    • 90'+3 That's it - all over... a great win for Chelsea. Thanks for joining us, and stay with the site for all the action from the rest of the day's matches.
    • 90'+2 In all the excitement Drogba is off and Belletti on - but there's still two more minutes of play for Villa to equalise.
    • 90' Stunning run from Deco up the left ends in a cross for Ballack, whose thundering shot looks to have sealed it - but a massively impressive save from Friedel keeps it out.
    • 90' Terry bodychecks Agbonlahor to earn a yellow - and from the free kick the fouled player gets the ball, but with his back to goal and he can't get a shot off!
    • 88' Corner for Chelsea, but though Terry gets his head to it the attempt is weak and wide.
    • 85' Chelsea see both Ballack and Bosginwa booked for timewasting in the space of 60 seconds.
    • 83' Great chance for Chelsea as Drgoba and Bosingwa combine in a one-two, but the right-back shoots straight at the keeper when scoring seemed easier.
    • 82' On the break Drogba has a chance in the six-yard box, but can't turn and shoot accurately enough and the ball goes wide.
    • 81' Deco makes some space with a nice run, but shoots miles wide on the left.
    • 80' Carew gets to the ball.... but his header doesn't connect properly, and the ball goes weakly off the pitch.
    • 79' Barry takes a free kick in after a Mikel foul, but it's saved. From the clearance Mikel fouls again, and this time Villa come up and force a corner!
    • 77' Villa's Energiser bunnies keep on running, and the Chelsea defence seem to be tiring just a little. The home side attack through Young on the left, then Agbonlahor on the right... but still they find now way through.
    • 75' Villa hit back with good pass-and-move football, and Barry ends up with a chance to score. He strikes the ball well but it's straight at Cech.
    • 72' A nice passage of play for Chelsea, as Drogba and Anelka continue their good teamwork today. The visitors just seem to be getting back in to the dominant pattern they enjoyed in the first half.
    • 70' Gutsy change from O'Neill, who brings on Jon Carew for centre-back Davies. They desperately want this equaliser!
    • 68' GARETH BARRY SHOOTS!!! Great shot, but Cech saves brilliantly and the follow-up brings another miss. That was a terrific left-foot effort from the Villa midfielder.
    • 65' Chelsea try to slow things down again - it's all getting tense now as time begins to run out for the home side...
    • 63' Chelsea make a move with Deco starting things off, the ball being cleared as far as Lampard - whose long shot earns a corner. It comes to nothing.
    • 62' Slightly shocked by the turnaround in the pattern of the game, Chelsea's black-clad players try to get back in to things by hanging on to the ball a bit more. Yet it's not long before Villa win it back. They're hungry for this now.
    • 60' More nice work from Villa as Young penetrates the left wing again and again, and the buouyant midfield keep plugging away.
    • 58' Alex puts in a kick so high you'd think he was auditioning at the Moulin Rouge rather than playing football - Agbonlahor pulls out of the way just in time to avoid having his nose removed.
    • 55' As Villa start to look more dangerous, Deco comes on for Kalou - Hiddink's first change of the match.
    • 54' A flurry of chances for Villa starts with Agbonlahor making a great run from the left and forcing a brilliant save from Friedel. And from the Corner Milner has a free volley from the far edge of the box, but it's deflected over.
    • 52' Cuellar booked for a ridiculous challenge.
    • 51' Villa come back up the other end and get a few crosses in without making any clear chances, only for Chelsea to come back on the counter. Villa's defence cut out the danger, and they charge back up the pitch.
    • 49' Chelsea begin an attack and run up the pitch to force a couple of corners. John Terry hits a great header from the second of them - AND IT'S HEADED OFF THE LINE!!!! Petrov was the man who saved the Villa bacon.
    • 48' Agbonlahor breaks down the left with great pace, but his cross goes straight out of play.
    • 47' A cagey opening to the second half makes you half-suspect that the managers have told their players to close all the opennes that made the first half so entertaining.
    • 46' We're back in action at Villa Park, and with both sides looing effective - albeit in very different ways - there's no half-time changes to report.
    • 45'+1 Last move of the half comes as Bosingwa crosses in to force a corner as Knight clears from Ballack. But just as Lampard's about to hit the ball, the ref blows for half-time! It's been great entertainment so far... and the second half promises more of the same.
    • 45' We're approaching the end of what's been a breathless and exciting half of football, with one extra minute to play. Chelsea have been well worth their lead - they've been outstanding on the ball - but Villa could easily have pinched an equaliser.
    • 43' Chelsea hold on to the ball for a few moments in midfield, slowing the pace of the game down a bit to try to take away some of Villa's fast-building momentum.
    • 42' Another great ball from the irrepresible Young comes within inches of finding the diving head of James Milner just outside the six-yard box. That had goal written all over it if he'd been closer...
    • 41' In among the drama, Heskey has managed to fall on one of the lines at some point: his chin is smeared with whitewash making him look like an 80-year-old man with a greying goatee beard. Great look Emile!
    • 40' Agbonlahor breaks through the middle and releases Ashley Young on the left, winning a throw - Young crosses, but there's no-one in the box to meet it.
    • 38' GREAT CHANCE FOR VILLA! Ashley Young puts in a great ball from the left, but neither Heskey nor Agbonlahor can quite get on the end of it. There's a suggestion of a foul by Agbonlahor on John Terry in any case, but Villa are showing that they've every chance of getting back in this.
