Wolverhampton Wanderers were denied a vital three points at Aston Villa as a John Carew brace salvaged a 2-2 draw in the Premier League. More
90+4' The final whistle blows, and it's a point that Wolves would have taken before the game, but under the circumstances they will perhaps feel a little disappointed they couldn't hang on for all three.
89' Wolves substitution: Chris Iwelumo replaces Matt Jarvis.
88' Warnock makes a suicidal backpass to Friedel and the keeper has to react quickly to clear the danger miliseconds before Doyle pounces.
82' GOAL!! Heskey turns and holds the ball up in the Wolves box and lays it off to Sidwell. The substitute strikes low and Carew - who was level when Sidwell struck - gets a telling touch to steer the ball past Hahnemann and level it for Villa!
77' Villa substitution: Steve Sidwell replaces Stewart Downing.
75' Ashley Young skips down the left and Zubar sends him flying! The referee whips out his yellow card in no time.
72' Villa substitution: Marc Albrighton replaces Richard Dunne.
71' another ball into the Wolves box causes a scramble on the goal-line and Henry somehow denies Heskey from close range! The Wolves skipper has made some vital blocks today.
64' Wolves substitution: Michael Mancienne replaces Stephen Ward. McCarthy makes another reshuffle.
62' Milner curls an inviting cross to Carew, but the header is a relatively easy catch for Hahemann. He needed to test the keeper from there.
46' The second half is underway!
HT Wolves substitution: George Elokobi replaces Adlene Guedioura.
45+3' The half-time whistle goes, and Martin O'Neill has some work to do at the break.
42' Guedioura takes Petrov's legs clean out from under him! The Frenchman takes the yellow, perhaps relieved that it's not a red!
41' Young spots Downing's late run to the far post and picks him out with an inviting crross... Downing heads it into the ground and it bounces up and over the bar!
38' GOAL!! Heskey loses the ball to Jones in midfield and Wolves push forward. Jarvis pulls a ball back from the byline and Milner turns it past Friedel as he runs back to deny Jones the shot!
34' Stiliyan Petrov brings Zubar down in the Wolves box. The defender limps away for treatment but the Villa skipper escapes a second booking. He's treading on thin ice now.
23' GOAL!! Wolves send in a free-kick from deep and Zubar knocks it back to Craddock, who beats Friedel to level!
23' Doyle turns to evade Petrov and gets a nasty kick in the back of the leg. The Bulgarian is rightly booked.
16' GOAL!! Collins roams forward and loses the ball. Wolves break and pour men forward but they run out of ideas and it's Villa's turn to break. Young has the beating of Zubar and drills a low cross in for Carew who has the simplest task to steer home from close range for the opener!
8' Downing bursts into the box from the left but Hahnemann blocks his shot at the near post!
4' Cuellar squares a ball across to Carew, who executes a swift turn and drills a low shot across goal that goes wide! Warnock slides in at the far post but just can't get there in time.
3' Ward shields the ball out for a goal kick. The pitch is in great nick and it's raining, so hopefully there'll be plenty of stuff played on the deck.

45′ Why is MON so insistant on playing Heskey? He is more of a spectator than a striker when there are players with proven goal-scorring ability sitting on the bench. If MON had taken Heskey off and brought Delfouneso on at half time Villa would probably have taken all 3 points from Wolves.

Whats All The Fuss About

comment 112 is right on mon isnt using his squad.
dreadful villa very lucky to get a point - even the defense is crumbling.
mon has made a big mistake with downing - an expensive flop - at least he was subbed.
why did he keep petrov on after a yellow and several warnings - petrov has no talent.
we wont finish seventh even at this rate.

cuellar wasted at right back.

