  1. I cannot believe the amount of people on this site that don't understand this wonderful game we call football. Tha's right, friendlies are the only way for a coach to establish his team's style and tactics while giving priceless experience to each of them. Sometimes losses can be a great motivator and certainly the best place finalise improvements. This should not be seen as an excuse to rate teams in any way. As a matter of fact, anyone that rates a team on the basis of a friendly, knows nothing about football, and should probably take up another sport like swimming perhaps. The pressures on the coaches in this modern era are phenomenal to say the least. The good old days of achieving a result any which way is just history now. The fans expect to see entertaining football to instill a sense of pride in your nation, and winning actually comes a close second to this. This is not easy to achieve. Furthermore, I don't believe historical outcomes have any bearing on what happens tomorrow or beyond. As for Scott. There is no hope for you matey. You are a dimm whitted, thick as two planks, old fashioned racist idiot. If you have something constructive to say about football (and this is a site for comments in reation to football), please present it to us. If not, go and do us all a favour and do the dishes or mop the floor or something. I am German, and am married to an English lady and am deeply offended by your comments. Fortunately, you represent a small percentage of people and will always be left in the rearview mirrors of decent people's lives. Erik.

  2. With Germany it;s all about confidence, belief and in some cases arrogance. So yes all these bad results in friendlies and with Bayern Munich (which make up most of the team) is actually bad for them and they have been admitting this recently. Look at Klose he a totally different footballer for Germany and you will know what I mean.

  3. you are so wrong if you think that was real Germany, don't forget 8 player were not there which at 5 of them will play in the first team,,if look at Germany friendly games, they lost most of it,friendly games for German is to test new players new tactic and to find their weakness, not like some other teams whos they win all their friendly games but lose almost all of tourment games or they get knocked out in the group stage.

  6. Clearly there are some idiots here. First of all Germany did not have 7 or 8 players that play for Bayern Munchen. Second, this is a friendly, not a competitive match. They didn't want to risk injuring any of the players with the Euro's less than 2 weeks away. And Laslty, whomever said Schweis was a mediocre team, well that just shows how much they know about football. Are you forgeting Switzerland were the only team to beat Spain in the WC 2010. They have a strong defense, and as I was watching this match, everytime Germany had a corner kick, the whole Swiss team was in the defense helping out in the back, even the strikers. Germany didnt put in a strong performance today, and they left a wide gap in the back sending to many players forward. Hopefully this is a lesson to be learned, but your mistaken if you think Germany is going to go down easy. Their only threat is Spain and the Netherlands. If they can knock both of these teams out then your looking at the future European Champions!!

  10. I agree totally with FB and un_too_slow, some people need to grow up than coming out with stupid and childish statements and talk about the football only. I'm half English and am not a fan of Merkel but I would go on a political forum to talk about that. I'm not a big fan of Germany as a football team either but even I was surprised by this result. But as I said it could be just a ploy by playing a group of tired and demotivated players just to play down their ratings for the upcoming tournament. I know for sure you can never write Germany off in any big tournament. I think England fans have got more to worry about because most of the best players are old and past it even though Hodgson is a good manager and will launch a few youngsters.

From Richard, on Sat 26 May 19:49
  11. I hope that the Dutch, Portuguese and danish had their onlookers here. True friendlies never really give the full picture. I think we play too many of them, in the case of England I think it is just a way of helping to fund Wembley stadium plc. If a player gets injured now, that's it for the Euros 2012. I agree, this forum is for football, which has nothing to do with the events of 1939-45. Here is one England fan who would like to keep it that way.

    From un_too_slow, on Sat 26 May 19:31
  12. Well that's what friendlies are for. What I got out of it: 1. Gundokan and Gotze are not ready for the national side. Too weak, their passes are poor and not powerful enough which slows the game down. The BVB players overall lack discipline and their positioning is poor. Ter Stegen is not quite ready to be a 2nd keeper. Reus must defenitely start with Klose and Poldi. The guy is pure energy. Schurle is a good back up but not a starter ahead of Reus and Muller. Was hoping to see more of Draxler but not enough time to really see what the kid can offer to this team this time around. All in all, I think Loew got some answers, and plenty of work over the coming week. Nice to see general Hitzfield though. He has done great job with the Swiss youth, and hope to see them in the WC 2014. Wish he had never left Bayern. Still miss him

  13. Wtf do wars have anything to do with football? Typical bs comment from englishmen who were not even alive. What do the players wearing jerseys have anything to do with something that happened before they were born? Only a sick desperate english mind that needs to put other people down to hide its own mediocrity can come up with things like this. This is a football site. Want to argue wars, I am sure there are german nationalists as sick as you on some blog somewhere who wouldn't mind discussing popularity contests between the nations. Here we talk football, and more specifically about this game. If you have nothing to analyze, move on to the english news section and write how great Terry and Lampard are. After all, news has it they won a cup recently with one not playing at all, and the other a spectator in the field.

From FB, on Sat 26 May 19:14
  14. @Mike and Kristy haha england unpopular ? yer cause 2 world wars have made germany everyone's best friend, laughing stock of europe yet its germany who put all their money into greece hahahaha smart , comments of a man from the nation with the least sense of humor lighten up and last but not least why shoot your self im sure theres 1 or 2 active gas chambers around

  15. The Swiss have just made Emmenthal out of the German defence. I would be worried if I were Loew, 5 goals are a lot ot concede for a side with a defensive reputation. Though this is not like the traditional Germany sides of before which used to stop the opposition from scoring by all means. Shocking day or the system is not working? Certainly they won't be one of the favourites after this result or maybe its just a ploy....

  18. Disappointed by BVB players. What I feared. They lack discipline, and their positioning is very poor. Germany can't play reckless football like that. Borussia clearly doesn't care about its international football, and it shows on their players. Very disappointed with Hummels's positioning skills. Expected better. His strength and goal scoring appetite is not enough to give him a starting XI with such poor CB performance. Schmeltzer definitely not starting side material.

From NeUr, on Sat 26 May 18:48
  20. he might be good for chelsea, just not good enough for the national side. We have too many players in that position and Marin is not at their level. He has been tried before, and not convincing enough. Perhaps you should watch bundesliga more often and not think so highly of the players that come in england as if england sets the standard for football.