    • 37' Chelsea force another corner on the right... Lampard takes but it's well cleared, and Bosingwa's run-in and follow-up shot is roughly 87 yards too high and 46 yards too far right.
    • 36' That near-miss has pepped the home side right up, and they keep attacking in waves now. The Blues' back four keep on cutting out the trouble and channelling the ball back up the pitch, though - this match is wide open, it's great stuff.
    • 33' Heskey backs in to Bosingwa and inexplicably earns a free kick right outside the box. It's a terrible decision from the ref... but Ashley Young makes a brilliant job of it, rattling the crossbar with a stunning, dipping shot that totally wrong-footed Cech.
    • 32' Cross comes in from the right - and it's Terry with the header...!!! Ooh, great diving save from Friedel, it looked like JT had notched one up there.
    • 31' Chelsea are still hanging on to the ball well, and look incredibly dangerous: Mikel now dribbles in from the right and almost completes a one-two that woudl have seen him score.
    • 28' Great run in from Drogba on the left, who beats one defender and makes it to the six-yard box - only to have a crack straight at Friedel frmo point-blank range. Yet Lampard was unmarked by the penalty spot!
    • 26' Chelsea are way above Villa in technique, but the Midlands team keep on fighting back. Agbonlahor gets on to a ball in the area, and they start to build a nice attack - until Terry clears the decks.
    • 23' Mikel slides with a big tackle giving a free kick to Villa from the right touchline. The cross flies and is bounced down to Petrov, who slices his shot appallingly into the eighth row. An effort that bad would have raised a derisory cry on any playground in the country, let alone Villa Park.
    • 21' Villa come straight back up the pitch and get a good cross in, forcing a punch clear from Cech.
    • 19' GOOOALLLLL!!!! A stunning mid-run jink from Lampard sees him leave his Villa counterparts for dead and gives him time and space to release a perfect through-pass for Anelka. And the Frenchman makes no mistake, chipping over Friedel!! Great goal for Chelsea and what a start for their new Dutch coach!
    • 18' First decent chance for Villa, a great ground-hugging ball in by Milner is perfect for Agbonlahor as he flies in to the area... but Alex slides in to clear the danger.
    • 17' Chelsea continue to dominate possession, and have so far limited Villa's breaks to occasional forays on the counter. Agbonlahor tries to get a one-two going with Young but they misread each other.
    • 15' Lampard has a pop at a free kick from 30 yards on the left-half, but hits the wall.. Not a great effort.
    • 14' Hiddink's looking inscrutable at the moment, gesticulating wildly to his coaching staff like a tramp at a bus stop expounding on his theories of life.
    • 12' Anelka gets hold of the ball down towards the left corner and flips a dangerous cross back in towards the edge of the area - but it's behind the waiting Drogba and Kalou, and nobody else is about to follow up.
    • 11' Brief injury pause for Heskey to be seen to: he caught an accidental arm in the face from Agbonlahor.
    • 9' Corner to Chelsea taken by Lampard, and Drogba charges in with a shot that's blocked by the legs of Knight half-way to the goal - Chelsea take the ball back and Lampard tries a long-range effort that floats high over.
    • 7' Chelsea settle in to the match and are passing effectively, looking for routes through. But that solid Villa defence - which hasn't haven't conceded in nearly six hours of football - is holding very firm.
    • 5' Free kick for Chelsea from the right taken by Alex, and it earns a corner - Lampard steps up to take, but the ball is cleared.
    • 3' Lampard picks out Drogba coming through on the right but the temperamental striker fires at the keeper - and Villa race back up on the counter attack, with Agbonlahor almost forcing a chance in the box.
    • 3' The pitch looks glorious, the sun is shining and it's warm and dry in the Midlands. Perfect conditions for football, and it's Villa who've got the best of the opening exchanges.
    • 1' We're in action here at Villa Park, and from the spring in the players' steps you can feel the excitement already.
    • - O'Neill and Hiddink shake hands, the players are on the pitch, and we're about to kick off!
    • - As they did in the FA Cup match against Watford last week, Chelsea will start with both Anelka and Drogba on the pitch. Villa, meanwhile, start with Heskey and Cuellar, both of whom we'd expected to miss out with injury.
    • - Chelsea: Cech, Bosingwa, Alex, Terry, Ferreira, Mikel, Ballack, Lampard, Kalou, Anelka, Drogba. Subs: Hilario, Ivanovic, Quaresma, Deco, Belletti, Mancienne, Stoch
    • - Teams are in now - Aston Villa: Friedel, Cuellar, Davies, Knight, Luke Young, Milner, Petrov, Barry, Ashley Young, Heskey, Agbonlahor. Subs: Guzan, Sidwell, Carew, Delfouneso, Salifou, Shorey, Gardner
    • - Most neutral eyes today will be on the away team, though, as it Guus Hiddink's first match in charge of the Blues. Can Chelsea's fourth manager in two seasons give them the consistent form that their club's owner seems to crave?
    • - For the home side, it's a fantastic opportunity to consolidate their third place in the Premier League: Martin O'Neill's men will go five points clear of Chelsea with a win.
    • - Hello and welcome to our LIVE coverage of today's big game in the Premier League. Kick-off is just over half an hour away, at 12.45pm UK time.
