  • Live Commentary

    Time:90'
    • Wigan Athletic
    • Sunderland
    • 90+1' And Kirkland fumbles the corner but manages to jump on the loose ball before anyone can get a toe on it
    • 90' Zenden's first contribution is a chance from the edge of the box but his effort is deflected over by Melchiot. Corner for Sunderland
    • 85' Healy and Zenden are on for Da Silva and McCartney. Last throw of the dice for Sunderland
    • 85' Lorik Cana has a headed chance from the edge of the six-yard-box but he puts it over the bar under pressure
    • 81' Bent joins his Irish teammate in the book, also for dissent. Sunderland are losing their heads here
    • 78' Andy Reid is booked for dissent after foul on him by Hendry Thomas
    • 76' Rodallega did really well there. Brought the ball down, bustled through and finished brilliantly from a tight angle. Sunderland wanted a free kick for a foul in the build-up but their claims fall on deaf ears
    • 76' GOAL: Rodallega puts Wigan ahead. A really well-taken goal
    • 72' Things open up very briefly for Charles N'Zogbia on the left but Richardson quickly slams the door shut as the Frenchman winds up to shoot
    • 70' And the Colombian has another pop from the edge of the box which just misses the right-hand post. He's been far more involved since he moved right up front when Scotland came off
    • 69' Rodallega has a chance now but he hits his low effort straight at Fulop
    • 67' Yet another corner for Sunderland is cleared but this time it falls to Richardson who fires over from the edge of the box
    • 65' The away side have two more corners but both crosses by Reid are comfortably cleared
    • 64' Sunderland have a corner but Reid's cross is cleared by Scharner for another corner
    • 62' A good chance for Bramble but his header from Gomez's corner is straight at Fulop. A yard either side of him and that was probably hitting the back of the net
    • 60' Frazier Campbell is flagged offside when he looked like he might get in behind Wigan
    • 57' A cross from Andy Reid comes to nothing but Sunderland are looking better since the break
    • 54' Scotland is coming off to be replaced by Jordi Gomez. The home side are without an out-and-out striker on the pitch now
    • 54' A chance for Darren Bent. And he might have scored. Andy Reid's cross from the left finds him on the edge of the six yard box but he mistimes his leap and heads wide
    • 51' ...but it comes to nothing as Bramble clears
    • 51' Bardsley has another effort from the resulting corner but it is blocked and goes out for another corner to be taken by Reid...
    • 50' Sunderland look a bit more interested this half and Andy Reid comes close for them as his shot from the edge of the box is deflected just over the bar
    • 49' Mohamed Diame has an opening on the edge of the box but he skews his right-footed effort horribly wide
    • 45' Sunderland have made a change. They are going to switch to 4-4-2 as Frazier Campbell comes on for Steed Malbranque
    • 45' The second half is underway
    • - Wigan have had six shots at goal, with three hitting the target, while Sunderland only have Richardson's second minute shot to show for their efforts
    • - Sunderland surprisingly having the edge possession-wise in the first half but Wigan played most of their football in more dangerous areas.
    • - Not much in terms of goalmouth action for either side but Wigan have certainly had the better of it. Roberto Martinez will be happy with how his team has bounced back from last week's drubbing
    • 45' HALF TIME
    • 43' Figueroa has a good opportunity to put a ball in the box from the left but he puts it straight out of play. A waste
    • 37' This game's being played almost exclusively in Sunderland's half. Bent has barely had a kick
    • 33' Another corner from Rodallega is punched clear by Fulop this time
    • 29' The corner is caught by Fulop but Wigan are well on top now
    • 29' The resulting free kick is cleared for a corner which will be taken from the left by Rodallega...
    • 29' Michael Turner is booked for a foul on Scharner
    • 26' Scharner hits one from outside the box in the ensuing chaos but he misses the target
    • 26' Jason Scotland comes so close to his first Premiership goal but his shot from inside he box hits the post. That's easily the best chance either side have had
    • 22' The on-form Darren Bent gets his first sniff of goal. It's all his own work but his shot is smothered
    • 18' Hendry Thomas has a highly ambitious pop for Wigan. He must have been 35 yards out and misses the target by some distance. You don't score from there Hendry I'm afraid
    • 17' N'Zogbia has a half-chance but his left-footed shot from the edge of the box is well blocked by George McCartney
    • 16' A hopeful cross is lumped into the box by Reid for Sunderland but Bramble has no problem clearing
    • 14' These two are nervously feeling each other out - just tame long-range efforts so far
    • 13' Another speculative effort from outside the box - this time from Jason Scotland - is comfortably caught by Fulop.
    • 7' Marton Fulop in the Sunderland goal gets his hands warm - a comfortable save from a 20 yard pot shot from Paul Scharner
    • 5' Decent start by both sides here
    • 2' Kieran Richardson has the first effort of the game but his shot from 25 yards fles over
    • 2' Sunderland have an early corner from the right but Andy Reid's cross is easily cleared by Emerson Boyce
    • 1' We're off here
    • - Wigan will be desperate to bounce back today following last week's 9-1 mauling at White Hart Lane, while Sunderland are hoping to build on their shock defeat of Arsenal
    • - TEAM NEWS - Sunderland: Fulop, Bardsley, Da Silva, Turner, McCartney, Malbranque, Henderson, Cana, Richardson, Reid, Bent. Subs: Carson, Nosworthy, Ferdinand, Mensah, Campbell, Healy, Zenden
    • - TEAM NEWS - Wigan: Kirkland, Melchiot, Bramble, Boyce, Figueroa, N'Zogbia, Thomas, Scharner, Diame, Rodallega, Scotland. Subs: Pollitt, Amaya, Cho, Koumas, Gomez, Sinclair, McCarthy
  • Summary

    • 76' GOAL: Rodallega puts Wigan ahead. A really well-taken goal

  1. Don't worry, Sunderland - we can still make Europe!!!!

I believe Ozzy, Tony, Gezer and Bill said it best: NEVER SAY DIE!!!!!!

"People going nowhere, taken for a ride
Looking for the answers that they know inside
Searching for a reason, looking for a rhyme Snow White's mirror said "partners in crime!"

Don't they ever have to worry?
    Don't you ever wonder why?
It's a part of me that tells you
Oh, don't you ever, don't ever say die
Never, never, never say die again

Sunday's satisfaction, Monday's home and dry
Truth is on the doorstep, welcome in the lie
All dressed up in sorrow, got no place to go
Hold back, `till it's ready, taking it slow

Don't they ever have to worry?
    Don't you ever wonder why?
It's a part of me that tells you
Oh, don't you ever, don't ever say die
Never, never, never say die again

    Don't you ever say die
    Don't you ever say die
    Never say die

Panic, silver lining, writing's on the wall
Children get together, you can save us all
Future's on the corner, throwing us a die
Slow down, turn around, everything's fine

There's no need to have a reason
There's no need to wonder why
It's a part of me that tells you
Oh, don't you ever, don't ever say die
Never, never, never say die again..."
