Newcastle slumped closer to relegation with a 1-0 defeat at Tottenham Hotspur that leaves them four points from Premier League safety. More
90+3' A final, desperate ball is cleared and that is the final whistle! Tottenham's surge for Europe goes on but Newcastle are in deep, deep trouble.
87' Martins gets in behind Woodgate but fires well over from close range and then gets a kick in the crown jewels for his trouble.
80' WOODGATE!!! Tests Harper with a powerful header that the Newcastle keeper can only palm into the air!
78' Here come Spurs on the break with Aaron Lennon... Crudely chopped by Ryan Taylor who is arguably lucky to stay on the pitch. Yellow card it is.
77' Yellow card Assou-Ekotto for a rash tackle on Gutierrez.
74' MARTINS!! He has been so lively since coming on - so much better than Owen - and he wins an aerial challenge with Corluka in unorthodox fashion before firing a shot at Gomes.
70' LENNON! He is allowed space to cut inside from the right and fires a left-foot shot that flies no more than a foot wide of the right-hand post!
69' Goal disallowed for Newcastle!! Gomes comes out rashly for the corner and is left in no man's land as a clearance is smacked into Martins's hand and he wallops the ball into the bottom corner. Referee Halsey awards a handball but it was not deliberate.
61' Blimey. Two more strikers from Alan Shearer. Obafemi Martins and Mark Viduka replace Kevin Nolan and Andy Carroll.
59' GREAT BLOCK BASSONG!!! He makes a really poor clearance from a Bent cross from the left but redeems himself with a sensational block to repel Palacios's follow-up!
48' Newcastle fail to deal with a long, bouncing ball which falls for KEANE!! Fails to make proper contact with his left-foot volley!
46' Immediate danger as Hutton races down the right channel and crosses low... Beye does well to clear.
46' The second half is under way, and Alan Shearer has made a change - Alan Smith on for Steven Taylor.
45+3' A Newcastle corner is cleared and that's half-time - Tottenham completely on top and they lead through Darren Bent.
45+2' BENT!!! He heads just over from close range at the near post! Newcastle are clinging on here.
40' Huddlestone!! He lets fly from long range again and Harper gets a touch on it... but referee Halsey signals for a goal-kick.
37' MODRIC!!! His low shot from the edge of the box deflects off two defenders, but the second touch off Bassong sees the ball bobble into the arms of Steve Harper! A let-off for Newcastle.
34' Dawson is carried off on a stretcher and, after a lengthy delay, Alan Hutton replaces him.
31' Ouch. Michael Dawson lands awkwardly on his left ankle and he stays down. His afternoon is surely over.
28' HUDDLESTONE!! His piledriver is deflected over! It comes at the end of another sweeping attack for the home side, who are rampant at the moment.
24' GOAL!!! Tottenham break with Modric, whose intended pass for Keane is deflected by Bassong for Bent. His initial shot is parried by Harper but he tucks the rebound into the empty net!
12' Dawson goes down injured after a slight knock, but he should be fine to carry on.
3' Bent and Bassong get in a tangle chasing a through ball into the Newcastle box. Spurs want a free-kick but referee Mark Halsey says play on.
1' Spurs break out of one of those fashionable huddles and Newcastle get the game under way playing from left to right.
- The teams come out at a sunny White Hart Lane. Newcastle are wearing that slightly curious purple change strip of theirs. Spurs in white and navy.
- Alan Shearer's Newcastle United desperately need three points. They are four points from safety with the games running out, and wins for Sunderland, Portsmouth and Stoke yesterday mean the Magpies simply have to get something out of this game.| Tottenham Hotspur | Stats | Newcastle United |

so so bad

So sad

EVEN SHEARER TAKES THE PISS OUT OF NEWCASTLE FAN AND THEY BELIEVE HE IS WITH THEM.daft geordie comes to mind yet again...GOGO

Go 'arry you will get spurs to uefa but dont despair newcastle you will stay up

sunderland go on

Glad we got three points, just sad it's at NUFC expense. They are ailing Giants & it's not that long ago that THFC were in a similar position, so you Spurs fans shouldn't gloat. We've done nothing this season, only survive - hardly anthing to crow about. I hope Shearer keeps them up; his loyalty to NUFC shames some Premiership players (Ashley Cole, C.Ronaldo et al), who are all to ready to sell their souls for a quick buck.

its to early to get excited about newcastle going down.yes it looks as if they are going down, but theres time for them yet.i still say theres worse team than the mags in prem.sland arent safe yet so dont get to excited

We are Tottenham. And we not going down roll on man u and liverpool 7th looks good now.NUFC BYE BYE

Redknapp will surely not sell Huddlestone as stated in the papers,he is a class act and still only young, most teams would be glad to have a plyer with that range of passing and shooting ability.

Another win, bring on Man U next Saturday. We are Tottenham, Super Tottenham, we are Tottenham from the Lane........COYS

In such cases Spurs should have won more convincingly.

Whos better now,Tottenham or Newcastle.HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!!!Newcastle going down in the ground.

Newcastle hope u win against Portsmouth but l can see u going down. Championship bound.

259. tottenham are the best and they can beat all of the rest.....
