    Time:90'
    • Arsenal
    • Birmingham City
    • 90+4 And that is the final whistle! Arsenal win 3-1 and move up two spaces to fourth, although Manchester City have a game in hand.
    • 90+2 Free-kick to Arsenal, taken quickly by Diaby, Van Persie on the right-hand side of the box, he cuts inside on to his left, races away from Ridgewell but his shot is blocked and Birmingham survive.
    • 90' ARSENAL SUB: That was Eboue's last act of the match as Wilshere comes on in his place.
    • 89' Eboue has it on the right, with time and space to pick out the cross and he plays it low across the six-yard box for Diaby arriving late AND HE MUST SCORE BUT A SPECTACULAR SAVE BY HART!
    • 88' Blues give it away again, Diaby inside to Fabregas but Carr clears.
    • 87' Arsenal are camped deep in the Birmingham half but that spell of territorial dominance ends when Eboue tries a pointless backheel and Blues clear.
    • 86' Van Persie cuts in from the left to Cesc, who slows it down but wide now with Eboue, he one-twos with Sagna who crosses but cleared. Still with Arsenal though!
    • 84' Larsson puts the corner in for Johnson but half-cleared by Arsenal, drops to McSheffrey but his shot is blocked. Now Ridgewell has it on the left but his cross is easy for Mannone. Arsenal counter, Mannnne quick to Fabregas, left to Arshavin, he has options but with one touch he cuts into the box and Birmingham back off so he passes a curling low shot into the bottom right for 3-1! Lovely finish by Arshavin but non-existent defending by Birmingham.
    • 83' Long, diagonal ball aimed from the right to Phillips forces Gallas to head behind for a Birmingham corner.
    • 82' Good hanging ball from Van Persie which Song and Diaby attack but headed clear.
    • 81' Bowyer fouls Van Persie around 30 yards out on the Arsenal right, clumsy as opposed to dirty, he helps him up and the Dutchman will take this...
    • 80' Birmingham swarm forward on the counter, they have men over as Larsson swings it over from the right, Ridgwell is in and he cuts it across the area with a great first-time ball and MCSHEFFREY AND O'CONNOR ARE FREE FROM SIX YARDS BUT MANNONE FLIES OUT TO BLOCK!
    • 79' BLUES SUB: Kevin Phillips on for Carsley as Alex McLeish goes for broke.
    • 78' Van Persie to take this then, just on the right corner of the box... and he swings a dipping, flat delivery angled for the bottom left and Song flies in but just beyond him!
    • 77' Great play by Gibbs to intercept, beat his man and launch an attack with a clever ball inside to Fabregas. Eventually it comes to Cesc again on the right, he plays a one-two with Song and Larsson brings him down just on the right-hand edge of the box.
    • 75' Van Persie swings the corner in deep AND VERMAELEN FAR POST WITH THE HEADER but Hart is on hand to block with his fists, although Gallas flying across got a touch on it as he tried to divert it past the Blues keeper.
    • 74' More good pressure from Arsenal as Carsley puts it out for a corner on the right that Van Persie will swing in with his left...
    • 73' Song slides in late on McSheffrey, looks like a booking for that challenge.
    • 72' ARSENAL SUB: Sagna on for Rosicky, so Eboue will move up into midfield.
    • 71' BIRMINGHAM SUB: McSheffrey on for McFadden.
    • 71' Arshavin tries a cross, or a shot, who knows what, from the right, but it goes miles over.
    • 70' Song finds Arshavin who clips a lovely little ball in for Van Persie but a great saving challenge from Johnson, wide to Eboue now but his cross is easy for Hart.
    • 69' Good play by Arshavin, popping up on the left, cutting inside and crossing for Van Persie but too close to Hart who claims easily.
    • 68' Arshavin inside to Cesc, who goes down like a sack of spuds even though he clearly lost the ball, play on says the ref but the counter breaks down as Larsson mis-controls.
    • 67' Van Persie wide to Eboue who drags it low into the box but Carsley is on hand to put into touch.
