    • 90+1' Fletcher departs to be replaced by Fabio for United.
    • 89' Three minutes to be added to the match.

    • 84' Rooney's corner is collected by Carrick on the edge of the box. Picks out Hernandez, but he rushes the shot and knocks the ball over the bar.
    • 83' Rooney on the run. Plays the ball to Nani. The cross is knocked behind by Bardsley for a corner.
    • 82' Lindegaard knocks the ball long down the park with the goalkick. Westwood returns the favour seconds later.
    • 81' United will head back into second spot in the table with this win a point ahead of Newcastle as Elmohamady fails to keep the ball in out wide.
    • 80' Change for United as Carrick is introduced to replace Park.
    • 79' Meyler hammers a shot at the United goal. It deflects off a home shirt before landing in the arms of Lindegaard.
    • 78' A better day than that 6-1 trouncing by Manchester City, but not exactly vintage United as they cling to this 1-0 lead.
    • 77' Bendtner so close to getting on the end of Larsson's cross. How close was that. Inches away from the equaliser as the ball races across the face of the home goal.
    • 76' Clock clicking down on Sunderland's hopes as Bendtner picks the ball up out wide, but fails to get a cross into the area.
    • 75' Elmohamady forced to dash back to clear the ball from Park. Solid defending.
    • 74' Off goes Sessegnon for the home side with Ahmed Elmohamady wheeled into the action.
    • 73' Colback departs to be replaced by Meyler.
    • 72' Ji Dong-Won heads over the bar. That is the cue for more action on the visiting bench.
    • 71' Off goes Welbeck for United and on comes Berbatov with this game still in the melting pot at 1-0 in favour of United.
    • 70' Bardsley takes down Nani and United have a free-kick. Change coming for the home side.
    • 69' Westwood suddenly seeing more action as he comes from his line to punch the ball clear.
    • 68' Brilliant goalkeeping by Westwood to save from Rooney then tip Evra's shot over the bar. So close to the killer second goal for United.
    • 67' Nani's corner headed back across goal by Vidic, but no takers on hand. United continue on the offensive.
    • 66' Hernandez runs offside. United could really do with a second goal to ease the tension out there.
    • 65' United were in a sweat for a moment as Ji Dong-Won went down in the box under pressure from Phil Jones and Ferdinand. Referee consulted his linesman, but awards the home side a free-kick or goalkick. Whatever decision, was made. The referee's one is final.
    • 64' Evra on the run for United. Hits the byline, but the cross is easily cut out by Westwood.
    • 63' Vidic thumps an effort at the Sunderland goal, but straight down the throat of Westwood.
    • 62' So close to United's second as Richardson knocks Hernandez's header off the line from Nani's corner. That would have killed off the visitors.
    • 61' Sweeping move by Nani sees him accept a pass from Hernandez before a shot is deflected wide for a corner.
    • 60' Nani tries to create some magic by rattling a shot at goal from distance. Knocks the shot well over the bar.
    • 59' Turner nods wide of the United goal from Ji Dong-Won's cross. Goalkick to the home side.
    • 58' United leaving Welbeck up front on his own as Sunderland try to create something of interest. Jones fouls Colback and Sunderland have a free-kick in the United half.
    • 57' United have been far from convincing in this match. No real urgency as Sunderland again pick up the ball in the United half.
    • 56' United have now scored in each of their last 36 Premier League games at Old Trafford.
    • 55' United keeping the ball again with little or no concern. Nani does well to cross Rooney's pass back across goal before being caught offside seconds later.
    • 54' Fletcher deemed to be guiilty of fouling the Sunderland keeper, and there is a free-kick to the visitors.
    • 53' United being patient on the ball. Park with the cross into the middle, but the ball is punched cleared by Westwood.
    • 52' Nani manages to get the ball up and over the wall, but the ball is wide of the goal. Decent hit by Nani.
    • 51' Park on the ball for United before he is felled by Bardsley 30 yards from the Sunderland goal. Free-kick to United.
    • 50' Colback deemed to be offside as the visiting side cut a dash forward. Correct decision by the linesman.
    • 49' Rooney tries to pick out Jones on the run. United pick up the loose ball seconds later before Sunderland win it back.
    • 48' Ferdinand deals well with the cross from Colback to clear from his area. Sunderland seeing plenty of the ball in this match.
    • 47' Bardsley's cross blocked by Evra as Sunderland claim a corner early in the second period.
    • 46' The second half is underway with Nani immediately pushing forward for the home side.
    • - They are giving the goal to Brown as an own goal he tried to win the ball in the air from Welbeck. No matter. United have the lead. 1-0 at the break.
