    • Newcastle United
    • - Big Sam Allardyce may have one or two words for his underperforming side, but take nothing away from Derby - they deserved the victory. County midfield four Teale, Pearson, Oakley and Lewis sweated that one out for the fans. Well done to them.
    • 90+5' Derby taking the ball to the corner flag and there it is, the final whistle! Derby finally have their first three-point haul.
    • 90+4' Milner with the last ball of the match for Newcastle surely... Bywater is out to claim and the home fans cheer! The travelling supporters of Newcastle shake their heads.
    • 90+2' Newcastle cannot get close to the Derby goal and the whistles ring out around Pride Park...
    • 90' Four minutes of injury time - the home fans are not happy with that!
    • 88' Derby change: Scotland international defender James McEveley on for Lewis.
    • 87' N'Zogbia now shown a yellow card for a bad tackle on Mears.
    • 85' Oakley is booked for a foul on N'Zogbia as the fans' nails are bitten down still further...
    • 84' The minutes feel like seconds to these Derby fans, but the supporters from the north east will not be confident that their team is going to score.
    • 81' Teale sprinting down the right wing and Howard is at the back stick... the ball is fantastic and HOWARD... HEADS IT WIDE!!! That is conclusive proof - he is missing these on purpose for his beloved Magpies. Either that or he cannot hit a cow's bum with a string instrument. Let's give him some credit though: he was in the right place.
    • 80' Derby sub: American Benny Feilhaber on for his debut, while goal hero Miller leaves to a rapturous reception.
    • 76' Milner into the wall and for a corner. The kick is palmed away by Bywater, who is playing well in the home goal when it is demanded of him.
    • 75' Martins like lightning 25 yards out and is hauled down by Mears. Yellow card for the defender, chance for Newcastle...
    • 75' The last Toon change: Taylor off, Habib Beye on.
    • 75' Howard almost in behind after Pearson's ball on the counter-attack just runs away from him and to Harper! The away side were more than stretched there...
    • 74' Howard wins the header from the ball into the box but is offside.
    • 73' Pearson sent scurrying down the left away from Rozehnal and Butt flies across to clump him to the floor! What colour will the card be? Yellow - probably the correct decision. Just don't tell the Derby fans that.
    • 71' Newcastle are failing to get near Derby's defence at present. Derby have had the most possession in the match, but the visitors have had it all in the last few minutes. They are too deep.
    • 68' N'Zogbia hits another one from way out. It is a long way over the crossbar. Derby will field those all night long.
    • 66' The tension is palpable inside the ground (that old chestnut) as Derby can feel those three points coming closer, though they cannot yet touch them. The Magpies are poor so far but should not be written off under Big Sam.
    • 63' Butt asleep in the middle of the park, allowing Derby to win back the ball. Eventually it comes to Griffin via Lewis, whose shot is deflected just wide. However the ref deems Cacapa to not have touched the ball. The Derby players are not best pleased.
    • 62' The ball drops to Newcastle centre-half Taylor 15 yards out on the right and he smacks it well but over the top! Hard lines for the youngster.
    • 61' Another Toon substitution: Abdoulaye Faye for Geremi. Smith is handed the captain's armband.
    • 58' Miller fighting to keep the ball in play as Cacapa seeks to shield it out of play... both go down and the ball comes off the Brazilian for a corner kick, much to the pleasure of the home fans.
    • 56' Newcastle change: here is Martins, on for Owen who must be a bit knackered after his exertions at Wembley.
    • 53' N'Zogbia strikes from distance but the ball is wide of the mark. He caught it well enough.
    • 52' Derby with a set-piece on the corner of the penalty area. Oakley clips it in but it is a little high. There is a shout for handball when the ball comes back into the box from Leacock, but the man in black turns them down. Cacapa an innocent man.
    • 50' Pearson with the ball at his feet on the touchline, enticing Smith who dives in and earns that yellow card he dodged in the first half. When will he learn? At least he doesn't have to pay a ten quid fine like I do when I mouth off at the ref.
    • 48' Lewis whips in a corner kick and Howard heads wide of goal. That was unlucky, or well played if he meant to miss (Geordie born and bred.)
    • 47' This could be the boost that the midlands club badly need, and Miller the player to provide that threat which has been absent. Kenwyne Jones sparked Sunderland yesterday in a similar fashion.
    • 46' The second half underway, Derby now kicking from right to left as we look at it.
    • - No changes at the break. Viduka is not risked on the bench for Newcastle, but the jet-heeled Obafemi Martins is lurking somewhere with his bootbag...
    • 45+1' Half time in Derby. Big Sam might give his players a bit of a telling off as Newcastle do not deserve anything out of this as yet, but Derby have worked for it. The night belongs to former Celtic man Kenny Miller at present - but will it stay that way?
    • 45' One minute of injury time to play.
    • 44' County boss Billy Davies up and down on the touchline, remonstrating with the fourth official about something or other... isn't he happy? These Scottish managers never seem satisfied...
