  • Live Commentary

    Time:90'
    • Everton
    • Arsenal
    • 90+3' The whistle goes, mercifully for Everton, and Arsenal have begun their season in emphtaic style.
    • 90+1' GOAL!! Everton get the most scant of consolation goals when Pienaar's shot is blocked by the legs of Almunia and Saha is there tap in the rebound.
    • 90' Three minutes of added time are announced just as Phil Neville has to get in front of Arshavin to head behind for a corner.
    • 89' GOAL!! There is still a sting in the tail at the end of this match! Arshavin toe-pokes a shot that rebounds off the far post and Eduardo is the only man moving in the box to follow up and tap in the rebound to finally mark the end of his injury nightmare.
    • 86' Alex Song has gone down holding his ankle. He gets up and hobbles off, seemingly ok.
    • 85' An Everton player has barely touched the ball in the last few minutes. Aaron Ramsey fancies a goal, but his shot was always going wide.
    • 83' You could almost hear a pin drop at Goodison now. Well, obviously not, but you get the idea. The Gunners have proved they can still silence even the most staunch of opposition crowds.
    • 81' Cahill rises to head away another Arsenal corner. The Gunners still have them pegged back in their own half.
    • 80' Saha also has an effort on the turn fly wide. The striker has looked bright since he came on under such difficult circumstances.
    • 79' Eduardo shows great instinct to fire a shot on the turn, but the effort is wide. A goal for the Croatia international would surley cap this day off for Arsenal fans.
    • 76' Sagna's header lands in front of Saha, who drills his shot just wide of the post with Almunia nowhere near it.
    • 75' Pienaar shows he's still awake by fighting past Arshavin and Eduardo to play Everton out of danger.
    • 74' Eboue takes a corner, which is headed away by Saha at the near post. Lescott chases it down but can't prevent another corner.
    • 73' Fabregas makes way for Welsh youngster Aaron Ramsey, while van Persie is replaced by Eduardo, making his first Premier LEague appearance since that horrendous leg break against Birmingham 18 months ago.
    • 71' The Arsenal captain then goes over to the bench to hold up a shirt bearing the name of Espanyol captain Dani Jarque, who died last weekend.
    • 70' GOAL!! Almunia throws the ball out and Fabregas sprints forward from his own half before firing a low strike past Howard to make it FIVE!
    • 69' Fellaini finds himself on the edge of the box and he strikes but the shot is right at Almunia.
    • 68' Fabregas bursts into the box but cahill has tracked back to help out and challenges the Arsenal skipper.
    • 67' Arshavin will take another corner. Vermaelen misse sit but everton are unable to clear.
    • 66' Rodwell tries to find fellow youngster Gosling, but the latter is crowded out by Clichy and Arshavin.
    • 63' A change for Arsenal now as the impressive Bendtner comes off for another man who has a patchy relationship with his fans, Emmanuel Eboue.
    • 62' Everton keep the pressure on and Saha lays it back to Rodwell, who blazes his shot over.
    • 61' Pienaar and Baines are standing over a dead ball on the left side of the area. Pienaar strikes it but Almunia punches away.
    • 60' Tony Hibbert has also come off to be replaced by another youngster, Dan Gosling.
    • 58' Pienaar races forward as Everton break only to be fouled in midfield. Louis Saha comes on for Osman, while Jo comes on for Jack Rodwell.
    • 57' Van Persie's corner is headed behind for another from the opposite side. This time Arshavin's delivery is headed away but the Russian has it back and Arsenal have a throw.
    • 56' Once more, Almunia comes to claim to ball unchallenged. There are a couple of Everton fans making their way towards the exit. Just a couple mind.
    • 55' Clichy gets in the way of Hibbert's cross and Everton have a corner.
    • 53' Van Persie dives in to tackle Baines and concedes the free-kick on the wing. He gives a nonchalant shrug. The set piece is caught by Almunia.
    • 52' Denilson is down holding his shoulder following a challenge. He's up soon enough and Everton have a throw.
    • 51' Depending on which side you are on, this is either an exercise in damage limitation or a chance to show some character for Everton now.
    • 50 Gael Clichy fancies his chances now, cutting inside from the left to strike, but his shot is charged down.
    • 48' GOAL!! Arsenal break forward and van Persie slips the ball intot he path of Fabregas, who casually sweeps it through the legs of Howard!
    • 47' A long throw from Everton goes in but Hibbert's toe-poked shot is blocked.
    • 47' Everton push forward from the off, but Vermaelen deals with balls in from Cahill and Hibbert.
    • 46' Arsenal kick off.
    • HT No changes at half-time as the two sides come out for the second half.
    • 45+2' Everton will be grateful to hear the half-time whistle. Arsenal go into the break with the game virtually in the bag already.
    • 45+1' Bendtner jinks inside the Everton area and lays it back for Sagna to cross... Fabregas heads wide from behind the far post.
    • 45' Cahill dinks a ball over the top but Jo can't bring it down under his control. There will be two minutes added to the half.
    • 44' It's the travelling supporters who are doing all the singing now. Denilson is almost in for a fourth but Hibbert is there to rescue the beaten Howard!
    • 42' David Moyes does not look happy on the Everton bench! His side have been undone by some elementary defensive errors when they have otherwise competed in this game.
    • 41' GOAL!! Fabregas sends the ball in and Gallas rises all alone to glance the ball past Howard!
    • 40' Another free-kick for Arsenal, this time on the opposite side.
    • 39' Baines goes flying down the flank and digs out a great ball across goal that three blue shirts just can't get a telling touch on! That could easily have gone in.
    • 37' GOAL!! Van Persie wisely chooses to loft a ball over to the far post and Thomas Vermaelen is unmarked to rise and head back across Howard and into the net!