    • 66' Inside to Arshavin on the edge of the box but just behind him to he back-tracks and clips a hanging short ball for Van Persie who tries an acrobatic bicycle kick but gets it all wrong.
    • 65' Van Persie is penalised for a foul deep in the Birmingham half. Arsenal are in danger of letting a big lead slip unless they capitalise on their possession.
    • 64' Only temporary respite for Birmingham though as Song comes forward but he hammers it over from range.
    • 63' Arshavin on the right, inside to Eboue, now Song to Cesc but he lazily plays it to three blue shirts.
    • 62' Fabregas collides with Carsley but six-to-one and half-a-dozen to the other as the ref waves play on.
    • 61' BIRMINGHAM SUB: Garry O'Connor is on for Jerome.
    • 60' That was a lucky escape for Birmingham, who have done well to keep it to a one-goal deficit so far.
    • 59' Okay, finally they will take this as Arshavin plays it to Van Persie WHO HAMMERS THE SHOT OFF THE BAR! Almost worth the wait...
    • 58' Birmingham are still arguing that one and, as Arshavin and Van Persie prepare to take it from eight yards or so, Hart is booked for rowing about the wall.
    • 57' Arsenal come down the right, good play by Arshavin to free Cesc but Larsson falling and sliding in intercepts and it's back to Hart. But the ref has blown! What is this? Indirect free-kick, very close in, for a back-pass. That looked harsh, Larsson barely knew if he was coming or going there, he was on his front as he made it.
    • 56' After that promising start for Birmingham this half Arsenal are just all over them now.
    • 54' Fabregas gets it on the edge of the D and he tries a shot but spoons it well over.
    • 53' Arshavin races forward with Blues defenders backpedalling, Dann looks confused as he slips past him as it opens up and he touches it in for Fabregas, but Larsson will get there first to pass it back to Hart BUT HE PLAYS IT AGAINST FABREGAS WHO CAN FINISH but Hart gets down to smother at his feet.
    • 52' Diaby gets the ball on the left wing, he drills in a low cross that Johnson slips while trying to clear and ARSHAVIN IS IN AND MUST SCORE but he drags it wide of the far post from six yards! Wouldn't have counter, flag was up for offside so Arshavin can afford to giggle at his miss.
    • 51' Carr and Rosicky have a laugh after the latter fouls the former, Blues free-kick on the right, deep towards halfway.
    • 49' Fabregas comes forward, it opens up for him in the middle so he tries a shot but gets it all wrong, dragging it low and well wide.
    • 48' Birmingham start promisingly this half as Bowyer fires over after some dodgy defending from the hosts.
    • 46' Second half underway at the Emirates!
    • 45+3 Half-time and Arsenal lead 2-1, although it should be more for them and less for Birmingham, who were lucky to see Lee Bowyer's goal stand.
    • 45+2 Arsenal could be in down the left but Gibbs's cross is too deep.
    • 45+1 Almost some comedy defending from Birmingham under little danger, eventually Carsley plays it back to Hart.
    • 45' Three minutes of added time being played.
    • - And look at how sad Carson Yeung is after seeing his new toy go 2-0 down.
    • - Here, look at how happy Arsenal are after Abou Diaby scores a goal.
    • 44' Arshavin frees Eboue on the right but his low cross is cleared. Birmingham try to counter but Arsenal break it up and Fabregas can find Arshavin again but just ahead of the Russian.
    • 43' Van Persie puts the corner in but headed away, Rosicky now with a shot from range but straight to Hart.
    • 42' Song to Arshavin but in slides Carsley to put it behind for a corner on the right.
    • 41' Van Persie on the right, he puts it low to the edge of the box, Fabregas on it and he slips it left to ARSHAVIN WITH A DRIVE BUT PARRIED BY HART! The ball is still in play, Diaby cuts it back across the box and Arshavin again but he mis-hits it and Birmingham clear!
    • 40' Arsenal try to bounce back with a third but resolute defending from Birmingham sees them survive.
    • 39' I have to say that looked like a foul from Larsson. In the good old days hurling yourself at the keeper was fine but these days you cannot even go close let alone touch him.
