    • Burnley
    • 90 FULL TIME Stoke City win 2-0 against Burnley. Ryan Shawcross headed the Potters into the lead and Stephen Jordan put the ball into his own net before half-time.
    • 90 Cresswell almost makes it 3-0 in injury time but his shot across goal sneaks wide of the far post.
    • 89 With just seconds remaining, Stoke are playing keep-ball and waiting for the final whistle.
    • 87 Ricardo Fuller gets a standing ovation when being replaced by Richard Cresswell.
    • 86 Mears is chopped down by a strong challenge but it was fair, and the Burnley player is not amused, to say the least.
    • 85 Glenn Whelan attemps an audacious volley from 20 yards but cannot hit the target with his ballooned effort.
    • 84 CLarke Carlisle blocks a cross from the right and the ball bounces up to strike him on the arm, but it was never a penalty.
    • 79 Dave Kitson - still waiting for his first Stoke goal - controls neatly in the box, turns and sees his rising effort strike the top of the bar. Very unlucky.
    • 77 Sorensen flaps at a cross from the left and Shawcross is very fortunate to see the ball bounce off his thigh and wide, rather than into his own net.
    • 75 Etherington is replaced by Republic of Ireland international Glenn Whelan as Pulis makes his second change.
    • 74 Chris Eagles floats in a corner from the right but Stoke clear with ease. The game is well and truly slipping away from Burnley at present.
    • 71 Fernando Guerrero makes his debut for Burnley as he and Chris Eagles replace Robbie Blake and Martin Paterson.
    • 67 Sorensen comes to claim a Robbie Blake cross as Burnley continue to threaten. Still no goal though.
    • 67 James Beattie has had precious little impact today and he is replaced by Dave Kitson.
    • 66 Jordan is booked for a poor challenge, hacking down Matty Etherington as he bore down on goal. Beattie wastes the free-kick though.
    • 65 Steven Fletcher finds space in the box and unleashes a fierce shot, but Sorensen gets a palm to the ball and turns it away.
    • 63 Sorensen is untroubled by a poor effort from Fletcher as he lifts the ball high over the bar.
    • 61 Rory Delap gives away a free-kick and Robbie Blake drives the set-piece low along the floor. Sorensen gets his fingers to it and is absolutely furious, probably with his wall for allowing the ball to sneak through.
    • 60 Burnley's Graham Alexander is booked for dissent.
    • 59 Another Delap throw floats into the box but Beattie fails to get the necessary contact to test Jensen.
    • 58 There is a good old fashioned goalmouth scramble in the Stoke box but two efforts from Burnley are blocked and the home side clear.
    • 57 Faye pushes his luck with a thunderous challenge on Tyrone Mears. There was a hint of the two-footed about that but the Stoke man escapes a second booking, claiming that Mears dived.
    • 54 Abdoulaye Faye is booked for a flying tackle in which he connected with the boot of his man as he cleared the ball. Ouch.
    • 52 Liam Lawrence cuts in from the right and jinks past two players but his shot just dribbles into the arms of Jensen. That was a poor effort from the edge of the box.
    • 51 Clarke Carlisle has been solid for Burnley today and he produces a crucial clearing header at the back post.
    • 50 The ball finds James Beattie at the back post but he fails to direct his shot on target from a tight angle.
    • 49 Burnley have started very well and, let's be honest, they had to. But for all their endeavour, Sorensen still hasn't had to make many saves.
    • 47 Wade Elliot shows some positive intent at the start of the second half as he rifles a shot at goal, his effort brushing the top of the net.
    • 46 KICK OFF Stoke get the game back underway.
    • - Right the teams are back out and the camera is focusing on poor old Jordan after his own goal. Welcome to the Premier League son.
    • - Thanks for the comment Andy: "as a Millwall fan i have to say I hope Stoke win as many games as possible the Stoke crowd is worth a goal a game well done Stoke for being the loudest fans and sticking it up the others" The Britannia Stadium is certainly one of the more daunting places to visit in the top flight and many a good side will struggle there in the coming months.
    • 45 HALF TIME The home crowd at the Britannia Stadium are delighted thanks to a header from Shawcross and an own goal from Jordan.
    • 43 Stoke go close to claiming a third when Ricardo Fuller gets his head to a Higginbotham cross, sending the ball looping over Jensen who had rushed out to find himself in no man's land. Clarke Carlisle did superbly to clear off the line though.
    • 40 Burnley threaten through Clark Carlisle but Sorensen is untroubled.
    • 39 Stoke have a succession of corners but Burnley are equal to the task and clear.
    • 37 It is Blake who takes it and the forward sends his effort flying a metre over the bar. Disappointing.
    • 36 James Beattie produces a crunching tackle on Robbie Blake and Burnley line up a free-kick from a central area.
