    Time:90'
    • Tottenham Hotspur
    • Manchester United
    • 90+4' There's the final whistle, and in the end Manchester United proved just too strong for Spurs, who could not hold on to their early lead.
    • 90+3' More good defending from Bassong, this time denying Carrick a sight of goal.
    • 90+2' Bassong saves Spurs further pain with a good block from a Rooney shot.
    • 90+1' Four minutes of stoppage time will be played.
    • 89' The pace has slowed and there are a lot of tired legs after a frenetic game. Vidic heads easily back to Ben Foster.
    • 87' United are now dealing relatively easily with the Tottenham attacks, and the fans are starting to file out of the ground.
    • 85' Fletcher strikes from long range, forcing a good save from Cudicini, then Rooney tests the Italian.
    • 83' United are looking to play the ball around and take the sting out of the game, and you have to say theyare doing a very good job of it.
    • 81' Manchester United change: Nani replaces the goalscorer Anderson.
    • 80' Harry Redknapp looks like a man who knows the game is up. Even against 10 men, it is a tough ask for Spurs.
    • 78' GOAL!!! Wayne Rooney scores for Manchester United and now the champions have some insurance! United break, and with both Spurs centre-backs upfield, Rooney cuts past Hutton and nutmegs Cudicini! Fine finish.
    • 78' Foster makes a decent catch and now United come away on the break...
    • 77' Vidic and Crouch collide again... the free-kick goes to Tottenham this way and now it is Vidic's turn to look aggrieved.
    • 76' Evra attempts a little Ronaldo-esque jig on the ball but succeeds only in sending the ball out of play.
    • 75' Crouch wants a penalty after a tangle in the box with John O'Shea, but the decision goes United's way! The Spurs striker is not happy about that one.
    • 73' Another yellow card, this time to Jenas for a shove on Giggs.
    • 72' Niko Kranjcar makes his Tottenham debut, coming on for Robbie Keane.
    • 71' Evra accelerates away from Hutton and attempts a Geoff Hurst 'They think it's all over' finish, but hits the side netting.
    • 70' United do not look like they are playing with 10 men - this is still a very even game.
    • 69' Tottenham change: Alan Hutton replaces Vedran Corluka, who we can only assume is carrying a knock.
    • 67' The corner comes to nothing and now it is Tottenha's turn to attack with pace. A tremendous game, this.
    • 66' ROONEY!!! He cuts inside from the left and shoots low for the bottom-left corner, but Cudicini makes a brilliant save and the ball goes out for a corner via the bar!! Great counter-attack from United.
    • 64' Crouch is penalised for a high foot - it was the level of Evra's face, but his own waist...
    • 63' Manchester United change: Michael Carrick replaces Dimitar Berbatov. Boos all-round for the two ex-Spurs men.
    • 62' Lennon fires a low shot from the right towards the near post, but Foster makes a comfortable save.
    • 61' Rooney is played through but an dubious offside flag goes up... in any case Cudicini saves.
    • 60' That was just ridiculous from Scholes... We can definitively state he will never learn.
    • 59' SCHOLES IS OFF!!! He picks up the ninth red card of his career for a crazy late challenge on Huddlestone in which he nearly kicks the Spurs man in the face!
    • 58' This game is still very open and you have to imagine there will be more goals in it.
    • 56' CROUCH!!! He meets the corner with a towering header, but the ball grazes the top of the barand goes over! Too tall...
    • 55' JENAS!! Makes half a yard of space and curls a 20-yard shot towards the top-right corner, but Foster denies him with a brilliant save!
    • 53' Giggs rolls back the years, swerving inside and outside his man... but the ball comes off the Welshman and goes out for a corner.
    • 52' Another yellow card; this time Ledley King is the villain.
    • 51' If Paul Scholes hasn't trademarked those late, wild tackles he really ought to consider it. Yellow card for the midfielder.
    • 50' Tottenham have started the second half with a decent amount of possession....
