    • - Thanks for joining us... make sure you don't miss Sunday's action... see you then!
    • 90'+4 And there goes the final whistle! All over at Fratton Park and we're set for a final-day thriller!
    • 91' Primus is introduced for Crouch...
    • 90' Four minutes of added time...
    • 88' GOAL! POMPEY SEAL ALL THREE POINTS! Utaka shows his strength before finding Traore... he takes a touch before firing into the far corner! 3-1 and Sunderland are beaten!
    • 87' JONES! Another chance goes begging! Cisse's cross finds the Trinidadian at the far post, but his header is straight at Begovic!
    • 86' CISSE! Oooh! So close from the substitute! He fires a volley inches wide of the far post!
    • 85' Here comes another switch for Sunderland... Murphy on for Leadbitter...
    • 80' Sunderland make another change now as Cisse comes on to replace Tainio...
    • 79' Oooh! Jones so close to drawing Sunderland level! But his volley is well saved by Begovic!
    • 74' Richardson now takes a pot shot on goal... but it's always rising and the ball sails into the massed ranks of Sunderland fans behind Begovic's goal.
    • 71' Leadbitter strikes at goal! Begovic is there to make a decent stop, low down to his left!
    • 69' What a turnaround! Sunderland are now facing an agonising final day of the season! Unless they can get back into this one...
    • 68' GOAL! POMPEY TAKE THE LEAD! It's Bardsley who slides the ball past his own keeper, but it's all about Ferdinand, whose error of judgement allows a long punt upfield slip under his boot... Utaka runs onto the ball, rounds the keeper and is just about to pull the trigger when Bardsley slides in, only to see the ball directed into the back of the net!
    • 65' There's some debate over the goal - the referee's whistle appeared to sound just before Utaka fired home... yet the goal was allowed to stand.
    • 62' Richardson fires wide at the other end!
    • 61' Utaka takes his shirt off in celebration and duly has his mood dampened by a yellow card...
    • 61' GOAL! POMPEY HIT BACK STRAIGHT AWAY! UTAKA! What a finish from the Nigerian as he takes full advantage of a lucky deflection which sees the ball come through to him... he holds off the challenge of Bardsley before firing low past Fulop to level things up!
    • 59' GOAL! INCREDIBLE! Completely against the run of play, Davenport steams forward down the Sunderland right... he delivers a beauty of a cross to Jones who stabs home at the far post!
    • 57' Pompey have been all over Sunderland at the start of the second half... the visitors have barely been out of their own half.
    • 55' Traore slides in with Collins and sees his deflected cross loop onto the top of Fulop's net! Corner!
    • 54' Worrying times for Sunderland after the break... and Sbragia reacts by bringing on Carlos Edwards for Malbranque. Actually, the Frenchman's injured and can't carry on...
    • 53' This is a good period of pressure from Pompey! Crouch heads back across the face of goal from the back post! But Ferdinand is there to head clear for Sunderland!
    • 52' Johnson fires goalwards! Touched behind for a corner by Leadbitter!
    • 50' This is neat approach play by Pompey... Crouch is eventually brought down by Collins and the hosts have a free-kick 25 yards out! Real danger for Sunderland now!
    • 49' It's taken short to Johnson... he skins Malbranque! But his pull back into the box is cleared by the visitors' defence!
    • 48' Davis muscles his way into the Sunderland box... and he wins a corner!
    • 47' Traore makes an immediate impact, crossing for Crouch! But his header is wayward and flies over the bar!
    • 46' Pompey have made two changes at the break... Kanu and Hughes have departed and Kaboul and Traore are on.
    • 46' Back underway at Fratton Park!
    • 45' And there goes the half-time whistle! Goalless at the break...
    • 43' That's given hope to the hoardes of travelling fans! But how crucial will that upright prove to be in the final reckoning?
    • 42' Oooh! Jones hits the post with a towering header from Malbranque's cross! The ball smacks the inside of the post and bounces back across the face of goal, but not in!
    • 40' Richardson breaks for Sunderland now... but his options up ahead are rather limited and in the end his pass looking for Jones is easily intercepted.
    • 39' The crowd are just getting a bit restless now as a particularly scrappy passage of play...
    • 38' PHOTO GALLERY FROM FRATTON PARK.