    • 38' Jerome gets in at the near post from McFadden's cross but Song heads into touch. Good spell from Birmingham as Ridgewell crosses the ball in, it comes off an Arsenal head and Mannone flaps under pressure from Larsson AND BOWYER RIFLES IT IN! 2-1, Arsenal are furious, convinced Larsson fouled the keeper, but it stands.
    • 37' McFadden gets it off Jerome on the left and he angles a cross for Larsson back post but too high and too deep and it curls into Mannone's arms.
    • 36' Hart hits it long and Jerome wins the second ball but Vermaelen slides in to clear.
    • 35' Arsenal take it short and end up winning a corner on the left. Arshavin takes but headed clear. Still with Arsenal though.
    • 34' Bowyer goes into the back of Arshavin to give away a free-kick on the right. Not sure if it was a booking or not but Bowyer seems concerned at something. Clearly a foul though.
    • 33' Arsenal just do not need to do anything stupid now, they are in control and keeping the ball is the name of the game.
    • 32' ARSENAL SUB: Theo Walcott's return lasted all of half an hour, he comes off still suffering the effects of that Ridgewell challenge no doubt, Arshavin on in his place.
    • 31' Arsenal go for the direct approach with a high ball almost freeing Van Persie but Johnson heads it back to Hart.
    • 30' Birmingham have a touch more confidence now but another move breaks down thanks to some poor control by Jerome this time.
    • 29' Larsson to take and he swings a super shot up and down over the wall but parried by Mannone and Arsenal clear. The counter could be on now, but Birmingham get back quickly. Rosicky has it, interplay with Van Persie and the Czech has a pop but blocked, Fabregas goes down but nothing given and Blues clear to touch.
    • 28' Carr with a foul on Rosicky and Arsenal take it quickly. Larsson intercepts though, now Bowyer but his ball is intercepted by Vermaelen, now McFadden has it and Song fouls him for a free-kick, central, around 30 yards out.
    • 27' Rosicky over-plays it and Birmingham can break but Jerome leaves Vermaelen in a heap on the ground and Arsenal have a free-kick.
    • 25' Another Arsenal attack as Diaby picks it up on half-way, surges forward and it opens up for him but his drive from the edge of the box is weak and straight at Hart.
    • 23' Arsenal back into their groove of dominating possession, with Birmingham not even coming close to giving Gallas and Vermaelen a work-out.
    • 22' Walcott is played clean through on the right but the flag is up.
    • 20' Birmingham are shell-shocked but at least try to keep possession from kick off. Arsenal duly win it back though.
    • 18' Van Persie comes through the middle, he is surrounded by blue shirts but spots Rosicky on the overlap, he cuts it back across the box, Van Persie's sliding in but misses it AND DIABY AT THE BACK STICK TO RAM IT INTO THE TOP RIGHT FOR 2-0! A quick-fire double for the Gunners, Birmingham switched off after conceding.
    • 16' Larsson's clearance is weak and drops to Song centrally, he slips it to Van Persie on the left and the Dutchman skins Carr with a brilliant drag back and he drills it into the bottom right for 1-0! Super piece of skill and an incisive finish, Arsenal are ahead and deservedly so.
    • 15' Arsenal with a good spell of possession, Birmingham have barely touched the ball in the last five minutes.
    • 13' Bowyer is in his trademark pose of looking incredulous at the referee following a foul. Arsenal pretty much owning the ball so far, Birmingham as expected sitting deep and looking to break.
    • 12' Rosicky on the left, he cuts inside and drills it low on goal but well wide.
    • 11' The initial corner is cleared but it breaks to Fabregas on the left again. He tries a cross, half-cleared and there could be danger for Birmingham but eventually they get it away.
    • 10' Walcott is fine after that knock and, after skinning Ridgwell on the right wing, puts in a cross shot that Hart has to tip over.
    • 9' Fabregas cuts inside from the right but his shot is blocked by Carsley, it breaks wide left to Diaby who crosses far post for VAN PERSIE but he heads it back across goal and Rosicky flying in can only get a scuffed contact on it, back off Hart and against the prostrate Rosicky but weakly wide.
