    • Tottenham Hotspur
    • Newcastle United
    • 90+3' A final, desperate ball is cleared and that is the final whistle! Tottenham's surge for Europe goes on but Newcastle are in deep, deep trouble.
    • 90+1' Duff lobs a hopeful ball towards Owen in the box but Assou-Ekotto gets there first to clear.
    • 90' Three minutes of stoppage time will be played.
    • 89' Chaos now as several players lie on the ground while Newcastle take a free-kick quickly. But they just cannot work it to their front players.
    • 87' Martins gets in behind Woodgate but fires well over from close range and then gets a kick in the crown jewels for his trouble.
    • 86' Modric tries to jink his way past multiple opponents down the right flank but his cross is charged down and Newcastle will come again. A tense finish in prospect.
    • 85' Hutton is dispossessed at the edge of the Newcastle box as he looks for Lennon and the visitors break...it comes to nothing.
    • 84' Yet another long shot from Huddlestone, who fires just wide from all of 30 yards!
    • 82' Gutierrez plays to the feet of Martins in the box who is challenged by Woodgate. Newcastle want a penalty but referee Halsey says play on.
    • 80' WOODGATE!!! Tests Harper with a powerful header that the Newcastle keeper can only palm into the air!
    • 79' Assou-Ekotto strikes the free-kick which comes back off the wall.
    • 78' Here come Spurs on the break with Aaron Lennon... Crudely chopped by Ryan Taylor who is arguably lucky to stay on the pitch. Yellow card it is.
    • 77' Yellow card Assou-Ekotto for a rash tackle on Gutierrez.
    • 75' A tremendous ovation for Jermain Defoe as he makes his return from injury - replacing Darren Bent.
    • 74' MARTINS!! He has been so lively since coming on - so much better than Owen - and he wins an aerial challenge with Corluka in unorthodox fashion before firing a shot at Gomes.
    • 72' Smith slashes wildly at a long shot and sends it into the crowd.
    • 70' LENNON! He is allowed space to cut inside from the right and fires a left-foot shot that flies no more than a foot wide of the right-hand post!
    • 69' Goal disallowed for Newcastle!! Gomes comes out rashly for the corner and is left in no man's land as a clearance is smacked into Martins's hand and he wallops the ball into the bottom corner. Referee Halsey awards a handball but it was not deliberate.
    • 68' Owen collides with Gomes and momentarily looks like he might be injured, but he should be OK. Corner Newcastle.
    • 67' Alan Smith dives in with a horrible challenge on Hutton and is lucky not to get booked.
    • 66' Mark Viduka has been on the pitch less than five minutes and he looks absolutely knackered.
    • 65' Duff delivers a Newcastle corner that Martins heads over, via Corluka. The striker wants a corner but he won't get it.
    • 64' Assou-Ekotto's cross is headed away but Newcastle do not attack with enough pace to exploit Tottenham's lack of numbers at the back.
    • 62' Martins! Gets a snapshot away from the edge of the box but the ball does not fall nicely for him and he spoons his effort over.
    • 61' Blimey. Two more strikers from Alan Shearer. Obafemi Martins and Mark Viduka replace Kevin Nolan and Andy Carroll.
    • 60' Very poor free-kick from Ryan Taylor - Newcastle cannot afford to be so wasteful with what chances they have.
    • 59' GREAT BLOCK BASSONG!!! He makes a really poor clearance from a Bent cross from the left but redeems himself with a sensational block to repel Palacios's follow-up!
    • 57' It is getting a little bit untidy from the home side, who are not quite enjoying the same level of control they did before the break.
    • 55' Spurs look less than convincing in their defending of a Newcastle corner. Andy Carroll was working really hard to hold the ball up there.
    • 54' Another Lennon cross goes unmet, and you start to wonder if Tottenham will live to regret their failure to put this game to bed.
    • 52' Huddlestone takes the free-kick in typically fulminating style but it is blocked.
    • 51' Nicky Butt charges down a Lennon cross with his arms and Mark Halsey gives a handball.
    • 49' Modric delivers a Tottenham corner, but Beye is there again to clear Newcastle's lines.
    • 48' Newcastle fail to deal with a long, bouncing ball which falls for KEANE!! Fails to make proper contact with his left-foot volley!
    • 47' Nolan chases a through ball down the right channel but Gomes gets there first. Did Nolan leave his boot in unnecessarily?
    • 46' Immediate danger as Hutton races down the right channel and crosses low... Beye does well to clear.
    • 46' The second half is under way, and Alan Shearer has made a change - Alan Smith on for Steven Taylor.
    • 45+3' A Newcastle corner is cleared and that's half-time - Tottenham completely on top and they lead through Darren Bent.
    • 45+2' BENT!!! He heads just over from close range at the near post! Newcastle are clinging on here.
    • 45' This is just a delight from Tottenham! They are zipping the ball around and toying with their opponentns. But Lennon cannot find his intended target with his cross from the left.
    • 44' Spurs have has two-thirds possession and it is not hard to see why - they have a massive technical superiority and on this evidence Newcastle look very much like relegation fodder.
    • 42' Lennon appears to be brought down by Steven Taylor at the edge of the Newcastle box but the referee waves play on.