    • 48' Huddlestone takes the Tottenham corner but Vidic rises highest to head it clear.
    • 47' KEANE!! Spurs nearly on terms as Jenas middles from the left and the Irishman's effort is deflected over!
    • 46' United kick off the second half. It should be a belter.
    • 46' Half-time change: Jermaine Jenas replaces Wilson Palacios, who was skating on thin ice.
    • 45+2' Vidic continues to argue with Crouch, and is now having a go at Defoe. Anyway, it is now half-time and a chance for everyone to cool off for a few minutes.
    • 45' Yellow card Nemanja Vidic for an unnecessary challenge on Peter Crouch.
    • 44' That may be what separates the top four from the likes of Tottenham. If Chelsea went one up in the first minute, you'd struggle to get back in the game - but Tottenham have not defended their lead well and United probably deserve to be in front.
    • 42' Anderson had a machine-gun celebration ready - that one clearly two years and 78 games in the making...
    • 41' GOAL!!! ANDERSON!!! Smashes a low shot in from the edge of the box and that is his first goal for Manchester United!!
    • 40' Giggs sends over a hopeful cross from the left and Assou-Ekotto takes the safety-first option of putting it behind for a corner.
    • 38' Now Keane fouls Scholes. This constant niggle is disrupting the flow of the game.
    • 37' Rooney fouls Corluka. Plenty of fouls going in - 13 in the first 38 minutes.
    • 36' Fletcher keeps chipping away at the ref and is lucky not to talk his way into the book.
    • 35' Rooney bursts through the Spuras back line, but play has already been brought back for a Fletcher foul on Palacios. United aren't happy.
    • 33' In comes the corner and Crouch so nearly forces it in from close range!
    • 32' Lennon appears to be brought down at the edge of the box but the referee plays advantage and Spurs end up with just a corner!
    • 30' So close United!! Rooney's close range effort is parried by Cudicini, Berbatov hits the rebound and Bassong clears it off the line, then Berbatov sends a second rebound over the bar!
    • 29' The ball is half-cleared to Huddlestone, who attempts an ambitious left-footed volley... whistles high over the bar!
    • 28' BERBATOV!!! Chests the ball down and hits an powerful left-footed half-volley from the edge of the box! Cudicini palms it over for a corner.
    • 27' Derision rains down off the terraces as Patrice Evra claims he is impeded but referee Marriner awards a goal kick to Spurs.
    • 26' This game has been graced by a couple of brilliant goals from Jermain Defoe and Ryan Giggs.
    • 25' GOAL!!!! UNITED ARE LEVEL!! Ryan Giggs whips in a peach of a free-kick, sending it into the top-right corner beyond the outstretched hand of Cudicini. Superb strike.
    • 24' Palacios is in the book for yet another foul on Berbatov. You have to say that was coming.
    • 22' Crouch plays the ball in front of goal for Defoe, but the scorer has strayed a couple of yards offside.
    • 20' Evra fouls Lennon, and that inevitably gets the crowd going. The Frenchman is not the most popular character after that spat with Corluka.
    • 18' A bit of a lull here, with the ball ricocheting around the central third of the pitch.
    • 16' Referee Andre Marriner has to step into defuse a situation between Evra and Corluka here... a bit of a fuss about nothing really and once again the ref keeps his cards in his pocket.
    • 15' Giggs curls in the free-kick and Berbatov glances it goalwards... well saved by Cudicini!!
    • 14' Palacios goes late through the back of Berbatov. United want a booking, but the Honduran escapes with a ticking-off.
    • 13' Crouch tries a volley from the edge of the box... but it is straight at Foster.
    • 12' Alex Ferguson looks concerned. Even with Robbie Keane on the wing, Tottenham appear to have too much strength in mdifield, particularly in the imposing form of Wilson Palacios.
    • 11' Scholes is tripped in midfield and that could give United a moment to gather themselves and get a foothold in this game.
