  • Live Commentary

    Time:90'
    • Gillingham
    • Shrewsbury Town
    • 90+4 THERE IS THE FINAL WHISTLE AND GILLINGHAM ARE BACK IN LEAGUE ONE. A devastating loss for Shrewsbury but probably a fair result as Gillingham had the lions share of the possession, particularly in the first half, and the better chances
    • 90+3 One last chance for Shrewsbury to force extra time in this clash as Davies puts a cross in from the left of the area ... but Royce just does enough to put Coughlan off as he comes in for the header. Surely that was it for the Shrews
    • 90+1' Shrewsbury make their third substitution of the match as Moses Ashikodi comes on in place of Chris Humphrey
    • 90' GOAL GILLINGHAM! JACKSON HAS SURELY SENT THE GILLS BACK INTO LEAGUE ONE! What a time to score a goal. Jackson gets himself into space right in the centre of the box and heads a corner into the top of the night off a desperate Ashton's shoulder
    • 88' We will have three minutes of injury time before this clash heads into extra time ... unless either side can find a goal in the next couple of minutes
    • 87' Wright finds Jackson in the centre of the area but Ashton is on hand to clear for Shrewsbury again
    • 84' Richards is battling cramp at the back for Gillingham, who are yet to make a substitution
    • 82' Lewis just holds a pass to Jackson for a second longer than expected leaving the Gillingham striker comfortably offside by the time he receives the ball
    • 80' Gillingham continue to have the edge, just. Barcham finds Jackson but the strikers first time pass, meant for Weston is cut out
    • 79' Another Shrewsbury substitution as Nick Chadwick comes off to be replaced by Omer Riza
    • 77' Ashton finds Holt at the far post but Royce reacts very quickly and comes out to claim the ball
    • 76' Substitue Worrall receives the ball as he manages to get just ahead of his man but instead of taking a shot he holds the ball up and the chance disappears immediately
    • 75' Weston tries to find Jackson but his cross is cleared at the near post as Shrewsbury, somehow continue to keep themselves in this match
    • 74' Shrewsbury make the first substitution of the day as Paul Murray is replaced by David Worrall
    • 71' Weston finds Fuller ... who in turn plays Jackson in but he can't connect properly with the ball
    • 67' Davies tries his luck from 30 metres out on the counter but as will all the long-range shots so far today, it is nowhere near the target
    • 66' Barcham works his way into space on the left but his shot is a poor one and the Shrews clear with ease yet again
    • 64' Shrewsbury's turn to be kicking themselves as Langmead heads into the area right to McIntyre in literally acres of space! But he tries to put too much on the ball and the header goes wide.
    • 61' Royce is definitely being called into action a lot more this half than the last as he comes out to collect after Davies whips a left-footed cross into the area
    • 60' The yellow card is brandished for a fourth time in this half and this time Holt is the recipient as he is penalised for a trip on Lewis
    • 59' Another great chance for Gillingham though as Jackson works his way past Ashton on the right before laying off a cross for Barcham. Barcham turns and finds Oli but the final shot is scuffed and Shrewsbury clear
    • 58' Shrewsbury really are working their way into the game now as Chadwick wins a header just outside the area. Royce comes to collect once again though and the Shrews don't have the chance to take a shot
    • 56' Humphrey goes down injured after having the ball taken away from him by Royce after a Holt pass. It looks like he landed awkwardly, he can run it off though
    • 54' Another yellow card! Jackson skips past Murray with ease but the Shewsbury man is clearly annoyed by the trick and brings Jackson down right in front of the referee
    • 53' Shrewsbury are looking a little better in this second half as Holt heads back to Davies, whose volley is collected by Royce at the right post
    • 52' The first yellow cards of the match as both Coughlan and Weston are put in the book for a bit of a tussle. Coughlan earns a free kick which Weston is patently not happy about, refusing to release the ball immediately. Pointless really.
    • 49' Ashton fouls Oli on the right wing and Gillingham will have another chance to get themselves in front ... nothing comes of it though. How many chances do they need?
    • 47' Barcham, in the area, receives the ball on the left from a free-kick before cutting back inside and unleashing a shot on goal. But once again Daniels is there to turn the ball behind and he is fuming. Who can blame him quiet frankly - he is the only thing keeping Shrewsbury in this match
    • 46' A brighter start from Shrewsbury as Holt sends a cross over to Chadwick. Royce is called into action though as the ball drifts a little too close to goal for his liking
    • 46' Gillingham get the second half underway ...
    • HT There's the half-time whistle and Gillingham will be kicking themselves that they are not a couple of goals up. They have had the huge majority of possession but they haven't been able to convert it into goals