    • 33 GOAL FOR STOKE! Rory Delap claims his first assist of the season when he hurls in a throw from the right, the ball bouncing off the luckless Stephen Jordan and past his own keeper.
    • 32 Matty Etherington wins a throw with a deflected shot.
    • 28 Wade Elliot recieves the ball in the box and his effort from close range is deflected over for a corner.
    • 27 Danny Higginbotham bursts down the left and swings in a cross for Stoke but Jensen leaps to catch. We are still lacking any decent chances here, the goal aside of course.
    • 25 Burnley chip a free-kick into the box but it is far too close to Sorensen and he catches with ease.
    • 23 Shawcross is a giant guy but he was pretty much unmarked for the goal. That was sloppy from Burnley. They come into the Premier League with a reputation for attacking football but will they have the same defensive fragility that undermined West Brom?
    • 19 GOAL FOR STOKE! Ryan Shawcross heads the Potters in front as he rises at the back-post to meet a Liam Lawrence free-kick and heads back across goal and past Brian Jensen.
    • 17 Robbie Blake has the first shot on target as he tests Sorensen with a curling effort.
    • 17 James Beattie is ruled offside. Beattie scored seven goals in 16 matches for Stoke after joining the club last winter, meaning he is the equal-highest scorer in the division in 2009 amongst non-Big Four clubs – level with Chris Brunt who also got seven for West Brom.
    • 15 Thomas Sorensen is chased down by Steven Fletcher but the keeper shows a bit of style by jinking around the striker. Risky business but we like it.
    • 13 Rory Delap just keeps on hurling those throws into the box but Burnley are coping a lot better than Arsenal did last season.
    • 9 Now Delap takes aim from 20 yards and lifts his shot high, high into the stands. That was a truly horrible effort.
    • 8 Robbie Blake has a shot blocked for Burnley, that looked a good opening for the Clarets.
    • 7 Another Delap throw soars into the box and Burnley look to have conceded a corner, but a goalkick is awarded.
    • 6 Steven Fletcher, a summer signing from Hibernian, has a shot for Burnley but his effort lacks direction or pace.
    • 5 Rory Delap is unleashing that ridiculous throw of his. Burnley are untroubled on this occasions though.
    • 3 It has been a largely uneventful start here with a lot of aerial balls. That is no surprise at Stoke though.
    • 1 KICK OFF! We are underway...
    • - We have a minute's applause for Sir Bobby Robson, a nice touch.
    • - The teams are emerging from the tunnel, here we go...
    • - A little stat for you prior to kick-off: Stoke City and Burnley have met 88 times in the league. Stoke City have won 38, Burnley 31 and there have been 19 draws.
    • - We are just minutes from kick-off at Stoke, I can't stand the excitement!
    • - The first day of the season is always a special one - like your birthday or Christmas. You just can't beat it. Will anyone do a Ravanelli and score a hat-trick on debut? Will we see an outrageous goal from the halfway line a la David Beckham? Probably not, but you never know...
    • - Stoke's formidable home record was key to their success last season (well that and Rory Delap's freaky arms) and 35 of their 45 points came at the Britannia. Can Burnley, the 43rd different team to play in the Premier League, get anything from today's game?
    • - Stoke's side has a very settled look about it but Dean Whitehead makes his full debut following his summer move from Sunderland. Meanwhile, Owen Coyle hands debuts to Tyrone Mears and Steven Fletcher, with fellow new signings Richard Eckersley and Fernando Guerrero on the bench.
    • - The teams are in : Stoke: Sorensen, Wilkinson, Abdoulaye Faye, Shawcross, Higginbotham, Lawrence, Delap, Whitehead, Etherington, Beattie, Fuller Subs: Simonsen, Griffin, Cort, Whelan, Kitson, Pugh, Cresswell Burnley: Jensen, Mears, Carlisle, Jordan, Kalvenes, Alexander, Paterson, Elliott, McCann, Blake, Steven Fletcher Subs: Penny, McDonald, Gudjonsson, Eckersley, Thompson, Guerrero, Eagles
    • - Welcome to our live coverage of Stoke v Burnley on the first day of the Premier League season. The Britannia Stadium plays host to a match between last season's surprise package and a team looking to emulate that success.
  • Summary

    • 90 Cresswell almost makes it 3-0 in injury time but his shot across goal sneaks wide of the far post.

  2. good 3 points for Stoke. Although the result was never in any real doubt. I fully expect us to take something out of every game we play at home this season. Ipmrove our away record and we could be looking at top 10 finish. There will be goals from Fuller and Beattie for certain, with Lawrence and Etherington adding a few and obviously the likes of Shawcross and Faye chipping in some headers from set pieces. Add to this goal threat with the hopeful return of Sidibe, pray for Kitson to show why we payed 5 million for him, and some new recruits before the deadline and the futures bright for the Potters.
