  • Live Commentary

    • 90+3' That's full-time, and the points are shared at Villa Park. Spurs stay fourth, and just about shaded this encounter.
    • 90+2' HESKEY!!! Young crosses from the left and the England striker directs a superb backwards glancing header just over!
    • 90+1' Three minutes of time will be added on for stoppages.
    • 89' Still the visitors dominate, and there is an air is disquiet around Villa Park. They will be happy to hear the final whistle.
    • 88' Lennon fires a low cross from the right that beats Friede; but Defoe cannot turn it in with Beye in attendance.
    • 87' Agbonlahor chases a long ball down the Villa left but Bassong shows an impressive turn of pace to stay in front of the striker and play the ball back to Gomes.
    • 86' Both managers are out in their technical areas, and at this point you feel Villa would take a point.
    • 84' Stout defending by Villa to head clear a corner from the right, but it is all Tottenham now.
    • 82' Cynical foul by Huddlestone to stop a Villa counter-attack and that is a yellow card.
    • 80' Lennon accelerates into the box and shimmies wildly, but Cuellar nicks the ball off him.
    • 78' Robbie Keane comes on for Kranjcar as Tottenham go for the kill.
    • 77' GOAL!!! SPURS ARE LEVEL AT LAST!! Dunne fails to clear and the ball falls to Dawson, who chests the ball down and crashes a superb volley into the top left corner!
    • 75' Another straight swap from Villa - Emile Heskey replaces John Carew.
    • 73' Defoe has the ball in the net but it's ruled out for offside!! Huddlestone's initial shot was parried by Friedel, and Defoe used his arm to control Sidwell's headed clearance.
    • 72' Kranjcar goes it alone again, and this time he hits a really poor effort high and wide.
    • 71' Martin O'Neill makes a like-for-like swap - Nigel Reo-Coker makes way for Steve Sidwell.
    • 69' Luke Young fluffs his clearance and gives it to Lennon inside the box... but Milner comes haring back to bail out his team-mate.
    • 68' Referee Dowd awards Aston Villa a free-kick, to sustained ironic cheers from the Holte End. He hasn't been that bad!
    • 66' Defoe slips a ball to Kranjcar on the left side of the box and his shot is deflected for a corner - the result of which is a Bassong overhead kick that goes high over the bar.
    • 65' Spurs make a change - Jermaine Jenas is on for Wilson Palacios.
    • 63' This is better from Spurs, although it still lacks a bit of zip. Huddlestone has a good chance to strike from the edge of the box, but by the time he sorts his feet out an opponent is there to block his shot.
    • 61' Spurs win a free-kick a few yards in from the left corner flag, and Kranjcar delivers right-footed... headed away.
    • 60' If you're a Fantasy Football player, the points from the 3pm games are in: Fantasy Premier League
    • 58' Spurs put together a 20-pass move that ambles towards the edge of the Villa box, where Dunne boots the ball into next week - to great cheers from the home fans.
    • 56' Excellent first-time cross to the far post from Corluka to Crouch, but Dunne is there and puts the ball out for a corner.
    • 54' Down goes Lennon, and referee Phil Dowd adjudges that to be a foul by Luke Young. Not sure about that... Kranjcar takes the free-kick and Villa bundle it untidily to safety.
    • 53' Lennon loses possession and Villa come away on the break. Ashley Young finds Milner whose cross eludes the three claret shirts in the box.
    • 51' Cuellar comes forward down the right and Villa switch it to Ashley Young on the other flank. He delivers an inswinging diagonal cross from the left that Carew can only head up in the air and out for a goal kick.
    • 50' Kranjcar!! Seizes on Crouch's knockdown and smashes the bouncing ball goalwards - Friedel is at full stretch to parry! Great effort.
    • 48' Well, we can hope for a bit more excitement but we may not get it. The tempo is steady at best, although Spurs will obviously have to take some risks as the game progresses.
    • 46' No personnel changes at the break. Let's hope for a slight injection of pace.
    • 45+2' Half-time in a largely tepid encounter. Why not while away 15 minutes by looking at this picture of Jermain Defoe looking a bit disappointed?
    • 45+1' A glancing header from Dawson is on target, but lacks power and is straight at Friedel.
    • 45' Played high into the box from the Tottenham right, and both Huddlestone and Crouch look like they might get a shot away but it's alert defending from Villa.
    • 43' Huddlestone looks long for Lennon on the right, but his raking diagonal ball is too high for the diminutive winger.
    • 42' Right, Tottenham have a free-kick, dead centre, about 30 yards from goal. Kranjcar strikes it into the wall and hits the follow up straight at Friedel.
    • 40' With nothing of note going on here, why not read about Manchester United's penalty-heavy win against Portsmouth? Portsmouth 1-4 Man Utd
    • 38' Luke Young gets well down the left, combining with Ashley Young to win a corner - again, it comes to nothing.
