    • 90'+2 AND THAT'S IT!!!! All over at Anfield, and a cracking win for Liverpool in the end - with a 2-0 scoreline that ended up flattering the visitors, if anything. Rafa Benitez has earned himself half a shandy tonight, that's for sure... Thanks for joining us, and we'll see you next time.
    • 90'+1 Free kick right on the edge of the box, and Riera hits it well but just curls it too much, and Fulop fists it away.
    • 89' Great run up the right by Babel, and he cuts in, beats two men and hits a shot that is well-placed, but lacking in power. Still, it draws a good save from Fulop.
    • 87' Liverpool retain the ball from teh corner, and Lucas ends up with a good headed chance - but Fulop is well-placed this time and catches well.
    • 86' The pressure still telling on Sunderland as a defensive mix-up between Fulop and Ben Haim leads to a corner.
    • 83' Sunderland make a rare break, but Edwards squanders the opportunity with a 30-yard blast when he had two team-mates charging up in support on either side. A waste.
    • 81' Another couple of changes, as Malbranque and Gerrard come off. Ryan Babel comes on for the Reds and heads up front.
    • 78' GREAT EFFORT BY GERRARD!!! A pass from Benayoun gives the skipper a chance at a long, curling shot from 25 yards. It's well struck, but just too high.
    • 76' Another change for Sunderland, with Jones - who looks knackered - coming off and Daryl Murphy strolling on.
    • 73' Sunderland try desperately to get back in to things, but Liverpool have an extra body in midfield as they've taken off N'Gog for Leiva. You feel now that only one team will score again tonight.
    • 70' Liverpool win a corner, and with the match in the bag - pretty much, at least - Benitez takes off goal hero N'Gog and brings on Lucas Leiva.
    • 69' The home side keep on pushing forwards - it could finish 6-0 if this carries on, and for all the excitement of Cisse and Jones playing together the Sunderland strikers haven't seen the ball for 15 minutes...
    • 67 AND IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN THREE!!! Riera, this time, with a brilliant strike that just goes high and right. It would have been just reward for his superb display so far...
    • 65' IT'S TWO FOR LIVERPOOL!!!! BENAYOUN IS THE MAN!!!! A great right-foot shot from Gerrard is too much for Fulop to hold on to, and N'Gog's reverse bicycle kick from the rebounding ball deflected off the keeper in to the path of the winger, who buries the ball in to the net!!!
    • 60' It's plenty of midfield back and forth at the moment... but neither side can make a chance as it goes. And predictably, Cisse comes on to the pitch!
    • 58' Stevie G tries to get in on the action now with a big right-foot shot that slams into the advertising hoardings.
    • 57' Insua charges up the left - and drills the ball across the goal!!! Was it a pass or a shot? Either way it was too far forward for the unmarked duo of Kuyt and N'Gog charging in, and goes off harmlessly.
    • 55' Lovely run from N'Gog in to the box - he looks like he'll shoot, but cuts back for a team-mate... only to look back and see that his mind reading skills have let him down, and the ball is cleared by Whitehead.
    • 54' A bustle of activity on the Sunderland bench, and it looks like Cisse will be joining the party any time now...
    • 52' GOAL!!!!!!!!!!!! LIVERPOOL HAVE BROKEN THE DEADLOCK!!! A great run by Riera up the left ends in a cross to Gerrard, who heads back towards N'Gog on the edge of the six-yard box - and the Frenchman cooly half-volleys home for his first goal in the Premier League!
    • 51' A nice Sunderland move sees Malbranque running in to the right edge of the box with a chance to cross for the waiting Jones, cut Carragher's tackle is perfectly-timed to stop the move.
    • 49' It's Sunderland's turn to push up now, and they've obviously had a talking-to from Ricky Sbragia beacuse they're keeping the ball much better so far in this half, passing to feet rather than smacking long balls.
    • 47' First chance of the second half, as N'Gog wins a corner and Benayoun's header zips speedily, but just wide of the right. Much better dead ball delivery from Gerrard there.
    • 46' We're back in action at Anfield, and no half-time subs to report.
    • 45'+1 Both sides go at each other for the last few minutes, but there's nothing doing... and then whistle goes for the end of the half. Liverpool had a great spell in the middle of the half where they were all over their visitors... but Kenwyne Jones earlier blew an incredible chance to put the Black Cats ahead. We'll be back at the start of the second half!
    • 43' Lovely counter-attack from Liverpool looks like it's caught the Black Cats napping - Mascherano picks up the ball and rifles a good-looking shot in that gets the crowd going, but it goes in to the side netting.
    • 41' Nice ball from Malbranque in to Kenwyne Jones, who seems to be through... but the striker is marginally - very marginally - offside.
    • 39' Another chance for the Reds, coming up the left and Kuyt almost getting a chance to unleash hell on the ball... but he gets closed down by a double-teaming from Ferdinand and Ben Haim.
    • 37' The corner is too long, but Richardson gets to it and pressurises Insua into giving up another.... nothing comes of it, but that's Sunderland's best go at their hosts for a while.
    • 37' Sunderland finally try and keep the ball instead of pumping long balls up pitch, and have won a corner!
    • 35' Having wasted a promising break, Gerrard then wastes another dead ball at the corner with another weak delivery.
