Roy Hodgson made a winning start as England manager courtesy of a classy Ashley Young finish in a 1-0 friendly win over Norway in Oslo. More
90+4' Jarstein dives to make a comfortable stop low to his left from Downing. That should be that. And is that. Norway huffed and puffed, but it is a first win for England in Oslo since 1966. The result more impressive than the performance.
89' Tettey departs to be replaced by Jenssen. This game fizzling out.
84' Adam Johnson has been thrown on to take over from Downing.
83' Henriksen has been replaced by Berisha for Norway.
75' The usual rash of changes in these matches. Huseklepp has taken over from Braaten.
74' Barry is also off with a groin strain as Jordan Henderson arrives for England.
73' Young is going to depart to be replaced by Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who makes his debut for England.
65' Barry gives the ball straight to Elyounoussi. Baines blocks the cross from Ruud. Baines seemed to foul Abdellaoue, but the referee awards the corner rather than the penalty.
63' Pedersen departs to be replaced by Grindheim as Green comes and fails to connect with a corner. Fortunately, Demidov couldn't get there either.
62' Riise darts past Walcott before hammering a shot at goal. Green stands tall at his near post to make the save.
56' Parker departs to be replaced by Theo Walcott, who is sporting a swish beard as he enters the action.
50' Jones sees a shot come back off a post and fly out to safety. An offside flag has gone up against Carroll. Not sure what that was all about.
49' Baines places the free-kick under the wall. Was heading for the corner of the net, but Jarstein dived low to his left to make the stop.
47' Barry has been introduced for England at the break to take over from Gerrard.
46' A rendition of God Save the Queen emanates from the visiting support as the second half gets off and running.
45+1' There goes the whistle for the break! A 1-0 lead for England. A decent first half for Hodgson's team.
33' Parker doing well to blocks the Norwegian shot before Young sends Milner clear. Milner cracks a shot at goal, but Jarstein is down to make the stop.
21' Good defending by Jagielka to win the ball from Abdellaoue in the box. Better from Norway after a fine run and cross from Riise.
13' Pedersen's corner comes back off a post. Not sure Green was going to make that one with nobody on the near post. We remain at 1-0, but England were fortunate there.
12' Green dives to nudge Henriksen's shot past the post. Norway have a corner then.
9' GOAL! Brilliant finish from Young. Goes beyond Hangeland as if he is not there before firing the shot past Jarstein. No chance for the Norway keeper. England lead 1-0.
4' Superb cross by Downing into the middle. Picks out Carroll, but he heads wide. Glorious chance. Should have been the opening goal from six yards out.
1' Norway get the action off and running.

73′ Okay so England won, not a great performance by any stretch of the imagination, but then not the team Roy would have fielded if he hadn't rested the Chelsea contingent or had he had Rooney available for the opening games. No way is Theo Walcott up to the task nor Downing, still think there is something strange in his continous selection under so many England Managers. Jones struggled, the passing wasn't much better than non league pub football at times and yes I too switched across and back to the Eurovision Song Contest....thats another gripe!
Rubbish display from Woy's boys - pub league standard.
Can't wait till the Euros start - Anyone But England.
Really happy for Hodgson he is obviously chuffed to bits with his new job and a win is a win! No reason why England shouldn't do well as long as we play like a team
will never forget smashing germany in a friendly 5-1 but it meant nothing in real competition..
well done to england not the greatest display but a win is a win, people slag of england for there display but if we did this 8 more times in the euros wud u be unhappy about it, i know i wudnt
feel milner is so selfish, carroll is free yet dont wan to pass and choose to shoot.........i think gerrard have to play longer to make him more fit, downing making the defender head pain XD Young nice goal ^^
I can't believe you lot.Roy's 1st game, 1st pick of a team,1st away game, playing Norway, errrrm what else to say ? oh yes we beat Norway o-1.
Well play England, but I'm not sure we are good enough to win if we against other stronger teams, 1st half excellent, 2nd half....bad , Andy Caroll did really well at front and halp the defence, Steve Gerrard made good passes, but something was missing in the team, lucky to keep a clean sheet .
if u want to win loads of cash bet against england in the euros
King Olaf, Roald Amundsen, Liv Ullmann, Edvard Munch, Vidkun Quisling, Thor Heyerdahl, Henrik Ibsen, Edvard Grieg, can you hear me? Your boys took a hell of a beating!
england were probably begging for rooney to come and play on the penalty area, norway were really hoping for their team to just swipe it it past the england goalie, well done ashley young for scoring, but what was that open goal you hit the post on?! the goalie was still getting up on his feet, the defenders were up pitch.
I fully agree with comments made by Michael 22.6 26th.We used to do well playing the proper game i.e.1-2-3-5.so why not go back to it,it was afar lot more entertaining than all thi load of rubbish that is dished up now. These so called pundits must be watchig a different game to me.
urrrm not 1 Chelsea player playd in this game so wTf are you lot talking about lol
Chelski ruined the Champions League final with this sort of play...now it looks like England are going to bore for Britain at the Euros. Well, I for one won't be watching any more of this mince.
The Cancer of Chelsea's style of play has hit Englands now. This marks the end of entertaining/attacking football as we know it.
@ Michael. The Cancer of Chelsea's style of Football has hit England's style. Thats the end of entertaining football as we know it. Norway were all over us.
no wonder England team can't do anything and is always under pressure, look at the comments from their own supporters, this is disgrace from most english. look! if you don't want to support just shut the F**** up and masturb*t*
Reply to barry For God's sake, people, stop using Spain as if they were the supreme in football. --They are NOT. They 'won' Euro 2008 followed by World Cup 2010 - an unthinkable, UNPRECEDENTED in history and very unlikely double. Spain lost ALL matches following the WC1020: With Argentina they lost 4-1 With England they lost 1-0 With Portugal they lost 4-0 With Belgium they lost 2-1 With Italy they lost 2-1 They lost every match. -Without FIFA's and EUFA's referees help, they LOSE. Spain would NOT score 20-1 against England.