    • 37' The game has gone off the boil rather, with the ball being moved around the middle third without much threat.
    • 36' Here's what happened in the earlier games around the division: Premier League scores and scorers
    • 34' The ball bounces into the Spurs box, and Agbonlahor seems to lose it in flight as he turns his back to it.
    • 32' Poor again by Assou-Ekotto, who booms a speculative long ball straight through to Friedel.
    • 31' Kranjcar makes another superb, feinting run into the Villa half. He plays it to Assou-Ekotto, who sends a disappointing cross into the Villa box.
    • 29' DEFOE!! He's so sharp! Kranjcar plays the ball in from the right and the England striker cracks an instinctive volley just over.
    • 28' Huddlestone shoots from the edge of the box, it takes a delfection off a defender and Friedel tips it over.
    • 27' Young takes on Lennon down the Villa left and finds Agbonlahor. Villa slow the attack down and switch the play. It is eventually worked to Reo-Coker who drags a poor, poor shot well wide.
    • 25' Milner crosses from the right... he has Carew in the middle, but Gomes rises to claim a catch.
    • 24' Villa have won six corners already but done very little with them. Young's delivery is sub-standard yet again!
    • 23' Lovely threaded ball through from Milner to Agbonlahor, who turns and hits a left-foot shot.. wide!
    • 21' Huddlestone knocks it through for DEFOE!! His shot is parried and DAWSON FOLLOW UP!!! AMAZING GOAL-LINE CLEARANCE BY CUELLAR!!! How does that stay out?
    • 20' Kranjcar is fouled 30 yards from the Villa goal and Huddlestone looks like he fancies a shot from here.
    • 19' Good early cross from the right by Lennon, but it seems to catch Crouch a little by surprise and goes harmlessly out for a Villa throw.
    • 18' It's all ambling along rather nicely, but without either side carrying too much menace.
    • 16' Young with another poor corner from the Villa left. Cut out easily by the first man.
    • 14' Villa are bossing possession now, playing the ball around and frustrating their opponents
    • 12' Agbonlahor is sometimes criticised for being a bit lightweight and valuing style over substance, so that ugly, ugly goal was quite significant in its way.
    • 10' GOAL!!! Gabriel Agbonlahor scrambles it in for Aston Villa!! A corner comes in from the left, Cuellar's header hits Assou-Ekotto on the top of the arm, but Agbonlahor follows it in to bundle the ball in from close range - his eighth goal of the season!
    • 9' Carew attempts an extravagant long-range drive that rises high over the bar. That would have been some goal. But it wasn't.
    • 8' Fabio Capello's right-hand man Franco Baldini is in the crowd, and there is plenty of promising English talent on show here.
    • 6' Young whips in a corner from the Villa left, but it is headed clear at the near post.
    • 4' Kranjcar!! He finds Assou-Ekotto wide on the left with a brilliant pass, the ball comes back in to him and he smashes a shot that nearly takes Friedel into the net with it! The American just manages to tip the ball over.
    • 3' Lovely feet from Huddlestone, dragging the ball back and shovelling a super little pass with his left foot. No wonder Fabio Capello likes him.
    • 2' Carew charges down a Gomes clearance, although he appears to use his arm to do so. Free-kick Spurs.
    • 1' Off we go! Tottenham currently lie fourth, and while Villa could potentially overtake them, they would have to win by four goals. Following their 9-1 win against Wigan, Spurs' goal difference is rather good.
    • - Spurs beat Wigan 9-1 last weekend, but the last Premier League team to win by an eight-goal margin went on to lose their next match. Newcastle United won 8-0 at home against Sheffield Wednesday in September 1999, but then lost 3-2 at Leeds United six days later.
    • - Villa manager Martin O'Neill has not won in his last nine Premier League matches against Harry Redknapp stretching back 12 years. His only victory over the Tottenham manager in 14 Premier League meetings (9 defeats) was Leicester City's 2-1 home win against Redknapp's West Ham United in October 1997.
    • - Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur have met 132 times in the league. Aston Villa have won 49, Tottenham Hotspur 52 and there have been 31 draws.
    • - TEAMS: ASTON VILLA: Friedel; Young, Cuellar, Dunne, Beye; Milner, Petrov, Reo-Coker, Young; Agbonlahor, Carew... SUBS: Guzan, Sidwell, Downing, Delph, Heskey, Gardner, Clark... TOTTENHAM: Gomes, Corluka, Dawson, Bassong, Assou-Ekotto; Lennon, Huddlestone, Palacios, Kranjcar; Defoe, Crouch... SUBS: Alnwick, Hutton, Bale, Bentley, Jenas, Keane, Rose.
