Stoke City picked up where they left off on the opening day of the season, defeating Premier League new boys Burnley 2-0. More
90 FULL TIME Stoke City win 2-0 against Burnley. Ryan Shawcross headed the Potters into the lead and Stephen Jordan put the ball into his own net before half-time.
90 Cresswell almost makes it 3-0 in injury time but his shot across goal sneaks wide of the far post.
87 Ricardo Fuller gets a standing ovation when being replaced by Richard Cresswell.
79 Dave Kitson - still waiting for his first Stoke goal - controls neatly in the box, turns and sees his rising effort strike the top of the bar. Very unlucky.
77 Sorensen flaps at a cross from the left and Shawcross is very fortunate to see the ball bounce off his thigh and wide, rather than into his own net.
75 Etherington is replaced by Republic of Ireland international Glenn Whelan as Pulis makes his second change.
71 Fernando Guerrero makes his debut for Burnley as he and Chris Eagles replace Robbie Blake and Martin Paterson.
67 James Beattie has had precious little impact today and he is replaced by Dave Kitson.
66 Jordan is booked for a poor challenge, hacking down Matty Etherington as he bore down on goal. Beattie wastes the free-kick though.
65 Steven Fletcher finds space in the box and unleashes a fierce shot, but Sorensen gets a palm to the ball and turns it away.
60 Burnley's Graham Alexander is booked for dissent.
54 Abdoulaye Faye is booked for a flying tackle in which he connected with the boot of his man as he cleared the ball. Ouch.
46 KICK OFF Stoke get the game back underway.
45 HALF TIME The home crowd at the Britannia Stadium are delighted thanks to a header from Shawcross and an own goal from Jordan.
43 Stoke go close to claiming a third when Ricardo Fuller gets his head to a Higginbotham cross, sending the ball looping over Jensen who had rushed out to find himself in no man's land. Clarke Carlisle did superbly to clear off the line though.
33 GOAL FOR STOKE! Rory Delap claims his first assist of the season when he hurls in a throw from the right, the ball bouncing off the luckless Stephen Jordan and past his own keeper.
19 GOAL FOR STOKE! Ryan Shawcross heads the Potters in front as he rises at the back-post to meet a Liam Lawrence free-kick and heads back across goal and past Brian Jensen.
17 James Beattie is ruled offside. Beattie scored seven goals in 16 matches for Stoke after joining the club last winter, meaning he is the equal-highest scorer in the division in 2009 amongst non-Big Four clubs – level with Chris Brunt who also got seven for West Brom.
90 Cresswell almost makes it 3-0 in injury time but his shot across goal sneaks wide of the far post.

not a classic game by any means but 3 points is what counts.not an easy game for the fans to get fired up about but i reckon we did enough. bit worried for burnley though they froze at the back every time we put them under pressure, i reckon they are in for a tough season, good luck to em though and their fans who did their best to rally their team. cheers paulm

good 3 points for Stoke. Although the result was never in any real doubt. I fully expect us to take something out of every game we play at home this season. Ipmrove our away record and we could be looking at top 10 finish. There will be goals from Fuller and Beattie for certain, with Lawrence and Etherington adding a few and obviously the likes of Shawcross and Faye chipping in some headers from set pieces. Add to this goal threat with the hopeful return of Sidibe, pray for Kitson to show why we payed 5 million for him, and some new recruits before the deadline and the futures bright for the Potters.
