    • West Bromwich
    • Liverpool
    • 90+3' West Bromwich Albion are down, but all praise to their fans, who gave them a rousing send-off. Individual errors cost the Baggies, who will be playing Championship football next season.
    • 90+1' Greening delivers a West Brom corner but the whistle goes for a foul on Reina.
    • 89' The Hawthorns is on its feet. Contrast this to the half-empty Riverside stadium in Middlesbrough yesterday.
    • 87' Gerrard tees up Kuyt, whose shot is beaten away by Kiely.
    • 85' West Brom continue to throw everything forward, but Liverpool's main defensive problems seem to be self-inflicted.
    • 83' Gerrard tries a shot from the edge of the box, which Greening charges down.
    • 82' The introduction of Ngog rather indicates why Liverpool have lost the league again. Manchester United have such strength in depth, while Ngog has done very little to suggest he has the required quality for a Premier League-winning side.
    • 80' FORTUNE!!! This time he puts the ball in the net but the goal is ruled out for offside!!
    • 79' Referee Atkinson lectures the two defenders but takes no further action! Extraordinary incident.
    • 78' BARNEY!!! Jamie Carragher and Alvaro Arbeloa square up to each other and have to be dragged apart by team-mates!
    • 77' FORTUNE AGAIN!!! Terrible miss, directing a free header over the bar!
    • 76' FORTUNE!! Shoots low from an angle on the left but Jamie Carragher deflects is over with a flying block.
    • 75' The crowd are still going for it, and they certainly deserve credit for that. Koren shoots weakly from outside the box, and Reina makes a routine save.
    • 73' Now Benayoun comes off, and David Ngog replaces him.
    • 71' It's all Liverpool now, and there is a danger that things could end a little inauspiciously for West Brom. Let's hope not.
    • 70' Gerrard spreads a sensational ball to Babel wide on the left, he cuts inside but his pass towards Kuyt is wayward.
    • 69' A very disappointed-looking Fernando Torres is brought off for Ryan Babel.
    • 68' West Brom make another change - Luke Moore comes on for Youssouf Mulumbu.
    • 67' West Brom win a free-kick on the left, Brunt takes it and Reina makes a superb claim.
    • 65' Lucas is through now, dribbles past his man and shootsÂ… tipped behind by Kiely! So ragged from the hosts.
    • 64' Credit the West Brom fans, who are making a tremendous noise. Their stay in the top flight is coming to an end, though.
    • 63' GOAL!!! DIRK KUYT MAKES IT TWO!!! West Brom are surely down! Gerrard finds Kuyt, who weaves his way into space and drills a powerful shot into the bottom-right corner!
    • 61' Every time Liverpool counter-attack they look dangerous. This time Torres is crowded out at the edge of the box but you have to imagine Liverpool will score again.
    • 59' Koren plays Menseguez through and he squares for FORTUNE!!! He waits too long for the ball and is barged off it by Lucas as he prepares to slot into the empty net!! Justice of a sort - Menseguez was actually offside.
    • 57' Tony Mowbray introduces Borja Valero for Shelton Martis, who is given a good round of applause despite his calamitous error.
    • 56' Arbeloa tees up Kuyt whose shot is blocked. As West Brom come forward they will inevitably leave more space at the back.
    • 55' Torres has a shot from an angle on the left, but it is a weak effort and Kiely saves.
    • 54' Alonso tries a first-time shot from the edge of the box but gets it all wrong and fires high over the bar.
    • 52' MENSEGUEZ!! Drills a low shot at the edge of the box, but it is straight at Reina. Then Torres fires just wide from the edge of the box.
    • 51' Mascherano is struggling after a challenge in midfield, and Xabi Alonso comes on to replace him.
    • 50' Brunt crosses from the right towards Fortune, but one of the two sliding Liverpool defenders gets enough of a touch to take the ball away from the striker.
    • 49' Referee Atkinson is letting a lot of challenges going, and there is quite a lot of aggro between the sides.
    • 47' Greening is in space on the left side for West Brom, but his lack of pace lets him down and Arbeloa has no trouble racing across to force him away from goal.
    • 46' West Brom kick off the most important 45 minutes of their season. No personnel changes from either manager.
    • 45+3' Half-time at the Hawthorns, and West Brom are in a pickle. They are 1-0 down and need to win this to have any realistic chance of staying up.
    • 45+2' Olsson barges Gerrard to the ground inside the box. No penalty, says referee Atkinson, and Olsson is furious at what he thinks was a dive from the Liverpool skipper.
    • 45+1' The free-kick is teed up for AGGER!! His low shot is fumbled by Kiely and Benayoun follows up... but he has already been flagged offside!
