    • Manchester City
    • Middlesbrough
    • 90+3' The final whistle goes and Boro stay in the bottom three.
    • 90+2' City have got a corner, and will shield the ball there as they aim to run down the clock.
    • 89' King tries to chip a cross in and it hits the hand of Bridge... No penalty! again the right decision, it was ball-to-hand and Bridge had no time to move it.
    • 87' The ball runs loose for Caicedo on the edge of the box.. He missed out with his first touch and the eventual shot is saved comfortably by Jones.
    • 86' Bellamy fires a shot from an acute angle and Jones beats it away. Luckily for him the loose ball falls to a red shirt in the box and not a sky blue one.
    • 84' Robinho's rather lack lustre day's work is over as he's substituted for Felipe Caicedo.
    • 82' Bellamy passes to Ireland but the midfielder can't turn enough to get his shot at the near post on target.
    • 80' Gary O'Neil is the first player to go into the book for a nasty foul from behind on Wright-Phillips.
    • 79' Alves comes out to the right wing. He runs at Onuoha into the box and hits the deck... No penalty! Alves went down looking for that, and Andre Marriner won't be fooled.
    • 76' Wright-Phillips jogs along the back line and latches on to Ireland's pass. All done very well, except for the fact that SWP was never onside in the first place, and the flag goes up.
    • 73' Southgate makes a further push for the equaliser by replacing Johnson with Tuncay. Too little too late?
    • 70' Alves is through on goal and STRIKES... Wouldn't you know it, Given gets down to palm the solid low shot away!
    • 68' Riggott never made it back on to the pitch, and Justin Hoyte comes on to replace him.
    • 67' A sublime City move sees Wright-Phillips play Robinho through! The Brazilian is one-on-one with Jones but tries to go round him rather than shoot and Wheater is there to put him off.
    • 66' The ball goes from Bellamy to Bridge via de Jong and Bridge will STRIKE... The shot is way off target.
    • 65' Riggott is off the field receiving treatment following that tackle as the corner ends up in Jones's hands.
    • 64' Bellamy plays in Robinho and the brazilian is hounded by Chris Riggott and will have to settle for a corner. Riggott did well to resist sticking out a leg that Robinho could have tripped over for a penalty.
    • 62' Robinho has a go from outside the box but the shot rolls along the deck to Jones. The Brazilian is having one of his off days.
    • 61' Gareth Southgate makes an offensive change as he brings on Gary O'Neil for Didier Digard.
    • 59' Shaun Wright-Phillips chases a chipped ball down to the corner falg and keeps it in play well, forcing the corner from Pogatetz. City can't work a chance from the set-piece.
    • 57' Boro are being pegged back in their own half again following that goal. Robinho pulls off a few stepovers in the box but the ball runs into the hands of Jones.
    • 53' De Jong concedes a free-kick down by the corner flag. Downing's delivery deflects off the man at the near post and all it needs is a touch into the empty net. As it is, they have a corner, but the ball ends up in the arms of Given.
    • 52' GOAL!! What did I tell you? Craig Bellamy cuts inside and uses his pace to beat Pogatetz before firing across Jones into the far bottom corner! City take a deserved lead, just as boro were really getting into this game.
    • 51' Middlesbrough have certainly started the second half in brighter fashion than the first. City still look more likely to score though.
    • 49' Johnson feeds King out wide and it's a good ball across goal that Alves JUST fails to get to. Given had stayed on his line that time.
    • 48' Robinho sprays a crossfield pass to Wright-Phillips, who controls the looping ball excellently with his first touch, but then lets himself down with an underhit pass to Ireland.
    • 46 No changes for either side as the second half gets underway.
    • 45+1' Brad Jones blocks a Wright-Phillips shot from an acute angle at the near post, and that's the final act of the first-half. Boro have resisted City for 45 minutes, and could have been ahead were it not for Given.
    • 45' Pogatetz tackles Ireland on the wing to concede the throw. The Boro captain is a major reason why City are still goalless despite their first-half dominance.
    • 42' Alves wins a free-kick about 25 yards from goal. Downing steps up... and sends his shot into the stands.
