    Time:90'
    • Burnley
    • Sunderland
    • 90+3 And that is the final whistle! Burnley win, three out of three at home and they rise to eighth - for now.
    • 90+1 Three minutes added time being played.
    • 90' Richardson is booked for Sunderland as the visitors get frustrated.
    • 88' Reckless tackle from Bardsley on Gudjonsson, the crowd want a red but Chris Foy shows him yellow.
    • 86' Given away by Jones, Elliott picks it up and runs from his own half, now he is on the edge of the box, Mears has it on the right, he touches it into Nugent who turns AND HE FIRES A BRILLIANT SHOT INTO THE TOP LEFT! WHAT A GOAL! What a difference a goal makes, the pre-Pompey David Nugent is back and he is quite good!
    • 85' Nugent chases it down the left, now Eagles has it but a good challenge by Turner before he can shoot.
    • 84' Almost another slick counter by Burnley but Nugent's lay-off wide right is too heavy for Eagles.
    • 83' Reid on the right shifts it from left to right and swings over a very good cross that bypasses Jones but Cana is in at the far post and he heads it back across goal but over!
    • 81' Henderson with a cross from the right but poor and out of play.
    • 79' Cana swings over a cross but out for a goal kick.
    • 77' Goal kick to Burnley, for whom a point would have been a great result but who can now close the game out for a vital three. Jensen puts it long, and Burnley win the throw off Richardson.
    • 76' Bardsley forward, to Reid on the edge of the box, he touches it to Richardson and now Cana has it and he tries to loft it wide left to McCartney but great tracking back by Eagles who sticks out a boot to poke it away.
    • 75' SUNDERLAND SUB: Henderson on for Campbell.
    • 73' Poor backpass from Ferdinand goes out for a corner. Sunderland clear it though. Rio's kid brother has had a bit of a nightmare today.
    • 72' Nugent on the right, he tries to win a corner off McCartney and unfortunately the rebound comes back off him for a goal kick. Nugent cheekily tries to point the linesman's flag towards the corner.
    • 71' Burnley and on fire now as Mears and Eagles combine, great low cross but just beyond the fading legs of Blake, he holds on to it though and Jordan could be in but cannot get the shot away and Sunderland clear.
    • 69' Eagles with more good work on the right, he came on five minutes ago and has made an immediate impact, his cross takes a huge deflection but Gordon prevents the corner.
    • 68' Burnley counter, Eagles to Mears on the right, he knocks it back to Elliott AND THAT IS A BRILLIANT CROSS AND IN FLIES NUGENT WITH THE HEADER INTO THE ROOF OF THE NET AND BURNLEY LEAD!! AND IT'S DAVID NUGENT AND HE LOOKS LIKE HE'S ABOUT TO CRY! Great goal, Sunderland reeling.
    • 67' Great play by Jones as he wriggles away from Alexander and clips in a great through ball but Carlisle gets back to poke it to Jensen who hoofs it clear.
    • 66' Elliott on the right, he cuts inside and races away from Richardson, scoops in a shot with his left but it goes over.
    • 65' A lot more even this second half with Burnley playing the possession football that got them promoted.
    • 64' Long throw takes a touch of Bikey and Jones collides with Carlisle, free-kick to Burnley in their own penalty area. BURNLEY SUB: Eagles on for Fletcher.
    • 63' Through to Jones who bustles past one man but his attempted ball to Bent takes a huge deflection to send it away for a throw wide right.
    • 62' SUNDERLAND SUB: Jones is coming on now, for Malbranque, as the Black Cats go 4-3-3.
    • 61' McCartney gets down the left but his cross is out of play.
    • 60' Another poor corner from Blake though. His delivery from wide set-plays has not been the greatest.
    • 59' Corner to Burnley now as the home fans roar them on.
    • 58' Good wingplay from Elliott on the right but McCartney is equal to him to block the cross for a throw.
    • 57' BURNLEY SUB: Nugent on for Paterson.
    • 56' Bit of head tennis now, which will suit neither side as both are footballing teams.
    • 54' Fletcher has a crack from range but well wide.
