    • 90+4' The referee brings this very entertaining game to an end. Thank you for joining me today. Hope to see you soon.
    • 90+3' Agbonlahor breaks down the right and attempts to beat Brown but is tackled well and looks to be hurt. Sunderland send the ball downfield.
    • 90+1' Albrighton beats his man on the right and looks to be pulled back but nothing is given. The hosts clear and attack through Sessegnon.
    • 90' Dunne was booked for that heavily shoulder barge that lead to the goal, by the way. We'll have four minutes of added time.
    • 89' GOAL FOR SUNDERLAND!! What did I tell you?!?! Dunne gives away a free kick on the touchline and it is sent in by Larsson. Sessegnon, unmarked on the penalty spot, heads coolly into the bottom corner. Game on.
    • 88' Like for like swap for the visitors. Marc Albrighton is introduced in replace of N'Zogbia. Can Sunderland respond now? They haven't looked as promising with the ball in this half but they've got enough quality on the pitch to grab a goal.
    • 87' Warnock is penalised for a niggly foul and then shown a yellow. He's been guilty of that a few times today.
    • 86' That goal doesn't seem to have put the hosts on a downer at all as they go on the attack straight away. They bombard the Villa box with a number of crosses. Collins finally hacks it clear.
    • 85' GOAL FOR VILLA!! Agbonlahor wins a very soft free kick on the right which is sent in by Petrov. Dunne rises highest to glance the ball into the far corner.
    • 84' Heskey latches on to a long ball and wins it, finding Petrov in the process. The former England striker receives it back but makes a poor pass when trying to find Warnock. The visitors win a throw-in.
    • 83' David Meyler replaces David Vaughan for the hosts Steve Bruce introduces a fresh pair of legs.
    • 82' Was that a shot? If not, it was a very poor cross. Petrov either looks to find the far corner or is guilty of another wasted pass. Goal kick.
    • 81' Vaughan loses control of the ball which allows Petrov to sneak in. The Sunderland man pulls down the Villa captain on the edge of the penalty area and gives away a free kick.
    • 80' Hutton overlaps down the right and is fed by Petrov. The Scot bursts forward and wins a corner. The set-piece is poor however, and is cleared with ease. Villa are just lacking with the killer ball at the minute.
    • 79' Warnock is again guilty of another poor cross. This time there are players waiting for the ball in the penalty area but the defender mishits the ball. Goal kick.
    • 78' N'Zogbia breaks down the right but is unable to beat Richardson. He turns back but is tackled by the back-tracking Sessegnon. Good work from the winger.
    • 77' Bendtner and Wickham exchange a number of intricate passes in the Villa half. Petrov races back and steals the ball, passing back to Given.
    • 76' Villa have retained the ball well during the last few minutes. They pass it around in their own half before Dunne attempts to find Heskey with a lobbed ball. It's misplaced and rolls out for a Sunderland throw.
    • 75' Warnock attempts a cross from the left. Nobody is in the box and even if there was they wouldn't have got on the end of it because it was shocking.
    • 74' Agbonlahor was booked following that effort as he tripped Richardson attempting to get the ball back.
    • 73' CHANCE!! Bent should score. He exchanges a neat one-two with Agbonlahor and toe-pokes an effort straight at the feet of Westwood.
    • 72' Alex McLeish's right-hand man Kevin MacDonald has been sent to the stands for arguing with the fourth official.
    • 71' Bent and Brown challenge for the ball deep in the Sunderland half. The Villa man thinks he's won the ball fairly as he goes through on goal, but play is brought back for a free kick.
    • 70' Larsson is the man to take the free kick from the edge of the penalty area and swings it towards the near post. Given makes a meal of it, but makes the saves.
    • 69' Herd is penalised for a foul on Bendtner. The Villa youngster is adamant he got a touch on the ball, and after watching the replay he was right.
    • 68' Petrov's got the taste for it now. He's not going to score from their though. The BUlgarian attempts a shot from over forty yards and sends it high over the bar.
    • 67' Sunderland have stepped up their game in the last five minutes and have had 59% possession. As I say that, Agbonlahor breaks but is fouled by Bardsley who is shown the yellow. No complaints.
    • 66' Petrov gets clear of his man and bursts towards the Sunderland box. He squares the ball to the unmarked N'Zogbia who again attempts a trademark shot. It looks to be troubling Westwood but again Brown blocks the effort.
    • 65' The Villa players are struggling to find each other and are being forced back by the Sunderland players who are closing down well.