    • 45+4' United with the lead at the break. Sunderland pay the price for nodding off at the key moment. Fergie will enjoy his half-time cuppa a bit better with the lead.
    • 45+3' Ji Dong-Won booked for a late foul on Ferdinand.
    • 45+1' GOAL! Welbeck rises unchallenged to head home Nani's corner. What a poor goal to lose. United probably don't deserve it, but they have the lead. Sloppy play by Sunderland.
    • 44' Into four minutes added on.
    • 43' Has not been the best of times for United as Westwood stands tall to block the cross from Nani. Corner to United.
    • 42' Sunderland with five attempts at goal to United's four as Ji Dong-Won embarks on a run before lifting a shot over at the other end. Should have done better with that chance.
    • 41' Nani's corner headed out before Jones thumps an effort narrowly over the bar. Wasn't far off the target. Probably United's best of this half.
    • 40' Vidic challenges for the ball in the box from Rooney's free-kick. United get a corner out of it.
    • 39' A booking for Larsson after he mistimed a tackle on Evra as the French play sped up the park. Free-kick then for United in a promising position out wide.
    • 38' Ji Dong-Won thumps a shot at goal from distance. Always heading wide, but worth the effort by the Sunderland substitute.
    • 37' Sunderland growing in confidence the longer this game stays at 0-0. Bruce almost superglued to the touchline at his old club.
    • 36' Fletcher slips in Hernandez, but fine covering play by Larsson to prevent the Mexican from getting a shot at goal. Never a penalty despite the home fans' appeals.
    • 35' Brown guilty of a foul on Hernandez as United try to find a way through this Sunderland defence.
    • 34' Nani dinks the free-kick into the heart of the Sunderland area, but again there are no takers on hand for United as Westwood plucks the ball out of the air.
    • 33' Park taken out late by Turner. Promising position for United from just outside the Sunderland area.
    • 32' Richardson seemed to catch the back of Colback's head. He is back on his feet looking a bit worse for wear.
    • 31' Bruce comes to the edge of the technical area as Richardson is the latest Sunderland player to require a spot of treatment.
    • 30' Jones receives a pass out wide before switching the play for Evra, who manages to knock the cross straight out of play. Another frustrating ball breaks down the move.
    • 29' Rooney sizing up his options from distance. Could have looked for a short pass, but goes for goal. Never had the power from that range to beat the visiting keeper, who makes an easy stop.
    • 28' Westwood having to scurry off his line to clear with Welbeck on the chase.
    • 27' United have managed only one shot at the Sunderland goal. Nani sums up United's day so far as he lifts a cross out of play from out wide.
    • 26' Sessegnon has been a busy lad so far. Likes a tackle, but his shooting is off as he fires an effort well wide of the home goal from 40 yards out.
    • 25' Rooney thumps the shot into the wall. All so predictable from United. Westwood then comes to collect Jones' cross. Sunderland in no great danger out there.
    • 24' Sessegnon gets his own back seconds later as he fouls Jones before Cattermole hauls back Rooney. Free-kick chance for United.
    • 23' Stephane Sessegnon has either scored or assisted each of Sunderland’s last four league games. Tries to dash clear, but taken out late by Jones. No foul for some reason.
    • 22' Nani is felled by Sessegnon, but the free-kick from Nani is poor as Larsson whacks it clear. Story of the day so far from United.
    • 21' Rooney in plenty of space midway inside the Sunderland half, but he just gives away the ball under no pressure. Poor stuff.
    • 20' Ryan Giggs sitting chatting to former team-mates Paul Scholes and Gary Neville. More action there than on the park for United, who continue to toil.
    • 19' United 1/4 to win this game, but not really coming up with the goods. Chance for Jones to whip in a cross, but fails to beat the first man. United go backwards again.
    • 18' Richardson decides to go on a run, but manages to run the ball out of play. The visiting side drop deep. Not much reaction from Fergie in the home technical area.
    • 17' Rooney clatters Cattermole with the late challenge. Free-kick to the Black Cats.
    • 16' The North Stand at Old Trafford now known as the Sir Alex Ferguson stand, but Sunderland are now here to stand on ceremony as they pick up the loose ball again.
    • 15' All a bit slow from United. Richardson with plenty of time to knock the ball out of play under pressure from Nani.
    • 14' A Manchester United victory would see them become the first team to surpass 900 home points in the Premier League (currently on 898) - but there is work to be done. Sunderland look in the mood to have a go.
    • 13' Best two moments of the match so far have fallen to Sunderland. Energetic start by the visiting side.