    • 45' Olsson blocks off Torres's run cynically, and that is a yellow card.
    • 44' Play resumes with a drop ball, and Gerrard puts the ball out for a West Brom goal-kick.
    • 42' Two home players down in the box after a collision - Greening and Zuiverloon.
    • 41' Gerrard takes a corner from the Liverpool left... played short, back to Gerrard who floats a cross for TORRES!! His glancing header forces Kiely to tip over!
    • 40' Gerrard misplaces a through ball and West Brom look to break, but Lucas and Mascherano are instantly in position to break up the attack. This is going to be tough going for the home side.
    • 39' Benayoun is beginning to get involved in the game after a quiet first half.
    • 37' Fortune fouls Mascherano, and stands on the Argentine's foot as he does so. Mascherano grimaces but he should be OK.
    • 36' West Brom win a throw inside the Liverpool haf, to cheers... but Agger hoofs the ball away rather too easily.
    • 34' Gerrard!! Cracks a first-time curler from 25 yards, but it flashes a yard or so wide of the right-hand post.
    • 33' Liverpool are starting to exert a measure of control over the game. Danger for West Brom - there would surely be no way back from two down.
    • 31' The crowd continue to sing, although they know their side have a mountain to climb. It really was quite a ricket by Martis.
    • 30' Great response by West Brom, who come flying back up the field, albeit with a lack of precision.
    • 28' GOAL!!! Steven Gerrard gives Liverpool the lead following a catastrophic error by Martis! The defender dawdles on the ball, Gerrard robs him and plants the ball low into the net.
    • 27' Brunt delivers an excellent inswinging cross from the right that Menseguez just cannot latch on to.
    • 26' Torres!! He attempts an acrobatic volley, but sends the ball high over the bar!
    • 25' Greening and Lucas both stay down after a collision in midfield. The Baggies skipper is booked for sliding in with his studs showing.
    • 24' West Brom deal easily with another Liverpool corner, then fail to make anything from a long throw at the other end.
    • 23' Gerrard's free-kick runs across the area to Torres, whose attempt from a tight angle is blocked. Then the home side cut out an Insua volley from long range.
    • 22' Liverpool free-kick on the right for a Greening challenge on Kuyt.
    • 20' Brunt and Fortune combine in the Liverpool box without being able to get a shot away. Again, it's decent stuff from the home side.
    • 18' Menseguez wins a West Brom free-kick on the right, but Brunt overhits it straight out for a goal-kick.
    • 17' Kuyt crosses from the Liverpool right but Olsson rises above Torres to head it clear.
    • 16' Lucas finds Benayoun at the edge of the area, and his first-time shot is charged down.
    • 15' Uncertain defending from Insua, who concedes a corner with Brunt lurking behind him. Liverpool clear it.
    • 14' Gerrard goes down in a heap following a Mulumbu challenge - referee Martin Atkinson says play on!
    • 12' The corner comes to nothing but Liverpool are starting to come back into this.
    • 11' Gerrard's free-kick is headed behind for a corner by Martis.. Insua to take it.
    • 10' Torres goes down under the challenge of Ryan Donk - a trip, and a good chance for Liverpool here.
    • 9' Greening nutmegs his man and plays the ball into the danger area... Reina tips it clear and Liverpool eventually scramble it away! Tremendous stuff from the Baggies.
    • 8' Brunt plays a through-ball for Greening, but Agger races across to put the ball out for a corner.
    • 6' Great start from the home side, as you might expect. It truly would be amazing if they stay up, but they most likely need two wins.
    • 5' Brunt delivers a corner from the right for GREENING!!!! Great save Reina!!! AND THE REBOUND!!! SAVED AGAIN!!! West Brom so close, brilliant by Reina, great reactions.
    • 4' Zuiverloon flings a throw in from the right, but the ball appears to slip as it comes out of his hands and it drops very short.
    • 2' Emiliano Insua plays at left-back for Liverpool - he is a late replacement for Fabio Aurelio.
    • 1' Liverpool kick off, playing from right to left in all red. West Brom are in their usual navy and white stripes. A tremendous noise around the Hawthorns.
    • - West Brom obviously have no shortage of motivation, but how will Liverpool react after their title challenge was ended yesterday lunchtime?
    • - Rafa Benitez when asked if Manchester United have been the best team in the Premier League this season: "They have more points than us, yes."
    • - West Brom's suspension has been disrupted by the suspension of striker Roman Bednar over claims in a Sunday paper that he bought drugs. Read more here

