90'+3 That's it!!! All over, bitter disappointment for Espanyol as they tried to get another big scalp, but Real are still in this title race. Barca have it all to do tomorrow. What a climax to La Liga we could be in for this season! - 88' A chance for Espanyol to get that consolation as they have a free kick from 30 yards out - but although it's a terrific left-foot shot by Nene it drifts just past the right post.
- 83' Tamudo makes a lovely run to try and get the consolation goal that Espanyol so richly deserve, but he blasts high over the bar.
- 80' The Espanyol heads are down now: the spring in the step is gone as they realise they won't come back from those two death blows. Real are dominating and look the more likely team to add to the scoring.

A brilliant, jinking run from Marcelo on the left of the box is finished with a lovely pass straight in to the path of Raul, who buries his finish perectly in to the bottom-left corner. That's the points all but secured, and it's harsh for Espanyol who have been the better side throughout.- 67' GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!! From nowhere Real win a free kick, Guti steps up and absolutely slaughters it in off the crossbar with unbelievable power. Kameni even got his hand to that but it wasn't enough: a strike that good would have needed a full body behind it to stop it. Real are back on course.
- 66' Tamudo is offside as he gets on the end of a De la Pena through ball - but only just.
63' Espanyol bring on club legend Raul Tamudo - and he makes a superb run up the right before putting in a cross which so nearly clears Casillas to find the unmarked Nene. Could have been close!- 62' A move that describes the match perfectly: Robben tries to put in a killer through-ball for Diarra, but he hits it straight at the defender, allowing Espanyol to break.
- 60' The switch makes an immediate positive impact, as Real hold on to the ball and make wave after wave of attacks. Are they finally about to break Espanyol down? The movement finishes with a corner that's well cleared, but the Spanish champions are looking a bit brighter now.
- 58' Double switch for Real: Sneijder, Higauin off; Marcelo and Guti on.
- 57' Real counter and Higuain gets in to the box, but he's shielded off the ball by Sanchez.
56' De La Pena comes up on the counter attack and, after a one-two with Alonso, earns a chance to shoot: it's a brilliant, pwoerful strike that elicits a top-drawer save from Iker Casillas.- 55' Wasteful effort by Sneijder, who was given the ball on the edge of the box with a clear shot, but took way too much time and ended up being closed down. Poor.
- 53' Corner to Espanyol after a penalty shout for handball by Sergio Ramos - but the Real defender got the ball with his head, fair and square. Even if his hands were flailing in the air.
- 51' Sergio Ramos makes a good run up the right but his cross is cut out; and a few moments later he is lucky to escape a booking after pulling down Hurtado Moises with both hands and then, incredibly, appearing to jump on top of him. Seriously. That was madness.
- 48' Good mvoement on either side already this half, without any clear chances being made. Certainly no sign of the opening period's pattern changing in any case.
- 46' We're back in play here in Barcelona's Olympic stadium, where Real Madrid need to find something special to turn over an excellent Espanyol side.
- 45'+1 A little bit of added time to play, and Real have a free kick just outside the box. Kameni picks the ball out of the air and the whistle goes for half time.
- 45' The match seems to be heading for half-time, and it's truly incredibly hard to see how this Espanyol side is still second from bottom in La Liga. They've absolutely been the equal of Real so far, and have enjoyed the best of the - admittedly limited - chances.
- 40' Best chance for Espanyol for a few minutes as Alonso gets a superb shot away: well saved, and De La Pena has a crack too. It goes off for a corner that Real defend with ease, and the moment passes.
- 38' Real are pushing more and more now, but this well-organised Espanyol defence is keeping them at bay with relative ease so far. Still, all it'll need is a killer ball from Robben and things will change in a second.
- 34' De la Pena gets half an arm round the side of the head from Pepe and hits the deck as if he's just been mullered by Tyson. Luckily the ref is having none of his pathetic shenanigans.
- 32' A spinning cross in from the left by Higuain almost finds Huntelaar running in - but doesn't. Kameni takes the tricky catch well.
- 29' As we approach the half-hour mark Juande Ramos looks a little worried as Robben fails to get on the end of a Raul pass. Real simply cannot afford to do anything other than win this match if they are to catch Barcelona. Their rivals play the ever-potent Atletico Madrid tomorrow - a team that could easily nick a couple of goals and win the match against the league leaders - so dropping point shere would be a disaster.
- 25' Two terrific chances for Espanyol as Alonso and Luis Garcia both have chances - but there's a total air shot from Alonso with the best of the two chances. That's going to hurt them.
- 24' Half a chance for left-winger Nene to nip a cross in after chasing down a long pass to the corner flag, and though he gets his foot on it Casillas cuts it out at the near post.
- 21' Nice move from Real - and Robben in particular - opens up a chance for Higuain, who tries a dipping, curving right-foot shot from the edge of the box that flies well wide.
- 19' Robben creates some space down the right, then cuts back for Sneijder to blast a long-range effort. It's an excellent connection and well-placed to the bottom-right corner, but Carlos Kameni saves well.
- 15' The chance is wasted: Luis Garcia's cross floats clean over everyone and out on the full.
- 15' Real start trying to attack as Robben and Ramos combine on the right, but it's quickly cut out and De la Pena is released on the counter. Espanyol win a free kick.
- 12' Good dribbling from Nene is followed by a strike on goal, but the Espanyol midfielder balloons the ball high.
- 9' Espanyol keep pushing, probing for gaps - they are so full of confidence it's almost crazy. A unknowing observer could be mistaken for thinking it's the men in blue-and-white who are trying to chase down Barcelona.

5' Real's right-back Pepe chops down Nene in full flow to earn a yellow and give away a free kick.- 4' Real Madrid win a corner, but it's well defended by Espanyol, who counter quickly. Both sides look in cracking touch already.
- 2' A spirited start, with plenty of big tackles going in already. Espanyol make the early impact as Ivan de la Pena comes up the left to create the first chance of the match.
- 1' The match gets under way: a couple of weeks ago this would have been a nothing match, one of La Liga's worst teams against its best - on current form, that is. But Espanyol beating Barcelona last weekend makes this a real humdinger where you feel anything could happen.