    • 12' Corner comes to nothing, but Sunderland continue to push forward as Lindergaard dives to keep out the shot by Bendtner. Decent stop.
    • 11' Chance for the visiting side falls to Larsson, but his shot hits off Evra before flying wide of the target. Early warning signs for United.
    • 10' United keeping the ball, but not going anywhere with it as Brown makes the clearance.
    • 9' Sunderland have failed to score in seven of their last nine Premier League games against Man United. Would love one today.
    • 8' Bardlsey gets the ball up the park. Sunderland working so hard to close down space as United keep the ball in their usual manner.
    • 7' Nani picks out Hernandez, but he can't get any power on the shot as Westwood collects. Bright play by Rooney and Nani.
    • 6' Game trying to recover some sense of momentum after that early injury to Wickham.
    • 5' Not sure what the extent of the damage is to Wickham, but he is being carried off in some pain here as Ji Dong-Won is wheeled on. We begin play after that delay.
    • 4' Sunderland boss Steve Bruce can't believe this. He is shaking his head as the stretcher is brought onto the park. Wickham is going to be carted off. Ferguson looking on chewing frantically on his gum.
    • 3' Problems early on for the visiting side with Wickham on the deck and in need of some treatment. These are not good signs for Sunderland.
    • 2' United quickly into their stride this afternoon. Hernandez chases the ball up front but Westwood smacks it out of his area.
    • 1' We are off and running at Old Trafford after that immaculately observed minute's silence by both sets of fans.
    • 14.59 Big day then for Fergie and for United, who are looking to clamber back into second spot in the table. A minute's silence for the fallen.
    • 14.57 Fergie strolls out onto the pitch and enjoys a guard of honour from both sets of players and the match officials. Chief executive David Gill announces the club will rename the North Stand the Sir Alex Ferguson stand.
    • 14.55 Newcastle United have just gone second, yes second, with a 2-1 win at home to Everton, so United now drop two points behind the Magpies with a game in hand, and sit four points ahead of Chelsea. Sunderland, meanwhile, are in 14th with ten points from ten games, but could go as high as joint eighth with a win today.
    • 14.50 Here is the full Fergie record, courtesy of Infostrada: "Sir Alex Ferguson will mark his 25 years in charge of Manchester United on Sunday, having taken over at Old Trafford on November 6, 1986. He has won 836, drawn 326 and lost 247 of his 1409 matches, scoring 2579 goals and conceding 1262."
    • 14.45 We hear that the United players might be giving Sir Alex Ferguson a guard of honour as he enters the pitch today. What a lovely gesture. Twenty-five years eh? Who would make your all-time Fergie XI? Here's our pick
    • 14.40 So how about some stat action, courtesy of Opta? "Since losing to Sunderland in 1997, Man Utd have won 13 and lost none of the subsequent 18 Premier League matches against the Black Cats ... The Red Devils have scored in each of their last 35 Premier League games at Old Trafford ... Sebastian Larsson has scored 40% of the direct free kicks converted in the Premier League this season (two of five)."
    • 14.35 Sunderland have a bit of bite in midfield today as Lee Cattermole replaces the injured David Vaughan. With former Fergie favourite John O'Shea absent, another ex-United man is at right-back in the shape of Phil Bardsley. Kieren Westwood makes his full league debut in goal and youngster John Egan wins a place on the bench.
    • 14.30 So it looks to us as though Wayne Rooney is reprising the Paul Scholes role that he performed against Otelul Galati in midweek, despite Fergie saying he would be moving back up front. Anders Lindegaard also replaces David De Gea in goal, while Patrice Evra and Nemanja Vidic come in for Jonny Evans and Fabio at the back. Anderson, Antonio Valencia, Michael Owen and Dimitar Berbatov are replaced by Darren Fletcher, Park Ji-sung, Javier Hernandez and Danny Welbeck. Fergie: Rooney to return in attack
    • 14.25 TEAMS: Man Utd: Lindegaard, Jones, Ferdinand, Vidic, Evra, Fletcher, Rooney, Park, Nani, Welbeck, Hernandez. Subs: De Gea, Evans, Berbatov, Diouf, Carrick, Fabio, Valencia. /// Sunderland: Westwood, Bardsley, Brown, Turner, Richardson, Cattermole, Colback, Larsson, Wickham, Sessegnon, Bendtner. Subs: Carson, Egan, Elmohamady, McClean, Meyler, Dong-won, Gardner.
    • 14.20 Now, I'm not sure if you have heard, but tomorrow marks a rather special anniversary. Sunday brings up 25 years of Sir Alex Ferguson's rule at Old Trafford - a remarkable feat. Here's what Early Doors had to say on the matter on Friday.