Must say I thought Villa would of caught Spurs by now... Not the end of the season thought...
COYS!

today was a derby match too don't forget and we all know anything can happen in derbies....
give wolves credit too because they played very well and it wouldn't be the 1st time they've suprised a supposedly bigger team this season.
like i say- there's no rubbish teams in the premier league

chinnock you are wrong, chelsea were already up the top end of the table before abramovich came. our squad is good enough to beat anyone on our day, and you're saying we can't last the season before the season has even finished!!! if we don't finish 4th this season then come and moan, cry , sulk whatever but not before then because what you're actually doing by turning against the team is contributing to our own downfall like in past seasons. i'm sorry but for a long time there's been a very vocal minority of fickle villa fans holding us back and causing unrest amongst the team and fans and it's this that needs to change, not the management or direction of the club.
o'neill knew when he came here that it would take years (not weeks or months) to build a successful squad and more importantly a squad that continue its success for years to come. mon and randy lerner have really built this club up from the bottom and put foundations in place that will see us well in years to come (in comparison tro many other premier league teams), so just give him the backing to continue the success he's had so far. not once have we went backwards under o'neill and it's common knowledge that you have to improve year on year just to be able to stand still in this tough league and i think we've steadily surpassed that.
just look at the supposed lower teams like hull (even they can pay £50k a week wages to certain players) or bolton, sunderland etc who have been known to spend £10m plus on a player nowadays.
this football lark ain't as easy as you think....

Stench.....Sorry I do not agree.....I want to see Villa succeed, but with current squad there is no chance. There is no quality in depth and that comes from spending money (like it or not). Chelsea were a second rate team only a few years ago until they had huge investment. Villa need to get big name players into the first team and need a squad that can last a full season. Currently they are only able to perform for about 70% of the season. We have blown the games in hand we had against much weaker opponents. If we really want to contend for top spots, we need a big cash injection.

Get rid of that Cuellar. Why on earth does O'neill insist on playing him at right back is beyond me.

chinnock you havn't got a clue. we are 2 points off 4 th spot!! what don't you understand about that?
this is the toughest league in the world and there are no rubbish teams in it. even chelsea and other big teams have lost to the likes of wigan and wolves this season so it's not all bad. maybe you should wait to see if we actually make the champions league before getting all negative and giving up all hope.
we're playing good football and are in the right hands with MON and randy lerner... it takes time to build a successful football team... just ask alex ferguson (it took him more than 5 years before man utd won anything). what do you want? a billionaire owner who just throws money at everything and sacks the manager after every game we don't win? man city have spent a fortune but as you can see money doesn't bring instant success. no my friend villa are doing things right and if MON stays long enough i truly beleive we win the league under his management. it's nothing to do with lack of ambition, mon has tried to improve us year on year and from where i'm standing he's succeeding. have some patience and stop making the team nervous by turning on them at every given opportunity. the players sense the fickleness of the fans and are on edge all the time because they know that in a heartbeat they can go from hero's to public enemy no.1 in a matter of seconds...

Stench....You've got no ambition.....last season was a failure and this season is going the same way. 2nd in a Final is nothing to shout about.....losing 4 points to Stoke & Wolves when your chasing Champions league is also embarassing. We are all behind the team (as have been for 30 years) but we need to step up a gear

FICKLE FÚCKÉRS STOP WRITING US OFF, YOU'RE NOT TRUE FANS IF YOU DON'T GET BEHIND THE TEAM WHEN THEY'RE 2 POINTS OFF 4TH PLACE, IN THE SEMI FINALS OF THE FA CUP AND WERE FINALISTS IN THE CARLING CUP. WE'RE ALSO UNDEFEATED IN 2010 AND HAVE THE BEST DEFENCE IN THE PREMIER LEAGUE.
THE WAY SOME OF YOU SO CALLED FANS GO ON YOU'D THINK WE WERE HAVING A BAD SEASON OR SOMETHING!!!
ALL THE REAL FANS WILL CONTINUE BACKING VILLA TIL THE END AND WE REALISE WE CAN'T WIN EVERY MATCH IN THE SAME WAY AS OTHER TEAMS DON'T.

wot did i say to all those who would listen,
Villa will be lucky to finish in the top ten
because MON refuses to use the full squad
in todays modern game you have to use more
than 16 players through out the season,
wake up MON stop playing favourites,
the 1st 11 needs freshening up
L Young, Delphonso, Delph, Sidwell, Albrighton, Beye
must be wandering what they have to do to start a match

TOTAL SH1TE VILLA.....GET A FKIN GRIP AGAINST THESE LOWER SIDES

Mohamad why dont you support the birmingham cause youve got the blues

why???????? come on villa win 4 once

Oh Dear,Villa running out of steam AGAIN as the the season comes to an end, come on Villa,Im afraid your fast running out of time for a 4th place finish, come on the boys!!

well done wolves although 2 points dropped
