    • 87' Suarez fires over from close range after being played in by Gerrard – Suarez had Vermaelen right on him though which probably made the difference.
    • 85' Shelvey fires a good low shot on target after working himself some space impressively. Mannone saves it but it looks like the ball is going to drop to Gerrard only for Vermaelen to get in and nick the ball.
    • 84' Giroud now heads wide from the corner - decent chance. You get the impression the goals will flow for the Frenchman once he gets one.
    • 83' Giroud almost wriggles free of Enrique and go clear on goal but the ball instead goes out for a corner.
    • 82' Andre Santos comes on for Podolski. Arsenal fans have been singing 'He drives how he wants...' in honour of Santos all day. That's is in relation to this story: Andre Santos arrested for dangerous driving
    • 81' Better play from Liverpool as Gerrard and Suarez help set up Downing – he looks to curl the ball into the corner of the net but it is deflected over by an Arsenal boot.
    • 80' Great sliding tackle from Sterling sees him steal possession – he has been the one bright spark in the Liverpool team today.
    • 79' Mertesacker flicks on a corner but Reina gathers - he then spills it but the referee said he was fouled.
    • 78' Arsenal passing the ball around well in midfield again – Liverpool can't get the ball.
    • 77' Vermaelen goes flying after a challenge from Gerrard but despite grimacing in pain he is soon back up.
    • 75' Shelvey does well to win the ball in midfield but then he loses his balance a bit and fires a shot well wide.
    • 73' Arsenal's midfield has been outstanding so far today. They will surely try and pass their way to victory from here on in.
    • 72' Oxlade-Chamberlain has picked up a little bit of a knock and Aaron Ramsey is coming on for him.
    • 71' Just no attacking options for Liverpool on the bench either. They could do with a plan B such as Andy Carroll or Clint Dempsey today but their poor transfer window is haunting them here.
    • 69' Great passing again from Arsenal for the goal and Cazorla then played a 1-2 with Podolski which saw Cazorla free inside the left side of the box. He fired a powerful shot but while Reina got down to save it he let it slip under him and in at near post.
    • 68' GOAL FOR ARSENAL!!! It is Santi Cazorla but Pepe Reina should have saved it.
    • 67' Sahin's quiet debut comes to an end with Jonjo Shelvey coming on. The game passed by Sahin to be honest but he will come good when he gets used to the pace of the Premier League
    • 66' Cazorla with a decent left-foot strike from outside the area – aims for the bottom corner but goes just wide.
    • 65' Arsenal struggle to deal with corner as Mannone flaps at it. He does manage to punch away another cross soon after though.
    • 64' Downing glides well into the box from the left but his shot is blocked away for a corner.
    • 63' Arteta tackles Downing well and then wins a free-kick. Arteta playing in a deep holding role but winning the ball well for a little man.
    • 62' Dan Agger with a shot from 40 yards+. Nice clean hit but straight at Mannone
    • 60' Jenkinson cuts in from the right and fires a decent left-foot shot that Reina has to get down to save. Liverpool attacking as much as Arsenal but the Gunners looking sharper in the final third.
    • 59' Suarez furious as he does not get a free after what looked like a foul by Vermaelen. Again though the theatrical dive can't have helped him.
    • 59' Lovely sliding tackle from Areta breaks up a Liverpool attack. A good performance from the Spaniard today.
    • 58' Nice backheel by Downing allows Suarez to shoot from the right of the box. It flashes over the bar but Mannone got a hand to it so it is a corner.
    • 57' Little spell of Liverpool pressure. They have a corner but it is poor from Gerrard who is not having a great game.
    • 56' Suarez feeling aggrieved about a couple of decision but it does seem to have put some fire in his belly.
    • 55' The ball hits Vermaelen's hand as he falls – he could do nothing about that but Liverpool still appeal for a penalty.
    • 54' Liverpool making a change – Stewart Downing on for the unconvincing Fabio Borini.
    • 52' Reina has to make a good save from a Gibbs shot – wonderful move from Arsenal who shifted the ball from right to left to feed the full-back.
    • 51' PENALTY SHOUT FOR LIVERPOOL – Gerrard puts a ball into the box but Suarez is down after being 'handled' by Mertesacker. Suarez had a case there but did go down very easy too. Bit of a boy who cried wolf element to that you feel.
    • 50' I know I've mentioned it a few times but Abou Diaby really is having a superb game – Arsenal must be praying he stays fit this year.
    • 49' Arsenal again looking the more impressive outfit in midfield in the early stages of this second half.
    • 48' The Kop have a role to play in this second half you feel but it is pretty quiet at Anfield at the moment.
    • 47' Skrtel is booked for sliding into the back of Diaby.
    • 46' Back underway - no changes from either side.
    • HT And there is the half-time whistle – Arsenal have finally got on the scoresheet this season and they are in front. A disjointed performance from Liverpool so far – they need to improve, especially in the middle of the park.
