    Time:90'
    • Sevilla
    • Villarreal
    • 90'+3 That's it, all over and though Sevilla did their best to mess it up they have crawled over the line. Many thanks for joining us, and we'll see you next time.
    • 90'+2 Adriano messes up another chance. How have Sevilla not scored again? Once more they get the ball into the critical areas, and once more demonstrate a startling inability to get any further. It's actually fairly depressing to see so many opportunities wasted.
    • 90' A demonic tackle from Angel (ho ho) clocks up the fourth card of the match for Villarreal.
    • 86' Capel needs shooting: flying down the left for Sevilla with two against one in the centre, and he can't get a ball in. That should absolutely have been the match wrapped up beyond all doubt.
    • 84' After getting into the Sevilla penalty box for the first time in 10 minutes, Cazorla tries falling over - while nowhere near either the ball or any defenders - in an attempt to win a spot kick. Or it might have been exhaustion. One of the two.
    • 81' Sevilla seem to have found the key to stifling Villarreal's counter-attacks, and are looking more and more likely to score. All that's stopping them is some woeful final balls, which are being sprayed so far up the pitch by Romaric and Duscher that even Usain Bolt wouldn't be able to latch onto the end of them.
    • 77' PENALTY!? No, but a goal-saving tackle from Godin, who with the faintest of touches on the ball avoids the red card and penalty he seemed to have earned for his tackle on Kanoute. Another good chance for Sevilla comes from the clearance, but Adriano's cross is well cut out by Lopez with a leap in front of the waiting Kanoute.
    • 72' Villarreal keep coming back at Sevilla, creating more threat in the last 10 minutes than they did in the first hour. But now it's Sevilla's turn to counter-attack, and Adriano fires an unstoppable shot from nine yards out - only to see the golden gloves of Diego Lopez palm the ball calmly away. Lopez has made several astonishing saves tonight, though that was the best of them.
    • 68' Chance after chance falling for Sevilla now, as the home side run 10-man Villarreal ragged. But are they opening themselves up too much at the back? Those counter attacks seem more threatening since the sending-off, and Ibagaza has a good opportunity saved.
    • 66' Great chance there for Kanoute, who's through with only the keeper to beat - but Lopez's excellent placement means that the striker has nowhere to shoot, and the ball ricochets off the keeper's chest.
    • 64' Lovely ball played through for Kanoute from Renato there, but it runs just a little too quickly and the keeper is there to cut it out.
    • 61' A great chance for Sevilla, who now lead the shots on goal stats by 17-2 (and shots on target 7-0). Romaric is the man on the end of Adriano's ball across the box, but he can't quite get his foot in the right place.
    • 58' It turns out that Sevilla keeper Palop earned himself a yellow in the melee following the Llorente red card - for some reason the Sevilla players insisted on haranguing the ref even though he'd already sent off Villarreal striker. Good plan, fellas, that's bright of you.
    • 55' Villarreal prepare to make a change to plug their Llorente-shaped gap - and being a goal down and on the back foot, they're bringing on energetic whippersnapper Mati Fernandez for ageing playmaker Robert Pires.
    • 52' No, no, no... Joseba Llorente of Villarreal attempts a flying mid-air challenge on Escude. Not too subtle, and earns him the least-contested yellow card I think I've ever seen. It's Llorente's second of the game, and he begins the walk back to the dressing room without even a murmur. Romaric takes the free kick and it's not bad, but pushed just wide.
    • 51' It's a MIRACLE! Villarreal are finally bothering to play some football! I was starting to wonder why they'd bothered making the trip. But their attempts to break down the Sevilla back four back fire, and Renato has a great effort on the counter that is brilliantly saved by Lopez.
    • 48' Another good chance for Kanoute, this time the ball coming in from Navas on the right rather than Adriano on the left. But his attempt to control the ball on his forehead - unconventional, but interesting - doesn't quite come off.
