    • Portsmouth
    • 90+4 That's it, game over. Incredible drama at the death.
    • 90+4 Oh dear. Alves could have won it for Boro - latching onto an Adam Johnson through ball, the Brazilian fires tamely at James.
    • 90+3 Incredible drama. A real goalmouth scramble and King follows up a saved McMahon header to grab the draw for Boro. GOOOAAALLLL.
    • 90' David James is first to a McMahon cross and punches clear before clattering into David Wheater. That could be the last chance!
    • 88' Boro have a corner but waste it by playing it short.
    • 85' James saves smartly from Downing, after a wonderful tackle on Alves from Distin.
    • 82' Crouch drags horribly wide. Portsmouth have been poor this half.
    • 78' That may have put paid to hopes of Boro salvaging anything from the game. Poor effort from Bates - especially considering his side were in the ascendancy.
    • 76' Matthew Bates, having been already booked, is shown a second yellow and a red, for diving. Steve Gibson, in the stands, does not look happy.
    • 73' The sleuth of substitutions, cards and free-kicks seems to have helped Portsmouth weather the storm.
    • 72' Johnson picks up a yellow for a poor challenge on Tuncay.
    • 70 A substitution for either side - Hughes for Nugent and Alves for Arca.
    • 69' King threatens around the edge of the Portsmouth box but James sweeps up.
    • 66' Crouch should have won it there. Huth misjudges a cross and Crouch has the goal gaping but the German recovers to block.
    • 64' Nugent is in the book for a late challenge on Huth.
    • 61' It's truly all Boro this half...Belhadj picks up a yellow card for petulance.
    • 60 Point blank save from David James - great reflexes. Adam Johnson delivers, but Tuncay's powerful header is straight at James.
    • 60' A very bizarre episode. First King and then Tuncay wildly miscue overhead kicks, before Taylor follows up with a well struck effort that is straight at James.
    • 58' Adam Johnson for Aliadiere.
    • 56' Tuncay heads over an Arca cross.
    • 53' Boro with some concerted pressure, but Pompey survive the aerial bombardment
    • 51' Wheater fouls Crouch thirty yards from the Boro goal. Kranjcar is over it, it's dipping but ultimately it's always over.
    • 48' Bates sees yellow for a late tackle on Kranjcar.
    • 46' Pogatetz is off for Taylor. The Boro captain had a torrid afternoon.
    • 46 We're back underway at the Riverside.
    • 45+3 That's it the travelling fans celebrate a well deserved half time lead.
    • 45' Three mins of added time.
    • 44' Distin's head deflects a decent Aliadiere effort wide for a corner, which is cleared only as far as Arca, but the South American's long ranger is again blocked.
    • 42' Another sight of goal for Crouch but his glancing header is too close to Jones.
    • 39' Marlon King makes a nuisance of himself in the box but Campbell heads clear.
    • 37' Boro are huffing and puffing, but, as of yet, have blown nothing down. They are having a real go but lack any form of imagination.
    • 36' Belhadj for an injured Pennant.
    • 33' Nugent flicks a header goal-wards, but it's comfortable for Jones.
    • 32' Kranjcar breaks and has a shot blocked. It's all Pompey.
    • 31' GOAL for Peter Crouch and what a poor one to concede! Kranjcar plays a short corner to Johnson who in turn feeds Crouch an awkward ball, whilst under pressure shaping well the England front-man volleyed tamely goal-wards. But somehow Brad Jones saw it late and inexplicitly allowed the ball to settle in the back of the net.
    • 30' Arca muscles Davis off the ball before firing high and wide.
    • 27' Poor free-kick from Downing after a Mullins' foul. Didn't even beat the first man.
    • 25' Three quick fire efforts for Boro. Downing has a long ranger deflected off Mullins for a corner that Pogatetz heads goal-wards but is blocked. And then from their second successive corner, Tuncay stoops in at the near post to head just wide.
    • 22' Having started the better but faded away Boro will have to regroup or their hopes of Premier League survival will soon fade.
    • 20' David Nugent has been highly impressive thus far and it is he who thunders a half volley against the foot of the post. Good interplay between the Pompey front two.
    • 19' Paul Hart prowls his technical area.
    • 17' Downing with a tame header from a McMahon cross. Downing has been prominent in everything Boro have done well.
    • 15' Peter Crouch what are you doing? Trying an overhead kick the gangly England man manages to completely miss the ball but not Robert Huth's face. Reasonable opportunity wasted.
    • 11' Glen Johnson does incredibly well to get a cross in when he looked destined to run the ball out of play. David Nugent has the resulting shot blocked. Half hearted calls for a penalty for a foul on Crouch from the corner which follows. Very feisty start to the game.
    • 8' We've had a spate of early free-kicks which is doing little for the flow of the game at a blustery Riverside, which, by the way, is only half full.
    • 5' Boro captain Pogatetz has an effort from distance but it's always rising. Boro on top.
    • 3' We've had a frenetic start to the game with either side exchanging half chances. First Marlon King breaks away down Boro's right but his cross is tame and then, Jermiane Pennant fires a free-kick to the far post for Glen Jonhson, but it's a little too high for the England man.
    • 15:00 Referee Martin Atkinson gets us underway at the Riverside.
    • 14:55 The teams are out: Boro: Jones, McMahon, Wheater, Huth, Pogatetz, Aliadiere, Arca, Bates, Downing, Sanli, King. Subs: Turnbull, Taylor, Emmes, Alves, Shawky, Adam Johnson, Walker Portsmouth: James, Johnson, Campbell, Distin, Hreidarsson, Pennant, Davis, Mullins, Kranjcar, Crouch, Nugent. Subs: Begovic, Kaboul, Pamarot, Utaka, Hughes, Kanu, Belhadj.
    • 14:50 Boro, lying in 19th with one win in 16 league games face a Portsmouth side, a position above them who have won one in 12, which all adds up to a real relegation six pointer.

