Kaka move would be madness

Wed Jan 14 12:12PM

I hope for Manchester City's sake that they do not sign Kaka. I think it would be damaging to the club and to the wider game.

I've got a lot of respect for Kaka, who is a wonderful player, but I'm afraid I would lose that respect if he accepted a move to City.

If you are Milan, it is hard to turn down £90 million for one player, but I simply can't imagine why Kaka would go through with it.

He is meant to be a religious man, a family man; somebody who is concerned with more than money and is not a mercenary. Surely common sense must tell him that you do not leave AC Milan for Manchester City.

Robinho joining City was crazy enough - this would take it to a whole new level and send out a terrible message that money rules everything in football.

When I signed for Manchester United I could have joined Tottenham, the club I supported as a boy. I would have been paid more money and been able to keep living close to home in Essex. Plus it was a glamorous team managed by Terry Venables.

But I wanted to play for the biggest and best-supported club in the country, where I thought I could achieve something - and I was lucky that I coincided with the start of United's success.

I didn't cheat myself by taking the easy way out, and Kaka would be cheating himself if he took the money and moved to a club that is desperate and volatile.

I can't imagine what Mark Hughes makes of all this. I know Sparky well and you can be sure that it is not his idea.

Mark was a talented player but it was his determination and work ethic that made him special - that was the ethos he took to Blackburn and that he is trying to introduce at City.

This is not the Mark Hughes way. He is being forced into it by people who are treating the club as a toy. It's about telling their mates they can get Kaka to play for their club.

There is a risk that after a while they will get bored and want to do something different. I sincerely hope they are serious about the club and want to make a long-term commitment.

City should concentrate on shoring up their defence - as they did with the signing of Wayne Bridge - and helping Richard Dunne and Micah Richards rediscover their form.

The pursuit of Kaka undermines all that and jeopardises the stability in the dressing-room. How would Stephen Ireland feel about it? He has come through the ranks and been far and away City's best player this season. But there is no way you could play him, Robinho and Kaka in the same team.

In any case, it wouldn't be the same Kaka we see playing for Milan and Brazil. It's like putting a Rolls Royce engine into a Honda Civic.

  1. I do have one question for all of those people who have commented saying Man City should be able to buy who they want and that the game now revolves around money...without having read all 123 comments (and I wont)...Has anyone not thought about what further damage this would do to England's hopes of their national team gaining any Silverware in the next 20 years? Stop with the exuberant spending on overseas players and perhaps spend that money on building up local talent so England may have a slight chance of getting anything any time soon!

  2. What baffles me is the way Paul thinks on this issue. I cannot see what is wrong with a club trying to build a formidable squad if they can afford it. The only thing that is constant in this world is change. He does not see anything wrong with Manchester United's decimation of the other weaker or poorer teams because they got the financial clout. ManU have been able to achieve this much because they could afford the best players around. Now that their city rival is set to eclipse their squad in quality he is whining. Moreso, what is wrong with choice. Everybody is at liberty to choose what he wants. Robinho was criticised for leaving RM for money, but everybody can see that he is definitely enjoying his football much more now than ever at ManCity. Check his return of goals per match. He was never allowed to do this much while he was at RM as he was restricted both in appearance and also on the field.

  4. Why everybody not agree with that reality? Because the buyer was City? Not Real Madrid/Barca/ManU? I think if you have money, then its not wrong u want to buy something expensive.. Its up to the club who are owned Kaka & depend to Kaka to make a decision.. Its not wrong at all, The club didn't steal it, but pay it to the Milan.. Yeah if u can get Kaka with 1 million pound, so why not City would offer 1 million as well. Even I'm a ManUnited fan, but I'm agreed with City that want to be the best club in the World.. So thats make EPL more chalangers..

  8. You're such a hypocrite. "I could have joined Tottenham, the club I supported as a boy", but instead you joined Manchester United for the glory. Who knows how much success Manchester City is about to have? You're just as much of a sellout.

  10. Right let me start off saying how important it is for City fans to actually read into what Parker is saying!

He isn't being offensive merely criticising a believe and he would agree the same with C.Ronaldo, he wou;d want to keep the best and play to their advantages!
Chill lads you have a good team whho are underperoforming at the moment!

  12. Paul, I am surprised at the level of naivety a person of your experience has displayed. If I work for a restaurant and someone comes to buy out my contract and triple my salary. Or if FOX news offers you a sports anchor job, you're telling me that my future and business decision should be based on my attachment to the job? Kaka didn't join football to just play football. But more than what Kaka wants or doesn't is what is good for both clubs. Radical change is difficult to cope with but it isn't always bad. Milan gets money to rebuild and world football gets another world class team in Man City. Ask Cheslsea fans how they feel about Chelsea today after they headhunted every available talent the world over in building their team. And that was a few years ago. I can hardly believe the nonsensical arguments that are being layed down. The only winner is Kaka who didn't have to make any decision and risk a flop in England just like uhm, that other Milan player...Shevchenko. Why got to Man City and flop and be sold to some obscure team in 1 year when you can play out your career in Milan which is a team virtually built around Kaka. Why risk all those wages for potentially only 1 year of wages at Man City who could give him the boot if things don't work out.
