Kaka move would be madness

Wed Jan 14 12:12PM

I hope for Manchester City's sake that they do not sign Kaka. I think it would be damaging to the club and to the wider game.

I've got a lot of respect for Kaka, who is a wonderful player, but I'm afraid I would lose that respect if he accepted a move to City.

If you are Milan, it is hard to turn down £90 million for one player, but I simply can't imagine why Kaka would go through with it.

He is meant to be a religious man, a family man; somebody who is concerned with more than money and is not a mercenary. Surely common sense must tell him that you do not leave AC Milan for Manchester City.

Robinho joining City was crazy enough - this would take it to a whole new level and send out a terrible message that money rules everything in football.

When I signed for Manchester United I could have joined Tottenham, the club I supported as a boy. I would have been paid more money and been able to keep living close to home in Essex. Plus it was a glamorous team managed by Terry Venables.

But I wanted to play for the biggest and best-supported club in the country, where I thought I could achieve something - and I was lucky that I coincided with the start of United's success.

I didn't cheat myself by taking the easy way out, and Kaka would be cheating himself if he took the money and moved to a club that is desperate and volatile.

I can't imagine what Mark Hughes makes of all this. I know Sparky well and you can be sure that it is not his idea.

Mark was a talented player but it was his determination and work ethic that made him special - that was the ethos he took to Blackburn and that he is trying to introduce at City.

This is not the Mark Hughes way. He is being forced into it by people who are treating the club as a toy. It's about telling their mates they can get Kaka to play for their club.

There is a risk that after a while they will get bored and want to do something different. I sincerely hope they are serious about the club and want to make a long-term commitment.

City should concentrate on shoring up their defence - as they did with the signing of Wayne Bridge - and helping Richard Dunne and Micah Richards rediscover their form.

The pursuit of Kaka undermines all that and jeopardises the stability in the dressing-room. How would Stephen Ireland feel about it? He has come through the ranks and been far and away City's best player this season. But there is no way you could play him, Robinho and Kaka in the same team.

In any case, it wouldn't be the same Kaka we see playing for Milan and Brazil. It's like putting a Rolls Royce engine into a Honda Civic.

  1. i really hope kaka stays at milan. man city please dun ruin such a player! you need other better players first before you get kaka. its useless because they wont be able to play as a team as kaka is world class and other man city players are not!

  2. I've never seen such complete and utter $%))%"$. Kaka is merely a piece of the puzzle at city and not the complete team. How could a such a talented player be damaging to the club? He's too big for city is what your implying. Ridiculous. We've got the money now its time to start getting some decent players into the mix. Next season, with some big signings, the story will be very different.

Paul Paul Paul do us all a favour and bugger off.......We know that you think that Manc U is the bees knees and that if Kaka was going to Old Trafford you would love it but do you really think that your stupid comment of "You would loose respect for him if he goes to City" Who the hell do you think you are you pompous idiot. Kaka would be like every other footballer and goe where he can be paid a lot and achive things and Chelski and Manc U have proved that you can buy success so why not City having a go. You were a uselss manager but have the gall to speak about whats good for a team and the game. Do us all a favour stop writing your @#$% and give us all a rest from your stupid opinions. Take up management again!

  6. Initially, I would agree with Paul about City not signing Kaka, (I think a few £10. mil. signings would be of more current benefit), but to be naive enough to think that money DOESNT rule football is a bit hypercritical.
It is the likes of United and other big money clubs going plc and marketing 6 shirts a year who have been instrumental in taking "sport" out of football.
Unfortunately the game is now a business and mega money is needed to break into the upper echelons.

  10. Being a great team is no exclusive preserve of any teams. The monopoly of the top 4 makes the whole thing boring. So city, go ahead and buy whoever you want to buy. Let's see something different.

  12. Kaka is extremely religous and turned down a pay rise from Milan 18 months ago, stating he was wealthy enough, while signing his new contract. Does Parker actualy know anythng ?? Milan are just being polite to City, nothing more. Can't beleive anyone is believing this. He is not tranferable, doesn't that say it all ?? He has also just become an Italian national and a father to a son with his Milanese wife. IDIOT.

He was a @#$% little player that no one really cares about unlike the cantona's, schmeichels, Giggs, Pallister etc could go one and on....Parker you should concentrate on keeping your mouth shut instead of blabbing about stuff that does not concern you. You have always been a nobody. This is from a big big Man U fan...were going to win the league and champions league again this year.

  15. I disagree with this article. I believe City deserve a chance to become a good team, they have the capability to do so and money is not a problem. It is a shame that people think that Manchester City are all about money and signing big names........well they are, but so were Chelsea 6 or 7 years ago. Why are they not saying a thing? The reason top teams can sign big name players without a problem is because they have already spent their money and it paid off..........LET MAN. CITY BUY, BUY BUY!!! Don't you think the league will be more interesting????

  16. How can big money moves damage the reputation of football..... thats nothing but bs. Becks did it here in the u.s and all it did was help the sport. listen! you all who for some reason feel they have to be proud because they aren't the ones in a situation like kaka's, where, if someone or team is willing to pay 90 mill (pounds!!!) for your services, that only means to me football is huge and a major part of life and that peeeoooooppplllleeee loveee it. how bout that? what football reputation is being tarted and destroid its a load of bs. if this transfer happens lord know i will be tingling in my viens with excitment. If money dosen't help football what does. without money would i tune in to see the gunners or a premier league team if they were only english players grown from backyards because money isn't invovled and no one is getting paid in quids!!! no one would play people i would have nothing to look forward to do saturday mornings. If little teams like city can pull big name players like kaka i beleive it would only test his abilities cause no other valuable players will surround him and in that position we can see what he's really worth. i actually find this exciting.

  22. Lets face it, kaka wants to play in Champions League, and it will be another season and a half (at least) before he gets to do that Man City. City have a tough run coming up, Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal all away and Villa in the middle of that. City aren't exactly where Hughes and City fans want or expect them to be, and there is a real chance of them not even being in the Top flight next season. It would make no sense for him but they need him, he would make the Honda at least sound like a Rolls

it could be the same situation Robinho got into with Real trying to get a rid of him even he was close to be the best player in the whole team. Robinho made the right choice then and he is doing justice to his talents and qualities even with a challenged team.
By the way Chelsea started the same way and now look at it...Chelsea is one of the europe's giants..