    • 53' Reid with a good piece of skill, he's on the left and swings a high ball far post which is deep but Malbranque with an excellent cut-back and Bent with a step-over AND BENT FIRES IT ON GOAL BUT A SUPER SAVE FROM JENSEN! Lovely football from Sunderland, best move of the match.
    • 52' Burnley break, free-kick after a foul by Richardson on Paterson which is taken quickly, swung left, back inside, Fletcher knocks it off to Mears who has a crack but well wide.
    • 51' Short, to Reid, who wins another throw off Fletcher who is back defending very, very deep.
    • 50' Sunderland have the ball on the left and win a throw which McCartney gets up to take.
    • 49' Poor delivery at the near post, headed clear by Turner for a throw. Old-fashioned man marking from Burnley.
    • 48' High ball in from Mears on the right which Cana heads away, now Jordan gets it on the left and wins a corner which Blake will take.
    • 47' Early corner to Sunderland which Reid will take, good delivery which comes off Fletcher and into the path of Cana but his shot is scuffed and Jensen gets down to claim! Sunderland felt that was a handball by Fletcher but that would have been very harsh, ball to hand surely.
    • 46' Second half underway!
    • - STAT ATTACK! Burnley really came back into this game after Sunderland dominated the opening, 52 per cent possession for the Black Cats, Sunderland have had two shots on target and three off while Burnley have had one on target and four off.
    • 45+3 Half-time, 1-1 and both goals from poor defending in a game that Sunderland have otherwise bossed.
    • 45+2 Swung in by Blake and Bikey is in there but it misses him and into Gordon's arms.
    • 45+1 Late from Turner on Fletcher, yellow card.
    • 45' Two minutes added time being played.
    • 44' Ferdinand shepherds it out of play for a goal kick and is convinced Paterson fouled him but nothing given.
    • 43' The ball is in the air on the edge of the Burnley D, Bikey is all over the shop and it drops to BENT WHO SHOOTS but it flies over.
    • 42' Paterson on the right, he has a crack but Ferdinand blocks.
    • 41' Elliott has a crack that Turner blocks, corner. Blake swings it in and Gudjonsson meets it but well wide.
    • 40' Burnley were convinced that was offside but Carlisle went to sleep as his team-mates stepped up. Not very clever from the man normally considered a brainbox.
    • 39' Reid on the left, he cuts inside, drifts towards the edge of the box unmarked, Burnley are standing off him and he plays in a cute through ball with the outside of his left and Bent is in, he's clean through, Burnley have just stopped with their hands in the air but not flag AND BENT SCORES! He seemed almost reluctant to finish as if an imaginary whistle had gone, but Clarke Carlisle had played him onside and it's 1-1!
    • 38' Bit of a lull in the match as Sunderland re-think their strategy. Their central midfielders are struggling to unlock a deep-lying Burnley defence heavily guarded by their midfield.
    • 36' Bikey slips and Campbell is in but the Cameroon defender is given a stay of execution as Campbell was adjudged to have fouled him.
    • 35' STILL with Sunderland, who must have had nigh-on 80 per cent of the ball but to be honest they have done very little with it beyond the edge of the penalty area.
    • 34' Long punt from Jensen but straight down the throat of his opposite number Gordon. He launches it to Malbranque but Burnley half-clear.
    • 33' Spread wide to Bent but he has no support and lacks the guile to go it alone so moves back and lets his midfield work it to the other flank but the ball is back with Jensen.
    • 32' Still with Sunderland though, Richardson with a super turn, in to Cana, but Bent but the shot is blocked and Burnley clear. Back to the incessant pressure from Sunderland now.
    • 31' Richardson to Reid, who burrows forward like a sloth and Burnley get back in numbers. He has support though, Bent and now Malbranque but eventually the move breaks down.
    • 30' Terrible delivery from the corner, out for a goal kick.
    • 29' Bikey chases Campbell down the left, Bikey tugs his shirt, no free-kick, Campbell goes down and the ref gives a corner. Even though it was a clear foul, and the ball never touched Bikey. Odd.
    • 28' BURNLEY SUB: Gudjonsson on for McCann.