    • 45+1' Another fantastic save from Daniels! A Gills throw-in finds Wright, who shoots across the face of goal drawing a reaction save from Daniels, turning the ball behind after diving down to his right
    • 44' Weston looks to find Jackson as Gillingham continue to press forward ... but guess who? Yep it's that man Coughlan again who clears the danger for the Shrews
    • 42' Coughlan has been important at the back for Shrewsbury so far today as he clears from Oli after Ashton has failed to take care of the danger
    • 40' Jackson has been fairly quiet so far but he gets his first chance on goal as the clock ticks over to the 40 minute mark. Again though the shot is off target
    • 39' Davies tries to find Chadwick but his ball is too high ... the ball falls for Holt but the final shot is shockingly, literally shockingly as it goes miles over the bar!
    • 37' King finds space down the right once again but the run into the box is blocked and the ball goes out for a throw-in
    • 35' Davies causes Royce his first heart-stopping moment of the game as his free-kick from 40 metres out whistles past the right post
    • 33' Chadwick goes down injured after receiving an elbow to the head from Fuller. Gives the Shrewsbury players a well-needed break
    • 31' What a save from Daniels! Somehow the Shrewsbury keeper manages to turn the ball over the bar after Nutter shoots from the near post after Wright's corner. Should be 1-0 really after that!
    • 30' Oooh! A real chance for Gillingham there and Moss is forced to clear the ball with his chest as Fuller's crosses drifts towards Barcham at the far post
    • 29' Gillingham have a throw-in just by the corner flag on the left after a ball meant for Oli instead finds the head of a Shrewsbury player ... but again it comes to nothing
    • 27' Shrewsbury have a surprise free-kick just five metres outside the area - but Royce comes to claim the ball with confidence
    • 25' Gillingham are finding acres of space down the right and this time it is Lewis who makes the break - once again though Shrewsbury just about manage to clear
    • 23' A great corner from Gillingham is wasted by Wright as he tries a shot from just outside the area, sending the ball flying well, well over the bar
    • 22' Nutter whips a free kick (won by Oli) in from the right and it takes a last-ditch Coughlan header to clear. It'll be a corner for Gillingham though
    • 19' Weston is beginning to cause really trouble for Shrewsbury now as he breaks down the right. But the final ball meant for Jackson goes astray
    • 17' Oli tries to find Weston, cutting the ball back fro the right, but Daniels collects the ball on the way through
    • 15' Shrewsbury launch the ball upfield for Holt to do something with once again but Richards just gets the better of him and the ball is sent behind for a goal-kick
    • 13' Nutter with the first shot on target of the day .... but it's blocked by Coughlan. That was good from the Gills left-back
    • 10' The first corner of the match goes the way of Gillingham but Shrewsbury have no trouble in dealing with it, heading the ball away from danger
    • 9' Davies is again found on the left, after a break in the centre by Holt. But for a second time in as many minutes Fuller is more than equal to the task and clears for the Gills
    • 7' Davies breaks down the left for Shrewsbury but great work from Gills captain Fuller sees the ball dribble out for a goal-kick
    • 6' The free-kick is played up towards Barcham, who is free, but he can't quite reach the ball properly to bring it under control
    • 5' Jackson gets a knock to the head for the Gills and wins a free kick for his troubles. He'll be fine though, a bit of a rub to the back of his head and he's back on his feet in no time
    • 4' Simeon Jackson making moves up front now for Gillingham but the ball in the final third goes astray and the Gills have yet to make it into the area
    • 2' Immediately they lob the ball upfield looking for Holt and it takes a quick-thinking Richards to avert the danger and scoop the ball away without a shot on goal
    • 1' Shrewsbury get the clash underway ...
    • 15:58 The national anthem has been sung and all the handshakes are completed ... so it's time for a team huddle before kick-off

  1. To Tracy S. I,m a West Ham supporter,20 years ago i travelled to Anfield to leave my scarf on the Kop with 3 other Londoners to pay our respects to the 96 who died. I've been back twice since then. The majority of true footie fans grieved with you. They will not be forgotten at Upton Park.

  11. What a brilliant advertisment for League two football (Proper Football), it is just a pity that there had to be a loser on the day as both sets of Players from both teams gave their absolute all for the cause. The passing, movement and overhaul Football skills from both sides was a joy to watch and played without an ounce of cheating, diving or feigning injury throughout the whole game which put's all these highly overrated, overpaid Big time Charlies plying their trade in the Premier League to shame.
I hope Millwall, Scunthorpe, Burnley & Sheffield were watching today's game as all four Clubs have a great deal to do as to live up to this match.
Well Done to Gillingham and the very best of Luck to Shrewsbury for next season.