    • 40' Huddlestone!! He lets fly from long range again and Harper gets a touch on it... but referee Halsey signals for a goal-kick.
    • 39' Nolan strides through the centre with purpose and plays a low ball to the edge of the box. Intercepted by Woodgate and Spurs clear. Better from the visitors, though.
    • 37' MODRIC!!! His low shot from the edge of the box deflects off two defenders, but the second touch off Bassong sees the ball bobble into the arms of Steve Harper! A let-off for Newcastle.
    • 36' Newcastle look pretty clueless at the moment, but Shearer looks like he is making a switch to a sort of 4-3-3 formation with Duff pushing forwards.
    • 35' It looks like Hutton will play at right-back while Vedran Corluka switches to the centre.
    • 34' Dawson is carried off on a stretcher and, after a lengthy delay, Alan Hutton replaces him.
    • 31' Ouch. Michael Dawson lands awkwardly on his left ankle and he stays down. His afternoon is surely over.
    • 29' Modric's corner is poor but Spurs are soon on the ball again with Bent holding it up in the box. He plays it to Lennon, whose cross from the right is headed back across goal by Modric and Keane just cannot get there. Great stuff from Tottenham.
    • 28' HUDDLESTONE!! His piledriver is deflected over! It comes at the end of another sweeping attack for the home side, who are rampant at the moment.
    • 27' There is nothing quite as melancholy as a topless Geordie looking crestfallen.
    • 25' Newcastle will be gutted about that. They fell victim to a couple of bad bounces, and the goal came no more than 15 seconds after Kevin Nolan had a shot saved at the other end.
    • 24' GOAL!!! Tottenham break with Modric, whose intended pass for Keane is deflected by Bassong for Bent. His initial shot is parried by Harper but he tucks the rebound into the empty net!
    • 23' Huddlestone concedes another corner which Duff will take. It's poor again and once more Bent clears.
    • 22' Newcastle corner on the right taken by Duff... Bent heads clear under no pressure at the near post. Poor cross.
    • 21' Crunching challenge by Dawson on Carroll, nicking the ball and taking plenty of the man, too. Barely legal.
    • 20' Newcastle break down the right flank and Taylor plays a through-ball... to nobody.
    • 18' After a busy start, Shearer's boys have been very much on the back foot over the last 10 minutes and just need a spark to get them going. You can't see their defence holding out for 90 minutes.
    • 16' Newcastle back off Palacios, who lauches a long-range shot that deflects off a defender.
    • 15' Spurs work the corner short and Modric plays it low to Bent at the near post, whose shot is straight at Harper!
    • 14' Beye slices his clearance wildly and the ball loops out for a Tottenham corner.
    • 12' Dawson goes down injured after a slight knock, but he should be fine to carry on.
    • 11' Owen swerves past a challenge and throws himself to the ground while Gutierrez takes over and fires a low shot that is blocked.
    • 10' Good defending from Tottenham to head clear a Newcastle delivery into the box. A competitive opening here.
    • 8' Lovely one-touch play from Spurs, knocking the ball around in triangles. Once again the final ball to Modric is just off target, though.
    • 7' Modric sends a low delivery into the box and Butt heads away. Spurs work the ball back in and Modric sees his shot from the edge of the area blocked.
    • 6' Beye impedes Palacios and Spurs have a free-kick on the left just outside the Newcastle box...
    • 4' Ryan Taylor slides a ball down the right channel for Gutierrez, who just cannot catch it. Newcastle's formation is quite fluid, switching between a 3-5-2 and a 4-4-2 with Taylor capable of playing both at the back and in midfield.
    • 3' Bent and Bassong get in a tangle chasing a through ball into the Newcastle box. Spurs want a free-kick but referee Mark Halsey says play on.
    • 2' Energetic start from the visitors, who are very conspicuously closing Spurs down at every opportunity.
    • 1' Spurs break out of one of those fashionable huddles and Newcastle get the game under way playing from left to right.
    • - A minute of applause in memory of former Spurs star Jimmy Neighbour who died last week.
    • - The teams come out at a sunny White Hart Lane. Newcastle are wearing that slightly curious purple change strip of theirs. Spurs in white and navy.
    • - Andy Carroll gets the nod to partner Michael Owen up front for Newcastle after his goal at Stoke last week, while Obafemi Martins and Shola Ameobi are on the bench. Spurs line up much as expected, but have no place in their squad for Roman Pavlyuchenko who has a back complaint. Ledley King's troublesome knee rules him out.
    • - Tottenham are in fine form with four wins from their last six games. They have secured their place in the Premier League next season and have their eye on a seventh place finish and Europa League qualification.
    • - Alan Shearer's Newcastle United desperately need three points. They are four points from safety with the games running out, and wins for Sunderland, Portsmouth and Stoke yesterday mean the Magpies simply have to get something out of this game.

  7. Glad we got three points, just sad it's at NUFC expense. They are ailing Giants & it's not that long ago that THFC were in a similar position, so you Spurs fans shouldn't gloat. We've done nothing this season, only survive - hardly anthing to crow about. I hope Shearer keeps them up; his loyalty to NUFC shames some Premiership players (Ashley Cole, C.Ronaldo et al), who are all to ready to sell their souls for a quick buck.