    • 35' "Let's all laugh at Shearer" is the latest offering from the Sunderland fans... although that ditty seems a little premature, given that as things stand, Sunderland are still not assured of safety.
    • 33' Lovely back heel from Jones tees up Richardson! But his effort sails way over the bar! He claims a corner, but that was just a bad shot.
    • 31' But here is Jones with a decent first touch as he reaches the edge of the Pompey box... but nothing comes of his foray forward and the move breaks down...
    • 30' Sunderland have failed to score in their last six Premier League away games - and they've yet to do anything about changing that statistic so far tonight.
    • 29' Take a look at Peter Crouch's earlier chance, which hit the post.
    • 28' Ferdinand's back on, in case you hadn't guessed...
    • 26' Down to the other end, and it's Leadbitter's turn to let off a hopeful shot from distance! This one's dragged wide and Begovic doesn't have to make a save.
    • 24' Here come Pompey now, with Hreidarsson on the left... play soon switches to the right, but Johnson's speculative shot is blocked and Sunderland clear their lines.
    • 22' Bardsley fires a low hard cross into the danger area as Sunderland look to find a way through.... Distin stands firm to clear!
    • 19' Ferdinand got a cut eye in that incident... there's blood all over his face and he'll have to go off for treatment... it's a boxer's cut - just above his eye, but he'll be fine.
    • 18' The home crowd want a penalty as Crouch appears to be pushed over by Ferdinand in the box! Play on says referee Alan Wiley - and rightly so!
    • 16' Sunderland's opponents tonight may well be Portsmouth, but their chants are being firmly directed at fellow strugglers Newcastle...
    • 15' Straight down at the other end, and Pompey have another chance to take the lead! But Kanu's glancing header is poor and fails to test Fulop!
    • 14' Whitehead! Ooh! Begovic is forced into making a save with his feet after the Sunderland man's effort from the edge of the box is slightly deflected by Distin! Malbranque's effort on the follow up is weak and saved again by the debutant!
    • 11' It's been quite an entertaining opening to the game... which bodes well for those who feared a tense, dour goalless draw...
    • 9' Malbranque! Oooh! Not a bad effort from the Frenchman! He lashes a volley wide of the post from a Collins cross!
    • 7' Richardson with a chance to test Begovic now, with a free-kick, 25 yards out. But the Sunderland midfielder blazes his effort into the ttands behind Pompey's goal...
    • 5' Sunderland are lucky to be still level - that really was a golden chance for Pompey...
    • 4' Oooh! What a chance for Pompey! Johnson delivers a dangerous cross which Crouch meets with a header! Ferdinand blocks! But it comes back out to the England striker! He heads again towards goal! This time he beats Fulop but is denied by the post!
    • 3' Sunderland have started confidently... they're playing the ball around nicely and keeping early possession...
    • 2' Sunderland immediately on the front foot, as you'd expect... but Bardsley's eventual cross is well-claimed by debutant Begovic.
    • 1' Here we go! Underway on the south coast! Crunch time for Sunderland!
    • - Sunderland remain unchanged so Djibril Cisse starts on bench again with Kenwyne Jones up front on his own.
    • - Pompey boss Paul Hart makes several changes - David James is left out with a neck complaint so Asmir Begovic makes his debut. And Kanu and John Utaka come in to support lone striker Peter Crouch.
    • - And the man with the whistle tonight is Alan Wiley (Staffordshire).
    • - Sunderland: Fulop, Bardsley, Davenport, Ferdinand, Collins, Tainio, Malbranque, Whitehead, Leadbitter, Richardson, Jones - Subs: Colgan, Edwards, Cisse, Murphy, Reid, Healy, McShane
    • - The teams are in... Portsmouth: Begovic, Johnson, Campbell, Distin, Hreidarsson, Utaka, Davis, Mullins, Hughes, Kanu, Crouch - Subs: Ashdown, Primus, Kaboul, Nugent, Traore, Basinas, Belhadj
    • - Victory for Sunderland when they travel to Fratton Park to take on Portsmouth will see the Black Cats retain their Premier League status for another season.

I have no affiliation to either team, but cannot help but feel sorry for Sunderland. 60% of the play, 24 shots, 7 of which were on target, yet they still lost. The fact that Portsmouth only had 2 shots on target, yet scored THREE goals, speaks volumes.
