  • Live Commentary

    Time:90'
    • Liverpool
    • West Ham United
    • 90+3 That's the final whistle, Liverpool win easily enough, West Ham are poor and still in the fight of their lives.
    • 90+1 Behrami has a pop from 30 yards that whistles wide and raises a semi-ironic cheer from the West Ham fans still hanging around.
    • 90' Corner Liverpool won on the right by Maxi, who has looked more like his old self tonight.
    • 89' Three minutes added time will be played, well providing the fourth official Phil Dowd's signal to Walton was about time and not how many lamb bhunas he wants for dinner afterwards.
    • 88' Both sides are going through the motions as the fight-free West Ham look to turn their attentions on their next three matches, all more winnable to be fair.
    • 85' Degen puts in a good cross but Da Costa heads clear.
    • 82' LIVERPOOL SUB: NGog off to rapturous applause, Babel on.
    • 81' Kuyt robs Faubert but Da Costa with a great tackle saves him. Deggen is in though and Faubert in his haste takes him out. Yellow.
    • 80' WEST HAM SUB: Daprela on for Spector.
    • 79' Corner to Liverpool on the left which Deggen will take... blocked but he gets it back and puts in a super near-post ball that Green does really well to tip away, holding on to the loose ball.
    • 77' LIVERPOOL SUB: Deggen on for Benayoun.
    • 76' Deggen is warming up for a rare appearance.
    • 74' Agger tries it with his right, his left is much better and it shows: row Z of the Kop.
    • 72' WEST HAM SUB: McCarthy on for Cole.
    • 71' LIVERPOOL SUB: Mascherano on for Gerrard.
    • 70' Gerrard down the right pumps in a superb cross but Da Costa heads away. He has had a half-decent game really - it's the midfield who have been abject, not at all competitive.
    • 68' Noble handballs. West Ham have barely bothered in this second half, and they weren't much better in the first!
    • 67' Cole could be in for West Ham but Reina rushes out to smother the finish with his chest.
    • 66' The crowd cheer as Noble slides in on Gerrard, who backheels it around the tackle without moving his head.
    • 65' Kovac is booked for putting his arm on the ref after he gives a free-kick to Liverpool. A tiny tiny shove, lucky not to see red to be honest.
    • 64' Benayoun gets in through the middle but Upson and Da Costa get back to close him off. Great ball from Gerrard initially but the Hammers midfield are AWOL.
    • 63' The corner is half-cleared but Maxi robs Behrami and zips in on the right, good low ball but Upson blocks.
    • 62' Great play by Liverpool as they slice West Ham apart on the right, Gerrard pulls the trigger but a super saving tackle by Da Costa blocks for a corner.
    • 59' Kyrgiakos would like to claim that but his shot wouldn't have gone in had Green not been caught cold by the rebound.
    • 58' 3-0, Green own goal but not his fault. Wicked ball from Gerrard, West Ham again defending like schoolboys moving up too high and Kyrgiakos stuck out a boot - it came off the post and hit Green to go in.
    • 57' Free-kick Liverpool on the left, everyone comes up for it...
    • 54' Gerrard now with a foul on Kovac. Not much to this second half so far, Franco's barely touched the ball.
    • 53' Benayoun and Gerrard look bemused after a move breaks down.
    • 52' Good run by NGog but the flag is up.
    • 50' Good pressure Liverpool as Kuyt finds Agger, he tries a hammer shot but it smacks NGog as he tried to get out of the way.
    • 48' Reina flies out to palm the ball away from Franco as his defenders failed to deal with it. Quick thinking from the Spaniard.
    • 46'
    • - WEST HAM SUB: Franco on for Stanislas.
    • 45+1 Half-time, Liverpool lead 2-0 and West Ham barely look a team, let alone a Premier League team.
    • 45' One minute added time as Liverpool camp in West Ham's half...
    • 44' NGog on the left gets into the box and Behrami trips him, surely a penalty? No! Nothing given. Hmmm. The ref is Peter Walton, the same ref who awarded NGog a penalty for a clear dive against Birmingham. Maybe it played on his mind.