    • 64' CHANCE!! Bendtner again. Bardsley finds the former Arsenal man with a great ball. The Dane looks to head back across goal from the far post but Hutton gets in between the ball and the goal and makes the block.
    • 63' Larsson collects the ball on the left and takes one touch to allow himself some space before whipping a fierce ball into the penalty area. Bendtner is unmarked on the penalty spot and attempts to flick the ball behind him but heads over.
    • 62' There's a bit of panic in the Villa half as a succession of crosses are whipped in. Collins finally swings a boot at the loose ball and clears it.
    • 61' Colback overlaps down the left but is tracked by Herd who makes a well-timed sliding challenge to deflect the ball out of play.
    • 60' Petrov's corner from the left is hugely disappointing and is cleared by the first defender. It's a good clearance too, as Sunderland go forward through Wickham.
    • 59' CHANCE!! Turner meets Larsson's set piece but heads high from 10 yards. He'll be disappointed with that effort.
    • 58' Bendtner finds a gap in the Villa defence and slides the ball towards Wickham. Collins eventually gets there and clears the ball for a corner.
    • 57' N'Zogbia is claiming for a penalty as he hits the deck under a challenge from Larsson. The referee waves play on as there was absolutely nothing in it.
    • 56' Bent chests the ball in the Sunderland half and lays the ball back to Warnock who gives the ball away needlessly. The hosts go on the counter through Bendtner but Wickham's eventual cross is poor and is claimed by Given.
    • 55' It's Villa who now look comfortable in possession, but it's not in a dangerous area and this won't worry Sunderland.
    • 54' The travelling Villa fans do their best to put Westwood off his first kick but the keeper does well to keep calm and sends down a huge kick.
    • 52' He can't. It's bleeding very heavily and must be replaced. The youngster, Westwood, is his replacement which will give Villa a lift. There was nothing in the challenge from Heskey but Mignolet clearly couldn't carry on.
    • 51' Kieren Westwood is warming up on the touchline as Mignolet attempts to stop his nose bleeding.
    • 50' Petrov's corner is met by Mignolet who races off his line to punch clear. He's clattered by the back of Heskey in the challenge and is now receiving treatment.
    • 49' Villa stroke the ball around well on the half way line. Wickham races back but clumsily challenged Petrov, giving away a free kick.
    • 48' Colback loses possession deep in his own half and allows N'Zogbia to burst into the penalty area. The winger attempts a shot but Brown gets a foot in.
    • 47' Sessegnon faces up to Hutton down the left and takes on the defender before running the ball too far. He is dispossessed and Villa look to counter.
    • 46' The second half is under way. Villa kick off.
    • 45+3' Chris Foy brings the opening half to an end.
    • 45+2' Villa should do better. Agbonlahor cuts in from the left and feeds N'Zogbia on the right of the penalty area. The winger dallies on the ball instead of shooting. The ball is finally crossed in from Herd but Heskey's header is poor and flies wide.
    • 45+1' N'Zogbia and Hutton link up down the right. The Villa right-back swings a ball into the box but the ever-reliable Brown is on hand to head the ball away.
    • 45' We'll have two minutes of added time at the end of this entertaining first half.
    • 45' N'Zogbia hurries Larsson into making a rash clearance. The Sunderland man gives away possession as Villa win a free kick deep in the Sunderland half.
    • 44' Petrov's set piece is met by the head of the diving Collins, who glances it across the face of the goal. It's missed by everyone and rolls out for a goal kick. Heskey was inches away from making a connection and is visibly upset.
    • 43' Agbonlahor is in his preferred position now as he gets down the line and looks to find Bent. Stand-in captain Bardsley sends it out for a corner.
    • 42' He would have been furious had Vaughan been able to get proper contact on that! The midfielder receives the ball on the edge of the penalty area but fires his shot over the bar.
    • 41' Agbonlahor tracks back well and wins the ball in the corner. He then gives away the ball and then a needless foul. McLeish won't be too happy with the positioning of the free kick.
    • 40' Wickham is proving to be a handfull for the Villa defence. He's just scored his first Premier League goal and now wins a throw-in deep in the Villa half.
    • 39' So, two absolute beauties for the fans inside the Stadium of Light. N'Zogbia cuts in from the right again and tries to find the top corner, but sends his shot marginally over.
    • 38' GOAL FOR SUNDERLAND!! Great goal, too. Sessegnon rolls his man before feeding Wickham into the penalty area. He pushes off the challenge of Hutton before firing an unstoppable shot past Given.