    • 34' GERRARD MAKES RANGING RUN... AND HE'S IN TO THE BOX... and he's still in the box... and he's still running, and hasn't passed yet... and now he's been tackled. Ho hum. Not having his best day, the Liverpool skipper.
    • 32' The ball falls to Mascherano after the corner, and he hits the ball well but it rises up safely over the bar...
    • 31' Chance for Riera as he picks up pass from Kuyt... the winger cuts in, hits a right-foot shot - AND IT'S DEFLECTED - BUT FULOP ADJUSTS TO MAKE A GREAT SAVE!!! SO CLOSE TO A GOAL FOR LIVERPOOL!
    • 29' Kuyt and N'gog combine, through the centre with the Frenchman unleashing a left-foot shot as he enters the box. It's straight at the keeper, but N'Gog is looking big, strong and lively on his feet tonight.
    • 28' Riera bundled off the ball and it's Gerrard to take the free kick from 40 yards... he hits a ball in to the crowded box, but it's idiotically hard - again.
    • 27' The corner is wasted - hit far too long and straight off the pitch - but the crowd are singing now and it's all Liverpool. A goal feels as inevitable as rain on an August bank holiday...
    • 26' Mascherano and Benayound are an utterly dominant pairing on that right flank, building yet another good move in to space that cuts Sunderland open. Benayoun has a long pop, and the home side win the first corner of the match.
    • 24' Sunderland once again resort to long ball, and Richardson gets on to it only to be dispossessed - easily - by Skrtel. The visitors can't get a sniff of a chance at the moment - but they should still be 1-0 ahead if Jones hadn't perpetrated the fluff of the year so far.
    • 22' A ball in from Mascherano on the right finds Riera, who struggles to make room either for the pass or the shot. He eventually gets one away, but it's blocked and a goalmouth scramble ensues... But it comes to nothing as N'Gog is penalised for a foul.
    • 20' N'Gog out on the right beats Collins to get a cross in to the box, and it's met with a solid left-foot strike by Riera... only for Ferdinand to chuck himself in front of it at the last minute to block a good chance, and a good move.
    • 19' Sunderland have hardly touched the ball in the last 10 minutes, and as soon as they get it Andy Reid whallops a long ball up the left for Richardson to chase. Unsuccessfully.
    • 17' Mascherano comes up the right wing - he's overlapping a lot with Benayoun, as you might expect - but Collins defends the box well and forces the ball out off the Liverpool player.
    • 15' Good link-up play from Liverpool, with N'Gog getting the ball out to Benayoun on the right and the cross almost finding the boot of the sliding Kuyt. Not quite good enough, but the home side look good and are attacking well now.
    • 13' N'Gog picks up the ball from Alonso - and looks to be through... but the flag is up, the pass from Alonso was just moments too late to bear the offside trap.
    • 12' Sunderland pass and move quickly back up the pitch, but as the Reds' defence shuts them down Richardson cuts in from the right to have a pop. It's a good effort, but Reina moves across to take the ball with ease.
    • 11' Great chance for Dirk Kuyt - he picks up the ball from Mascherano on the edge of the box, moves right to create room and hits a good, low drive to the right that elicits a lovely save from Marton Fulop.
    • 10' Lovely run up the right by Yossi Benayoun, beating three players before cutting back inside and putting a nice little cross in... but N'Gog can't get anywhere near the ball to shoot.
    • 8' A chance falls for Liverpool with Riera getting on to a weak cross that's well saved by Fulop, and then Gerrard having a left-foot crack from 25 yards.
    • 6' Jones just can't believe that: he's still shaking his head in disbelief a couple of minutes later. That was as poor a finish as you could see in professional football.
    • 4' First half-chance of the match comes for Liverpool, with Mascherano organising a run and Benayoun being dispossessed in the six-yard box... BUT ON THE BREAK KENWYNE JONES IS THROUGH ON HIS OWN!! HE MUST SCORE - BUT NO!!!!!!!!!!! An appalling shot low and left is an easy save for an admittedly well-placed Reina. Unbelievable let-off for Liverpool...
    • 2' The home side hang on to the ball grimly at the start, while looking as if they're edging forward as much as they can. They're not going to sit back and wait for this game to come to them.
    • 1' Liverpool kick off, and here we go!
    • - The big surprise in the teams is that Mascherano is playing at right-back for the Reds: bold or bonkers? We'll soon see...
    • - It's all getting ready to kick off here at Anfield for what could be a cracking match. You can almost smell the desperation wafting around Rafa Benitez at the moment... but for as bad as it looks, the Premiership race is far from over.
    • - Sunderland: Fulop, Ben-Haim, Ferdinand, Collins, McCartney, Malbranque, Whitehead, Reid, Leadbitter, Richardson, Jones. Subs: Gordon, Bardsley, Edwards, Cisse, Murphy, Davenport, Healy.
    • - The teams are in: Liverpool: Reina, Mascherano, Skrtel, Carragher, Insua, Benayoun, Gerrard, Alonso, Riera, Kuyt, Ngog. Subs: Cavalieri, Dossena, Hyypia, Aurelio, Babel, Lucas, El Zhar.
    • - Welcome to our LIVE coverage of Liverpool's match against Sunderland at Anfield. The Reds are critically in need of a result to give them some much-needed confidence after their defeat by Middlesbrough... but Sunderland have only lost one league match so far in 2009.