    • 42' Kyrgiakos is cool under minimal pressure to bring the ball out. A long ball is met by Da Costa, under pressure and playing it straight to Kuyt who drives low and tipped behind for a corner by Green!
    • 41' Gerrard on the right dips a clever little cross near post but Da Costa heads away.
    • 39' Johnson swings the ball right to left where Kuyt is placed to head it into the danger area AND NGOG but he can't connect properly with the header, whcih swings away from goal to safety!
    • 38' Gerrard to take and he smashes it over the wall but just over the bar!
    • 37' Liverpool have a free-kick around 25 yards out....
    • 35' Liverpool make around 20 passes before giving it away.
    • 34' Liverpool content to stroke it around the back patiently. This game was arguably always theirs to lose and I can't see that happening now.
    • 33' Cole takes it off Maxi, who stays down, play-on says the ref and Cole's power takes him beyond the Liverpool midfield and he drills it low from the edge of the box but a yard wide! Reina had it covered.
    • 31' Behrami fouls Kuyt. West Ham look poor to be honest - Parker is the man for them and they're being outnumbered in midfield.
    • 29' 2-0! NGog! Super finish in off Green after Maxi popped a first-time ball from the right that NGog beat Upson to faaaaar too easily. Benayoun initiated the move with a driving run across the box.
    • 28' Agger gets caught out, Stanislas races away down the right, he's in loads of space but no-one moves for the near post and his cross is gobbled up by Reina.
    • 27' Gerrard whips it in, super ball and Da Costa misses it and Upson stumbles AND KYRGIAKOS MUST SCORE BUT HE HEADS IT INTO THE GROUND AND OVER! How did he miss that? Free header!
    • 26' Liverpool keep the ball for a good minute as Johnson is released on the right but Behrami chases him down and it's a corner to Liverpool.
    • 24' Slightly to the left and Stanislas puts it very high, well over, poor.
    • 23' West Ham have a free-kick aftre Behrami is caught by Lucas 30 yards out. Stanislas wants it...
    • 21' Cole chests a high one on the edge of the box, turns inside and has a crack but Reina holds on easily enough.
    • 20' Benayoun refuses to celebrate - it is his former club after all - and motions to his chest. Definitely not a handball, which West Ham are claiming. Poor defending, really poor.
    • 19' Quick delivery from Gerrard catches West Ham out, Benayoun ghosts in and knocks it in with his gut for 1-0! In off the left-hand post.
    • 18' Spector clatters into Maxi again and Liverpool have a free-kick. Gerrard to take...
    • 17' Gerrard gives the ball away, Behrami comes forward, this is promising, he feeds Ilan, wide to Stanislas who is in on the right but inexplicably plays it behind Ilan and Kyrgiakos clears! What a terrible waste.
    • 16' Stanislas on the right looks back to Faubert but his looping cross is poor and easy for Reina.
    • 15' West Ham have a short spell with the ball but Stanislas gives it away. Pretty bitty and disjointed so far.
    • 14' Gerrard swings the corner in, it comes off one of a bunch of heads, the ball flies far post with NGog waiting but Kovac puts him off and the young striker heads well over.
    • 13' Da Costa nods behind for a corner after a good passage of play for Liverpool.
    • 11' Lucas gives the ball away... now Behrami spins off Gerrard, Liverpool half clear but Stanislas on the right wins a throw. Still with the Hammers.
    • 10' Good touch by Ilan, Cole falls ahead of him though. Back to Noble, now Stanislas on the right but he doesn't exchange passes with Kovac and it rolls out.
    • 9' Stray pass from Kuyt out for a West Ham throw. Faubert looks backwards to his defenders.
    • 8' First Faubert then Stanislas try crosses but Kyrgiakos is well placed to clear.
