Sevilla beat bottom placed Sporting Gijon 2-1 at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan to send them fourth in La Liga, a point behind Real Madrid. More

90+3' Kanoute's deflected shot goes out for another corner and this is perfect for Sevilla. Sporting eventually break out though and one more chance as they win a free kick just ahead of the halfway line. It's chucked in, but there's an offside. It's all over and Sevilla perhaps just shaded it though Sporting made it a hard fought victory.
90+2' Sevilla are now happy to hold it in the corner. Rakitic is booked for time-wasting. He won't mind that though.- 90+1' Navas goes for goal from a very tight angle, but he had no other options. He gets the second best outcome as he wins a corner to wind down more time.

89' Botia on the turn after mass confusion in the area, but he hits a bouncing ball inches wide! Terrible Sevilla defending and that should have been the equaliser. Varas may have got a touch.- 88' Javi Varas comes off his line to rescue his team and hold on to a dangerous through ball. Sporting do have a dangerous freekick though...
- 87' Rakitic chucks the ball into the box. It's cleared. Trochowski picks the ball back up, drives across the area and slices a left footed effort wide.

- 60' Kanoute shows Caceres how to do it, playing a great ball down the line for Navas. His cross from near the corner flag is excellent, but the attacker can't quite get on the end of it.
- 59' Caceres plays a poor ball into Navas with the little Spaniard in acres of space down the right. Sporting now on the attack and a pretty poor effort from Castro as he shoots miles wide.
- 57' Sevilla 2-0 Sporting - The freekick comes in from Rakitic. Escude gets his head on it and it crashes into the bar, bounces off the turf and Caceres is there to nod in the loose ball.
- 56' Rakitic helps the ball on to Navas and Canella picks up a yellow card for nipping the ball away with his arm. Dangerous freekick for Sevilla...
- 55' Spahic with an unconvincing header, but he eventually clears up. An Arsenal target apparently; would definitely be an improvement on their current defenders.