    • 46' We're back for the second half on a crisp winter night in Seville, with the half-time chat having revolved around the question of off-side for Renato's goal (either Renato, or Kanoute, or possibly both). But hey, these things happen - and within seconds of the restart Kanoute has a golden chance to score an undisputed 'proper' goal, but managed to clear the bar by 10 yards from just eight yards out.
    • 45'+1 That's the end of the half, and though it's not exactly been a great spectacle the home side are well worth their slender advantage. Let's hope that the goal will encourage Villarreal to come out of their half a bit more.
    • 45' Villarreal finally get up to Sevilla's penalty box, but the home side brushes away the attack and start a counter. It looks like the danger is clear - but the ball is headed back in by Escude to Kanoute, who controls for Renato, WHO SCORES! The Brazilian dinks a little chip around Lopez's outstretched legs. Lovely goal, and well deserved on the balance of play.
    • 41' Sevilla midfielder Konko (now THERE'S a great name) tries a long-range effort, but he's unable to keep it down. From the clearance Sevilla win the ball again and Adriano ends up shooting, but it's not good: reminiscent of that Beckham penalty where the ball ended up in row G. Sevilla have now had 10 shots to Villarreal's one.
    • 39' All the running's coming from the home side here, and they create the first proper chances of the match when a swinging cross from Kanoute on the right finds Romaric in the centre. He connects well, and only an acrobatic back-flip dive from Lopez prevents the goal.
    • 36' More dodgy tackles, this time it's Sevilla's Frederic Kanoute on Villareal's Lopez Ruano. Wallop! This is getting more like ice hockey than football, wonder what the spread betting firms are offering on a mass brawl in the tunnel at half time?
    • 34' Villarreal's Joseba Llorente, unable to keep up with Adriano, brings the nippy Brazilian down with the unusual tactic of grabbing both shoulders and yanking as hard as he can. Unsurprisingly, the referee deems his move worth of a booking.
    • 31' It's a yellow for Renato after the Sevilla man flies in with a mis-timed sliding tackle on Pires. The old man's getting a bit of a kicking already...
    • 29' Penalty shout for Sevilla as Kanoute goes down in the box, but after being hoodwinked earlier the man in black (well, dark grey with red bits) is having none of it.
    • 26' Sevilla put together a nice move on the right, eventually winning a series of corners. But that stingy Villarreal defence keeps them out time and again, with Adriano having the best chance at the far post but failing to make contact.
    • 23' Give that man a SCUBA tank! Adriano Correia jumps to the floor several yards away from the Villarreal defender, and wins a free kick which is whipped in brilliantly by Dirnei. The slightest glance would have put the ball in the net, but it's well taken by Diego Lopex in the Villarreal goal.
    • 21' A free kick for Villareal after Robert Pires is dumped on the grass by Adriano. What a way to treat an old man! It goes nowhere though.
    • 19' GREAT SHOT! A lovely effort from Adriano Correia, who gets onto a good ball from Kanoute and blasts powerfully, but just over the crossbar.
    • 16' First half-chnce for Villarreal, with a long-range free kick attempt from Lopez Ruano. Shame it's utter tripe - the ball trundles off the end of the pitch some 20 yards wide of the goal.
    • 14' Nice little handball there from Nicolas Anelka-lookalike Koffi Romaric. He controls the ball without even looking, and it serves him right when it flips upwards and rolls almost into his hand.
    • 11' A nice bit of play there by Sevilla, who build up well through the middle and give Romaric a try on goal. He unloads plenty of power into the ball but it flies over.
    • 7' All very cagey at the moment. Barca might be out of sight in La Liga, but the second automatic exemption slot for the Champions League group stage looks likely to be contested by these two teams plus Valencia. Neither side will want to give an inch.
    • 4' An early corner for Sevilla comes to nothing as the cagey early exchanges give little away.
    • 2' They're away - and there's a yellow card already! A foul by Kanoute on Cazorla looks innocent enough, but the ref reaches for his pocket for a high challenge.
    • - Welcome to our LIVE coverage of this clash between the fourth and third-placed teams in La Liga! It's two teams in form here, so we should expect some good football.