    • 7' Benayoun glides inside to find Kuyt, he looks to Gerrard. Liverpool eventually win a free-kick on the right... Gerrard has it, he plays in a super cross AND GREEN FLAPS AWFULLY BUT BEYOND KUYT AND KYRGIAKOS AND WIDE! Comedy keeping from Green, but Kuyt couldn't get there!
    • 6' Carragher puts a superb long ball right centre, NGog has stayed onside and he is in but a poor decision to try and head towards goal from the edge of the box means Green can claim easily. He had time to take that on his chest or let it drop and volley.
    • 5' Aimless ball forward from Faubert after the Hammers held on to the ball well for a period. Reina has time to weigh up his options.
    • 4' Faubert intercepts a stray pass from Lucas in what I reckon is their first touch of the ball in open play, keeper aside.
    • 3' Benayoun inside to Maxi after a super little run and weighted pass, Maxi smashes it towards goal and Green saves well at his near post.
    • 2' Liverpool start with a decent spell of possession, West Ham sitting deep as Spector chases down Maxi on the right wing.
    • 1' A somewhat muted "You'll never walk alone" precedes kick off, Liverpool kicking right to left, West Ham in their dark away shirts.
    • - The teams take the pitch and the Reds fans are waving "for sale" banners in delight at the decision of unpopular America duo George Gillett and Tom Hicks to sell the club.
    • - Understandably given their recent resurgence West Ham keep the game tight with no changes. Scott Parker is still banned so Kovac continues, while Mido is back on the bench after being dropped for the win against Sunderland.
    • - In case you've been under a rock for the past two days, there is no Torres because he is out for the season after having a knee op. World Cup is 50-50. Not ideal... Otherwise Kyrgiakos is in and NGog leads the line - Kuyt, it seems, will always be a winger to Benitez. Babel is on the bench, as is Mascherano, rested as Gerrard drops deeper. Two ex-Hammers in the XI: Johnson and Benayoun.
    • - Referee: Peter Walton (Northamptonshire)
    • - WEST HAM TEAM: Green, Faubert, da Costa, Upson, Spector, Behrami, Kovac, Noble, Stanislas, Cole, Ilan; Subs: Kurucz, Gabbidon, Franco, Mido, McCarthy, Diamanti, Daprela
    • - LIVERPOOL TEAM: Reina, Johnson, Carragher, Kyrgiakos, Agger, Maxi, Gerrard, Lucas, Benayoun, Kuyt, Ngog; Subs: Cavalieri, Aquilani, Babel, Mascherano, Degen, El Zhar, Ayala
    • - FACT: Liverpool have hit the woodwork 16 times in the Premier League this season, more than any other side.
    • - FACT: The Hammers have averaged 1.29 goals per game in the league this season when Scott Parker has been playing, compared to one per game without him.
    • - FACT: Four of West Ham’s last seven league goals have come in the 87th minute or later.
    • - FACT: Eight of the Merseysiders’ last 10 league goals have been either scored (six) or assisted (two) by Fernando Torres.
    • - FACT: The Hammers have conceded at least two goals in each of their last five away games.
    • - FACT: West Ham have not won away since the opening day of the season, at Wolves.
    • - FACT: Liverpool have conceded only two goals in their last eight league games at Anfield.
    • - FACT: Three of the four points West Ham have gleaned at Anfield have come in 0-0 draws.
    • - FACT: The Hammers have scored just four goals in 14 Premier League trips to Anfield, the lowest goals per game ratio of any team to have played there 10 times in the competition.
    • - FACT: Liverpool have won nine and drawn one of their last 11 Premier League encounters with West Ham United.
    • - West Ham need all the help they can get in their fight against the drop, although realistically there are other upcoming games they have a greater chance of winning: a couple of good recent results have done them the world of good. They are three points and one place above the drop zone.
    • - Liverpool HAVE to win or their slim hopes of fourth place are over. They are seventh and a win puts them five points off Spurs in fourth and three off City: both have games in hand, so they'll need them to fall apart too.
    • - Liverpool host West Ham in a Premier League clash that means a lot to both sides - from 8pm UK time.