    • 45+1 Mertesacker with another good challenge on the edge of the area to pinch the ball from Gerrard.
    • 45' Two extra minutes.
    • 44' Finally seen the replay of the penalty shout and it was actually a great tackle by Per Mertesacker on Sterling – it needed to be perfect too as he would have got a second yellow if he got that wrong. Good shout by Howard Webb.
    • 43' Arsenal winning the midfield battle today. Diaby and Arteta far more prominent than Sahin and Allen.
    • 42' Still waiting to see a replay of the Liverpool penalty shout.
    • 41' TERRIBLE MISS FROM GIROUD – Diaby with a spectacular run forward and a lovely pass into the French striker but he made a hash of the effort as he fired wide. Podolski shouts at Giroud for the miss. Giroud clearly low on confidence – it was a similar miss to the one against Sunderland.
    • 40' HUGE PENALTY SHOUT FOR LIVERPOOL – need to see a replay.
    • 39' OFF THE POST FROM STERLING – okay it was the outside of the post but still. He spun in the box well to give himself the opportunity to shoot…all came after Borini did well to keep the ball in play and loop up a volleyed cross that Arsenal could not clear.
    • 38' Back-to-back corners from Liverpool but Arsenal cope with both.
    • 37' Risky ball from Arteta to Vermaelen that Borini almost nicks….got away with it though.
    • 36' Another powerful run from the impressive Diaby but less impressive was his cross into the box which sailed over everybody.
    • 35' Mertesacker miss-hits a clearance but it does the job.
    • 33' Podolski looking confident now as he burst forward on the counter attack. He tries a shot but it is deflected and Reina can gather.
    • 32' Delay at the moment as Jenkinson needs some treatment.
    • 31' It was a superb counter attack from Arsenal and came after Steven Gerrard gave the ball away. Santi Cazorla dribbled forward with the ball and Giroud made a good dummy run allowing Cazorla to slip in the German who produced a cool low finish past Reina.
    • 30' GOAL FOR ARSENAL!!!! They have their first goal of the season. And it is a first Arsenal goal for Podolski.
    • 29' Good tackle by Jenkinson on Sterling after Mertesacker had given the ball away again.
    • 28' Gibbs leads a counter-attack but plays a ball behind Podolski.
    • 27' Gerrard hits it straight at the wall which raced out very quickly after a touch from Suarez.
    • 26' Mertesacker gives the ball away poorly and Sterling runs forward. Areta takes one for the team and fouls him. He is booked and Liverpool have another chance with a free-kick from 30 yards out – central position.
    • 25' Giroud goes up to challenge Reina but that is foul. Gibbs should have done better with the cross from the left.
    • 24' Giroud getting a bit frustrated - the ball not really sticking to him thus far.
    • 23' Suarez found inside the box but Mertesacker defends him very well.
    • 22' Some lovely work from Diaby in midfield keeps Arsenal in possession – he's looked good so far.
    • 21' Oxlade-Chamberlain winded after banging into Suarez.
    • 20' Fairly even opening 20 minutes – still waiting for our first real chance of the match.
    • 19' Vermaelen bursts forward with impressive intent but the less said about his shot the better.
    • 18' Arsenal win a free down the left – chance for Cazorla to whip in a cross but it is well defended by Liverpool.
    • 16' Gerrard tries one of his 'Hollywood' cross field balls to Johnson but he just overhit it.
    • 16' Should Arsenal fail to score today, it will be the first time in 59 years the club have started the season without a goal in the opening three league matches, after failing to score in the first three matches of the 1953-54 season. (Infostrada)
    • 15' Oxlade-Chamberlain overcooks a cross badly down the right with Arsenal men in the Liverpool box.
    • 14' Jenkinson gives the ball away in a dangerous area but Borini can't take advantage.
    • 13' Gerrard whips in a beautiful corner but Agger just can't quite get on the end of it. Really flashed across the goal though – it was begging for a touch.
    • 12' Jenkinson makes a hash of clearance and it goes out for a corner. Our cycling commentator and big Arsenal fan Felix Lowe tells me it is the first corner Arsenal have conceded this season.
    • 11' Liverpool struggle to clear their lines and the ball falls to Cazorla just outside the box. He can't really get the ball from under his feet though and his eventual shot lacks power and trickles straight to Reina.
    • 10' Borini tries another shot from a tough angle but it goes wide. Sterling did well to cut in from the left and set up the attack.
    • 9' Borini puts in Johnson in behind the Arsenal defence but the Liverpool right-back was just offside.
    • 8' Liverpool not afraid to play it around at the back. Very much Brendan Rodgers' style but can be risky too.
    • 7' Suarez does take the free kick but it is far too high and sails over the bar.
    • 6' Suarez glides past Mertesacker and the German pulls him back. He is booked. This is the sort of range where Suarez scored against City.
    • 5' Arsenal's defenders back off Borini as the play opens up for him. He has the option to pass to Gerrard but tries a shot instead and drags it wide. Poor effort.