    • 8' Walcott eventually gets to his feet, he seems fine other than shaken up from the impact.
    • 7' Walcott is in a heap on the floor after a fair but heavy tackle from Ridgewell, which took the ball but the follow through caught him.
    • 6' Arsenal have a corner on the right, which Van Persie trots over to take. Headed clear from Vermaelen.
    • 5' High into the box that Johnson makes a mess of clearing and it drops to Van Persie on the volley but he gets the connection all wrong and it bobbles wide for a goal
    • 4' Poor delivery from Van Persie for that free-kick, high and deep and into Hart's arms.
    • 3' McFadden with a clumsy challenge on Eboue, Arsenal get a free-kick on the right.
    • 2' Arsenal put some pressure on Hart, who hoofs away under pressure from Van Persie.
    • 1' Match underway at the Emirates!!
    • - It's a pretty overcast day in London, no rain yet but certainly threatening. Not too chilly though, and the moist surface will suit Arsenal's passing game.
    • - BIRMINGHAM TEAM NEWS: Four changes from the 2-1 defeat at Burnley, with Liam Ridgewell replacing Franck Queudrue in defence, Sebastian Larsson and Lee Carsley in to pack the midfield with Keith Fahey and Teemu Taino making way, and Cameron Jerome replacing Garry O'Connor up front.
    • - ARSENAL TEAM NEWS: Vito Mannone continues his run in goal with Manuel Almunia returning to the bench after injury. There are changes from the 6-2 win over Blackburn as Emmanuel Eboue starts at right-back instead of Bacary Sagna and Kieran Gibbs coming in for Gael Clichy on the left. Theo Walcott also gets a start after his recovery from injury problems, with Andriy Arshavin dropping to the bench.
    • - Referee: Lee Probert (Wiltshire)
    • - Birmingham: Hart, Carr, Roger Johnson, Dann, Ridgewell, Larsson, Ferguson, Bowyer, Carsley, McFadden, Jerome; Subs: Maik Taylor, O'Connor, Phillips, McSheffrey, Damien Johnson, Bent, O'Shea
    • - Arsenal team: Mannone, Eboue, Gallas, Vermaelen, Gibbs, Fabregas, Song Billong, Diaby, Walcott, van Persie, Rosicky; Subs: Almunia, Sagna, Ramsey, Silvestre, Wilshere, Arshavin, Traore
    • - That last stat is pretty negative - but it's not all doom and gloom as their defensive record has been good, only conceding eight goals in eight games, with three clean sheets and never conceding more than two. They lie 14th, although only goal difference separates them from the bottom three. Click here for Premier League standings
    • - Birmingham remain the only Premier League team without a first half goal this season, and have failed to score in the opening 74 minutes of any league match in 2009-10. In total they have scored only five league goals this season – Portsmouth (4) are the only side to have netted fewer. Only twice before in Premier League history has a promoted team scored five or fewer goals in their opening eight league matches of the season and avoided relegation – West Ham (5) in 1993-94 and Bradford City (4) in 1999-00.
    • - Arsenal have scored 24 league goals this season - more than any other side in the division. This is also their highest number of goals in their opening seven matches of a top flight season in 51 years, since they scored 25 goals in seven matches in 1958-59.
    • - Birmingham have not won in their last 24 top flight visits to Arsenal. It is almost exactly 52 years since their last victory – 3-1 in old Division One on October 19, 1957.
    • - STAT ATTACK: Arsenal and Birmingham have met 120 times in the league. Arsenal have won 54, Birmingham City 34 and there have been 32 draws.
    • - This is a bit of a grudge match in the sense that, two seasons ago, the corresponding fixture saw Blues defender Martin Taylor snap Eduardo's leg after only three minutes. Arsenal's title bid come off the rails after they threw away a one-goal lead to 10 men, and William Gallas threw his infamous hissy-fit, sitting on half-way while Birmingham took the equalising penalty. Neither Taylor nor Eduardo features today, both injured.