    • 42' Ameobi on the shoulder of the last man, into the box and shoots... a foot wide of the near post! That was a golden chance to hit back immediately for the former England Under-21 forward, who also holds Nigerian nationality. He is looking for sharpness following his long-term lay-off with a hip injury.
    • 39' During the corner kick beforehand, Rozehnal had a decent shout for a penalty as Leacock had his arms wrapped around him. Bad news for Newcastle fans.
    • 39' Sorry for the abruptness of that message, but no sooner had Newcastle put the ball behind for a goal kick, but the ball seemed to be in the back of the net. Bywater took a long goal kick and no one attacked the ball. Miller got it under semi control before lashing a dipping shot into the top corner to set the home fans screaming in delight.
    • 38' GOAL FOR DERBY!!! DEBUT BOY MILLER WITH A SCREAMER!!!
    • 37' Milner leaves it for Geremi, who hits one towards the top corner... Bywater is across to tip it away for a corner! A great effort.
    • 36' Smith on the left, having swapped wings with Milner... he wins the ball well and looks for a one-two. A blatant foul gives Newcastle a good position for a free-kick. Well played by Smithy...
    • 34' Toon camped in Derby's half now. Milner puts in another cross but Bywater is equal to it. You would think that a draw is a good result for Derby, but the longer they wait for a win, the harder it is going to be for them this season...
    • 31' N'Zogbia slips during a routine clearance and debutant Miller is there quickly to nick the ball and win a free-kick. Unfortunately for Derby, they cannot deliver it and the deadlock continues.
    • 30' Milner with some joy on the left, hooking those right-footed inswingers into the danger area. Leacock across to defend the first while the second goes straight out, but Ameobi fouls anyway.
    • 27' Pearson streaking forward down the middle, with Lewis to his left... Cacapa take the ball off his toe and passes it off, masterful defending from the former Lyon captain. He won six Ligue 1 titles, don't you know.
    • 25' Howard and Miller battling away up front for Derby, but Teale is eventually penalised for a foul on N'Zogbia.
    • 23' The home fans are unhappy with the number of fouls going against their players and give Peter Walton some grief. Again Newcastle waste the set-piece, Ameobi straying offside.
    • 21' Derby are bottom of the Premier League table with a solitary point to their name from five matches, while Newcastle are ninth and have only played four. They will move into the top five with three points here.
    • 19' At the other end Lewis glances a header at Harper's goal after good work by Pearson, but the goalie stands steady and claims it. Suddenly we have a game on our hands.
    • 18' Owen on the end of a ball forward and skips past Bywater... he checks back from the touchline and hooks the ball across... Rozehnal arrives and there is no 'keeper but he PUTS IT WIDE!!! Obviously a defender's finish there.
    • 16' N'Zogbia wastes a corner kick. How can a professional footballer not beat the man on the near post? Derby promptly counter and Teale puts one in for them... cleared by Newcastle.
    • 14' Newcastle's Smith, playing in midfield, in from behind on Lewis. He is lucky not to be booked. He should cut that sort of stuff out of his game.
    • 13' England boss Steve McClaren watching in the stands. Hasn't he seen enough of Owen? Maybe it's Pele's mate Nicky Butt he's got an eye on...
    • 11' Geremi wastes a free-kick but Newcastle keep up the sudden pressure on the Derby goal. N'Zogbia lets fly: high, wide and not handsome in the slightest.
    • 10' Oakley, the goal hero of Billy Davies' side, looking for options and finds Mears. He has plenty of space on the edge of the box and will have a pop... straight at Harper, who blocks then grabs hold of the second ball. The field opened up for Mears there.
    • 9' Lewis and Pearson on the left wing, working it for Derby... that is slack work from Pearson as he fails to keep the ball in. He lost concentration.
    • 6' Derby knocking the ball around usefully in the early stages. No Obafemi Martins or Mark Viduka up front tonight for the Magpies - Shola Ameobi and Michael Owen will have to do. Owen fresh from three goals in two matches for England, of course.
    • 4' What is all this stuff about boyhood dreams to play against your hometown club? Surely it is a nightmare to try and - God forbid - score against the club you shout on. I'd refuse to play against Barnsley, were I to be snapped up by a Championship outfit... I've not given up hope yet. Pre-season is going well.
    • 3' Sam Allardyce's side now on the prowl, with Milner unlucky not to get a cross in. They are in all light blue tonight, with the home team in white, black and white.
    • 2' Teale puts it in for County and striker Howard is up, but his header will not trouble Harper in the Toon goal. Howard is a lifelong Newcastle fan, I am told.
    • 1' Derby straight onto the attack. Howard looks to strike at goal and the shot is deflected for a corner kick...
    • 1' Off we go then at Pride Park, where the fans are in good voice. They were quiet the last time I was up there, but seem happy enough tonight.
    • - The teams are out on the pitch and warming up ahead of the kick off. A rare Monday evening game then for the Premier League this season. Derby will be desperate for a home win.
