    • 48' Milner gets to the byline down the left and squares the ball back to Carew, but the big striker misses his kick and the chance goes begging.
    • 47' Ashley Young looks in a very bad way after being clattered by Michael Brown in the lower back. He will try to continue.
    • 46' The second half gets underway at Villa Park and a long ball is punted straight up to John Carew.
    • 45+1' The half-time whistle brings to an end a commanding performance from Aston Villa, who lead an inept Portsmouth 2-0 with Paul Hart having a lot to do!
    • 45' Just one minute will be added at the end of this first half with Portsmouth pushing hard to salvage anything from this opening period.
    • 44' Portsmouth win a corner straight up at the other end but it comes to nothing as Dunne clears again under pressure.

    • 32' PENALTY! Nadir Belhadj is the culprit as Petrov is clumsily tripped inside the area and James Milner will step up for this spot kick...
    • 31' The home fans get pretty agitated with Brown who takes an age over a pretty harmless free kick before over-hitting it out of play.
    • 30' Carew does well to rise above Ben-Haim and flick a header on, but for whatever reason nobody in a claret and blue shirt is there to meet it.
    • 29' O'Neill and Hart are both incredibly animated on the touchline as this first half becomes pretty scrappy midway through.
    • 28' Agbonlahor hauls back Mokoena as the midfielder beats him to the balland that was pretty harsh with both players battling hard.

    • 26' Hart continues to bark orders at Boateng and Piquionne in particular as the pair do not track back as much as he would like.
    • 25' Cuellar and Milner exchange passes inside the Pompey half but the visitors are defending well thus far.

    • 21' The visitors press forward through Boateng with Warnock having to make a stern challenge at left-back to prevent the cross.

    • 17' Cuellar throws the ball back down the line to Collins, who feeds Warnock out on the left - patient stuff this from the hosts.
    • 16' Petrov stays down for a few seconds on halfway after a clash with Smith but the Villa captain gets back to his feet gingerly.

    • 10' What a save from James! Young whips in a vicious cross which Mokoena inadvertently heads straight at his own keeper, but James makes a stunning, point-blank save!
    • 9' Villa have Portsmouth boxed in at the moment with Carew and Agbonlahor joining up the play very effectively.

    • 7' Villa keep the ball patiently in their half, stroking the ball around at ease with Portsmouth sitting back.
    • 6' Carew cannot quite keep a through ball from Dunne in play as it beats the lunge of Kaboul, but that was good play from the big defender.
    • 5' Boateng executes a very slick back-heel to release O'Hara down the left but Cuellar holds his ground well.
    • 4' Ashley Young indulges in his first run down the left but his end product is poor with a wild cross which drifts out for a goal kick.

  4. When I say Portsmouth are in a bad way this is not meant as a dig in the club.
Since winning the cup various things have been allowed to go on at the club.
They have changed their manager twice, they have sold some good players and above all
the takeover has taken TOO LONG to go through even though a conclusion now seems likely.