    • 38' The right-footed Bardsley, playing on the left, cuts inside and fires a clever ball into the path of Sessegnon who looks to build an attack.
    • 37' Indeed, Sunderland's captain is unable to continue and is replaced by Bardsley. The hosts have eight more minutes, plus stoppage time, to grab a goal in this first half.
    • 36' O'Shea is down and looks to be holding his groin. It doesn’t look like he'll be able to continue. Phil Bardsley is warming up.
    • 35' The home fans are getting a little agitated as their side again waste another chance. They continue to stroke the ball around well but just can't find that cutting pass to release one of their forward men.
    • 34' N'Zogbia gets away from Richardson and cuts inside before attempting to find the far corner with a whipped shot. Brown does superbly to get in a block and deflect the ball out for a corner.
    • 33' O'Shea receives the ball on the left and cuts inside of the rapid Agbonlahor. He then looks to find Wickham with a long ball but gets it wrong and the ball flies through to Given.
    • 32' Bent rolls his man and is sent on his bike as he looks to latch onto Herd's through ball. Again, it's too strong and the Villa No. 9 receives a hugely ironic cheer.
    • 31' Sunderland have had 57% possession to Villa's 43%. I'd have thought it more than that.
    • 30' The hosts are still controlling play as O'Shea dinks a ball forward into the path of Bendtner. Warnock gets around the Dane and smashes the ball into the stands.
    • 29' Bent nicks the ball off Turner and attempts to break forward. Brown spots the danger and comes across to boot the ball clear. The Sunderland fans give an ironic cheer to their former hero.
    • 28' The resulting corner is sent onto the penalty spot and is met by Wickham who heads into the ground. The effort looks to be creeping into the far corner but Warnock heads off the line.
    • 27' Colback cuts in from the right and drops the shoulder to allow some space to shoot. He does so, but Petrov blocks it and sends it out for a corner.
    • 26' Collins is facing Given but takes a heavy touch and nearly allows Bendtner to steal the ball. The defender recovers well and gets the ball back to the keeper.
    • 25' Sunderland still look the much better side in possession of the ball but haven't tested Given in the Villa goal yet. The visitors are struggling to string more than five passes together at one time.
    • 24' Agbonlahor bursts down the right, getting to the byline before dinking the ball back. It flies over the head of Brown but is cleared away by O'Shea.
    • 23' CHANCE!! Great effort from Turner. Bendtner crosses from the right and the ball is met by the diving Turner, who heads about a foot over the bar.
    • 22' Larsson's corner is met by the head of Bendtner at the front post. He doesn't make anywhere near good enough contact and it flies harmlessly away from goal.
    • 20' GOAL FOR VILLA!! WHAT A GOAL!! Villa haven't looked like scoring, but on the break they go 1-0 up. Petrov receives the ball 25 yards from goal and cuts in past Brown before unleashing a wicked effort into the top right-hand corner with his left foot.
    • 20' Sunderland are linking up very well all over the pitch. Sessegnon finds Bendtner who tricks his way past Dunne before crossing. The Villa defender recovers well to get in a challenge and knock the ball out for a corner.
    • 19' Wickham bursts down the left and flicks the ball away from the scarily slow Collins. The youngster gets to the byline and pulls the ball back but Petrov is on hand to clear.
    • 18' Larsson is furious with himself. He has all the time in the worl to cross the ball in from the right under no pressure at all. He aims for Wickham but sends the ball out for a goal kick.
    • 17' That was by far the best chance of the game. Will he get a better chance than that all game? Probably not. Sunderland have had all of the possession but should be a goal down. Gotta love football, eh?
    • 16' CHANCE!! Bent should score. Agbonlahor sends a ball across the face of goal and the former Sunderland man should tap it into the empty net but is put off by the sliding challenge of O'Shea. Wide.
    • 15' Shouts of handball as Agbonlahor controls another throw-in. It's not given and the forward swings a cross into the box. It's cleared with ease.
    • 14' Wickham receives the ball on the left of the Villa box from a neat through ball. He takes one touch towards goal before wildly swinging his left foot at the ball. It's ugly. Very ugly.
    • 13' Agbonlahor chests a long throw-in in the penalty area and then goes down. The travelling Villa fans claim a penalty, but the striker doesn't ask for it. Just a slip.