    • 27' Bent is caught offside but it's bad news for Burnley - McCann has not recovered from that injury and will come off.
    • 26' Play finally restarts as Fletcher shows his strength to shield it from Reid and play it wide.
    • 25' McCann is still getting treatment, magic spray so just a knock is seems.
    • 24' Turner slides in to clear the ball from McCann but the follow through wraps around his ankle. No malice but full-blooded, the medics are on, hopefully just a knock.
    • 23' The throw is worked inside, Bardsley has got forward and he has a crack from range that goes just wide with Jensen scrambling across!
    • 22' Good defending by Mears to put it out for a throw on the left when Richardson almost got in.
    • 21' Bit of a mess for Burnley as Carlisle and Bikey make a mess of clearing a high ball and Bent is in and must score but he fires straight at the keeper!
    • 19' The Scot takes it quickly and sends Paterson clear but his shot is blocked and trickles into Gordon's arms.
    • 18' McCartney fouls Paterson, climbing all over him, on the right, Alexander to take.
    • 16' The ref calls back play for a historic offside from Bent, quite a late whistle there as Burnley had already countered and seen the move break down.
    • 15' Carlisle with an imperious leap, and McCann can clear but Richardson fouls. The home fans in good voice now.
    • 14' Sunderland launch a quick attack but the ball is poor and out for a goal kick. Sunderland have bossed the opening segment of this match but a poor defensive decision from Ferdinand has undone the good work.
    • 13' Alexander steps up to take... and he hammers it down the middle for 1-0! Totally against the run of play, Burnley are in front!
    • 11' Great ball down the right from Alexander, he releases Elliott who touches it past Ferdinand but a terrible challenge, penalty! Totally unnecessary as Elliott's touch was really heavy.
    • 10' Rare attack from Burnley as Fletcher turns McCartney on the edge of the box and he fires a shot towards goal but wide! Great improvisation from the Scot - he got on to a through ball from Carlisle on halfway.
    • 8' Cana with a great ball wide to release Campbell who gets behind Jordan and drills it low and Carlisle and Bent chase but claimed by Jensen again.
    • 7' Blake wins a free-kick and some respite for Burnley but Jordan gives it away! Cana plays it into Bent but too heavy and Jensen claims.
    • 6' Sunderland have a corner on the right taken short but Burnley get it clear. The hosts have barely left the last third, Sunderland all over them.
    • 5' Free-kick to Sunderland on the left. Taken short but the initial cross is not on for Richardson so Malbranque gets it back and swings it through to Campbell in the box, a heavy-ish touch but he can still get the shot away but blocked by McCann!
    • 4' Free-kick to Sunderland on the right but Cana's delivery is poor, flying out for a goal kick on the left.
    • 3' Malbranque with a superb reverse pass down the right to Campbell who races towards the by-line, Jordan out of position, he drills it low but Jensen dives in to parry at the near post and Elliott hacks it clear!
    • 2' Decent throw routine but McCartney's cross is a bit too deep and out for a goal kick.
    • 1' Bikey hammers it out for a throw as Bent closes him right down when initially a back pass looked on. Good chasing from the former Spurs man.
    • 1' First half underway at Turfmoor!!
    • - So Cattermole is out, the tough-tackling England U21 midfielder replaced by a different kind of player in Andy Reid. Burnley will like that I am sure.
    • - Sunderland team: Gordon, Bardsley, Ferdinand, Turner, McCartney, Malbranque, Cana, Reid, Richardson, Campbell, Bent; Subs: Carson, Nosworthy, Mensah, Henderson, Jones, Da Silva, Healy
    • - Burnley team: Jensen, Mears, Carlisle, Bikey, Jordan, Elliott, Alexander, McCann, Blake, Steven Fletcher, Paterson; Subs: Penny, McDonald, Gudjonsson, Nugent, Thompson, Guerrero, Eagles

    • - STAT ATTACK! Burnley's last win over Sunderland in the league came at Turf Moor in April 1973; Burnley have either kept a clean sheet or failed to score in their five Premier League matches; Burnley have allowed their opponents 39 shots on target - a divisional high.
