Manchester United began their Premier League campaign in commanding fashion with a 3-0 victory over Newcastle United at Old Trafford. More
90+3' The full-time whistle goes at Old Trafford, and it has been a princely display from Manchester United as Sir Alex Ferguson's side beat Newcastle 3-0 with Berbatov, Fletcher and Giggs on target. Thanks for joining us!
86' Patrice Evra makes way as Rafael comes on in his place, and the Frenchman is moving very gingerly.
85' GOAL!!!!! GIGGS MAKES IT THREE! Scholes dinks over a precise delivery which Giggs volleys coolly into the far corner of the net to beat Harper and give United their third goal!
82' Evra goes down in a crumpled heap after bumping into the advertising hoardings behind the Newcastle goal, and the Frenchman looks in a lot of pain.
81' Berbatov is clean through on goal following yet another Scholes through ball, but he plants his shot straight at Harper! It should have been three.
80' Gutierrez makes way as Xisco comes on to replace the Argentine for the final 10 minutes of play.
71' Ameobi comes on to replace Nolan, while Ryan Giggs is introduced for Nani as both sides make a change.
63' Rooney makes way as Hernandez is introduced, and that is now 13 games for club and country without a goal for the Englishman.
59' Nani is brought down on the edge of the Newcastle box by Smith, but only after the offside flag had been raised.
58' Fletcher is booked for a mistimed challenge, and the Manchester United goalscorer is furious with the referee as Barton hits the turf.
55' What a chance for United! Rooney is slipped through on goal from a Valencia pass, but the forward unselfishly looks for Berbatov to no avail. Seconds earlier, Scholes looked to have been brought down by Coloccini, but the referee said no!
54' Scholes is booked for a rash challenge on Nolan, and that was a pretty hapless effort from the midfielder.
46' Neither manager sees fit to make a change as the second half begins, and United are straight back into their stride with Paul Scholes on the ball.
45+2' The half-time whistle goes at Old Trafford, and Manchester United lead 2-0 courtesy of goals from Dimitar Berbatov and Darren Fletcher. The hosts look very comfortable indeed.
41' GOAL!!!! FLETCHER DOUBLES UNITED'S LEAD! Evra hares down the left before Rooney deflects the Frenchman's cross into the path of Fletcher, and the midfielder taps the ball home to make it two!
33' BERBATOV OPENS THE SCORING! Manchester United break Newcastle down, and Berbatov beats the offside trap to fire a low shot beyond Harper from Scholes's pinpoint pass!
31' Berbatov heads the ball back to Rooney from Valencia's deep delivery, but the forward blasts his volley high and wide as the chance goes begging!
27' Williamson almost gets himself into real trouble with a poor clearance which falls to Rooney, but the defender makes amends with a fine sliding challenge to deny the forward!
22' Nani hurtles through on goal only to be hauled down by Perch, but that was more clumsy than cynical and the right-back is shown the yellow card to follow Barton. Does anyone wish to follow him?
18' Joey Barton is booked! Sporting a pretty horrific moustache, the midfielder clips the heels of Valencia and is promptly shown the yellow card. That was pretty harsh!
11' What a miss! Carroll rises above Vidic to win a clean header in front of goal from Nolan's corner, but the forward can only direct it wide of the near post - he should have scored, no doubt about it!
6' Nolan gets a big whack on the back of the head and lies on the ground in agony after an aerial clash with the indestructible Vidic - he gets to his feet gingerly and should be okay.
1' We're underway at Old Trafford, and an enormous roar acknowledges the fact! United press forward immediately through Valencia down the right.

475 plastic fans? funny coz Chelsea's fan base wasnt as big as it is now until they were bought out by Abramovich

I watched the match on TV - for the first 30 minutes i thought we were playing at the Library - the only noise i could hear was from the Toon Army - didn't expect to get much but i was impressed by some of our players especially Carroll - he ran his socks off.

who is the daddy?