  1. John W. I didn't mean it so that arsenal would help Liverpool win the league, Just to make the last games more exicting. Can't you remember what it felt like, when arsenal won the league, beating liverpool 2-1, I think micheal thomas got both goals. or when blackburn won the league on the last game of the season. Like I said, It was meant from a football supporter not a liverpool fan

  2. but thats the goal of all the big clubs sell more product so that it becomes a brand in it's own right its why everybody wants to buy a prem club

  3. Mike S. It must be a lonely world you live in.
I know where you're coming from, with the 'All about the winning' mentallity, But unfortunatly once you grow up, other things are more important. Lets look at the last game united lost, I may be wrong, but I think it was fulham. The Utd Fans at old trafford, where leaving early, because they are shallow and fickle, because as you put it 'it's all about winning' Sadly not true, but we're all entitled to our opinion. The last time Liverpool lost the supporters sang You'll never walk alone. then look at the baggies today, they were losing, getting relegated, yet they still got behind their team. That is true support.

Let me try and rephase it so that you may understand. Lets say for example, you have a friend, as unlikely as it seems, but just for the point of this example. Your 'friend' goes for a top job, he/she doesn't get said job. You don't walk away from them because they're a loser, you support them, give them encouragement and so-on.

Which is the difference between Man U fans and the good supporters of other teams, We support, regardless of if we lose, win or draw.

And Man U fans wonder why they are despised by all other fans, it's not because Utd win, it's because of the arrogence, you show to others.

  5. nice one Steve Bull! But thats the only way to communicate with the stupidity that is the likes of MIKE S. You can't talk directly to him in case you lower yourself to his standard , and I ain't ever stooping that low!

  6. tc5705 point well made , and nice to see some respectful intelligence on here for a change! The yankees brand all be it a globally recognised logo is also a fashion label in its own right and its fashion label status has overtaken its original purpose ( that of support) but i can't see the Utd jersey holding the same stature in the fashion industry!

  8. eshelby_dunn why the hell would Arsenal help Liverpool win the title. They would rather Manc u. If a Champions Leaugue place depended on a win yesterday, you can bet they would of play a lot harder.

  10. (mike s continues to mumble in background) fairybasher choses to ignore him as it's an insult to his intelligence to continue conversing with him . Fairybasher wonders why Mike S has so much anger in him, was he not loved as a child or was he maybe "loved" too much by Daddy! Either way it's a matter for Mike S's counsellor now and of no concern to Fairybasher!

  11. but thats global branding how many people do you see walking down the street in a yankies cap and know nothing of the team buying a cap/shirt etc is different from supporting a team (the juventus club shop used to be the size of a garden shed i bet it's a lot bigger today)

  12. victorckc ...... can you not see my point ..... again i'll try to get you to understand! I don't expect that a human being who knows anything about Football would start to support a team just because they are winning! It's taking the easy option..... you should be able to identify with your team , have a genuine reason to support them , don't just follow them because you don't like rejection!!!

  16. To all you imuture saddo's that seem to find themselves with nothing better to do then come on here and leave childish rants of just slag others off. GROW UP, GET SOME FRIENDS, GO OUT MORE. But no, you'll prob just slag me off, because that's your level of intellegence. But if you are reading this, SMEG OFF and let the real fans do the talking, you may just learn something.

Now I'd like to congratulate M U for the title. They have a winning mentality, and are used to been under pressure of being top.
But I'd like to point out, that Liverpool have beat them twice in the league this season, Liverpool have lost less games, and have a better goal difference.
Now I'm not just saying this because I support Liverpool, but because I'm a fan of all football, It's a shame arsenal didn't get a result against united cause that would have made a great end day of the season.
I'm not going to say Liverpool will win the title next year, hopefully we can keep up the pressure and have another challenge.

Also I'd just like to give credit to west Broms fans. How you acted today, cheering on you team. The ovation after the final whistle was heart warming. If only all fans could be like you, you're a credit to your team and each other.

  20. tc5705 good point ! Their initial recognition did come from their appearances in Europe but not on the scale to which it exploded in the 90's . There was a Man U Store in nearly every city in the world by 2000 surely you're not saying that supporters of losing teams don't also like to buy Jerseys and knick knacks from their sides!
The demand for these shops came from the fact that every NEW supporter was buying into the whole fad of supporting the current in form team. Take for example all the people that comment on here that can't even speak English properly .... What do you think they know of the history of their club?
