    • 90+2' Bang. Take that. Chelsea win 6-0 without even playing that well. They go top. Look out Premier League. West Brom face a tough, tough season.
    • 90+1' Two minutes of stoppage time which cannot pass quickly enough for the visitors.
    • 90' GOAL!! Florent Malouda makes it six!! He latches on to an Anelka through ball, rounds Carson and fires in off the post! Lovely goal.
    • 88' Simon Cox works space for a shot but blazes wide. Not a bad chance, that, but he just lost his composure.
    • 87' Brunt fires a frustrated long shot wide from fully 30 yards.
    • 86' Chelsea clear the set pice, although that might just qualify as West Brom's best spell of the match.
    • 85' A Brunt shot is deflected over and West Brom have a corner.
    • 83' Finally, the crowd comes to life with a chant of 'stand up for the champions'.
    • 81' There's literally nothing to comment on. Both sides happy to go through the motions.
    • 79' Malouda steps up and curls his shot over. Carson has it covered anyway.
    • 78' Chelsea win a free-kick 25 yards out but there is no Drogba or Lampard to take it...
    • 76' Anelka stabs the ball goalwards from close range... Carson gathers. The crowd aren't really paying attention - they're more interested in extracting a wave from Carlo Ancelotti.
    • 74' Alex fouls Miller and Brunt delivers the free-kick... it comes to nothing.
    • 72' Essien is allowed to run and run, and centres for Anelka - but the Frenchman is flagged offside.
    • 70' Off comes Didier Drogba, and Salomon Kalou gets a 20-minute run-out.
    • 68' GOAL!! Hat-trick for Drogba, and Chelsea are top! He fires a powerful shot from the edge of the box that Tamas deflects past Carson. A miserable afternoon for West Brom.
    • 67' West Bromwich: Ismael Miller and Simon Cox replace Roman Bednar and Graham Dorrans.
    • 66' One more goal and Blackpool's short stint at the top of the Premier League will be over.
    • 65' Here is Benayoun, and it's Lampard who makes way. The Israeli could hardly wish for a more benign introduction to Premier League football with Chelsea.
    • 63' GOAL!! Frank Lampard! It's brilliant from Chelsea! Anelka finds Cole with a perfect reverse pass and the left-back squares for Lampard to side-foot home from close range. Fantastic goal.
    • 62' Chelsea come forward threateningly with Malouda on the left... he gives the ball away, rather wastefully.
    • 60' And Ferreira gets what Ron Atkinson would call the curly finger from Ancelotti - he is promptly replaced by Branislav Ivanovic.
    • 59' Ferreira with an unnecessary challenge on Thomas - that's yellow for the Portuguese.
    • 58' Remember West Brom's first four away games are against each of the Big Four. They could cop a few hammerings by next month.
    • 56' That takes Didier Drogba above Jimmy Greaves into sixth place on the list of the all-time goalscorers for Chelsea. The men to catch: Bobby Tambling, Kerry Dixon, Frank Lampard, Roy bentley and Peter Osgood. Drog now has 133.
    • 55' GOAL!! It's three, it's Drogba again! A close range finish after West Brom fail to clear a corner prooperly! He boots it in left-footed from four yards.
    • 53' West Brom win a free-kick 40 yards from goal, Dorrans standing over it... he fires up and over the wall, but the ball goes half a yard over.
    • 52' Dorrans hits a shot that goes wide via a touch off Roman Bednar.
    • 51' Drogba dummies and allows Malouda to strike... well wide!
    • 50' The Chelsea subs warm up on the touchline. I would imagine we'll see Yossi Benayoun at some point.
    • 48' It's really quiet around Stamford Bridge. The crowd waiting to be entertained...
    • 47' Essien spreads it wide to Ferreira on the right... Thomas races across to make an important intervention.
    • 46' The second half is under way - no personnel changes from either side.
    • 45+1' Chelsea had a poor pre-season, but so far this has been like an exhibition for them. Without ever really hitting their stride, the champions are in complete control.