    • 4' Arsenal string about 20 passes together but without any end product.
    • 3' Applause from the home fans as Joe Allen does some nice tidying up back in his own box.
    • 2' Mertesacker tries a long ball up to Giroud. It doesn't come off but a tactic to watch.
    • 1' Liverpool gets us underway – they will attack the Kop in the second-half.
    • 13:28 Santi Cazorla with a huge smile on his face during the handshakes. Expect an enthusiastic performance.
    • 13:25 The teams are just coming out now - Arsenal wearing their blue and black hooped away shirt.
    • 13:20 There were some rumours this morning that Liverpool could move to resign Michael Owen after failing to add to their squad on transfer deadline day but the latest news is that Sunderland are interested in the former England striker. Sunderland express Owen interest
    • 13:15 Howard Webb is the referee today. His second Premier League match of the season. He did Man City's win over Southampton on the opening day dishing out three yellow cards in that game.
    • 13:10 Arsene Wenger: "I believe Liverpool are a good team. Having watched all the games I could watch until now in the Premier League, it’s very difficult to single one team out above everyone else. Liverpool certainly have a chance to be fighting for the top, but we’re competing with Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United now as well.”
    • 13:05 Brendan Rodgers: "Arsenal have been consistently in that top four for the last 14 or 15 years.I think the competition now, especially at the top end of the Premier League, is immense. The money invested into the clubs is incredible. That makes it tougher but certainly Arsenal are a team that have been up there for a number of years and I am sure it will be the same this year.”
    • 13:00 Just the one change for Arsenal from the side that drew 0-0 at Stoke last weekend as Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is preferred to Gervinho. Laurent Koscielny is fit again but starts on the bench. Wojciech Szczesny is close to a return but not quite ready so Vito Mannone gets another chance between the sticks.
    • 12:55 Liverpool make three changes to the side that drew 2-2 with Manchester City last weekend. Sahin comes in for the injured Lucas, Dan Agger is back from suspension and Jose Enrique returns to the starting line-up. Martin Kelly and Sebastien Coates drop to the bench.
    • 12:50 TEAMS: Liverpool: Reina; Johnson, Skrtel, Agger, Enrique; Allen, Sahin, Gerrard; Sterling, Borini, Suarez. Subs: Jones, Carragher, Shelvey, Downing, Henderson, Kelly, Coates /// Arsenal: Mannone; Jenkinson, Mertesacker, Vermaelen, Gibbs; Cazorla, Arteta, Diaby; Oxlade-Chamberlain, Giroud, Podolski. Subs: Koscielny, Martinez, Santos, Ramsey, Coquelin, Gervinho, Walcott.
    • 12:45 Welcome to our live coverage of Liverpool v Arsenal at Anfield as Nuri Sahin makes his debut for Liverpool.

  2. Rodgers hasnt a clue! Has the Pool too slow in the build up,pass backs, crossfield, the other team has everyone back before they get over the halfway line,!! Then he loans plan B out(Carroll), without getting a replacement, wrong man for the job methinks!

  3. i am a Arsenal fan totally have been for 50 years, iwatch as many teas play as i can and appreciate good football. Why can supporters only remember when they are winning,we as Arsenal supporters should remember the stick we've had through the years and thank god we have a manager that loves the game and loves our team.He also tries to make it a business so the club can make a profit and pay for stadium. Liverpool on the other hand have had managers in the last 15 years that are not that assertive, they have spent lots of money on the wrong players.Idon't believe Kenny Dalglish is a good manager,he spends plenty and gets the players to play better but not always as a team and always leaves the clubs in a bad way.Give the new manager a good run ,he is a good un and maybe get them back to there old dominance when they were THE CLUB,the very best and i hate saying that. 6. It's so easy for so many of you who aren't LFC supporters to come on here and post your stupid comments about LFC being the worst team that you've ever seen or us being the laughing stock of the EPL. much of that is due to the lack of knowledge or intelligence some of you have due to the tribal prejudices in bedded in you or you have for other clubs. On what basis do you have the right to come out with stupid remarks like that? Please try and base your comments or blatant hateful remarks on the facts not on your willingness to stick in the knife into us. You can't base your statements on knowing nothing about Liverpool and only on what you've read in the press or heard through gossip. As a fan and a life long supporter of this club I guess I'm no different in many ways but at least I have faith in this club and always believe that nothing is as it first seems or appears. This club of ours isn't a joke or the worst club in the league. Every club will always go through it's changes and difficult times. None of any of the abuse that you all are spouting off is based on any truth of what LFC is all about. Things like these happen and will continue to happen to every football club and business. Can any of you name me one club in this league who hasn't been dragged through the dirt by the press and had things said about the way the club has been run? Truth is if it isn't Liverpool FC today then it will be someone else or other club the next day. I seem to remember Arsenal suffering fools gladly last year when they were going through a bad spell at the start of the season and even up until a few weeks ago when they lost Van P to man U.