    • 41' Digard plays Alves through on goal with a delightful ball and Alves hares towards goal and STRIKEs... Given blocks the shot with his boot! He's proving to be worth every penny already!
    • 40' City aren't done yet and Ireland flashes a ball across the face of goal, but nobody is there for the tap-in.
    • 39' From that save City come forward in numbers, and Ireland plays it out to Wright-Phillips who chips a ball back to IRELAND AT THE NEAR POST... The header hits the crossbar!
    • 38' Alves fires a strike off-balance... given gets a hand down low to block the effort.
    • 34' Robinho jinks from one foot to the other before firing a low strike that Jones tips round the post for another City corner.
    • 31' The corner isn't cleared and the loose ball falls to BELLAMY... The shot is turned round the post by Jones! Both keeper's have been called upon to make good saves now.
    • 30' Pogatetz has been immense so far for boro, and he gets across to block Wright-Phillips's effort at the near post for a corner.
    • 28' Johnson squares a ball into the City box for ALVES... EXCELLENT SAVE BY GIVEN!! Shay Given marks his arrival at City by beating away Alves's first-time shot with an outstretched hand when the Brazilian looked certain to score!
    • 25' Marlon king is caught offside. Shay Given takes the free-kick, which is the biggest test of his City career thus far.
    • 21' SWP bursts forward through the middle and SHOOTS FROM THE EDGE OF THE BOX... The shot is wide. He's claiming a corner, but the referee won't be conned.
    • 20' Ireland slips through a pass for Robinho, but Digard gets between him and the ball. How Boro have missed him.
    • 18' Johnson weaves his way past one City midfielder down the right wing and is unlucky to be called up for a foul on Bridge. Boro are struggling to get out of their half at the moment, although keeper Jones has not had much since that early run off his line to block Bellamy.
    • 17' City still very much on top in this one.
    • 15' Robinho cuts inside on to his left and eyes the shot... Pogatetz knocks the ball out of his path and the Brazilian swipes a shot at thin air.
    • 11' city have a corner, and Richards nods it down to Kompany, whose first touch sets up a shot on the turn... wide of the target. Nice try from Kompany.
    • 10' Wright-Phillips jets past Huth to meet a ball down the channel, but then the German gets his revenge by way of a sliding tackle that upends the winger! Just letting him know he's there...
    • 8' Boro win a corner, and David Wheater comes up for it. Downing's corner is on to the head of Wheater, but the big defender can't direct it goalwards and Bridge hacks it away.
    • 5' Ireland receives the ball in the box from Wright-Phillips, but his return backheel hits is cleared. City have monopolised possession in the opening five minutes.
    • 3' Ireland intercepts a sloppy pass in midfield by Digard and releases Bellamy. The Welshman has acres of space to run into and is one-on-one wit the keeper... Jones rushes off his line to block clear the danger on the edge of the box!
    • 1' Wright-Phillips bursts down the left right from the off and he squares a ball towards Bellamy, but Pogatetz is on hand to intercept and clear.
    • 1' City kick off and we are underway at Eastlands!
    • 12:45 We're just moments away from kick-off so don't go anywhere!
    • 12:37 For Boro, no-nonsense midfielder Didier Digard is back from suspension to boss the midfield, while the erratic Afonso Alves returns from injury to partner Marlon King up front.
    • 12:35 Rumours of Gianluigi Buffon coming to City proved wide of the mark, but the debut of goalkeeper Shay Given is genuine reason for Sky Blues fans to get excited. Fellow new arrivals Craig Bellamy and Nigel de Jong remain in the team, while Vincent Kompany moves to centre-back.

  12. hey lol even at start of season i fort man city would maybe come top 5.

I Think they have a decent manager but he's not a manager that can manage a top 5 club.

I Support Portsmouth so i can't really talk.

  17. Sell Robino and buy some players who want to play for MCFC instead just turning up. Well played Given: nice debut. I suppose a win is a win but a dead game. Come on Sparky, instill in them the desire to earn their over-inflated wages. Several players today could do with a credit crunch as the poor buggers who watch City are heading for a depression.