    • 36' Leighton Baines is penalised for a foul on Bendtner. Will van Persie have another dead ball strike from distance?
    • 35' Bendtner has had a good game thus far, but his pass back to Gallas is intercepted by Jo! fortunately for the Dane, Gallas is canny enough to shepherd Jo wide and then take the ball from him.
    • 34' Arshavin lifts the ball over Howard and into the net, but the flag was already up.
    • 34' This time Fellaini heads on target and Denilson clears it off the line! Scored one, saved one lready - Denilson is doing all right thus far.
    • 33' Cahill shapes up to shoot on the edge of the box, but Vermaelen is there to clear with the Australian about to pull the trigger. The Belgian then denies Osman and concedes the corner. He then does a job once more to give Everton another set piece.
    • 32' Arshavin controls the long ball and has loads of space, but that's because he's offside.
    • 30' Arsenal are starting to play now, with Fabregas lifting a ball over two Everton players to song. The move culminates with van Persie winning a corner, but again Howard rises to catch it well.
    • 29' Arsahvin rides the challenge of Yobo and gets his cross in, but it's just too high for Bendtner.
    • 28' Van Persie takes a big run-up and he does strike, but it goes along the floor and well wide.
    • 27' Neville trips Bendtner up and Arsenal have a good dead ball opportunity here. It's too far out to shoot, but there are plenty of red shirts up there.
    • 26' GOAL!! Bendtner holds the ball up and goes past Baines. He finds Fabregas who taps the ball across to Denilson and the Brazilian unleashes a lovely curling strike that gives Howard no chance!
    • 25' Cahill slides in on Clichy, taking the ball but with his studs showing. Referee Mark Halsey gives the free-kick to Arsenal.
    • 24' Everton send a free-kick from the centre circle into the Arsenal box, and Almunia comes through the pack to catch it.
    • 23' Fellaini nicks the ball from Denilson as the Brazilian comes through midfield. This match is nicely poised with a quarter of it gone.
    • 22' A mistake by Lescott almost lets Arshavin in, but he's well supported by Hibbert and Everton survive.
    • 21' Pienaar sneaks in a ball and Cahill gets in front of Vermaelen but just can't get it under control.
    • 20' Nice build-up by Arsenal, with Van Persie and Arshavin involved, but Clichy's ball into the box is a disappointing one.
    • 19' Baines is not fooled by Bendtner's attempted trickery and clears the danger.
    • 18' Jo controls the long diagonal ball forward, but he had strayed into an offside position.
    • 17' Arsenal send men forward for a free-kick from deep. Van Persie's delivery is plucked out of the air by Howard.
    • 16' Gallas heads away Baines's cross. Arsenal are pegged back inside their own half at the moment.
    • 15' Almunia spoons Gallas's backpass into the crowd for an Everton throw, but the home side fail to make the most of it.
    • 14' Sagna looks to have run off that knock as he tackles Fellaini to concede the throw. Everton are forced back into their own half to keep possession.
    • 13' Everton head the set piece clear.Arsenal retain the ball, but eventually it comes to Howard.
    • 12' Van Persie tries to work a shot on the turn, but Yobo is across to clear for a corner.
    • 11' Baines hits the deck as Sagna powers past him, but the Frenchman does not look comfortable as he runs to chase the ball.
    • 10' Cahill goes over to challenge sagna, and the French defender goes down in some discomfort. Cahill did not go in hard on the Arsenal man, who is now holding his left thigh in pain.
    • 9' Leon Osman gets between Arshavin and the ball down by the Everton corner flag and draws a foul from the Russian. How big a player he needs to be for Arsenal this season.
    • 8' Denilson finds Bendtner with space to shoot from distance, but the ball is swiped into the crowd.
    • 7' Pienaar chests down the long ball on the run through the middle, but the flag is up for offside. That was a close call for the linesman.
    • 6' Bendtner bursts down the right and tries the one-two with van Persie, but can't quite link back up with the play inside the Everton box.
    • 4' Thomas Vermaelen is sticking tight to Everton striker Jo. Everton have a throw-in but Arsenal clear.
    • 3' Apparently Bendtner has had to shell out around £10,000 so far after promising to reimburse any fans who got his name on the back of their shirt before he changed his squad number. Really?
    • 2' A cheer goes around the ground as Lescott gives Bendtner a cheeky shove in the back as the Dane goes for a header and gets away with it.
    • 1' Everton kick off to get their new season underway!
    • 17:33 The Goodison Park crowd is in full voice even before the minute's applause for Sir Bobby Robson begins. These tributes have been held at every Premier League ground today.
    • 17:30 On the other hand, Everton have scored once in each of their last six Premier League home games against Arsenal.
    • 17:30 Arsenal are also unbeaten in their last 12 Premier League away games.
    • 17:29 The teams are coming out on to the Goodison Park pitch now. The Gunners are traditionally strong starters in the Premier League, having won 11 on the opening day, more than any other side.
    • 17:24 Everton fans - do you think its time for Everton to cash in on Joleon Lescott, or is David Moyes right to tell Man City where to go? Let us know your thoughts by posting a comment below.

  9. Sad loss for Everton. Based on this game, they might be consigned to mid-table. Moyes is my favorite manager too, but they're giving him too little and expecting too much.

  18. Congratulations to Arsernal and her fans. As an Arsernal fan, I hope that this is a sign of good things to come this season. However I caution that while we celebrate we should not be carried away by this score line and the fact that it is only day 1 of the Priemiership. Hopefully also they should ride on this momentum to ease past Celtics. We have endured a lot of uncomplimentary jibes in the last few seasons, I pray that at least they should give us more cause be happy come May 2010.