    • 12' Heskey does well to control a high ball and looks to burst forward but goes down like a sack of potatoes under a challenge from Larsson.
    • 11' Wickham steals the ball off Dunne in the Villa half and then receives a heavy kick from the Irishman. Larsson's free kick is dangerous but has a bit too much pace on it for O'Shea.
    • 10' Sunderland are attacking in numbers and have all but two players in the Villa half. Bent stands on the half-way line and looks completely out of the game at the minute.
    • 9' Agbonlahor is fouled midway through the Sunderland half and limps away gingerly. The resulting free kick is poor and should be chased down by the Villa striker, but he doesn’t look up to it.
    • 8' Sessegnon collects the ball on the left and shifts inside. N'Zogbia tracks back well and steals possession, sending Agbonlahor down the right.
    • 7' Given claims a Larsson cross and launches the ball out to Petrov. The Villa captain lazily gives the ball away and Sunderland look to attack again.
    • 6' Villa really haven't been able to settle in these opening minutes. It's been all Sunderland as they look to build another attack through Colback.
    • 5' Herd, tracking back, trips Larsson and gives away a free kick. The fouled player takes the set-piece but fires it straight into the hands of Given.
    • 4' Bent gets his first touch of the ball and looks to take on Brown. He is roundly booed with every touch and then even more so as he loses control of the ball.
    • 3' Sessegnon retains possession well on the left wing as he tricks his way past a number of challenges. Villa send two defenders to clear the danger. Positive stuff from the hosts.
    • 2' Colback looks to find Wickham with a probing diagonal ball. The striker has the better of the two Villa defenders but can;t quite get on the end of the ball as it rolls out harmlessly for a goal kick.
    • 1' The two teams are just about ready to kick off. Referee Chris Foy (Merseyside) blows the whistle as the hosts get us under way.
    • 14:56 Incidentally, Chris Herd has had his red card rescinded from that game and has made the team for today's clash as Villa look to snatch their first win at the Stadium of Light since 2009 when Emile Heskey and James Milner scored the goals.
    • 14:54 Villa, however, will be looking to hit back after that bitter derby-day disappointment in which they threw away a one goal lead to let West Brom snatch all three points at Villa Park. West Brom beat 10-man Villa
    • 14:49 The Black Cats currently lie in 14th position on 9 points and will look to leapfrog today’s opponents with another win following their impressive performance against Bolton last weekend. Sunderland extend Bolton woes
    • 14:44 He continued: “I'm sure he will take that and it won't faze him and his game and not affect him trying to score a goal past Sunderland. Bent is an England international, he has got a tough mentality. I will certainly be looking for a big performance from him. There is no reason why Darren can't go back and hurt his own team.”
    • 14:39 Bent’s current boss, Alex McLeish, expects the star striker to be on top form however, stating: "We all know football and the way it is. I'm sure a lot of the Sunderland fans will remember Darren's prowess in front of goal with fond memories. But, when you leave a club to go somewhere else, fans see you as the enemy and that's their prerogative...”
    • 14:34 He said: “It's football so I think he'll be expecting it. I think we have to acknowledge what Darren Bent did here, too. He was terrific here for 18 months, there's no disputing that, and, in my opinion, could have been one of the greats if he'd stuck around. He didn't, it's football, and sometimes it happens. All our disappointment was that it ended so quickly. But the great thing about football is we move on.”
    • 14:29 As expected, Darren Bent keeps his place in the Midlands-based outfit's line-up and will make his return to his former club following that big-money move in January. Sunderland boss Steve Bruce has stated that he expects Villa’s No. 9 to be at the centre of much jeering from the Sunderland faithful today, despite the wonderful job he did for the hosts.
    • 14:24 Villa’s Barry Bannan is ineligible for the clash after being internally suspended by the club following his arrest surrounding drink driving allegations. Villa suspend Bannan after arrest
    • 14:19 The hosts are unchanged from their win over Bolton last week. Titus Bramble misses out amid speculation concerning his personal life after being charged with sexual assault. Click here for the full story.
    • 14:14 The teams are in: Sunderland: Mignolet, O'Shea, Richardson, Brown, Turner, Larsson, Sessegnon, Colback, Vaughan, Bendtner, Wickham.Subs: Bardsley, Cattermole, Gardner, Dong-won, Meyler, Elmohamady, Westwood./// Aston Villa: Given, Hutton, Warnock, Dunne, Collins, N'Zogbia, Herd, Petrov, Agbonhalor, Heskey, Bent.