  1. The only saving grace is that other teams around us are playing just as bad. I just hope that we can take one or two of these games like yesterdays that are there for the taking in order to stay up because if I know Boro, they'll battle for an entire season's worth of championship games and go up but wont show the same commitment in the key games in the premiership.

From Bryan, on Sun 15 Mar 1:11PM
  2. Boro's display was a light year away from the Liverpool display a couple of weeks ago. This is why the Alves's miss late on is all the more galling. it just reaffirms why we are where we are, namely, we dont create enough chances during a game and even when we do we dont take them.

From Bryan, on Sun 15 Mar 1:09PM
  3. (having to put my tuppence worth in, in segments because of this nuisance yahoo 'invalid comment' @#$%)

  4. Pompey's goal came out of nothing really but it didn't spark anyone into life within the Boro team. Im a Boro fan who believes that even as bad as things are, we need to keep backing the team just like Southgate keeps saying.. BUT... Southgate's whinge about the fans singing 'we only have one player' is borne out of fans frustration that the team as a whole is simply not motivated enough. The fans can deal with the dissapointment of a defeat if the team goes down fighting. What we cannot put up with is the sight of a team going through the motions, looking busy, for 70 minutes waiting for someone to produce something.

From Bryan, on Sun 15 Mar 1:02PM
  5. Oh my god Alves! If ever you had a chance to redeem yourself with the Boro fans then it was that last minute chance!! That last 15 minutes of play involved endless balls over the top in the hope that it might fall at Alves/King's feet and when it eventually happened he fluffed it again! The game itself was turgid stuff really, you could see it was going to be after the first couple of minutes. For two teams supposedly battling for survival there was absolutely no urgency whatsoever.

From Bryan, on Sun 15 Mar 1:01PM
  6. Well done Martin Atkinson for giving Matthew Bates a second Yellow card for falling over, and therefore a Red card, when your colleague Phil Dowd doesn't even bother giving Morten Gamst Pedderson a Yellow card for a much more blatent DIVE. Let's see some consistency with Referees. Oh and by the way, don't forget that this Referee gave a West Brommich Albion player a Yellow card, a second and thus Red, for actually conceding a corner kick !

The sooner the game introduces video Referees, as in Rugby and cricket, the better.

From Jarvis, on Sun 15 Mar 8:29AM
  7. What a surprise, Boro equalising at the death. What's up with you Pompey? Why take off Nugent and invite Boro onto us?

  20. Pompey never seem to go for the killer second goal. They sit bake and let the opposition take control. That's just asking for trouble. I'll be surprised if we can 'hang on' for another 30 minutes. Play Up Pompey.