    • 45' GOAL!! DROGBA SCORES A LONG RANGE FREE-KICK!! It goes straight through the middle of the wall and bounces past Carson into the right corner of the net. Poor defending, poor goalkeeping. You cannot afford to do that against Chelsea!
    • 44' Essien flicks the ball past his man then buys a free-kick. Drogba and Lampard both standing over it, the Drog with more intent.
    • 43' Brunt strikes from the edge of the box, cleared by Terry... and Cech follows up by belting the ball into the crowd.
    • 42' Also, West Brom have not won in their last 12 PL visits to London, since a 4-1 victory at Charlton Athletic in March 2005. In total they have won only two of 23 PL visits to the capital. Their only other victory was 1-0 at West Ham in September 2002. Just saying...
    • 41' West Brom have no win in their last 16 PL away matches, since a 1-0 victory at Middlesbrough in September 2008. It is four-and-a-half years since their last PL away victory against a current PL club - 1-0 at Wigan Athletic in January 2006.
    • 40' Lampard hits the free-kick straight at Carson who parries, and Malouda heads the rebound over!
    • 39' Clumsy by Tamas, upending Drogba at the edge of the box. Similar position to the free-kick that led to the opening goal.
    • 37' Low Morrison cross from the right. Alex cuts it out.
    • 36' No sign of a cricket score. Chelsea in control, but looking some way below their slick, incisive best.
    • 35' A touch of class from Chelsea's Bruce Buck in today's programme notes: "Joe Cole has gone to a smallish club somewhere north of the M25." No doubt Liverpool fans will laugh that one off...
    • 33' Anelka's low cross from the right is blocked by a sliding body, provoking muted penalty appeals. No, it's a corner instead.
    • 31' A bit of news: there are increasing rumours (i.e. Twitter) that Kevin Blackwell has left Sheffield United just two games into the Championship season. The Blades got a spanking off Neil Warnock's QPR this afternoon. Championship scores and scorers
    • 30' Better from Thomas, sending a cross in from the left... Alex gets his head on it.
    • 29' Jerome Thomas dribbles inside from the left and tries a low long shot. He's a lively player, but once he gets his head down he can be greedy.
    • 28' Lampard sprays an excellent 60-yard crossfield pass to Ferreira out on the right flank.
    • 26' Drogba attempts a cute flick to Cole and gives the ball away - but a hurried clearance to touch gifts possession back to the home team.
    • 24' Offside against Malouda, who remains bafflingly unpopular with many Chelsea fans despite a year of brilliant performances...
    • 23' Lampard tries a long shot but Tamas blocks it.
    • 21' West Brom just cannot get hold of the ball. They were used to dominating in the Championship. Not so here - and their unpcoming away games are against Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester United.
    • 20' A muscular confrontation between Pablo and Drogba. It's clear that nonsense will not be part of the Spaniard's game.
    • 18' Terrific finish from Bednar, who plants the ball into the top-right corner, but he has been flagged offside. Rightly so.
    • 17' Confusion at the back from the visitors as a clearance is blocked, but eventually Carson smashes the ball clear.
    • 15' Here's a good stat: Frank Lampard has scored in the month of August in each of the last six PL seasons (a total of ten goals). In total, he has scored 14 PL goals during the month - only Aston Villa's Emile Heskey (16) and Manchester United’s Michael Owen (15) have scored more. So, August is Heskey's month...
    • 14' Dorrans swings in a free-kick from the West Brom left, but Pablo is adjudged to have committed a foul.
    • 13' You will see if you click the 'live standings' tab that we have unlikely Premier League leaders. Take a bow, Blackpool.
    • 11' Dorrans's shot is deflected by Terry and Cech reacts superbly to push it behind for a corner.
    • 10' The heavens have re-opened and it is now throwing it down in West London.
    • 9' Cole hits an incisive low cross in front of goal from wide on the left, but unusually there is nobody attacking it.
    • 8' Lampard hits a long-range sighter high over the bar.