    • 9' The visitors are not keeping possession well and at the moment the home team are bossing the game.
    • 8' White Hart Lane is in full voice as you would expect. A two-goal win would take them back above Chelsea to the top of the Premier League.
    • 7' CROUCH!! Chests down a long clearance, swivels and shoots!! The ball dips several yards over, though.
    • 6' Rooney strays offside and Spurs will look to boot the ball away.
    • 5' Just so you know, Jermain Defoe's middle name is Colin. Colin. And we clocked that opening goal at 47 seconds.
    • 4' FLETCHER!!! He seizes on a loose ball on the right side of the box, shrugs off Assou-Ekotto and brings a brilliant save from Cudicini! What a start!
    • 3' Can United respond? Berbatov backheels into the path of Scholes who tries his luck from distance, but drags his shot well wide.
    • 2' What a start by Tottenham! Defoe is the hottest striker in English football and he has scored a beauty!
    • 1' GOAL!! JERMAIN DEFOE SCORES IN THE FIRST MINUTE!!! A stunning overhead kick! Assou-Ekotto's diagonal cross is headed into the in-form striker's path and he smashes the ball in!!
    • 1' Tottenham kick off, playing from right to left in white shirts, navy shorts and white socks. United are in red shirts, white shorts and black socks.
    • - The teams come out to a tremendous ovation in the late afternoon at White Hart Lane!
    • - There was some real excitement in the three o'clock kick-offs. Emmanuel Adebayor scored as Manchester City beat Arsenal 4-2, Florent Malouda hit a stoppage time winner for Chelsea at Stoke, and Yossi Benayoun scored a hat-trick for Liverpool against Burnley. Premier League scores and scorers
    • - Ryan Giggs makes his 700th start for Manchester United today, and Alex Ferguson wants his 750th win as manager.
    • - Rio Ferdinand is back for Manchester United, and the ever-intriguing midfield selection sees Fletcher, Scholes, Anderson and Giggs get the nod.
    • - A selection gamble from Harry Redknapp, then, playing all three of Robbie Keane, Jermain Defoe and Peter Crouch. With no Niko Kranjcar, the most likely formation is Keane on the left, with Defoe and Crouch up front - but we will see.
    • - TEAMS: TOTTENHAM: Cudicini, Corluka, King, Bassong, Assou-Ekotto, Lennon, Huddlestone, Palacios, Defoe, Crouch, Keane... Subs: Gomes, Hutton, Bentley, Jenas, Pavlyuchenko, Naughton, Kranjcar... MAN UTD: Foster, O'Shea, Ferdinand, Vidic, Evra, Fletcher, Scholes, Anderson, Giggs, Berbatov, Rooney... Subs: Kuszczak, Owen, Carrick, Nani, Fabio Da Silva, Jonathan Evans, Valencia... Referee: Andre Marriner (W Midlands)
    • - Wayne Rooney has scored four goals in his last four Premier League matches against Tottenham, including two in Manchester United's 5-2 home win in their last meeting on April 25. He made his Premier League debut against Spurs - in Everton's 2-2 home draw on August 17, 2002.
    • - Manchester United's last seven Premier League goals have all come in the second half of matches. In total, they have not conceded a goal in the second half of their last 11 Premier League matches going back five months since Sunderland scored in United's 2-1 win at the Stadium of Light on April 11.
    • - Jermain Defoe has scored seven goals in seven appearances for club and country this season, averaging a goal every 67 minutes he is on the pitch.
    • - Harry Redknapp is unbeaten in all five Premier League home matches against 'Big Four' opposition since he took charge of Tottenham, winning three and drawing two.
    • - Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United have met 144 times in the league. Tottenham Hotspur have won 35, Manchester United 71 and there have been 38 draws.
  • Summary

    • 85' Fletcher strikes from long range, forcing a good save from Cudicini, then Rooney tests the Italian.
