    • 90+3 Free-kick to Wigan on the right, they send everyone up for it and right now deserve to win. Not with that kind of delivery though, final whistle, 1-1.
    • 90+2 Free-kick to Liverpool around 35 yards out, Aurelio is over it... He clips it into the area but it doesn't clear the two-man wall. Still with Liverpool but a dreadful ball by Kuyt trickles through to Pollitt.
    • 90+1 Rodallega it seems it going to take this free-kick... AND HE SMACKS IT AGAINST THE CROSSBAR WITH REINA BEATEN! Liverpool hack it clear! What an effort! That would have been some introduction into English football!
    • 90' Mascherano with a poor challenge around five yards from the edge of the box, to the right, Koumas is over it...
    • 88' Almost an own-goal for Wigan as Scharner slid across to intercept Riera's low cross but it spins away to safety. Throw to Liverpool Aurelio on the left with a great cross but Keane can't get to it and KUYT but the whistle goes, Keane fouled Scharner.
    • 86' Figueroa on the ball, he surges forward into space on the left but the cross is poor, doesn't clear the first man.
    • 84' LIVERPOOL SUB: Benitez finally brings on Keane but OH NO WHAT IS HE DOING!!?? He takes Gerrard off. Gerrard!! The only man who scores late goals for you all the time! Your best player! After taking off your second-best player, the person next most likely to score late goals etc etc. I give up.
    • 83' Mido on his debut... AND HE STROKES IT INTO THE BOTTOM LEFT FOR 1-1! What a cool penalty from the Egyptian, Wigan level and I think we can blame Benitez's negativity if it stays like this.

    • 81' A great ball over the top, first time by Kuyt on halfway and Gerrad is through but strong defending from Boyce to get in behind him and clear for a throw.

    • 62' De Ridder keeps the ball in on the right, he plays it in to Zaki, who turns into trouble but manages to wriggle out wide, back with De Ridder who crosses looking for Mido but Liverpool clear.
    • 60' Mascherano tries a cross from the right wing which almost catches Pollitt out at the far post but he tips it behind for a corner.
    • 59' Free-kick to Wigan on the right, everyone's up for it with Mido tussling with several players, but oh dear terrible delivery from Taylor, it goes several yards over the bar.
    • 58' Liverpool give the ball away, De Ridder goes well but his pass is loose and the Reds come again... Scharner wins it bacl though, all a bit scrappy as Wigan try to build again but it's back with Reina.
    • 56' Liverpool break, into Benayoun now who runs at the Wigan defence and slides it into Torres but his lay-off is behind Benayoun and Wigan clear.
    • 54' Wigan come again down the left and it's a good run to the byline by Brown of all people but his cross is too high for Zaki at the far post and goes out for a goal kick.

    • 45' Mido and Taylor are over this, would make sense for a leftie like Mido to take it but Taylor is quality from the dead ball... Mido does take it but the wall does its job and blocks the low shot.
    • 44' Mido wins a free-kick for Wigan just outside the area on the right, Taylor comes over for it...
    • 41' Mascherano on the ball, he rides an attempted tackle from Taylor and slides it through to Benayoun, he slips around the static Boyce and is clean through but a great parry by Pollitt! It drops to Benayoun who is too wide surely but he clips the finish behind Pollitt and in off the far post for 1-0! Great finish by Benayoun!
    • 40' Wigan have a corner which is swung into the Liverpool box, they fail to clear and it almost breaks for Mido but hacked away, it's still in the area and finally Liverpool complete the clearance!
    • 38' Babel on the left, he sprints forward past De Ridder, cuts inside and lets rip with a great rising drive that stings the palms of Pollitt! Cleared by Wigan but good play from Babel!
    • 35' Good cross from Aurelio but Torres's header is made under significant pressure from Scharner and flies miles wide.
    • 34' The corner is swung far post, it's half-cleared and lands to De Ridder on the left, he puts it back in and surely Wigan are all offside but no flag and Boyce heads it wide unmarked! That should have been 1-0! I think even he assumed he was off, everyone else certainly was!
    • 33' Scharner with a good sliding tackle on Babel but the Liverpool man is hurt. A fair challenge though and Wigan break, winning a corner.
    • 31' Lucas on the ball, a one-two with Torres, he surges to the edge of the box and it opens up but he drags the shot well wide.

    • 27' Zaki handballs but gets away with it, although his flagrant rugby tackle on Arbeloa doesn't go un-noticed. De Ridder has it on the right wing but his attempt at a step-over is laughed at by Mascherano and Liverpool clear. Cattermole finds Mido who plays a frist-time flick and Zaki is clean through but the flag is up for offside!
    • 26' Skrtel goes hard into Mido, Wigan get a free-kick about 10 yards into the Liverpool half... sent long in but Carragher gets a head on it, the second ball from Wigan is easy for Reina.
    • 24' Wigan closing down well from the front although the ball wide to De Ridder is intercepted by Aurelio. Throw to Wigan on the right which Melchiot will put in the box. Decent delivery that almost causes problems for the Reds but eventually they shepherd it out for a goal kick.
    • 23' Slide-rule pass from Arbeloa to Babel, who is in, but is also offside.
    • 21' Liverpool go down the other end and win a corner, which Gerrard takes but sends too deep. Wigan win a free-kick when Torres commits a foul as the second ball comes in from the left.
    • 20' Great break by Wigan, Mido flicks it to Cattermole, then a one-two again but Cattermole surging down the right can only get the cross as far as Skrtel, who clears.
    • 19' Free-kick to Liverpool on the left, Aurelio will take but Wigan get it clear...
    • 17' Long ball over the top, Torres with some nifty head-juggling on the edge of the box that allows him to turn Scharner and he fires in a shot but it goes wide.
    • 13' Babel with a surging run through the middle, he sends it wide to Gerrard on the overlap, he swings over an excellent cross AND TORRES WITH A GLANCING HEADER ACROSS GOAL THAT LEAVES POLLITT STANDING AND COMES OFF THE FAR POST ACROSS THE LINE AND IS CLEARED! Almost an opener for Liverpool after a great move!
    • 11' Liverpool counter but Boyce shepherds the ball back to Pollitt.
    • 10' Mido wins a header just outside the box, Wigan keep the ball but Melchiot with a stray pass to Aurelio. A rare spell with the ball for Wigan.
    • 5' A nasty looking studding on the thigh of Zaki by Mascherano, but because Zaki is made of iron he just jogs off to the touchline to get it patched up.
    • 3' Boyce has to slide in to intercept a Gerrard through-ball to Benayoun. Throw on the right, Liverpool keep the ball, Gerrard tries to head Torres through but Boyce clears. Arbeloa with a foul on De Ridder who is back defending.
    • 2' Early free-kick to the Reds on the right. Benayoun swings it in right-footed and it skips past everyone to land at the feet of Skrtel at the far post but it' just behind him and he can't control it!

    • - LIVERPOOL TEAM NEWS: There is no place in the starting line-up for Robbie Keane, not Albert Riera. Incredibly Ryan Babel starts again, despite being poor in the Cup draw with Everton. Alvaro Arbeloa starts at right back with Sami Hyypia not even on the bench.
    • - WIGAN TEAM NEWS: Mido gets a debut after joining on loan from Middlesbrough and he will play alongside fellow Egyptian Amr Zaki. Luis Antonio Valencia and Chris Kirkland are out of the squad with injuries so Mike Pollitt and Daniel de Ridder step in as able deputies. Emerson Boyce is in for the suspended Titus Bramble. New boy Hugo Rodallega is on the bench after receiving international clearance.
