Kaka move would be madness

Wed Jan 14 12:12PM

I hope for Manchester City's sake that they do not sign Kaka. I think it would be damaging to the club and to the wider game.

I've got a lot of respect for Kaka, who is a wonderful player, but I'm afraid I would lose that respect if he accepted a move to City.

If you are Milan, it is hard to turn down £90 million for one player, but I simply can't imagine why Kaka would go through with it.

He is meant to be a religious man, a family man; somebody who is concerned with more than money and is not a mercenary. Surely common sense must tell him that you do not leave AC Milan for Manchester City.

Robinho joining City was crazy enough - this would take it to a whole new level and send out a terrible message that money rules everything in football.

When I signed for Manchester United I could have joined Tottenham, the club I supported as a boy. I would have been paid more money and been able to keep living close to home in Essex. Plus it was a glamorous team managed by Terry Venables.

But I wanted to play for the biggest and best-supported club in the country, where I thought I could achieve something - and I was lucky that I coincided with the start of United's success.

I didn't cheat myself by taking the easy way out, and Kaka would be cheating himself if he took the money and moved to a club that is desperate and volatile.

I can't imagine what Mark Hughes makes of all this. I know Sparky well and you can be sure that it is not his idea.

Mark was a talented player but it was his determination and work ethic that made him special - that was the ethos he took to Blackburn and that he is trying to introduce at City.

This is not the Mark Hughes way. He is being forced into it by people who are treating the club as a toy. It's about telling their mates they can get Kaka to play for their club.

There is a risk that after a while they will get bored and want to do something different. I sincerely hope they are serious about the club and want to make a long-term commitment.

City should concentrate on shoring up their defence - as they did with the signing of Wayne Bridge - and helping Richard Dunne and Micah Richards rediscover their form.

The pursuit of Kaka undermines all that and jeopardises the stability in the dressing-room. How would Stephen Ireland feel about it? He has come through the ranks and been far and away City's best player this season. But there is no way you could play him, Robinho and Kaka in the same team.

In any case, it wouldn't be the same Kaka we see playing for Milan and Brazil. It's like putting a Rolls Royce engine into a Honda Civic.

Enough said really, you were a mediorce player at best and your an even worst journalist, with a twisted sense of morals. Your a biased fool. City cant pay 90m for one player as this is fundimentaly wrong blah blah, but its ok for manure to spend 40-50m every season? And please take your picture of your article you arrogent @#$%, or go write for the sun.

  7. I hate to see all the people raving about the opinion of the article, who haven't bothered to read the entire thing. It would be terrible if Kaka moved to City, because, as it mentions, it wouldn't be Mark Hughes' idea. If Kaka played poorly when he arrived, would Hughes be able to bench him, or would he be forced to play him, to satisfy his bosses? Also, what player is going to give his best for his club if he knows he will be replaced on a whim, because he isn't a marketable superstar?
It's moot anyway, because what makes Kaka great is his loyalty and determination, and those will keep this move from happening.

  8. Nowadays, football is about money. Honestly, it is ridiculous amount for Kaka. Paul Parker's article got some truth to it but let's face it, these days money rules over ambition so Paul and we're talking big millions here. I'm an AC Milan fan and it's sad to think about the prospect of losing our best player who still has got years ahead him but this is a good deal for us cos the last time i checked, we still have debts to pay even with a billionnaire owner.

  12. Chelsea didnt win the league for 50 years and then bought it. Man City have won nothing for 40 years and want to buy it. If they are not careful they will become as hated and disresepcted as a club as Chelsea are. The best model is David Moyes at Everton. No money but uses the little he has wisely and is still successful. This should be how everyone has to manage.

  19. Ok guys in Paul's defense... I think he is right on the fact that Kaka is a family and religious guy lets not overlook that ... this as a person should hold him to his principles and make him different from the more money oriented players. Just like Berbertov did... Opt for a bigger and better club with history.... not just the money. These r the things that should make Kaka happy not necessarily earning a pay check from playing for a club he doesn't really believe in... Besides that would only make him play less like himself.. as we all know Belief is important in Football... the reason man U took a treble is Belief by a few young Lads... so come on cut Paul some slack.. Lets be fans with minds and not fanatics... Basta

  22. Not sure about all this vitriolic abuse of Paul Parker. It is surely a valid question to ask why a player of the stature of Kaka would sign for any team who will not be competing in the Champions League until Season 2010/11 at the earliest (and surely this is optimistic?). I expect he will be looking to be one of the top performers in the World Cup 2012 and between now and then will be wanting to play at the highest level possible. He doesn't need the money. I have nothing against Man City but why would he go there? I just can't see it !!!

  29. Paul, you need to take a step back. This may or may not be good for the game, and that can be debated. But to assert that somehow Stephen Ireland and Kaka cannot be on the same pitch? What exactly do you mean by that? Ireland's play has been clearly enhanced by Robinho's presence, and they work great together. Why would Ireland not be part of the mix? Explain...