    • 7' It's a bit too early to start reciting facts about the number of hammerings Chelsea doled out last season, but West Brom need to get a grip to stop this becoming another.
    • 6' GOAL!! CHELSEA GET OFF TO A FLIER!! Carson fumbles Drogba's free-kick, Mikel's rebound is saved but Malouda gets another bite of the cherry and sweeps the ball in! Poor error by Carson.
    • 5' Pablo Ibanez brings down Florent Malouda right at the edge of the box... danger here.
    • 4' Anelka hits an optimistic shot from long range... it bounces awkwardly for Carson but he gatehrs the shot.
    • 3' Good move from West Brom as they shift the ball from left to right... Dorrans tees up Morrison who blazes his shot wide.
    • 3' Essien beats his man and spreads a good-looking ball wide for Ashley Cole on the left. But the ball skips off the damp surface and out for a throw.
    • 2' Boos for John Terry from the visiting fans. He may have to get used to that.
    • 1' Game on! Chelsea kick off, playing from right to left as we see it. They are in their blue home shirt, West Brom in all black.
    • 17:25 Chelsea's Branislav Ivanovic was injured on international duty while there is still no Jose Bosingwa. For West Brom, Chris Brunt and Graham Dorrans are the key men through the middle.
    • 17:20 Chelsea splashed out another £18m yesterday when they completed the signing of Brazil midfielder Ramires. No place in the squad for him today but he looks a fine player. Ramires completes Chelsea move
    • 17:15 This is the fourth timeWest Brom have been promoted to the Premier League – the equal-most ever promotions to the PL alongside Sunderland. If they are relegated they will equal the record for most relegations from the PL – held by Crystal Palace (4).
    • 17:15 Chelsea have won their last 12 top flight matches against West Brom, including all eight previous PL meetings. This is their longest ever run of consecutive victories against another top flight club.
    • 17:10 We're seven games into the Premier League season - here's a recap of today's action. Premier League scores and scorers
    • 17:05 Petr Cech is back for Chelsea, replacing Hilario - great news for Chelsea. Meanwhile Frank Lampard and Alex have both overcome minor injuries.
    • 17:00 TEAMS: CHELSEA: Cech, Paulo Ferreira, Terry, Alex, Cole, Mikel, Essien, Lampard, Malouda, Anelka, Drogba... Subs: Hilario, Ivanovic, Benayoun, Zhirkov, Kalou, Sturridge, Van Aanholt... • 16:45 Chelsea begin their Barclays Premier League title defence as they welcome Roberto Di Matteo's West Brom to Stamford Bridge.
  • Summary

    • 90' GOAL!! Florent Malouda makes it six!! He latches on to an Anelka through ball, rounds Carson and fires in off the post! Lovely goal.

  14. manno de dios - La Liga only has 2 title contenders, and Valencia and Seville always grab euro spots. Hardly entertaining hay? The Premier league is the best in the world. You dont need home grown players to perform in a national league, simply look at the players coming all around the globe to take part in this great place only Spain can dream of. There are at least 4 title contenders this season, and around 6 for euro. Anyone from the league who doesnt perform gets relegated, simple. That shows the quality of the league. Better this Spain!

  16. @300 Rob. Don't be kidding yourself! The EPL is only the best league in the world when it comes to taking money off gullible supporters to pay for over-rated players (Rooney, etc). There are 3, maybe 4, good teams in the EPL and even they can't do much in Europe (how many of them picked up European silverware.....!). The rest wouldn't last in the Spanish 1st Division. Barca and Real are always in front because they are great teams but scores like 6-0 only show the inferiority of the lesser teams in the EPL. Even if it is the "best league in the world' the English players certainly aren't-unless I missed them actually doing something in the World Cup unlike Spain with its inferior La Liga!!!

  20. Alec Clark, you are a genuine idiot or you are blind because Macheda did not hand ball it.
And even if he had a little bit(not redirecting the ball) Drogba's goal was blatantly offside
