Tough on Sunderland as they threatned too but you have to take your chances and West Brom did just that.

    • 70' Brunt with the corner but Mignolet claims then clears...Barnes again...cleared by Sunderland then Jara fouls Onuoha....out right to Campbell...but Bent drifts offside....
    • 69' Da Silva fouls Odemwingie and West Brom get a free-kick on the left wing near the penalty area...Dorrans to take it...cleared...back to Dorrans...who crosses and Mignolet flaps it behind for a corner

    • 59' Barnes raids down the left, cuts inside and then goes down in a heap under a challenge from Riveros. Barnes is up but he's limping.
    • 57' Defensive indecision from West Brom and Olsson concedes the throw on the right. Jara clears...Sunderland's throw...Onuoha to launch it...instead he goes short and the cross is cleared...Riveros crosses...cleared...
    • 55' Barnes gets down the left and crosses which Mignolet does well to gather....he clears and Tamas fouls Bent on the edge of the box...Richardson places it...but his effort doesn't dip enough and it goes over.
    • 54' This is much better from both sides. Clearly the managers have had a word and want the three points. But who will get them?
    • 53' West Brom get a free-kick just outside the box. Dorrans is over it...and the ball is over the bar.
    • 51' Giles Barnes has his first run with the ball on the left. His cross is headed away by Bramble...Dorrans crosses for Morrison but Bramble concedes the corner...which is cleared.
    • 50' Mulumbu tries to break free of Malbranque but the Sunderland man brings him down and gets a boot in the face for good measure...
    • 49' West Brom move up the right and Dorrans wins throw - he's been far too quiet. Mulumbu wins a throw on the right...it's cleared.
    • 48' Sunderland look bang up for this game now. Bent is fouled by Olsson on the right wing - the defender is already on a caution. Henderson to take...he fires it in with pace...Bent gets in front of Jara but heads it well wide. Better from the Black Cats.
    • 46' Sunderland win a corner straight away on the left...it's missed by everyone...Campbell retrieves it and swings over the cross...Elmohandy fouls Cech and West Brom get the free-kick.

    • 45+2' The referee blows his whistle to signal half-time. Odemwingie's first half opening is still the best of the game and West Brom made be made to pay for his miss.
    • 45+1' It's an untidy finish to the half with Sunderland more than holding their own. West Brom continue their passing game but cannot penetrate the Black Cats' rearguard.

    • 43' Mignolet in the SUnderland goal has been a virtual spectator this half....Campbell wins the foul from Mulumbu 35 yards out....taken short...Elmohandy crosses but it's too deep for anyone...West Brom clear...
    • 42' Jara tires to get down the right but Richardson stands firm.
    • 41' Odemwingie again tries to run the legs off Da Silva - it's a brilliant battle to watch - and again the defender wins out.
    • 40' Morrison fouls Riveros...Bramble launches the free-kick forward...Bent wins it in the air but it goes out for a goal-kick.
    • 38' Not long to the break and West Brom now look hurried on the ball. Carson has it....Di Matteo urges his team forward...Odemwingie tries to turn Da Silva but the big defender does really well...Malbranque brings it away.
    • 36' Sunderland have upped the tempo, no question. The West Brom duo of Brunt and Morrison are now more tightly marked and their influence has dwindled as a result. West Brom have a throw in the left corner...Cech is offside.

    • 35' Thomas is back on. But now Riveros goes down under a challenge from Olsson.
    • 34' Jerome Thomas limps off to receive treatment to his right ankle.
    • 32' WHAT A SHOT!! Cech burst down the left and crossed. The ball took a deflection off the head of a defender and Brunt shaped a tremendous overhead kick that only just flashed over the bar from 10 yards. Wonderful technique.
    • 30' After a very bright start West Brom have been forced back. Make no mistake Sunderland are well in this match and Odemwingie's miss could be costly.
    • 29' Brunt surges through the inside left position and Thomas just has to give him the ball but his pass is weak and the move is wasted.
    • 28' Thomas tries to take on Onuoha for the first time but the defender comes out on top. His clearance is poor and Cech fires goalwards but it's well wide.
    • 25' Richardson and Malbranque force a throw on the left...but West Brom clear. Sunderland are putting on the pressure now...Bent, Malbranque, Henderson then Richardson swings over the cross which Cech puts out for a corner....which Brunt heads away.
    • 22' Brunt and Morrison are the key for West Brom. They look very good on the ball and combine well. Odemwingie forces a corner on the right....Brunt, who else?, to take it...Sunderland clear...and break. Elmohandy gets clear on the right and picks out Riveros 18 yards out but his shot is blocked.
    • 20' Great chance for West Brom. James Morrison jinks down the right wing past two challenges. He whips over a fantastic cross which Brunt flicks off the top of Odemwingie's head! If only Brunt had a call!!
    • 18' Cech fouls Bent on the edge of the box...Richardson stands over it but Bent strikes it...straight into the wall. Throw to Sunderland on the right...Campbell forces his way into the box but Cech defends well.
    • 17' CAUTION: Chris Brunt (West Brom)
    • 16' Onuoha's long throw fails to find Bent and West Brom come forward...Brunt and Morrison combine. Brunt forces a throw. Henderson intercepts and Brunt fouls him.
    • 15' That was better from Sunderland. West Brom are good in possession but the Black Cats look more dangerous in the final third. Although Odemwingie has started very brightly.
    • 14' Free-kick for Sunderland after Campbell is fouled 20 yards out but Richardson drills it over the bar. No drama.
    • 12' Frasier Campbell nearly profits from indecision at the back by West Brom but Carson sticks his boot through the clearance...Campbell is then fouled just inside the Sunderland half...free-kick...but West Brom get it back...but Mulumbu is robbed in midfield...fortunately for him Henderson's flick to release Malbranque finds him in an offside position.
    • 10' Malbranque glides through midfield and releases Bent. The flag is up for offside but replays show he may have been level. Lucky escape for West Brom.
    • 9' A good start from the Baggies....and diagonal ball for Odemwingie is headed down into the path of Morrison 20 yards out but he pulls the shot wide. More good play from West Brom. Sunderland haven't really got going.
    • 8' Elmohandy wins a header after a long ball from Richardson but it goes behind Bent and safely through to Carson in goal.
    • 6' More head tennis in midfield until Marek Cech gets his foot on the ball...Brunt release Odemwingie with a through ball down the middle...he's clear....but scuffs a right-footed shot horribly wide.
    • 5' The West Brom centre back pairing of Tamas and Olsson are hitting it long towards Odemwingie at every opportunity. Bramble and Da Silva are loving it.
    • 4' Chris Brunt and Morrison combine on the edge of the box but Mulumbu's cross is overhit and drifts out. West Brom on top in the early exchanges.
    • 3' Early ball forward for Thomas but Bramble clears then Darren Bent threatens to latch onto the long ball down field but Tamas defends well against the lively forward.

The players­ brought in are financial mercenaries- glad to have a­ club that will pay them megabucks for dismal­ performances. Lets face it Paraguayans are not exactly­ among the worlds best!
