Kaka move would be madness

Wed Jan 14 12:12PM

I hope for Manchester City's sake that they do not sign Kaka. I think it would be damaging to the club and to the wider game.

I've got a lot of respect for Kaka, who is a wonderful player, but I'm afraid I would lose that respect if he accepted a move to City.

If you are Milan, it is hard to turn down £90 million for one player, but I simply can't imagine why Kaka would go through with it.

He is meant to be a religious man, a family man; somebody who is concerned with more than money and is not a mercenary. Surely common sense must tell him that you do not leave AC Milan for Manchester City.

Robinho joining City was crazy enough - this would take it to a whole new level and send out a terrible message that money rules everything in football.

When I signed for Manchester United I could have joined Tottenham, the club I supported as a boy. I would have been paid more money and been able to keep living close to home in Essex. Plus it was a glamorous team managed by Terry Venables.

But I wanted to play for the biggest and best-supported club in the country, where I thought I could achieve something - and I was lucky that I coincided with the start of United's success.

I didn't cheat myself by taking the easy way out, and Kaka would be cheating himself if he took the money and moved to a club that is desperate and volatile.

I can't imagine what Mark Hughes makes of all this. I know Sparky well and you can be sure that it is not his idea.

Mark was a talented player but it was his determination and work ethic that made him special - that was the ethos he took to Blackburn and that he is trying to introduce at City.

This is not the Mark Hughes way. He is being forced into it by people who are treating the club as a toy. It's about telling their mates they can get Kaka to play for their club.

There is a risk that after a while they will get bored and want to do something different. I sincerely hope they are serious about the club and want to make a long-term commitment.

City should concentrate on shoring up their defence - as they did with the signing of Wayne Bridge - and helping Richard Dunne and Micah Richards rediscover their form.

The pursuit of Kaka undermines all that and jeopardises the stability in the dressing-room. How would Stephen Ireland feel about it? He has come through the ranks and been far and away City's best player this season. But there is no way you could play him, Robinho and Kaka in the same team.

In any case, it wouldn't be the same Kaka we see playing for Milan and Brazil. It's like putting a Rolls Royce engine into a Honda Civic.

  1. This is so offensive. I have a Honda Civic Type R thankyou very much.

Man city is a working progress Robinho Yesterday, Kaka today, Ronaldo tomorrow. You need to start from somewhere. No team was created with all the big players. I am sure you are worried City will be the biggest and Better team in Manchester,Just sour grapes

  11. Parker, you moved to United because you saw them as a team with potential, they had just won the Cup Winners Cup after all. Maybe Kaka sees the same thing with Manchester City? Quite frankly, you come across as a massive hypocrite. Kaka still has his best years ahead of him, he is only 26. City are building for the future, good luck to them I say.

  14. I agree totally. i was literally just shouting about this move before reading this excellent opinion.

This move will damage the already fragile reputation of football. i have friends that are no longer interested in the sport because money has screwed it all up. All those Chelsea signings a few years back made me feel quesy, and now this move will confirm to me that football is damaged and needs repairing. Im not sure what the answer is, perhaps caps on wages and transfers?

Good times are good teams because they have great youth systems,a dn can develop players - it should never be about cash

  15. i think hughes is the wrong man for the job. with better players they are playing worse than they were last season. hughes has no idea how to manage top class players, look at the form of richards and elano this season. makes you wonder how he would fit kaka into his team, using a rigid defensive 442.

Why anyone would pay Paul Parker to say anything about football is beyond me. Climb back in to your box you bitter little rag.

  22. Yes City should be allowed to go buy who they want if they can. THey in a a way arent though. They wouldnt have wanted Robinho if Chelsea hadnt been after him. They wouldnt have got him if the circumstances werent as they were!

Chelsea also didnt go out and buy the biggest names on the planet. THey paid too much for the player they wanted but every new manager wants their own team so why is it ok for people to go on about how managers inherit a team yet moan when they buy the players to make it their own? Chelsea's big signings were carvalho, ferriera, drogba, cech and robben. None of whom were superstars at the time, just well thought about signings.

This is different from the Chelsea situation in many ways. I feel for people abusing city in a way as well though. How come if someone who is a bit less rich buys a club no one says they will get bored and move on? people with less money have more to lose by not moving on!

  24. 14, i agree. if kaka signed for city he'd be downgrading himself, no offence to city, but milan is one of the best clubs in the world with a lot of history, and it has made kaka into the player he is today. he has no allegiance to manchester city, and has said in the past that he would never play in england. it would be sad to see himself compromising his values in order to earn a few more million than he already does

  27. "But there is no way you could play him, Robinho and Kaka in the same team." I beg to differ. All 3 of them can play in an attacking mid-field, support striker or wide role. City unfortunately do not have a striker capable of performing the lone role; enter Roque Santa Cruz.
