mess and trapattoni is the reason.Dump the veterans and bring on the new talent before they go play for other Countries

Your all the biggest bunch of pathetic, ill bred hypricotes when it comes to supporting your beloved England.
