    • 90 Full Time. Aston Villa hold on to their 1-0 lead to take all three points courtesy of Emile Heskey's goal. Thanks for joining me!
    • 90' Three minutes of added time for Portsmouth to find an equaliser.
    • 87' Utaka jinks past several men and finds his way into the penalty area only to lose his nerve as he encounters Brad Friedel and the Villa keeper is able to push the ball to safety. All he had to do was shoot!
    • 86' Milner goes into the referee's book as he thwarts Hreidarrson's progress too cynically for Peter Walton's liking.
    • 82' Heskey is withdrawn with Nicky Shorey taking his place.
    • 81' Aston Villa take the rare step of venutring into the Pompy half, winning a corner for their courage! The corner does not even make it as far as the six-yard box and goes behind for a goal-kick.
    • 79' Petrov slides in on Mullins and is booked for his mistimed challenge.
    • 77' Corner number 17 for Portsmouth. Headed clear by Cuellar. They haven't made full use of their set-piece opportunities tonight.
    • 76' Ten men Portsmouth keep the ball well. Glen Johnson puts in a dangerous cross which Davies is forced to head behind for another corner.
    • 74 Kanu is replaced by John Utaka.
    • 70' RED CARD.Is that justice! Belhadj is furious as he is penalised for a dubious handball on the touchline. He persists with arguing with first the linesman and then the referee and receives a second booking for dissent.
    • 68' Pennant whips in Pompy's 14th corner of the night. His inswinging delivery is met by Hreidarsson whose header drifts comfortably over the bar.
    • 66' David James comes and collects James Milner's cross for what might well be his first touch of the half. Portsmouth have had all the possession and all the chances in this second-half. Still one-nil Villa!
    • 65' Craig Gardner is replaced by Steve Sidwell as Villa look to ride this Portsmouth pressure.
    • 62' Another chance for Crouch. Another Belhadj corner is drifted towards the far post and Crouch heads wide under pressure from Friedel.
    • 61' Finally Portsmouth look dangerous from a corner-kick. Friedel has to back-peddle uncomfortably and can only push it behind for another corner...Pompy knocking on the door.
    • 58' PETER CROUCH SHOULD HAVE SCORED. First his volley is well blocked by Davies. But Pennant picks up the lose ball and squares to Crouch who is five yards out, but 'two metre Peter' cannot find the goal, even from close range!
    • 57' Kanu chests the ball back towards Belhadj whose shot drifts wide, but not that wide of the post. Friedel watches it go by as though it was a million miles wide- it didn't miss by much.
    • 54' For all Portsmouth's possesion they are still vulnerable defensively. Villa spring forward with great speed and efficiency and Agbonlahor tries to square the ball for Heskey but Distin is on hand to turn the ball behind for a corner.
    • 52' Portsmouth have looked far more dangerous already in the second-half. Pennant is seeing more of the ball and they are looking like getting back into this game. They win succesive corners but again fail to make them count.
    • 49' Glen Johnson is booked for a rather wreckless challenge on Petrov.
    • 49' Curtis Davies flicks the ball away from Peter Crouch, but only as far as Jermaine Pennant whose fierce shot is pummelled away by Friedel.
    • 48' Peter Walton 'ticks off' Hayden Mullins after he impedes Petrov, but no booking.
    • 46' A cross from the left finds its way to Pennant at the back post. The former Liverpool man may well have done better and he tamely volleys at Brad Friedel.
    • 46' The second-half kicks off. Portsmouth have made one change, Younes Kaboul will replace Sol Campbell and David James will assume the captain's armband.
    • 45' Half-time. Villa deserve their lead and after a scrappy start have had several chances to extend their lead.
    • 44' Belhadj, hang your head in shame. That was a cynical challenge if ever there was one. After he is dispossessed by Craig Gardner, Belhadj chases his man and in frustration the Algerian shamlessly trips young Garnder from behind. Yellow Card. Some referee's may have brandished a red there.
    • 41' Oh Gabby! That was a real chance! Agbonlahor races clear of the Portsmouth defence with only David James to beat. The Villa man seems intent on opening his body and hitting it across the giant keeper, but drags his shot past the near post.
    • 38' Trademark Heskey. He holds the ball up beautifully before laying the ball off to Milner in acres of space, but the young winger can only hit his shot into the shins of Distin and it goes behind for a corner.
    • 37' Portsmouth have another corner. Again they fail to find one of their numerous 'big men' and the ball is easily cleared.
    • 34' Belhadj shows his pace, driving infield from the right. He then shows the creative side to his game with a reverse-pass to Pennant, who squares the ball to MULLINS, but his volley shaves the bar.
    • 32' Cuellar nearly impales himself on the corner flag as he challenges Hreidarrason. If anything, that's been the difference between the sides so far, Villa have been prepared to go that extra mile in what has been an opening with limited chances.
    • 30' The ball drops nicely for Barry on the edge of the box, but his 25-yard volley drifts over the bar.
    • 28' Glen Johnson strides forward for the home side, but his promising shot is defelcted wide for another Pompy corner. Another Pompy corner which comes to nothing.
    • 26' Craig Gardner picks up the ball and runs at Hreidarsson who fouls him. The resulting free-kick falls to Curtis Davies who tries an audacious overhead kick which ends up with the fans!
    • 24' Peter Crouch with a pot-shot from the edge of the area. Safely held by Brad Friedel.
    • 21' A goal out of nowhere! And it is EMILE HESKEY on debut. Agbonlahor does well to win the header which Heskey powers onto and lashes a volley past David James. Great finish!
    • 17' Good work by Kanu releases Pennant on the right. His cross is cleared only as far as Hayden Mullins who strikes a lovely left-footed drive, which courtesy of a deflection, evades Friedel's dive and the outside of the post. Close from the debutant.
    • 14' Portsmouth with a succession of corners on the left. Both are taken short and come to nothing! Not sure Sol Campbell is too happy with the short corners having run 70 yards to make his presence felt in the area.
    • 10' Crouch tries to control a ball on the edge of the Villa box but it strikes his hand and Villa have the free-kick. Cuellar quickly launches the ball towards Millner on the left, but Pennant tracks his man well and makes a good challenge.
    • 8' Agbonlahor drives forward at pace and Campbell deals with the loose ball by putting it behind for a corner. Gareth Barry swings the corner towards the near post, but it is easily cleared by Campbell.
    • 6' Zat Knight and Curtis Davies will have their work cut out dealing with the height of Portsmouth's front two; Crouch wins a flick on towards Kanu, but the Nigerian is not on the same wavelength and the ball goes through to Friedel.
    • 3' Gareth Barry is immediately into his stride, winning the ball in the midfield, driving forward and winning a free-kick.
    • 1' We're underway at Fratton Park.
    • - Some team news for you: Hayden Mullins makes his debut for Portsmouth, while Jermaine Pennant will be hoping to provide some decent service for Peter Crouch and Kanu who start up front for Tony Adams' side. Aston Villa are without the suspended Ashley Young, but are able to hand a debut to Emile Heskey who partners Gabriel Agbonlahor up front.
